View Full Version : GPS/EXIF Camera Option WM6 - partly solved

since I've updated to O2-GER WM6, and enabled the GPS Option in the registry, it's not working any more as it does in WM5. I can take photos in that mode, but when I switch to it, the GPS is not activated as in WM5, and no exif data are available.

Anyone an idea?

Edit: I've posted a workarround in #7

Ahh it would be nice if this worked out because the lat:long on the old version of gps-photo taking in WM5 was broken.

Peter? Are you saying that it doesn't ind a signal so trips out? Have you changed any defualt settings for the GPS config? eg Com 4?

Also want to see the registry hack for this one.

Same settings as in WM5, and same registry entrys. I had hoped, that the lat/long buck would be solved, but the problem grows.

In WM5, you could see, that GPS would be enabled, if you change to that camera mode. - Flasching GPS-LED and runnig dots in the lower right corner of the screen during GPS.sync. That doesn't occur since WM6

The attached file is the WM5 registry entry !

Same problem here GPS photo mode do not work any more on wm6

the option is there but GPS does not work

kinski

This might be a solution for that problem

But it didn't work with my WM6 Orbit in the demo version.
I apologize that the Link shows only a german web site

Meanwhile I've found a workarround with the internal funktion.
The lat/long bug semms to be solved!
First I've enabled the P9 camera funktion.
When I start the camera the first time, a screen appears, where I am asked, where to store the images. It doesn't matter what I choose, but the 'don't show this message again' should not be marked.
When I now choose the GPS Exif mode, it works.
When I start the camera a second time, it wont work, if the screen where to store the images doesn't appear. So I have to choose the internal memory in the upper task bar. Closing the canmera and starting again, the desired sceen appears again, and the GPS funktion is working.
I've tested it with the O2Ger WM6

Take the registry file, I've posted in #4, and add it to the xda registry, and in the camera menue is the GPS mod enabled. But ther is another bug in WM5, so You got a position error in east-west direction up to 1/2 mile

Hi guys,

I am able to take GPS photos with my HTC P3300. Could anyone please tell me what to do with them? Sorry for the STUPID question but can they be used as POI's for Tomtom? If YES, how?

Thanks for your help!

You can regard the place where You took those GPS photos in google earth.
These function is implemented in several pc viewers, e.g. irfan view.

You need a registry editor like Resco Registry

Go to HKLM/ Software/Htc/Camera/P9

and set enable to '1'

thats all

still doesn't work, i see the exifcamera icon in the setting of the cam and yes enabled the p9..but gps doesn't start. no blinking orange left led.

See my post #7. There I have described the workarround

kasperke
20-06-2007, 05:51 PM
i did it, but it didn't worked...so i tried it again.
i went with resco to the key and yes it was already enabled. so i put again 1 in de key and saved it over and damn NOW IT WORKS!

just one time till you turn the cam off (you can take as many pictures if you like), so as i understand it, everytime you want to do it you have to save the key again to use it.

Thanks a million dude, lets wait now for someone to solve it permenantly.:)

Well you also need to go in the camera settings and change the mode to "GPS Photo". Why on earth was GPS photo disabled on the O2 Orbit!!! They missed a massive opportunity there I think.

kinski

so as i understand it, everytime you want to do it you have to save the key again to use it.

No. You have to choose the internal memory, when you switch off the camera. Next time you start the camera, it will ask you where to store the images, internal or external memory. No matter what you choose, whenever this appears, gps/exif will work.

11-10-2007, 06:30 PM
If P9 is enabled, it works only, if you choose the internal storage as I've described above.
Have You tried to switch to the exif mode in the upper left corner of the camera screen?

lazzaleo
12-10-2007, 09:09 AM
-p9 is 1
-in camera settings(upper left corner) gps is setted
-either card or internal memory don't start gps (blinking led)

after enabling p9, make a soft reset.
You have to choose the internal storage, before You activate the camera.
If not, activate the camera, switch to internal staorage, deactivate camera, and activate it again.

ok... this is what i did:

1) edited registry. opened camera, had new icon but nothing happened. thus: i did a soft reset.

2) opened camera. default was sd card, i switched to the gps photo mode, i could take photos, they got stored into "my poi" folder on sd card, but no gps information whatsoever.

3) i set to ROM, closed cam, opened again. went to gps photo, got a grey screen like the screenshot you took, but no "..." just the "close" option.

3a-z) now i tried several things, like having tomtom in the background, like opening cam with ROM mode enabled , then switching to SD CARD or stay in ROM before going to gps photo but the result allways the same: "IF" i got that grey screen, no "points" and when i click "close" i get moved back into normal photo mode

all in all: a P3300 with WM6 (original HTC rom) and i can't take GPS photos. it's a pity i never tried before and would love to be able to do this.

oh, PS: i only set registry from 0 to 1, didn't import the whole .reg file. i don't like to mess up too much if not really needed... i wonder if i should try, but if it doesn't work i don't know if i'll be able to set it back as it was, besides: looking at that file i don't really see any reason why it should NOT work just with changing the enable from 0 to 1

NikMel

just compare the reg file to your registry if there no diff. than you don't need to import it.

GPS information is stored as metadata within the jpg file. several programs can reveal it and some can even jump directly to google map.
google for exif viewer and you will find plenty.

Hi Guys. I had same problem with my camera. I didn't seem to recognize the GPS. Enable was set to 1 already. Tried to change it to 0 and back nuttin happened. Installed the RESCO package to use another reg editor, and WUPTI! GPS worked. But my storage card disappeared! Deleted RESCO and with all the programs, found storagecard again, but now the GPS was gone again in the cam........(god damn!). Installed RESCO Reg editor, storagecard still there, but no GPS on the camera. Decided to install the whole package again. And now sumhow I get the GPS signal through, and it seem to work perfect, and I still have the storagecard. And I have NO fu***** idea why.... :-) Cheers

it is a single exe file taskmgr.exe, you don't need to install it , it is sufficient to copy it onto device and launch it.
COM3 is associated to Serial_GPS and COM4 to GPS.
In TomTom you don't need to select a com because GPS is also recognized as a peripheral.
If you need Task Manager you can find it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280104

If I exit the camera and the storage is set to my SD-card, GPS Photo doesn't work the next time I start up the camera.
If I set the storage to the Main Memory and then exit, GPS Photo does work the next time. Even if I switch back to SD-card before activing GPS Photo.

You are right, but i have problems to rebuild my rom due to too missing files.
I built a cab that works great for me, naturally if you do an hard reset you have to reinstall the drivers, at least you inserted them in EXT ROM.

The install procedure is :
install SdkCerts.cab
install GPS_Camera_Fix.cab into device (not storage card)
Soft reset.

P.S. I noticed that with the previous procedure after a soft reset you have to manually restart the COM3 and GPD0 devices, with this one is not necessary.

when the first time u use, it will ask that 'new memory card detected' and do u want to use main memory or memory card. there is a 'dont ask again' check mark

Again, what do your cabs do?
The sdkcerts.cab install some certificates to permit the fix installation
The GPS_Camera_Fix.cab "replace" some dlls reguarding the Artemis GPS antenna (It does not replace the original dlls , simply override them. The original file system can be restored by hard reset, or , but I'm not sure, uninstalling the GPS_Camera_Fix.cab)
I tested this fix only on Artemis, I don't know if it works on other devices.
P.S. The Gps camera has to be enabled by fixing the registry ,as explaned in post #4, and executing the workaround in post #7
