Blackberry Connect, HEX, compatibility

Got a bit puzzled reading the German manual for Blackberry connect

It says that on the VPA Compact III (Hermes) all roms are supported.
If I have time I might try it tonight on a non hex edit rom.

Old flaky manual.

Tried it myself again on one of the new roms.
No success with both 2.x and 4.x.
