In some cases it would be very nice to turn on autoanswer after several rings. Corresponding setting is there in the phone settings, but it doesn't work.
What is the reason?

The reason is that "autoanswer will only work when wired head set is connected".

Or you can use the program from www.pocketzenphone.net (http://www.pocketzenphone.net) that can do what you want to do and more, with out connecting the wired head set.
