View Full Version : THIS IS How to get VOIP Working with 3G on Wm6 Trinity

I have seen numerous posts on this and alot of depressed people trying to get VOIP working with 3G on their trinity, after alot of forum reading and testing I have found a bulletproof solution. It lets you configure your SIP settings, you can make calls and receive calls and hear and people can hear you over wifi and 3G. However, I cannot get incoming calls to ring at all when using 3G only (it works with WIFI flawlessly). So basically unfortunately VOIP as it is now with wm6 only lets you make VOIP over 3G (you cannot receive calls as it just doesnt ring, I suspect it is a firewall issue as over wifi it doesnt ring till I open up ports on my router).

First install the first VOIP file, it has sip config built it. YAY lol

Now you need a cab extractor program like wince manager, which you can download for free www.ocpsoftware.com/products.php?nm=cecabmgr

Now extract the rtc.dll file in the second cab I have attached and copy it to your windows folder and overwrite the one currently there. Without the dll file VOIP works but u cannot hear anything when the other party talks. Once you overwrite this dll, and u have to use Resco file explorer or similar, then VOIP works 100%. Ofcourse you have to run sipconfig, and enable VOIP over 3g and put in your SIP settings

Thats it. Pretty easy fix right :D

Dear mcq3000
Can you share with us which VoIP provider you tested this method with, and can you post your dialplan?
Thanks

I did everything that is described in this thread.
On the today-screen it says my accountname and available. But how can I make a voipcall then?

I use MUNs 2.01 TE ROM.

I use MUNs 2.01 TE ROM.

Just click once on the today plugin and "available" will change to "selected"
Then make a call as usual and you'll see your voip network name instead of the gsm carrier.

Thanks!
I reinstalled the files from above now, and now it only says on the today-screen:
"Internet Calling: No Service"
It seems, that voip does not connect at all now. :(
When I click on this line, it opens the Internet Calling settings page of the phone.

with skypho.net it doesn't work, it tells me "Skypho:no service", and if I make a phone call him it activates the gsm :( Does someone succeed us?

the rtc.dll was not cancelled but I has glued him above, this ok?

thanks for any suggestion

to open the cab and extract the file you need to use wince cab manager program. You cannot just open cab with winrar to see contents, those arent the real file contents. Get Wince cab manager and install it and open cab with that program and you will see dll and you can extract dll.

in fact I have used wince cab manager,
can be that with Skypho.net it has in anymore this configuration stun?

Dominio voip.eutelia.it
Sip Proxy Server voip.eutelia.it
Sip Proxy Socket 5060
Stun Server stun.voip.eutelia.it
Stun Server Socket 3478

also tried with Stun but nothing.
and also activated the door 5060 from the register on 1 in voip sip.
Do I have to change telephone manager?

thanks still

Sorry - just looking for solid confirmation - been tearing my hair out to get this working. I install the VM VI Black VOIP & Config.CAB on my phone and replace the rtcdll.dll file once extracted from WM6VoIP.CAB using resco explorer. when you refer to fist and second files - it's better to specify file names to be sure we're all singing from the same songsheet!

It works for me !

I follow the tutorial except, I did my own cab with my provider settings instead of using SIP Config Tool and I made a new ipdialspan with french parameters.

Now, I wonder if it's possible to use internal speaker or bluetooth headset instead of external speaker ! Anybody knows ?

May the force be with us

did some more testing and found an odd thing.

If you use a wired headset it works 100% of the time! Infact if while using a wired headset you unplug the wired headset it starts to sound on the phone speaker. however if you just use phone with no headset then sometimes it works, most times you get this loud static sound through phone speaker.

The whole thing is very weird. I dont know.

Does anyone here have LVSW rom, the old one that had VOIP (v. 2.0.0.5) so we can get the voip files lvsw used? I am pretty sure when i did this hack with his rom that it worked 100% of the time even without a headset.

with the 2.0.0.7 has worked well me an only time, and the phone call has also lasted 5 minutes, but has not worked anymore then, there is the classical rustle in the external loudspeaker.
then the phone calls in exit it tells me that I have to retry to make the number or the service
it is not available. the credit is ok

this thread is for getting VOIP working 100% over 3G. Over wifi my voip works 100%. I can make and receive calls and i can hear and people can hear me.

Over 3G there are 2 main problems

1. When people dial me my phone doesnt ring. Incoming calls do not ring to voip. They ring when using WIFI but not when using 3G

2. We cannot hear other person talking most times. We hear loud static noise on back speaker (speakerphone). I can get this working by using a wired headset only, same thing happens (static noise) when using bluetooth.

I have also tried other SIP clients like agephone. And I have this exact same issues! So this is unique to Trinity and Windows mobile 6 because my old phone, a Sprint PPC 6700, I could use agephone, and it received calls and i could hear both parties over 3g!

There is some type of bug with trinity audio routing when using VOIP and with the network drivers or something when receiving calls.

Ok, I have a hermes also. And I just installed Lvsw rom for wm6 for hermes. Now the VOIP built into this rom, it works perfectly over 3G internet. Calls are clear, you can hear and people can hear you over speaker, headset and bluetooth! So the VOIP in Wm6 Hermes rom by lvsw works perfectly. I just copied the voip files and dll from that rom, I will copy it to my trinity and cross my fingers and hope it works. If not we might just have to wait for offficial wm6 trinity rom with proper voip files because I cannot get it working

The issue of not being able to receive incoming calls because phone doesnt ring is stil there however. I think this is a firewall issue by Cingular Carrier beause it works over Wifi perfectly for incoming calls, so I think we can abandon that as a bug.

I am going to do everything I can to get VOIP working on trinity, I will not give up, unlimited calls of my trinity is the holy grail lol

antonio, sorry you dont understand, I cannot explain it any better, I wish I spoke Italiano, io no capisco italiano molto bene. Sorry :D My Italian is bad.

well after some more testing I found a neat little trick. If you get the static when you make a phone call, press the green dial button and it will show hold on dialer screen, press it again and you will get sound through your speaker or headset or bluetooth headset! So now I can dial and always hear the other party now and carry on conversations over UMTS and 3G and it works pretty darn well.

Trinity wm6 roms are buggy, I think that is the problem, official wm6 roms do not have this problem like on the HTC Tytn for example.

mcq3000 - thanks for this trick - have yet to try it - but this will work with the external speaker, right? won't work with the pone earpiece? I had almost given up on hunting for the solution to VoIP because of work and family commitments, but I see that together we will get there. There is hope!

I can't even get it to work over wifi.
I'm using voipbuster, people can hear me and the sound is surprisingly good, but i can't hear the other end of the line.

Also, when the otherside hangs up the phone, my connection isn't broken it just keeps going, of course nobody is on the other end anymore, it's just strange.

grazie ;)

do excuse me, but don't I succeed there, is it perhaps my ROM? must the earphone be with the thread or without? I have tried her all and two but not và, there is particularly a procedure
the sipvoipconfig has been modified x the prefix ITA and now it is all right, the phone calls go out and the other telephone rings
thanks ;)

Thanks for this. I've been trying to get VOIP working on my TyTn for ages.

Two questions though. I have the the VOIP SIP Config tool on my cell now. I have configured it to use my VOIP account. My Today screen shows Voipfone: No Service (instead of Blocked as it did before). Obviously, I don't currently have a connection. So...

Question 1: How do I configure it to use 3G? (I set SIP over 3G/GSM: On through the config tool and it shows as On when I Check Status).
Question 2: Do I still need a VOIP client such as SJPhone installed? If not, how do I make calls.

Sorry if these are dumbass questions. WM6 is still a black art to me :)

UPDATE: Ok. I've answered my second question now. It's no. I was in Bromley this afternoon and found an open network. My voip suddenly said Available and when I clicked it, it said Selected. I could make calls via the normal phone component (or I could if it didn't drop the network).

For my first question though, I know from reading the posts that lots of people are having problems with this. Does anyone have a definitive answer yet?

debully
01-07-2007, 01:55 AM
cant give you a definitive answer as I'm no expert. But I've read good things about 3rd party freeware 'Fring' and it may well work on you Tytn.
It does NOT work with the Trinity however (no sound from Mic)

Help! I set this up, and I get CallCentric: Available on the today screen, but when I click on it, it takes me to the phone options and asks me to set the calling network, options are 'Whenever available', which is what i have it set to, 'only if cellular not available', and 'never'.

Isn't it supposed to set to connected when I click on 'Available' on the today screen?

When I go to the phone dialer it still says AT&T UMTS.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

I have HTC touch and was trying to make VOIP client work on it. Sometimes it works but most of the time it show " Internat call: searching" when it is Available it works but again not all the time. I have set to internet calling "Whenever available"

I some question:
1] How can I force the phone to always use native dialer to dial VOIP calls out when I dial 91+ <phone number> and use ATT cell service when I dial 92 + <phone number>

2]I am new to WM, I would like to integrate this dialing plan with my application can someone give me basic links to study and program that. I want to use my application to dial out and receive calls.

Try shap's configuration tool.

It's like trinityhacks, with more feature.

There is an option to remove security warnings, and pretty good voip configuration tool.

The native VoIP on HTC's phone is not that sensitive.
So what you can do to make it sense that there is an internet connexion available is:

- turn off internet call by setting it to 'never'

-once it displays: internet calling OFF on the today screen, re-enter settings tab and select: whenever available.
It will start searching, and then displays:available or directly: selected

I think it sleeps to deep when on standby, so you've got to wake it up!

Well, currently I'm using Sjphone, and it works pretty well on my P3600.
The good point is that you can have different profiles (for example different accounts, from different SIP providers) and swap whenever u want.
The only bad point is that the sound comes from the back speaker, not the ear-piece one.
So you'd better use earphone, otherwise, the person you are talking to keep hearing his own voice and may complain about that.

Regarding the native SIP features, I have to say that it stopped working after one week or so.
Troubles to call through, and no sound at all, neither from the ear-piece nor from the back speaker.
I guess I'll have to do a hard reset, but since it works with Sjphone, I'll keep using it like that for a while.

Hello, I have looked everywhere on solution on my Trinity for VOIP, I pretty much got everything working but the sound from speaker/ear-piece. None of them works....I understand it is soemthing to do with the rtcdll.dll file located in /windows, I have tried about 2 to 3 differnet files posted in this site...but still no luck...when I call a phone with VOIP the phone rings but all I hear is noises......when I try to turn the speaker higher.

Thanks in Advance.

How can I modify the dialplan you put in the DLL inside the CAB file you uploaded?
In my trinity, inside the Sipconfig I see the tab "dialplan", but it is empty and I can't modify it.
Could you upload again the CAB files without any Diaplan?
Thank You, Bye.

Hi all

This might be useful for others wanting to use VoIP with their Trinity...
Like many others, I had some difficulty to get it to work; the important thing is that it now works good enough for me (calling out) and this little overview of my setup might be just the piece of information you need.

I currently use AX3L_OS_v2.0.8.2 (and AX3L_ExtROM_Plus_2.0.9.8), and to also enjoy VoIP calling (with voipcheap), I only needed to install the following:

WM6 VoIP.CAB: enables Today's "Internet Calling" and adds "VOIP Sip Config" program;
SetupVoIP_v0.3.CAB: adds "Setup VoIP" program;
SJphone-PPC2003-303c.cab: great alternative;

There are a couple of issues, however, being:

- The WM6 VoIP "Internet Calling" uses the ear speaker (front) but clicking "Speaker on" when calling, to use the loud speaker (back), has no effect;
- also sometimes the call is OK, and sometimes I just get loud static (often some redials suffice);
- I cannot use the "VOIP Sip Config" program because an error pops up stating that the file 'SipConfig' cannot be opened... (that's why I install the second cab);
No real issues here: this cab lets me configure the WM6 VoIP quite easily, since I cannot use the "VOIP Sip Config" program;
SJphone uses the loud speaker (back), but has no "static" problems like the WM6 VoIP has;

I also use SkypeForPocketPC_2_2_0_20-2_Beta.CAB in some cases, but I am not really fond of the latest SkypeOut fees (and it also uses the loud speaker like SJphone does)...

Hope this helps :cool:

WM6 VoIP.CAB: enables Today's "Internet Calling" and adds "VOIP Sip Config" program;
SetupVoIP_v0.3.CAB: adds "Setup VoIP" program;
SJphone-PPC2003-303c.cab: great alternative;

There are a couple of issues, however, being:

- The WM6 VoIP "Internet Calling" uses the ear speaker (front) but clicking "Speaker on" when calling, to use the loud speaker (back), has no effect;
- also sometimes the call is OK, and sometimes I just get loud static (often some redials suffice);
- I cannot use the "VOIP Sip Config" program because an error pops up stating that the file 'SipConfig' cannot be opened... (that's why I install the second cab);
No real issues here: this cab lets me configure the WM6 VoIP quite easily, since I cannot use the "VOIP Sip Config" program;

I also use SkypeForPocketPC_2_2_0_20-2_Beta.CAB in some cases, but I am not really fond of the latest SkypeOut fees (and it also uses the loud speaker like SJphone does)...

Great Thread!

A few questions come to mind though.

Whilst reading this entire thread, there has been some updated files applied. Would it be possible to add an 'edit' to the first post with the latest and greatest working versions and procedures.:)

Also, a contact of mine was using the LSWV rom on his Dopod 838pro which used the standard dialer for VOIP calls. He indicated to me that his Voip would use a wifi link if available otherwise it would default to using the 3G data.

He also mentioned that he could make and receive calls over VOIP and basically that VOIP was a 2nd line to his handset. This is what i want to achieve!

I already had the voip running on my (was) Orange M3100 with latest Wm6 - on outgoing WIFI calls all is well. On incoming calls - the mic on the mobile doesn't seem to work - so I tried your version - exactly the same - it's as if only on incoming wifi voip calls, the mic is not turned on... any ideas anyone?

As a work-around for all of those having difficulties with setting-up Voip on their phone I recommend fring (http://www.fring.com/). Fring is all-in-one communicator that replaces icq, msn, yahoo messenger, skype and many others.
It supports voip out-of-the box. No installing extra cabs and copying dll's by resco required :-)
I'm using it for making phone calls via VoipCheap and as a voice and text chat to Yahoo, Msn and Google Talk.
As a matter of fact Fring in it's version 0.3 lacks with respect to usability but is already capable to replace tons of software on your Kaiser.
Hope you will like it too :-)

So can you call to landline phones with Fring?

Can u use Fring with 3G?

Has anybody here used VoipStunt over 3G?

I have used it successfully but only with WiFI, I'm really anxious to test it with 3G

Fring is ok on 3G and Wifi.

As far as VOIP concerns, both fring and SJphone are good. Fring has intergrated skype, MSN, google etc and has very small memory requirement.

SJphone is quite good indeed. There is no need to install SETUP_VOIP, etc.
Just SJPhone downloads from its website.

I use VOIPBuster. Not difficult to set up. Voice is clear.

exactly the SAME service, configurator, files, etc...like the first post!

just install-and-use !!!!!

It's working.

I apologize if this is a newbie question, but is there a way to make VOIP calls without using any additional software such as Fring, Voicecheap, etc., and be able to call out to landlines?

I have paid extra to purchase a 3G Sim Card and my Trinity shows that 3G is available, however, when I use the video call option on my dialpad, I see a quick image of myself with the VGA front Camera and then it says "Fail to make the video call, What do you want to do? Try again, Make voice Call, send SMS or send MMS?"

What I basically would like to do is make a VOIP call to a landline without incurring any charges and without having to use a 3rd party app and if possible to make a video conferencing call where I can see the other party's video, and vice versa...

Am I missing something?? Any additional information would be greatly appreciated... Thanks :)

3 things for you.

1. you need to have a Voip account with someone, ie voipcheap or any Voip provider who will provide a flat rate VOIP call for you. As such some some software has to be installed, (this thread actually is about trying to activate the inbuilt voip function of WM6, but you have install the cab files. And it still seams to be a hit and miss affair) Or load Fring, and enter your voip account details into that.

2. if you want to make a video call your handset must have 3G beside the antenna icon, and your network has to support it.

3.Voip calls will still have to either use a wireless network (home or work) otherwise you still have to pay for the data used on your phone network(minor cost), plus the cost of the voip call(usually dirt cheap).

Overall, if you can get Voip working it should easily save you $$$

Im still trying to get the built in one to work. No luck yet with the Trinity WM6 or Tytn II. :(

Hello,
Though the 3 points must have made things pretty clear, I just want to add a little information:

- VoIP calls and technology has nothing to do with 3G video calls.

- U can get cheap rates VoIP calls using any internet connection (wifi, 3G, even Edge if the speed is good enough) but this is for voice calls only, so far video services when you're using VoIP technology, or even internet technologies are not available. Even third party applications such like skype, sjphone, live messenger, fring etc. do not provide video service, only voice.

- if you wanna use 3G video calls, u must do it through your operator network at this operator rates which are usually not cheap.
For the video call to work, the person you are calling must have (I guess) the a 3G connexion with a phone with video calls capacity too.
Maybe when you tried before, the other person did not fulfill the above conditions...

Thank you for your reply :) I can get fring, live messenger & skype to work, but I too would like to get the inbuilt voip function in WM6 to work without any 3rd party software. My service provider is AT&T (Eastern U.S.), previously Cingular, however I have not confirmed whether or not they support Video Calling or voip. However, my 3G icon does switch back and forth to HSDPA when browsing the internet, not sure if this confirms anything or not... I guess my question is if I install the 2 cab files in the 1st post, can I connect to a landline without installing any 3rd party application using the video call icon on my 3G dialpad, just to hear it ring and have someone pickup on the other end would be a great accomplishment, video is not that important (though I wonder what the extra VGA camera in the front is used for)? I pay an extra $20 per month for the 3G Internet Access and don't want to incur additional charges for VOIP calls to landlines.

Again, thank you very much for your reply, however I am still a bit confused. I have been successful in using Fring, Live Messenger and Skype. I understand that the video portion of it does not currently work, but I would be happy just to be able to place an outbound voice call using the built in voip over 3g or wifi without using anything 3rd party apps and connect to a land line. Is this possible? I guess the next step would be to call my operator network and ask what their rates are for 3G voip calls and whether or not they even support this functionality...

I hope I didn't confuse the issue even more... Nonetheless, I do appreciate the feedback and additional info.

Good luck to us all :)

The answer is yes.
If you install the wm6voip.cab that will give you the needed DLL files etc. and the Shap's voip configuration cab that will help you to set your voip service provider settings, you will be able to place voip calls toward landlines or mobile phone numbers.

Depends of the sound codecs used by your specific voip provider (voipcheap, voipdiscount etc.) there might be some audio troubles, but anyway it worthes a try.

And yes, it would be wise, if you are planning to use your 3G connection to make sure that using the quota of datas provided to you that this is not going to be too expansive.

Once you get it all working, place a few calls and then check out your data consumption to understand how much it's going to cost you if you continue making voip over 3G calls.

I have unlimited internet access with the 3G, it's a flat rate of $19.99 per month with AT&T, so I"m not worry about the data usage.

However, if I use a provider such as voipcheap or voipdiscount, I believe they do charge some sort of fee if dialing to landlines or other cellular phones. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I just don't think it would be worth it if I have to pay more out of pocket expense for high probability of poor quality calls... I guess I'm asking if there are any free voip providers, if so where can I get these settings to enter into Schaps Configuration? It does not appear to be any providers which offers free calls to landlines, it's only free if the other party is using software such as msn, fring, yahoo, etc.

Thanks again your help.

Excuse me for my englisg because i am French, I have installed Voip cab and sipConfigTool, all is ok, in the first time when Voip call is established i must apply 2 times on the green bouton for the voice then i have changed these 2 values by registry in :
HKCU_Controlpanel_SoundCategorie_IncallFeedback then change by Midi2Wave_079_4098.way on the "DefaultSound" line
HKCU_Controlpanel_Sound_DialingVoio then change also by Midi2Wave_079_4098.way on the "Sounbd" line .

Since one month i use this very well by Wifi, the sound is by speaker loud but it is acceptable with Gsm610 codec (no echo problem just the voice is metallic same a gsm call) :). But my problem is no sound in 2 way in outcall under 3g and it is very starnge in incoming call , when the correspondant have a Phone number caller id i can heard very clear but no micro (he can't heard me), but no caller id nos sound in the 2 ways:mad:.
Can some one help me please ,i don't know if this thread is open or not ???

I haven't been around for a while and I was wondering what the "current state" of VOIP on Trinity is.
Last time I checked most roms had problems with VOIP:
- Sound over "external" speaker instead of phone speaker
- Sound only in one direction (even after opening the ports)
- Not working via 3G - this seems fixed

I didn't want to open a seperate thread but if someone could give me a short summary of which problems still exist and which Roms have overcome those issues.

Thanks in advance, Zak

Hello Sleuth255,
How are you, don't see your post in this thread since a long time; excuse me for my english, it will French's word in my text, hope your comprehension completed ...This is my Voip's experience :
Step 1 : installed voipcab, change "rtcdll" for HTC Trinity and French's "ipdialplan"
Step 2 : delete value in HKCU_ControlPanel_soundcategories_IncallFeedback line "DefaultSound"
delete value in HKCU_Controlpanel_Sounds_DialingVoip line "Sound"
This is only for Trinity specific problem
Then it work very well with wifi connection , have change also a lot of values in HKCU_ControlPanel_AudioAdvContrl (Bass/HpVol/ReceiveVol/ReceiveVol/SuperBass), quality and volum are correct and i use every day , only 1 hour by call , cut by my sip provider , Freecall .
Step 3 : Under 3g+ HSDPA the call pass and i can stay 15 mn but no sound in 2 ways . Then i install your GSM610cab , i see a command is added in HKLM_Comm_RTC_NAT , "EnableearlyUDPPackets 1", what is it ? Because i have 1 way audio (i can heard) with this; very strange ....

This is my last problem, i need voip with 3g+

Hi guys,

which one is the HTC Trinity rtcdll.dll ? There's been a few CABs bounced around and I'm getting confused now =(..AFAIK the rtcdll.dll in the 2nd file on the first post of this thread is still making sound come out of the loudspeaker..

some people have reported being able to hear through the internal speaker, I don't know if this is what they're experiencing, but that's technically true because the loudspeaker is right behind the internal speakers on the trinity's, of course you can hear it THROUGH the phone itself.. but then, so can everyone else within a 5 meter radius, and that defeats the purpose of an internal speaker.. any resolution to this? And please don't say use a bluetooth headset :( , I use a Motorola S9 for music and that thing sux bigtime as a phone headset..

And has anyone got an rtcdll.dll out there for the trinity that works with the "use speakerphone" button in-call to switch speakers?

Thanks heaps in advance! :):cool:

I am sorry for the misunderstanding (added a "-"), but I never said free but "hassle free" which means that there's not several installs and a dozen tweaks required to make AGEphone Mobile 2.5 work.
