Official Myfaves app extraction thread

I figured since the question wasn't being addressed i'd start a new thread about it. I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants this to be done but don't have the know-how. I'm currently working on a way to extract the myfaves application from the wing rom to be used on any hermes, wizard, or whatever else device you may be using on tmobile. Now one of the things i've learned is that the myfaves app doesn't show up if you don't have a myfaves plan. That kind of makes testing to see if it works kind of difficult. fortunately my girlfriend has a myfaves plan (i do not). She has my old 8125 and I have a cingular 8525 both on tmobile. so far i have dumped the wing rom that was posted in the other thread and gathered all of the files starting with 'my5','myfaves', and 'myfav' and placed them in the \windows folder. now there is a file called

'My5ControlPanelPlugin.cpl_'.

As some of you might know .cpl files are control panel files, so I removed the underscore and that created the control panel applet which didn't really activate the myfaves application either. there is another file that i tried to run called 'my5app.exe'. that file came up with an error that i was missing service files. so i ran the my5service.exe and that didn't work either. I know i must be missing a few .dll files or something probably not named my5 or myfaves. does anyone want to help? any rom chefs, or rom experts in general want to lend a helping hand?

I am a T-mobile customer that has the Softbank x01HT (Hermes200) as listed in my signature and they do not provide support or a file to put it on.

At least, if we can figure out how to create a cab (I have wince cab manager), we can then install/remove at our leisure.

I also have an 8525 as a backup phone so I can test any install of the myfaves app.

I tried putting a shortcut to the my5service in the startup and restarting (no luck there). I as well removed _ on he .cpl and clicked it (kept crashing).

Are we missing registry entries and/or one of the .xml files from \windows directory?

From the MyFaves zip file that is floating around here there are some files that are missing from it that the registry settings (see link above) reference.
If any of you Wing users, or those of you that have the device image, we need the following files to get one step closer :

I am not sure if people know about the other thread so I put the information in both.

I took the file, myFaves_PhCDefault.jpg, and made five copies of it and put the five copies (appropriately renamed according to the registry) in \Application Data\HTC\myfaves as is shown in the registry. I did not do the myFaves_BackgroundImage.jpg as I am not sure how big the file is supposed to be though (and actually am not sure about the contact_#.jpg's either):

\Application Data\HTC\myFaves\Contact_3.jpg

I put a shortcut to the My5Service.exe file in the \Windows\Startup folder and soft reset.

Even after all this, when I attempt to launch My5App.exe, I get the message:

The file 'My5App' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file.

I will try to google to find out about the missing jpgs when I get back from dinner.

I tried searching for the filename as listed via google but no luck on that front.

Someone whom has a myfaves phone could be so kind to post the 6 files in a zip file would be great and their folder locations. In addition, an export of HKCU and HKLM registry keys since I am guessing there is more than the my5 key in the HKLM section of the registry that we need. Lastly, is there a link to My5Service in the \windows\startup folder as well (I did already try that but who knows).

Also the contact#.jpg pictures are not actually missing I think, notice all the jpg's in the rom (mom, dad, sis, bro, bald guy, etc, etc) these are probably just renamed and copied to the folder, sure seems that way if you look at myFaves-plugin.bmp which I think is supposed to be like a screenshot.

Also I heard that if you change the "state" key of each contact that the app basically becomes a picture dialer, but don't quote me on that, I might have been drunk @ the time I heard that. Another thing is I'm guessing we probably need flash installed for this to work right?

oh this helped a million. i think i might have this working by the end of the week if i can get my friend's wing to study. hopefully all goes well.

i need someone with vanilla wing to tell me what services are running normally. and what other files and directories are in \program files or \application data

The one file that I haven't been able to get a hold of is SMSCservice.exe or something to that effect. I was trying to get this working a few days ago, but since I couldn't find this file I decided to postpone it until I stumbled upon this thread. Well anywho, will report back if I remember or see anything, in the mean time GODSPEED

So has this worked? I just unlocked my 8525 and put it on t-mobile But I want to make sure they will not turn around with a huge bill after using the myfaves.
