Hi all,
I have a question and I know people will flame but I really don't have enough time to research like I always do before I make my first post on a message board.
In this case though, I just bought a dopod 838 Pro/ Herm 100 and I will be starting a new job and will be using this phone. I have it flashed for cingular with the wm5 rom from this site and it works great!
My question is, I would like to run wm6 on this phone. Like I said I just don't really have much time to search the site and find out more about this. All I need to know is if upgrading to wm6 on this phone can be done yet using it with cingular and if it can, is it worth it?
I did find the page that has all the flashing roms on it for wm6 but I haven't had the time to figure out what each one is.
I hate to be the one to drop the noob question but because of starting my new job I need to flash it soon if I'm going to do it at all and that doesn't leave me with much time to search the boards and really read up on this.
Thanks for your help!
Ben

as you are refusing to take the time to read the f*cking wiki, you should NOT flash your device. you will brick it, then come here crying for help (or come crying for help on some other easily answered question).
until you have the time to RTFW and do the research, just keep the stock rom.

I am reading around as much as I can. I just though I'd ask the quick question for as much help as I can get. thanks for the help...

Well, it seems you have answered your own question. You don't have time to flash your phone. Reading, research and then flashing will result in success, anything else will result in a brick. From your post it appears you know how to navigate this site so I won't provide the basic links. When you have time, do your research and then flash you phone, it will be worth it.

WM6 is absolutely worth it. The latest builds from each chef are in the Wiki. I use a lvsw derivative on a TyTn and an 8525 and I couldn't even imagine going back to WM5...
That being said, be sure to flash the radio shown in my sig as it seems to work the best on Cingular networks.
Welcome to XDA-Developers btw :)

haha, I guess what I'm trying to ask is if wm6 is buggy or even worth it on the phone I have. If it's worth it then I will dig in and try to know enough by the weekend when I'll have time to sit down and try it.

Hmmmm.
Yes you can do the Cingular thing, a couple of roms have Cingular versions, such as Custels v2.5.
I would install Hard-SPL-V7 before you install anything else since it will protect your phone from a lot of possible problems.
It may also be worth upgrading to Radio rom version 1.38 or 1.40, 1.41. seems to be variable in its effectiveness for different folks.
Is it worth it? Yes, speed and stability are much greater, but only if you are prepared to read up and fix issues as they arrive. These roms dont come with a guarantee, and whilst the main ones I have tried (Custel, LVSW and Black) have been stable for me they have had quirks (bluetooth, wifi, etc) for other people that require you to go and seek answers if you encounter them.
If your Dopod is unstable and crashes regularly on its current rom then its probably worth your while, if you need it for your job and its already stable then I would think carefully about it.
By the way, great video series.

cool, that's what I needed to know. I will now dig into the boards and learn all there is to know before flashing my phone.
thanks!

Oh, it is absolutely a worthwhile upgrade. Much better than WM5, and the radio that Slueth mentioned is flawless.

Unless you work 24 hours a day every day and NEVER have any free time, then you DO have time to read-up on this stuff and that bullshit excuse you provided is worthless. You don't have to do this before you start your job. What the hell is that? You can flash it at anytime when you have it, and once you'
ve read enough about what you're doing you'll know it takes less than a hour to get it all flashed and apps re-installed. Christ. Atleast come here with a better excuse than you don't have time. I'm sorry. i don't have time to help you any further.
Can someone close or delete this crap. *sigh*
Every goddamn day the same questions from lazy individuals that want everything handed to them.

He asked a valid question. The simple answer "yes, it's worthwhile" would've sufficed. Give it a break or I start handing out bans. I'm really getting sick of this.

How is that a valid question hiden behind the fact that he used BS about not having time to read? You're getting sick of this; how about all of us that have to see the same threads day in and day out from people too lazy to read for a little? There was a thread with this same question a day ago!
How about a "yes", then lock the thread. Thread answered. He has time to post a thread, but none to read the forum?

He's researching now no doubt. It took me 30 secs to post the answer. Show me another thread with this same question plz....

seriously the aggression is unnecessary. lets all try to keep it to the witty one-liners and simple sarcasm ;)
My answer: yes it is worth it. I use my 8525 for work all the time with wm6. However, the official rom will be out soon, and if you dont want to deal with a potential brick you might wanna hold off for that.

Read the forum like I did! :p ;) lol
Really, it's not like anyones mad, it's just annoying. No one should rush into flashing, and reading this forum for a few weeks before I did ANYTHING helped keep me from posting threads like this. I saw what others said about the different ROMs. I read the guide and the wiki, then after a long thought over whether or not to attempt my first flash, I did so w/o any problems. i attribute that to taking my time to read. Sometimes the forum needs a little tough-love to get people set on the right path. :)
It just bothered me that he stated he didn't have time to read the forum because of work. I'm still perplexed over that one. Do they keep the phones at work? If it's not his then he shouldn't flash it anyway. If it is his, then how would "work" interfere with him taking his own personal time to flash his device? Doesn't make sense.

And his question was answered that it is a worthwhile upgrade and that he needed to do his reading first. He thanked the responders for the replies and went to go do the research. Everyone was happy. Why explode after the fact?

Thread closed then. I've got some post research to do on ronfin44.... Hopefully you don't make a living on this forum doing newbie bashing.
edit: 24 hour ban imposed. A quick search will reveal the reason.
