A belt clip isn't going to be available for the case. i emailed them last Wednesday with the same question and got a reply Thursday, and they stated a belt clip wont be available because the unit is to heavy, and they dont want to risk damage to the unit.

I think £51 for a decent leather case is not bad considering they are hand made, looking forwards to mine arriving as the T-Mobile supplied case with my Ameo has done more damage than any abuse I could throw at the device, the plastic body has taken a hammering from the retaining lugs of the case - should look good in Green
As for a belt clip, it could prove embarassing - lets face it with the weight of the unit you could end up with trousers around the ankles in a very short time - Mike

I'm just going to put a chain around it and hang it on my neck. LOL, yea right.
How do you guys work around the plastic cover for the screen on the case? In my experience, when I purchased other cases with screen covers, the device wasn't very usable as I use the screen tap all the time. I had to cut the plastic out. I may have to do it with this one as well.

What plastic cover for the screen? I see no cover.
I see a small bit of plastic covering the LEDs, and there's a cutout or window for the status display. The screen area looks uncovered to me.
Mine may be here sooner than I thought, then! Red for me, as it'll look excellent in photographs.

Yes on the screen. I hope they didn't put one on there. Just makes no sense to me to put a cover on a touch screen device.
When yours arrives, would you mind posting some info on the case? Your likes/dislikes? I'm going to order one but will wait till next week possibly.

Of course I will post info, but I was told 15 days, as with the original post. If I have it sooner, then expect pictures and a mini review, because that's what I do :)

Sweet and thanks.
I wondering if they took our suggestions and implemented them into the design or if they came up with the case all on their own. I e-mailed Ruben a while back giving him a link to a post we started with things we would like to see of a case for this great device. One being the status window for when the phone is closed, etc.
I can't wait to read your mini-review.

i think the window in the case (which you can see the date and time), will not work , because the keyboard needs to be closed on the screen self, and now the case is between the keyboard and the screen
Maybe i could be wrong but a short test show me that this wil not work.
Please let me know if i'm wrong on this.

Just to clear up your confusion....
Turn your keyboard round so the CLEAR (Transparent, see-through, whatever you want to call it) plastic is over where the cut-out on the case would be. Et voila! You can now see the screen.

Yes but i mean, the funtion of this wil only work when the keyboard is flat tot the screen (then the screen wil turn over to the date and time function).
try it yourself without the case , and try to remove the keyboard slowely
then the screen turn out of the date and time mode.
sorry for my english i'm from the dutch.
i'll hope you see the point now, the case self suites oke with the window on it

Aha, I see what you mean. Yes, the cutout on this case is only useful for people like me who use the keyboard and carry it around with them.

How would having the unit on your belt instead of in your pocket change the fact that your pants don't fit and will end up around your ankles. The same amount of weight will be pulling your pants down either way. I sometimes carry much more weight on my belt than the x7500 and my pants don't fall down you just need to wear a belt.

Either option is a non-starter for 'average' sized blokes. There's no way I could get the Athena in any of my trouser pockets.... and it would just look bloody silly attached to my belt.

Um, that's not what he means at all.
What he's saying is that the Athena needs to "detect" the keyboard is flat across the screen, rather than not properly aligned or not quite attached - so the leather panel on the case will mean the keyboard is likely to not be detected and therefore, the software will not change over to display the status bar.
It depends on the thickness of the leather, but a quick test with my PDair case certainly shows this to be true. Despite the keyboard "snapping" into place across the screen magentically, the Ameo doesn't sense that it is properly closed, and therefore doesn't switch the display over to the status bar.

As previously posted...my pants fit. LOL
Im a fit young lad who wont have any embarrasing moments myself. The only embarrassment will be from those that think they have a cool phone then glance upon the Athena for the first time. LOL
take care and i hope you keep your pants up as ive never had that problem no matter the weight of my gadgets nor my utility belt. ;-)

Thanks Richard, I really wasn't getting that. I now see exactly what you mean. Even if it's out slightly the sub-display goes off.
I suppose we'll have to wait for someone to post a review to see if that's the case.

Just a quick question then. How do you carry your Athena then if it won't fit in your pockets? I'm on the move all day and if I had to hold it in my hand that would be impossible.

i have finnaly not bought the case, because of two reasons
1: to high price
2: the windows which will not work at all when the ameo is closed.
this one is much cheaper

Mine arrived today, great case very well made and it covers up the damage the Ameo suffered from the standard case allowing the keyboard to rub on the main body of the phone - being green I now have a Kermitt coloured Ameo, no more damage due to a poor case from now on - Mike

I got the case yesterday, but I'm waiting for some feedback from Piel Frama before I come up with a final opinion on it.
Initial impressions - i.e. what you're going to get right now from them - are "if you don't have a case already, it'll be alright", but the details are less good.
Essentially, the case is beautifully made. The leather is light and soft, and the colour is perfect; the red is really, really attractive. The magnetic keyboard attachment is good, though the use of a push stud instead of magnetic clasp is a bit 19th century for my tastes.
Functionally, it has a few issues, partly due to Piel Frama trying to make the case too perfect a fit. The headphone socket is partially obscured, and bringing the material this close to the body of the Ameo also means that the flap lacks space to flex around the keyboard - it tilts the unit forward unless you adjust the keyboard placement. The tradeoff is that it's a VERY snug fit when closed.
The screen aperture is not very accurate, and the way the leather is shaped, it goes out of "square" very easily - likewise, the little plastic window over the LEDs has already distorted slightly. This cellophane plastic is REALLY troublesome; I ended up slicing a "three rows" aperture out of my PDair case because the bit that holds the keyboard in distorted so much in three weeks I couldn't use the keyboard anymore.
The aperture for the USB port is a little tight, so some plugs don't fit fully.
The corner of leather between the stylus and camera button interferes with both.
And the little window for the status display only works for my Ameo if the keyboard is pressed and at an angle. This isn't Piel Frama's problem, this is due to the way the Ameo senses the keyboard is shut - but I get to look at "Contact" and "Calendar" buttons unless I adjust it just right. Still better than not being able to see it ever, though. Placement of power and comm manager cutouts needs to be revised somewhat, I think.
So far, I'm having a tough time deciding between the PDair case or the Piel Frama. There is absolutely NO doubt about the Piel Frama being utterly superior in material and build quality, and the magnetic keyboard attachment and status window are features very well suited to the Ameo - even if the latter is of variable success. However, the bit that houses the Ameo seems less suited to the purpose with excess leather on the sides combined with less-than-optimal placement of apertures for controls. Because each case is hand-made, I am hoping that this can be revised relatively easily, by eliminating some of the leather around the headphone jack (perhaps have it match the other side with a larger USB/headphone combined aperture and a 2mm increase in length of the hinged section to have slack for folding).
And the PDair case has a flush magnetic catch without any metal bits visible. The Piel Frama case's conventional catch means that it rocks when you are typing on a hard surface, as part of the catch protrudes below the keyboard.

Exactly the same problem here, received the case today, opened the box with excitement and....used the case with disappointment.
This is my 9th Piel Frama case and my very first disappointment in 5 years. Realy not worth the price and definitely not a 75 euros case, let's hope Covertec comes with a better model, or idealy NoReve...
This is what I wrote to Piel Frama tonight,
Dear Angélica,
It is with mixed feelings that I confirm that I received the case this morning.
Mixed feelings because, for the first time since 5 years, Piel Frama is below my expectations and the level I got used to.
First of all, both of us are very lucky, because your shipping department did not at all take into account my comments and delivery remarks, and shipped to the invoicing address, and not to the requested delivery address. The invoicing address is an empty office, not attended. Lucky a neighbor saw the TNT truck and took the delivery and signed for it, but this neighbor could have been someone else or simply be dishonest and not inform me, consequence would have been that you had a delivery and a signature, and I would not have the parcel, and we would have entered a dispute on non-delivery, your word against mine….
Anyway, concerning this part, we have been lucky and things are OK now.
The other part is worse, it is about the quality of he case.
Last week you appreciated my good words about Piel Frama, I hope you will not be offended by negative critics now.
The case is not what I was used to in the past. Here are the main points of disappointment, for your information and may be action. Generally speaking and for 85 percent the case is still very classy, nice, good looking and exclusive and I will not return it, it remains among the best one and I waited long enough, but for a maniac eye like mine, a few things should not escape your quality control at a company like Piel Frama, known for being the best in the world.
The exterior:
The exterior is made of two pieces of leather and both pieces are of different quality. The grain, feel, touch, shine and look of the front and the back are completely different and look like having been made in two different factories. The front is shiny and soft; the back is mat and less grainy and feels like carton.
The closing strap is again of another leather type and is completely flat, no grain at all, and is way too soft, when the case is open and the phone is in working position, the strap falls down in front of the screen and makes a part of the screen unreadable on top of being in the way and obstructing for some operations. I have to permanently move it upwards by hand to get out of the way. When the phone is slightly moved, the strap touches the screen and generates unwanted click actions on the touch screen.
The under part ( the magnetic side where the keyboard is) is about 4 mm too shot, and in closed position, the keyboard comes out of the case and is no longer covered or protected.
Last but not lest: the window on the front part, supposed to show the standby display is completely useless. The leather inside, between the keyboard and around the screen part is too thick, and the magnetic contact to switch on the display no longer works, the standby display never appears, leaving a window open on the soft key bars, witch is of no interest at all.
The inside
The small piece of transparent plastic window covering the 3 LEDs on the upper right part is way too large and miss-stitched, creating a big gap and a tension lifting up and ondulating the plastic but also the leather in the upper part of the frame, it does not look very good this wrinkled plastic and lifted leather….
Nearly all holes on the sides (those on the front are OK) are in the wrong place.
On the left side the hole for the USB connection is too small and the leather covers a part of the plug, the phone cannot be charged when in the case.
The hole for 3.5mm earplug jack is completely (80%) covered by leather and cannot be used at all.
On the right side the hole for the on/off switch is 50% covered by leather (hole made too high) and the button is nearly not accessible.
Last but not least, the square cut out for the display is made too much to the left, on the left part of the display about 2mm of metallic frame can be seen and on the right side the leather covers a part of the actual display.
I am sure that you agree that the above mentioned problems are not matching the Piel Frama quality standards (and the high price) and do not fit your “striving for the best” policy.
This is not a complaint, this is not a replacement request, neither is this a reason for me for no longer “loving” Piel Frama, I remain ‘a fan” and I am sure that I had bad luck (in Belgium we call it a Monday production) and that this is an exception ( on top of the X7500 being a very difficult device to make a case for), I do not want you to misunderstand my comments, they are only there to help you do better, improve and become the best. Please, if you think it helps, forward my comments to the concerned department and – maybe – adapt your design and manufacturing. If of any use to you I can also make and send you some pictures, illustration the problems.
I hope this mail will not offend you and be sure that my next phone will also have a Piel Frama cover case, you remain the best in the world.
Regards
LTxda

Regards
Wow and damn! I can't wait to read their response to this. Read the reviews by other members and see if they agree with all of your points. Keep in mind the cases are hand made so they'll be like those Cabbage Patch (sp?) dolls....unique. LOL

Hey Olivier Astel,
received my Case yesterday and it has exactly all the same errors as yours.
Sounds not realy "like Handmade"
Well, but it is still better than the Originall Case

I emailed to Angélica with the link because I ordered one today and I don't want the same problem with my case.

Yes. Basically, they've done the best they can do with their materials and the difficulties of covering the Ameo - I suspect that some of the changes we suggested might be feasible, but a lot of the alignment issues may well be part of the handmade nature of the case and the number of features on the Ameo body.
I've been using the case for a while, and I don't have the keyboard alignment issue (it is covered), but it does have to sit at an angle for the status display to work. It's a real shame; the case is really attractive and made of good materials; I think that you have to consider how you use your Ameo. If you don't rest it on tables and don't use the headset, this case is easily the nicest you'll find. If you want to use the headset, then the socket is blocket, and if you want to use it on a table, the popper catch makes it wobble.
I think these issues could be addressed, but if Piel Frama don't see a large enough market for the case, they probably won't be. And FWIW, the Piel Frama case IS a premium price cosmetic accessory - anyone who wants the thinner leather, the softer feel of the case, and the slim, attractive fit - as well as the colour/material choice, will overlook the functional glitches.
I'd much rather have to wiggle the Ameo about a bit inside the case to get to an infrequently-used port, than have the keyboard held in with a bit of stiff and warped plastic that makes typing almost impossible ;)

The only socket I cannot get to 100% is the headphone socket, I have no issues with the other sockets, the Mini USB and 4 in 1 cable slot are fine.
If my unit is in my pocket I am not too bothered about the display through the window, this is not a feature I will be using even though it works 90% of the time.
It is well made and offers a far higher degree of protection to the Ameo (which is the prime reason I wanted one, the T-Mobile case is cr*p in comparison) - Mike

I'm not comparing to the T-Mobile case, though - I also have a PDair case. Which offers unfettered access to the ports, a flat surface for typing, screen protection... but no magnetic attachment for the keyboard or status window (which given the thickness of PDair's case, almost certainly wouldn't work).
If the PDair case had magnetic keyboard attachment instead of that stupid clear-plastic "wallet" to slip it into, I'd consider it the most functional and practical one. Material and looks-wise, it's not a patch on the Piel Frama; by making the keyboard barely useable, it's only really an alternative to the T-Mobile case if you want "better Ameo protection, but infrequent/frustrating keyboard access".

very fine make, yes I see problems with the buttons/holes but mine are not that bad

And the RED will never get lost.

I receive:
Dear Haim,
Thanks for your email.
Before launching this model to the market, our design team and craftsmen worked really hard on the design of the case. They made some different models and designs of cases for this device.
However, once that we had the sample cases finished, we realised that they were not as good as we wanted. So that, they finally made this model which we have launched to the market and which after some tests was the most suitable case that we could make taking into account the difficulty that this device gives when making a case for it.
We have done our best to get the most accurate case for this device and we are sure that our customers will appreciate our effort.
Anyway, if you are not completely satisfied with the case when you get it and you want to send it back for a refund, there would be no problem in doing so. We would also understand your position.
If you want to do so, please, let me know and I will inform you on how to proceed.
Best regards and have a nice day!!

adding a note to my previous comments
the button flap does not fall down and cover my screen,
i also can hold it in practicly in any position and use the device,
and for those interested its exactly 29mm thick with the case and 22 mm without the case
so its not bad as far as the fit goes
the keyboard on mine snaps into place relatively easily as well
i also can clip on the laser pen that it came with... there is a slight gap that allows the pen clip to fit in.

Now all kidding aside...where did you buy the nifty ruler to measure the leather? ;-)
