29th May 2007, 01:19 PM
Hi all,

Last days I was working hard to improve the kitchen, finally I think it's ready. This is release ver.3, first two releases can be found here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=307037

I added some tools, used a new rom as base, well... it's all written down here.

Here you go V3!

http://vidmes.com/Uni/Kitchens/DEV_UNI_Laurentius26_WM6_Kitchen_ver.3.rar

I'm adding some OEM's to improve the ROM you are cooking.

You can find them here:

http://vidmes.com/Uni/Kitchens/Laurentius26/

-HTCHomeplug.
-Bluetooth OBEX enabled.
-Wifi 802 b/g support.
-VOIP.
-HTC TaskManager.

Unpack in c:\dev_uni\OEM\

Cheers,

Leo :)

Rom details:

Windows Mobile 6 Professional:

CE OS: 5.2.1413
Build: 17913.0.3.0
SP: AKU 0.3

Status: Beta version

So finally let's start building.

"Warning: Before you start building unhide hidden files on your desktop!"

Extract the kitchen to "C:\DEV_UNI\"

Run BuildOS.exe ( temp dir will be created. )
Run CreateOS.bat or CreateOS inc. Radio 1.15.bat
after finish building HTC64_Extended_ROM tool will start.
Select Encode:
Browse to C:\Dev_Uni\Temp\nk.prj
Klick next and Select:
-Extended ROM file: C:\DEV_UNI\temp\nk.nbf
-FAT16 file: C:\DEV_UNI\temp\nk.nba
-Operator name: ‘Your operator’.
Klick Encode.
It will give an error saying: FAT16 is to large. Continue at your own risk?
Ignor and Klick OK.
-It says: Encode successful!
Klick OK.
Exit the HTC64 Extended ROM tool.

Device update utility will start.

Put your device in bootloader (Push: ‘Power, Backlight, Softreset’ at once) and connect to your pc!

Run the update!

After updating your device you will have my ROM Build 1 based on Lt.Cmdr.Ivan v3. :D

Modification’s:

-Backlight button added.
-Wifi G mode added.

Added the following OEM’s:

-PocketXpdf.
-SMS Backup.
-Startclean.

Fixed Midlet Manager (now it works with opera mini)

Removed the following apps:

-Voice Command.
-voIP
-HTCHome.
-Taskmanager.

I added some tools to the kitchen to make work more easy!

Dev_Uni, REGEDIT:
-defaulthv.bat (batchfile to edit default.hv)
-userhv.bat (batchfile to edit user.hv)

"When the command window opens it tells you exactly what to do, read carefully please!"

"default\user.hv are the registry hives of your OS, be careful with what you do, don’t blame me if something goes wrong!"

<<<<< THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU EDIT! >>>>>

Dev_Uni, Documentation:
Added some links to webpages about rom building.

Dev_Uni, Extra’s:
-Cab Analyzer (For studying and extracting cabs, this is necessary for building a OEM)
-Hex Editor (For editing Hexadecimal, didn’t find it yet but you can change pagefile with it).

Dev_Uni, Backup:

Here I place a backup of the following files before I start editing!

-default.hv
-user.hv
-initflashfiles.dat (this file can be found in C:\Dev_UNI\OEM\OEM_Lang_0409),
you need to modify this file when building OEM’s, it places the files in the write directory’s.

Also *.rgu files can be placed here before you edit, so if something goes wrong….

<<<<<YOU SHOULD DO THE SAME!>>>>>

Remember, I’m still working on the kitchen.
I’m not one of the great rom designer’s yet ;) , but every day I’m learning.

Enjoy building your own WM6.

Many thanks to:

- Bepe
- Helmi_c
- Mamaich
- Midget_1990
- Lt.Cmdr.Ivan
- GerardNL (for the WIKI)
- Leies (for helping with batchfile’s)
- Naboleao (same)
- Grayme (cheers my friend!)

Thanks,

I added B and G Mode support, but didn't test it yet.
Now I'm building kitchen and rom. Flashing, flashing, testing, haha..
VoIP you will have later, I wanted to release the kitchen and that's a lot of work.

I finally had a chance to download the kitchen and been playing with it. Out of the box it all works fine.

It also works great with a couple of extra OEM packages (some from Ranju kitchen, so some special thanks to him).

Currently, the build process tells me I've used 14e65 sectors. I wonder how many there are left, since I do have a few more packages I would like to add...

So, Leo thanks for the work and keep it up :-)

Hi Gerard,

Thanks!

Did you flash already the default?

I'm using my Uni now, from work!

Internet, Windows Live, all working great if I may say so.

As always, I keep on working to the kitchen!

My wishes:

-Another splasscreen!
-Extended Rom to use your own Cabs to install, after hardreset offcourse!

Hi Leo

I did flash the default and it was all in working order. It was looking great, but I didn't use it very long: I just spend some time last week creating my own CAB files with my settings (Today screen, operator name, ring tone etc etc) and I have some software I like, Like TCPMP. Some as CABs and some Packages. So I included them in a custom ROM (also a little bit to find out how many sectors can be used).

I was all ready to do some serious testing, but when walking out of my office, I had the very bad misfortune to drop my phone a few minutes ago. It happened a few times in the past as well, but this time, the LCD screen is cracked !!! When I turn on the screen, it just stays white (except for the black cracks).

I've opened up the phone and wrote down the part numbers of the screen. I hope I can find a replacement screen (or phone).

So, no more playing with my UNI for me for a while, but back to my Blue Angel back-up phone. :-(

About the Extended ROM: I have been thinking the same thing. For this purpose, I came across these 2 URLs that might be of use to you:

Hi Aniel,

Don't know wich rom you are using, but it isn't mine mate with the kitchen.

If you want I can give you a empty ext. rom which you can use, after buildOS you can place it in the temp dir. Than you run the device update util. I will have a look at the registry settings later. I'm not at home right now.

I am using midget's rom so far. though i have downloaded your kitchen I am a bit apprehensive using the new method of sending it to the device. I am not very good at clicking too many *.exe files. Perhaps it will take more guts to do that one of the weekends.

I just put my question above to know the procedure as you guys are turning out to be good rom kitchen cookers.:)

Its really great to see thing goin in universal developmemt now... lets make everybody a rom chef shall we??

btw this is a little tips..If you dont do it already..
to make thing simple edit the nk.prj:

PU10 O2___001 WWE 2.00.02 Universal 0 70000000100000 0 16111110000000 d9184d84
3
0
C:\DEV_UNI\Temp\nk.nbf
C:\DEV_UNI\Temp\nk.nba
C:\DEV_UNI\Temp\nk.nb

to
PU10 O2___001 WWE 2.00.02 Universal 0 70000000100000 0 16111110000000 d9184d84
3
0
nk.nbf
nk.nba
nk.nb

that will make the dev folder not hardcode to C:\Dev_uni, and that way user might freely extract it to anywhere they need.

Congratulation guys.. Its gettin more interesting with Uni development!..

Dear helmi_c,

First: Do you no how to change the bootscreen?
Second: This *.dsm and *.rgu, are they necassary on the device?

And last question:

With the *.rgu files you can ad settings to default.hv or user.hv?
Boot.rgu = default.hc + user.hv.
If you write a OEM, for example with a *.rgu file, does this file overules default.hv or user.hv?

If you understand my gebrabbel?

Can you please confirm if I'm thinking right or wrong?

Would be great!

Sorry for so many questions ;)

Hi all,

I corrected some settings, just unzipp and ad this 2 beauty's to your OEM dir :D

They do this:

Bluetooth

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Obex] "IsEnabled"=dword:00000001

And second:

WIFI

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TIACXWLN1\PARMS]
“dot11SupportedRateMask”=dword:1

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TIACXWLN1\PARMS]
“dot11SupportedRateMaskG”=dword:8

I checked the registry settings and they are enabled on my device :D

Anyway, I'm still busy.

I've builded some OEM to improve the base ROM in this kitchen.

-HTCHomeplug.

-Bluetooth OBEX Enabled.

You can find them on the first page of this thread.

Hi.

I've been out for the week, Munich...

It was interesting to notice the radio behaviour: Couldn't reconnect to network after signal lost. I'm talking about GSM only, no GPRS or 3G data transfer.
Last week in France , no problem.
Over here in Portugal no problem with 1.09.

Back to topic. Thx for the kitchen, I will download and check around.

Any news about VOIP?

Does anyone have experienced such a problem with WM6. The phone keeps vibration and hang when incoming call.
For Ivan V3 I got one such problem a week. Someone said that the problem is due to using task manager but I not sure for that.

This issue exists in all the versions of WM6 that I had tested.

Is there anyway to work arround this issue.

Thanks.

Hi Ultravox,

OEM VOIP is ready, see page 1 of this thread.

Leo ;)

Cheers

I use other task manager, if we can choose, it would be better, I think. I need VOIP, but as OEM is OK for me.

Maybe you are right, I use:

-HandyMenu as taskmanager.
-AEButton

Lot of tasks: close apps, softreset, screenshot, etc,etc...

Small apps with a lot of functionality.

but... I will not provide these in my ROM.

Vanilla it should be :D

Hi all,

First page updated :D

Laurentius26_UNI_RV3.rar

Close to perfect if I may say so

Enjoy,

I must say that I envy you: you are getting more knowledge everyday. I need to get free time!!!!

From what I understood there's an amount of memory available to add apps.
Each one would like to have different ones: I don't use skype( voipbuster...) wisbar adv as task manager, no today plugin meters, etc

I would like to make a proposal:
Could we have a more vanilla kitchen and the apps as OEMs so that we can choose what to have on our ROM?

Now I'm a bit lost between your kitchen v3 and the ROMv3. Which is the most stable one, with less issues?

Cheers.

Offcourse you can build OEM's yourself.

I don't foresee to use serialised apps as OEM because of the new releases: i don't flash ROM so often as I install new versions.

Nevertheless, maybe there is a solution: how do you add your name/serial to the OEM? couldn't that info be deleted and included a txt with instructions where to add personal serial number?

I can, I just don't want flaming for posting OEMs that are in effect just trial versions until you acqire your own serial. :)

ultravox
6th June 2007, 12:46 PM
I do understand your concern. taking in account what we have seen in the forum during the last weeks, I would say that it was very well reminded.

People should know/learn that some apps need serial number, if they go to the apps website or they pay or get a trial, so they shouldn't expect that the OEM that the users provide (and have hard work with it) are all full working apps.

taking this, i would propose to add a TRIAL to the OEM name to avoid most of the problems, adding also instructions how to add the serial. probably a flashing note would also be nice to inform all that the commercial apps are trial versions :p

Hi,

Sorry guys that the update of the kitchen is taking so long.
First I want to fix the MMS problem.
I'm having a problem with initflashfiles.dat.
Maybe somebody know?
I'm trying too rebuild Arcsoft.

Initflashfiles.dat for Arcsoft is creating two directory's in UAContents\Emoticon:

-Emoticon_480x640
-Emoticon_240x320

I mate a mistake in passed with some of the files in initflash, by excident I called it 480x620. I corrected that in initflash.
When I cook the rom everything is running ok and it flashes normal.
But when I look om my device in My document\UAContents\Emoticon there are 3 subdirectory's 480x640, 240x320, "480x620". "Why is 480x620 created?" Can't find any string related in initflash\Arcsoft! Do I have to look somewhere els? What is causing this?

boot.rgu?
default.hv?
user.hv?

Any help would be highly appriciated.

Leo :)

Leo,

You're doing a great job, but from my understanding, it should be better to get some straight collaboration between the experts.

You used a new base for your ROM, Ivan just released the V5 and just a few days after he released the Touch ROM based.

I try to follow the most important post, but for me it's not clear any more what are the benefits of each ROM.

If I decide to update, I don't know why and what to choose.

I hope you can do a review of the available ROM and choose the best one as base for the new kitchen. Maybe Ranju could also work on this?
It would be very useful as Ranju made on is post, to list in detail the ROM.

Keep up the excellent work .

Hi Ultravox,

I don't want to do a whole review, it's busy enough :D

What I can tell is that I tested a lot of roms, also tested Ivan's latest yesterday evening.

I don't understand why it's a older beta build than Midget uses?

-Ivan beta build 17745
-Midget beta build 17913

New HTC AudioManager looks great.

Think you have to test yourself which rom is best for you.

I flashed a 1000 times :D

-Softreset faster.
