I cannot seem to get this to work when comming out of standby mode.

I installed both omapclock and omapclockplus and used the automated install cab file from this site. When I register it at 240 everything is fine but when the phone goes on standby mode then comes out the clock resets back to its default which shows at 186 for some reason?

Anyone have a solution for this? Im desperate to speed this device up

i have read the threads that you referenced and i just dont understand how and where to make these shortcuts. can anyone please help me out? i have the overclock program installed (works until standby state), the load program, and the tornado power controls are on my phone but not set up yet. any help would be appreciated as the previous threads are going right over my head.

again, does ANYONE actually managed to keep their VOX overcklocked after wakup? For me neighter OMAPplus or adding new notification (using SKTools) did nothing for me. I didn't try Tornado power control yet with or without LOAD command.

OMAP plus worked just fine with Herald with WM6 on it, BlackJack and Excalibur. I am not sure what is different in VOX that prevents to work it properly with OMAP plus

I tried OmapClock Plus, it didn't work then I tried Tornado Power Control and it's working find :
I specified omapclock -clock 240 in the Power_On.lnk, 180 in the Power_BacklightOff.mnk and 140 in the Power_UserIdle.lnk.
So when my vox is wake up, it's running at 240Mhz (I checked a couple of time with OmapClock), when the backlight is off -> 180Mhz and when it goes to sleep -> 140Mhz ( well I assume since I didn't find a way to check the clock speed when the vox is in sleep state :D)

It worked!

What do you need:

Tornado power control

http://merwin.bespin.org/tornado/TornadoPowerControl14.cab

Total Commander
http://ghisler.fileburst.com/ce/tcmdphone.cab

Install both to default locations and the copy:

3 shortcuts to Tornado folder

1 shortcut to Windows\Startup

As a result you will have :

Tornado running at startup in hidden mode :)

VOX will run at 252 at full power mode

180 and display dim and 140 in sleep mode :)

If 252 is too high for you, change it to desired speed.

CHECK WITH OMAP WHICH FREQUENCY IS SAFE FOR YOU!!!

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE! CHECK POWER_ON.LNK FIRST AND EDIT AS DESIRED!!!

nice video and congrats on getting it to work. the unit that i had would crash or freeze when i was sending a email using my exchange account if if closed the keyboard right after pushing the send button. this is what was driving me crazy and ultimately made me sell mine. the entire messaging app ran really slow compared to every other wm device that i have owned. it is always slow the first time the app opens (which is fine) but sending messages and returning to the home screen from the messaging app was horrible.

How can you tell it works or what speed it's running at?

My "Device Information" only shows 201Mhz but I think it's only hard coded text.
Nowhere else in Settings does it tell me the CPU speed on the E650.

Tornado Power Control (TPC) only displays the maximum (228) if I set it to that from the Menu options within the program.
Trying "dim" from the menu options, doesn't change the CPU speed.
It just says "Started process Power_on.Ink" at all times.
"Toggle" between Low Light and Full Power keeps the CPU Speed at 228mhz within TPC.

After reading the TPC readme (228 is the speed in the registry) and says to run OMAP to get actual speed.

So I did.

OMAP displays 264 only when I load the program manually, even in low light mode.
(BTW 264Mhz seems to work fine on my device, anything higher, buttons stop working, apps hang etc)

I've got the following shortcuts, and values

\Program Files\TornadoPowerControl\Power_UserIdle.lnk
50#"\Program Files\TornadoPowerControl\OmapClock.exe" -clock 140

\Program Files\TornadoPowerControl\Power_on.lnk
50#"\Program Files\TornadoPowerControl\OmapClock.exe" -clock 240

\Program Files\TornadoPowerControl\Power_BacklightOff.lnk
50#"\Program Files\TornadoPowerControl\OmapClock.exe" -clock 180

Windows/Startup/TornadoPowerControl.exe.lnk
60#"\Program Files\TornadoPowerControl\TornadoPowerControl.exe" hide

From the above, I've no idea why OMAP is showing 264Mhz,

How do I check?

Is there any other way of checking the current CPU speed?

EDIT:

Also tried load.exe

I installed load.exe (v1.01) into \Windows (Download from here:- http://www.modaco.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=239074&view=findpost&p=730277 )

Changed the content of Windows\Startup\TornadoPowerControl.exe.lnk to:

43#"\Windows\load.exe" -hide "\Program Files\TornadoPowerControl\TornadoPowerControl.exe" bright hide

OMAP still shows 264Mhz

TPC is actually working, in that it loads the required shortcuts, but the CPU display is still displayed at 228Mhz

How can I check the current CPU speed with backlight on and off?

I have mine running as follows:-

idle = 140
dim (low_light) = 180
bright (backlight on) = 252

Battery life sucks if the phone is heavily used.

Bluetooth drains battery, so I'm just wondering how the battery will last with overclocking, bluetooth and TomTom (which uses backlight on).

Anyone tried TomTom when overclocking?

The overclocking went great! Though its hard to check if its really downclocked when in sleep, but we'll trust the program =)

The battery life is probably redused by 24hours (at least!) on my phone, so when heavily used, the battery life time sucks. Had one lockup so far, when it was really hot outside, the phone crashed. It resulted in an endless loop (on and off), but once it got coolered down again, it worked ...

Anyone of you have experienced unstability?

PS: Mine's running on 252mhz while backlight on:cool:

First I want to say thanks again to ID64 whos instructions were completely awesome! But I've got one more question for you or anyone that can answer.

I've removed the startup shortcut for tornado power control since the battery life was getting pretty bad (overclocking + GoodLink = approx half a day battery). So instead I assign a speed dial button to Tornado for those time when I need a little speed boost (like when running opera or watching a large video). My question is, when I exit Tornado Power Control, does my clock speed go back down to the standard 201, or should I create a new shortcut for "OmapClock.exe -clock 201" to get it back to normal?

Thanks again for all the excellent tips.

EDIT: Also does anyone know why Omap Clock shows the standard clockspeed as 186 when (in theory) its supposed to be 201?

GnarusLeo
11th August 2007, 10:13 AM
Some users experienced that the clock "resets" itself back to normal when it gets waken up, though I won't confirm it. You should check out TCMP -> Options -> Settings for clock speed.

About the Omapclock, this has (on my phone anyways) allways been lying about my clock speed, so woudn't trust it.

And really? Half A day?

interesting. after a reboot tcpmp says my clock sped is 180. I wound up creating another shortcut to clock at 186. this makes tcpmp go back to 180. these results make me think htc lied about the clockspeed. id make a joke about a class action lawsuit, but i love my vox too much.

yeah half a day, but thats with goodlink and moderate use (its still new for me so im still using the hell out of it)

11th August 2007, 06:19 PM
ok, after a little experimenting, i figured out that if you quit tornado power control, the phone will reset its clock automatically after it changes state (i.e. screen dims or turns off). this is reported both by omapclock and tcpmp (whic both give me 2 different #s, neither of which are 201). So if you want to turn off overclocking, just turn off TPC and lock you phone.

Again, big thanks to everyone whos been so helpful on the boards.

Wht app are you using to tell the clock speed when the backlight is dimmed? I know, for me, TPC will always list my clock at 180 even when its running, and I havent seen anything that will show the correct clock speed when the backlight is dimmed. What I do see in TPC though, is when the backlight goes dim, The text at the bottom of the screen changes stating that the BacklightOff shortcut was started.

Here what I found in another thread.

copying the tool.cad was the trick :)

Enjoy, Olaf

Hi

Download this tool

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;DisplayLang=en

Install on your PC then find the following file

C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Security Configuration Manager\tool.cab

copy it to your v1415

run it from your phone

reboot your phone

then connect your phone to your PC run the Device Security Manager

it should say your device is connected

Save the config as something you will remember (in case things go wrong!!)

Then change "Selected Configuration" to security off

Then Provision your phone

Reboot the phone

and thats it

All the best

I'm just using TPC and it doesnt change at all when there is dimming of display or full brightness. Oh well nevermind, I guess theres not a way to check accurately. I'm going to make it overclocked as and when I need it and not change speeds everytime it dims etc.

I downloaded and installed TPC14.cab, tcmdphone.cab (install failed) and OmapClock 2.0 onto my s710. Now the icons on the display on the home page have changed and look weird. Also, overclocking reverts to default setting on restart. Help!

If the device is slowing down the cpu, then the battery would last much longer. - So you your battery time is VERY short, then it dosnt work.

So there is no other way to check it than looking at battery life ? :(

Is there any way for overclocking HTC S730? Would it help make it faster? Because I'm not happy with the speed...

It should be the same as overclocking S710 - read the thread from beginning and try ;] Should work...

The tool itself is made for HTC Tornado which is just like S710 a 200MHZ product.

HTC S730 is 400MHZ and therefore I'm not going to risk it.

Anyone else willing to try first?

OK, I have tried it now a couple of times, but it is not working right!
I tried to load TornadoPowerControl on startup with load.exe, so that it would not show up as a application, only as process and that it is running in automatic mode, from 132-228 MHz. But either it pops open or it doesn't but is still an application and not an hidden process!
Any ideas how I have to set up the TornadoPowerControl.lnk ins StartUp?

I know how to hide it on startup but don't know how to make it only show in processes. I would be interested too.

How do you hide it? It worked once, then I tried to make a cab for the whole thing with load.exe TPC and the shortcut and then it stopped working!

Dr. Martin Gonzo

You have to add the "hide" argument to your shortcut.

for exemple : \Windows\TornadoPowerControl.exe hide

frauhottelmann

Yeah, I tried it this way: a shortcut in startup named TornadoPowerControl.link and in it:
43#"\Windows\load.exe" -hide "\Program Files\TornadoPowerControl\TornadoPowerControl.exe"
It works, when you start it from there TPC is there only as a process, but when I restart the phone, it still pops up and often the phone locks up!

OK it's not working when you put it in the startup folder, so I'll just execute it from the start menu. Then it only shows up as a process. The link is the same!

Do you think it can be doine by playinf in HKLM\Init ? I've never tried that but I suppose it contains a list of essential programs launched at startup

It kinda works, I am still trying!

frauhottelmann

OK right now I have made a registry key and it starts up hidden, but the app is still in the task manager, but you can't close it, you can only close the process or open TPC and click exit.
Make a new String Value, name it Launch101 and the Value is
load.exe -hide \..\Program Files\TornadoPowerControl\TornadoPowerControl.exe
Where load.exe has to be in the Windows folder, if you have TPC in windows you don't need the whole path, just TPC.exe

Hi guys, I am back from vacation. Did anybody find a solution for the hidden autostart? I would really like that instead of starting it myself everytime!

Can anybody explain me why everywhere on the net it says that VOX has TI OMAP 850 tuning on 201 MHz, but when I open Tornado PowerControl it say's that default speed is 180 MHz?

h4waii

That's an issue with TPC. The IT OMAP 850 has 2 cores, ARM926 which can clock at 200MHz and the ARM7+C54 baseband which can run indepedent of the primary ARM.

TPC isn't reading properly, neither do most other applications that display the 'clock speed' such as tcpmp.

I think it regards the facts the TCP has this 180 Mhz for normal settings so it sets your CPU to 180 instead of 200 just that.
You can change it manually to 200 instead of 180 is just a programmer's choice. IMHO

For example I edited in the reg the values of CPUAuto1= 132, CPUAuto2= (left to 180 for reduce normal battery drain), CPUAuto3= (full power to 264). So I'll have power when I need it. I put tornado in automatic mode Then I close and restart tornado if it was running..and then i have my TOrnado configured.

I followed this and my Vox started to re-start itself each time it loaded windows. Before I had it in 252 mhz (not 264) "Manual" and it was fine. So I'll go back to 252.

Well, as my phone kept on re-starting by itself, and I didn't feel like doing a hard-reset at the time, I did the following:

1.Took out the battery
2.Started the phone and when I got the prompt for the SIM pass (which is always before loading apps on \StartUp)
3.Connected the phone to PC
4.While on ActiveSync from PC opened: \Windows\StartUp and erased "TornadoPowerControl.exe.ink"

So in this way I was able to start my phone normally.

Then I opened HKLM\Software\TornadoPowerControl and set "CPUAuto3" back to 252. However when I started Tornado from the Start Menu my Vox re-started again by itself. Once it re-started I tried starting Tornado manually again (thinking that maybe re-start was needed due to the registry change) and again my phone re-started itself.
Finally I uninstalled Tornado and then installed again and followed the steps in post #20 (as before).

BTW, just to mention I got a later version of Tornado: 2.0 b4

Another thing: before checking this thread, I had installed Tornado and changed CPUAuto3 from 228 to 252 and CPUSpeed from 180 to 252.

After having the issues and re-installing Tornado, I didn't change the registry and just went and followed post #20. Well when I checked speed with Omap after re-starting device the speed shown as Manual - 180. So I went back to change the registry.

Pharmako

What I did:

After installing Tornado, the only value I changed in the registry:

CPUAuto3 from 228 to 252.

The I set Tornado CPU settings to automatic.

Finally with RescoExplorer I created a shortcut for TornadoPowerControl.exe, move it to \StartUp and edited with Total Commader to add the word "hide" at the end of command.

So now my Vox starts at 252, runs at 180 with dim light or when no apps are running besides tornado and task manager and I'm assuming that on standby is running at 132 (as per registry default settings).
