It is smaller and a little more refined than the TyTN's and does an excellent job at navigating.
Check it out..........

besides being smaller, it's more "rounded" in comparison to the tytn, so it feels much smaller in the hand/pocket.
i think the coolest thing in the open/close system, that has changed and is not the same comparing to the tytn/wizard. it feels rock solid.

i only played with it for a few minutes. i think i "bend" thingie is more solid than i thought it would be. besides that, i liked the positioning of the sim card slot. easier to access than the tytn. no need to get the battery out.

There was a guy selling one not too far from me. I could have bought it but declined as I the only really desire pushing me was the one to have something as soon as it's out, (which isn't always the best ;)). He sold it Ebay for Ģ390 which isn't too bad considering it's not out yet. I think the August date should be fairly accurate.

the sim is located on the sliding part. when you slide out to reveal the keyboard, it's behind the screen
the card slot is located on the sliding part as well, at the bottom of the device.

Anyone has any idea if T-Mobile is going to release it own branded HTC Kaiser (as MDA Vario III - for example)? My contract is going to finish around December/January, so I'd be happy to get an upgrade as xmas/new year gift. ;)

It is a nice device due to the screen size, but that seems to be the only thing it has that I would like better than the Kaiser. But you are right, I would love a device with a larger screen that still fits in the pocket. I think the Advantage is nice, but it is too big. A Kaiser with a nice screen size would be really sweet.

The touchscreen brings down the readability in sunlight. But this seems to be improving with newer devices. My previous phone, the P990i was unusable in direct sunlight while the JASJAM is quite OK. Usable but not as good as Nokia's Symbian phones.
Read this article (http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/features/item/The_difference_the_lack_of_a_touch_screen_makes.ph p) for more on this.

I just hope that Leaf Wireless in South Africa have got their orders in and get some devices ASAP for submission to our Networks.
I am sure this device will blow the socks off the opposition, although they are not far behind and the playing fields will soon be levelled.
I agree that a larger LCD would have been better with 640 X 480 res.
When I mentioned the fact that I had heard that bigger memory was comming, I was shot down in flames. That was around December 2007.

I have been informed by a source that the Kaiser will be released in South Africa sometime in August.
Unfortunately the price is a bit of a shocker as the cost of the GPS software has to be included in the package. That relates to approx. R10,000 which at current exchange rates is about $1,400!
I guess I will have to weigh up this purchase very carefully.

From Phonescoop:

Today, 2:53 PM source: Wall Street Journal
The US International Trade Commission (ITC) today issued a ban on the import and sale of all new 3G phones using Qualcomm's chips. The ban comes as a result of a patent dispute with Broadcom, which Qualcomm recently lost. This ban will halt the release of all new CDMA models as well as any WCDMA or HSDPA models that use Qualcomm chips. Carriers will be able to continue selling previously launched models, including replenishing stock of them. Until this dispute is settled Sprint, Verizon and other CDMA carriers will not be able to launch any new phones and Cingular will only be able to launch new 3G phones that don't use Qualcomm's chips, such as those from Nokia.
wonder if this is going to impact the Kaiser!

It may be true, but in the USA, we now have a bit of a problem. Today, the USITC has banned all NEW Qualcomm chips from being shipped into the US. Take a look:
TECHNOLOGY ALERT from The Wall Street Journal.
June 7, 2007 - In a ruling that will impact major wireless carriers, the U.S. International Trade Commission barred imports of new models of cellphones containing chips made by Qualcomm, after that company was found to have infringed on patents held by rival Broadcom. The move represents something of a compromise, as Broadcom had asked for a ban on imports of all devices containing the chips, not just future models.

why would you need macro mode when it's AutoFocus ?!
Macro and autofocus are two entirely different things, Macro allows the lens to go close to the subject, and therefore take shots such as hairs on a bee etc, autofocus simply means the camera will focus the lens on the subject itself, i.e you dont have to manually adjust the lens to get the image sharp.

Well I kinda knew that, but usually cameraphones that have autofocus, also have a macro mode. it may be a "fake" macro mode in some, as they can't get quality pictures of subjects closer than say 50cm, but still, they all have it!

This is not good:
ITC Denies Qualcomm Request To Stay Order in
Broadcom Case
By MIKE BARRIS
Broadcom Corp. said the International Trade Commission denied rival Qualcomm Inc.'s request to stay the agency's ban on the import of new models of advanced cellphones containing chips from Qualcomm.
The announcement comes two weeks after the ITC imposed a partial ban on the imports of third-generation, or 3G, cellular phones using Qualcomm's microchips in a ruling over a patent dispute between the company and Broadcom.
The decision meant that all the major cellular phone handset makers using Qualcomm's microchips in their 3G phones could no longer be able to import new models of their phones into the U.S. after June 7. New phones that are of the same model as those manufactured before June 7 will still be allowed into the country.
The ban affects 3G phones sold by Verizon Wireless, a joint venture between Verizon Communications Inc. and Vodafone PLC; AT&T Inc., Sprint Nextel Corp. and T-Mobile USA, a unit of Deutsche Telekom AG.
Before its June 7 ruling, the ITC, which is an independent arm of the U.S. federal government, had previously determined that San Diego-based Qualcomm was in violation of a patent held by Broadcom, which is headquartered in Irvine, Calif. The patent in question is for a device that lengthens the life of cell-phone batteries.
Qualcomm, which is facing a series of legal battles, said after the ITC's June 7 ruling it believed the commission "has overstepped its statutory boundaries." The company added it didn't expect the ban to have an impact on earnings in the short term.

I doubt it could never cost that much. I would expect HTC's Vista based portable to come in around that price, not a phone.

I am very confused, there is also a 8725, I can gaurentee it, but I am not sure what model. I believe it is the one with the fingerprint scanner and no keyboard but it could be the new 3g vox. the numbering scheem doesnt make sense since all 8 series phones have keyboards and traditionally touch screens.
and before others say it, the 8900 is a cameraless 8925.
I doubt cingular marketing would have the touch and the iphone, but I cant confirm much anymore since I left ATT.

Well i think that the Toshiba G900 and the Kaiser will be 2 nice devices...
The G900 has a 3" screen and the Kaiser 2.8"
The G900 had 520 Mhz and a specific Chip for the Video the Kaiser had 400 Mhz and i donīt know what a video chip it had...
Most important thing: The Kaiser had a GPS inside and the G900 MAYBE a AGPS
I read in somewhere that the G900 could have a AGPS not active at the selling monet but aviable in a second time by a Software Update...Like on Trinity

The Toshiba 900 unfortunately is without the 850 bandwidth leaving it with limited US functionality (i.e.: a max of 350ish kbps data speed etc..).

actually these are ok under the ban because they were "already built" or whatever. So they're still planned to be released in august!

I hope you are right, but the WSJ indicates that anything new with that a Qualcomm chip in it cannot be brought into the country. Now, since the Kaiser is already in the hands of many people, that may qualify for sale, but since I am not a lawyer, I have no idea.

as the display is only 320 x 240, Kaiser does not attract me to give up my x01ht
1) more memory <- I have enough memory @ my X01ht
2) GPS <- well, have a GPS device would be fun, but I will not really "use" it
I want a better screen so I will wait for the G900
