View Full Version : Jabra BT8010 - solution to display caller ID

Waiting that WM 6 resolve the problem, with the help of JETware we found a reasonable solution.
1 - Install Jetware v 1.30;
2 – From Settings – Connections – Bluetooth – Devices, delet the paring with Jabra BT8010
3 – Softreset your Advantage;
4 – On your Jabra BT8010 select Settings and Factory Reset;
5 – From your Advantage (connected to ActiveSync or GPRS) go to this link www.jetwaremobile.com/bthfx/Device/Nokia_HS-12W.jcf.
6 - When you download that file from your phone, you should get a prompt asking which paired Bluetooth device the settings should apply to: Choose Jabra BT8010 and Done;
7 – Turn your Jabra BT8010 on, and pair him again with the Advantage, and that’s all.
If you go thru this steps as I sayd, you shold see your Jabra display caller ID (of course if the caller is in your constact list in the Adavantage).

With this solution we have, at least, 2 problems:
1 - In the call list (on Jabra) it stores the name, not the number, so you can't dial using the calll ist;
2 - If you have another bluetoth device (ex: Parrot CK3100) in your car the caller ID in that device may not display.

Can't get this to work. Any one.......?

After step 7, don't forget:
- In Jabra BT8010 activate the show caller ID option (Settings - Display - Caller ID - ON).
- In JETware settings you should activate the Caller ID (Programs - Bluetooth Options - Hands-Free Config - Menu - Advanced Options).
I forget to mention: I have updated the Jabra software to V 1.33 (I'm not sure if this makes diference...)

Can you explain under what circumstance this fix is required? My Jabra BT8010 and Ameo worked perfectly straight out-of-the-box, caller ID and all.

We are looking at displaying of caller names (from your Ameo contacts) when a call comes, and not just the +1234..... thing :cool:

OK, I see. That would be cool. Good luck!

In the mean time I have used the Jabra Software to set up a phonebook on my earpiece. One thing I noticed though was that I had to omit the +xx part of the phone number otherwise the callerid would not find a match.

Hi beginner:
By default, the Jabra BT8010 doesn't show caller ID.
If you don't want to push the button every time you have an incoming call you must configure the Jabra like this:
(Settings - Display - Caller ID - ON).

Hey thanks dtread1 cool it works for me just great! Just wondering though i still have this weird problem that even though i have not selected the stereo option on after a while the bt8010 reverts to this; and all sound is routed through the ear piece. I check the BT settings on the phone and stereo is unchecked but appears to be over ridden by the bt8010. Dont suppose you have a solution for this?

In my case, when I do not wish all sounds (including TomTom voices) to be routed to the Jabra, I just go to
Settings
Connections
Bluetooth
Devices
select Jabra BT8010 and unpick the option “Wireless Stereo”.
After + - 5 seconds, all sounds came thru Advantage speakers except the phone and stays like that until I revert this configuration.

I'm afraid you misread the post. Jetware is at 1.30 (with a 1.31 beta). The Jabra BT8010 software is at 1.33. That's what he was talking about.

I followed the instructions from this thread, and although I got my Jabra BT8010 to display a name instead of the default calling number, I only can get it to display the LAST name of the caller. For example, when I call myself, the Athena shows "FONG, KEVIN", but the headset only shows "FONG". Since I have many FONG's in my contact list, this doesn't help. Anyone else experience this? Or have a solution?

Thanks.

I got Jetware nominally working, but also only got last name (like previous post) which limits its usefulness. Moreover, it seemed to mess up the buttons on the Jabra (switch to/from stereo, menu selection). Actually, loading my most common numbers (it will hold 30) into the Jabra's phonebook seems to be the best approach for now... Pretty easy using the Jabra CommandCenter software.

Well, I had decided to bail on Jetware. Then decided to give this one more try. My major issue seems to be that the audio gateway stays open ALL THE TIME. That is, I get no sound through the device when the Jabra 8010 is on. BTIO seems to have no effect. The buttons on the Jabra seem to have no effect--the displays can show the gateway is off, but it's still there!

Any suggestions?

Dear Visitor, We are sorry but the page you have requested is temporarily unavailable.

It doesn't matter if I use IE or Firefox. It seems I can't register. Does anyone have another way to register or get the 1.33 software?

This is really annoying. I own the product and have time on the weekends to install it, but can't get to their support (weekdays only) and can't get their website to work either.

As the first instructions caused some confusion, and some people couldn’t get Jabra to show caller ID, hear are them more complete.
Don’t forget that caller ID only “works” if the caller is in your contact list in the HTC X7500.
A problem still remains: Dialling from Call List in BT8010 doesn’t work

1 – Delete the paring between HTC X7500 and Jabra (if you have one).
2 - Upgrade the Jabra to V1.33 . (http://www.jetwaremobile.com/bthfx/Device/Nokia_HS-12W.jcf)
3 – Install Jetware V1.30 on your HTC X7500 ([url]http://www.jetwaremobile.com/)
4 – Soft reset Your HTC X7500
5 – On your HTC X7500, go to -> Start -> Programs -> Bluetooth Options -> Hands-Free Config ->
Menu -> Advanced options -> Ok. Here, at least, you must select /check this options:
.Phonebooks
.Messaging
.Caller ID
.Query status indicator
.Update status indicators
.Hang up/swap to incoming call
6 – Establish a new paring.
7 – On your Jabra settings select -> Display -> Caller ID and select -> ON
8 - From your Advantage (connected to ActiveSync or GPRS) go to this link (http://www.jetwaremobile.com/bthfx/Device/Nokia_HS-12W.jcf)
9 - When you download that file you should get a prompt asking which paired Bluetooth device the settings should apply to
Choose -> Jabra and -> Done.
10 – Soft reset your HTC X7500.
11 – Turn off your Jabra.
12 - Turn on your Jabra

Is the BT8010 really worth all the trouble? After successfully completing all the steps, I find that:
* The caller ID only displays the last name of the caller (a problem I have seen documented other places)
* It has a tendency to take over all sound, when it is on I don't hear the phone ring or alerts. I have tried various settings with Jetware and without. Seems a design problem (also documented elsewhere)
* It seems to consistently bounce back to A2DP mode, meaning I tap the button to voice-dial and it interprets it as a multi-media command. Given, turning the A2DP mode off is simple, one-key press. But still this is a nuisance... and another known problem! Even when using only one ear bob!

On the other hand:
* Range is great.
* Sound quality is excellent for Phone functions, noise reduction is very good.
* Sound is pretty good as a stereo headset, although not as good as my Moto S9s were before they stopped working. (Another story for another time.)
* Battery life is more than adequate.
* Comfort and stability are better than most.

But come on, folks. I paid over $100 for a BT headset and it doesn't really work quite right... even after paying for add-on software! That's pretty crappy, don't you think?

If anyone has REAL solutions to the problems above, I'd be glad to hear them. Otherwise, I still have another 10 days in the return period. It's going to be a close call.

Thanks for replying wgary... I really needed stereo for the music so I ended up buying the fugly BT8010 last night. I look like a damn fool :mad: walking around with 2 plastic pieces sticking out of my ears as if I had some sort of serious ear infection and needed really big absorbing plugs to stop the mucus from oozing out!!!! But there is no other good choices if one needs stereo and vibrate alert. Luckily, the cold season is here so I will be able to hide them with my hooded sweatshirts. I guess the dumb (Sony Ericsson/HBH-DS9800) and the dumber (Moto/S705) companies don't want our $$$ as they're too stupid to put a vibrate function into their stereo headsets.

* Range is great.

I have upgraded the firmware to ver 1.40.
The caller id only displays the last name (i have install the jetware 1.31) and it cannt display the Simplified Chinese after i have trasfered the langueage package to my bt8010.does anyone have the solution to the problems? it's important to me.
btw,if i transfer the vcard to the inner-phonebook of bt8010,the caller id displays correctly in simplified Chinese.

It's nothing special, open the second piece of the jabra headset, unsolder the two wires from the speaker and use the cable connecting it with a piece from another headset (mine is from a sonyericsson headset).

I realize this isn't entirely related, but I figured I'd ask since there are a lot of Jabra BT8010 owners reading this thread. How do you carry yours?

I noticed when I took a look at it that it doesn't have a hook for a lanyard (let alone come with one) - it only comes with a carrying case. I'd rather not go around wearing it the whole time (not too fond of looking like a Borg, thankyouverymuch). Personally, I'd love it if it came with a microSD lanyard so that you could plug it into that, but it doesn't.

My thoughts exactly. I own (among others) the BT8010 and BlueAnt Z9. I use both on and off ( I love the A2DP) but I keep going back mostly to the BlueAnt because they thought enough to put a clip on the back of it so that you can attach it to your shirt, pocket etc. I wish the other manufacturers would consider this minor addition. For me at least it makes a big difference. I'll use the BT8010 at work since I can leave it on my desk, but if I travel then I only take the Z9 since it's easier to carry. As Sogarth says I don't want to walk around with the thing in my ear all day.

My BT8010 came with firmware version 1.36 and last week I updated to 1.40.
However since the upgrade I feel the outgoing sound is worse and I've noticed that the headset doesn't connect to my phone in stereo mode automatically as it did with 1.36. I need to manually go into the bluetooth settings and tell it to set the headset as stereo. Considering these two issues I'd like to put my headset back to version 1.36. I don't see this version on the Jabra website and so far haven't been able to find it via web searches although I continue to look.
If anyone out there knows where I can find ver 1.36 I'd appreciate it if you would let me know.

Thanks

I think he just meant you should change your contact in Outlook: set the field "File as" or "Display as" (sorry, I use the French version: "Classer sous") to "Firstname Lastname" instead of "Lastname, Firstname" and the headset should display the whole name.

Hi again,

just one question - however I doubt that there is a solution ...

Before I set up my BT8010 like this, it was possible to only switch on the headset when the Mobile was already ringing. Then the number of the caller was shown in the display of the BT8010.

If I try this now, the headset just vibrates but doesn't show the caller ID.

unfortunately now the cyberon voice speed dial function doesn't work any longer. :( :confused:

If I press the dial button on the headset only the phone sceen appears but no voice dialing is possible.

Hi,

I do not give up ;-)

Now I've bought Voice Command 1.6 and it works pretty good. Beside the fact that it often doesn't understand my commands very well ...

But my current problem is as follows: I am using the BT Headset in my car and intend to switch it on only if a call comes in. This works very well however in this case the caller's name is not displayed. If I switch off the "Caller ID" Flag in the advanced options of Jetware the callers number is displayed at any time ...

Does anybody have a suggestion?

I noticed when I took a look at it that it doesn't have a hook for a lanyard (let alone come with one) - it only comes with a carrying case. Personally, I'd love it if it came with a microSD lanyard so that you could plug it into that, but it doesn't.

Just responding to myself as an update to folks. I've finally found an acceptable way to carry the BT8010! Well, at least the main unit. Gomadic sells exchangeable tips for their chargers here (http://www.gomadic.com/brand-jabra-accessories-jabra-bt8010-accessories.html). I took a pair of pliers to one of them and pulled out the microUSB part, which conveniently has a little metal hook on the far end. This means that I can plug it into my BT8010 main unit, put a keyring on the other end, and loop a lanyard around that. :D Pictures attached.

So I guess this, combined with a few of the other things pointed out in this thread, make the BT8010 do just about everything we want to:

Pick up a copy of the JETware Hands-Free Extension (http://www.jetwaremobile.com/install.htm) and follow the instructions earlier in the thread so that you can send names to your headset (since names >>> numbers!).
Since there seems to be some oddness with JETware sending only last names to the headset (when File As is set to "Last name, First name"), take advantage of Microsoft's support website to find out how to change all contacts' File As entries (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291144) (I can verify it worked great in Outlook 2k7).
With a Gomadic exchangeable tip (http://www.gomadic.com/brand-jabra-accessories-jabra-bt8010-accessories.html), make a lanyard that lets the BT8010 be carryable.
If you're using Microsoft Voice Command, although it's a "security risk", turning off the "Password Protected" checkbox means that you can use Voice Command even when the device is locked.
If you're using Microsoft Voice Command, making the voice louder via setting HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\VoiceCommand1\At tenuationCategory to 1. I wish it were a bit louder, though. :p
The only things left (at least for me) would be to verify the A2DP sound tweaks mentioned in this other Athena/BT8010 thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=303868). I can definitely confirm that turning off "Wireless Stereo" in the BT8010 Bluetooth profile is handy when you don't want everything sent to your headset!

Anything I forgot? :)

If only this really worked....

So, there's more information in this xda thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=258109). And I'm finding that pressing the headset button goes through a different path than pressing a hardware device button. Mucking around in that registry entry affects the hardware device button, but not the headset button. Any suggestions, anyone?

Hi Guys,
I have just bought the Jabra BT-8010. It comes with firmware version 1.36.
I have HTC Kaiser and installed on it the JetWare Mobile version 1.31. I have followed the instructions as described in:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310373&page=5
Except for stage 2 & 8 (I don't have nokia and firmware is already 1.36).
Configured my caller ID option on the Jabra headset (Settings - Display - Caller ID) -> ON.
Even changed the order of the 'File as' "Last name, First name" in outlook contact.
And I still can't see the caller name.

CAN any one SAVE me ?

Shouldn't JetWare do the work for me ? If I use the Jabra memory I can store only up to 30 contacts I believe.

Thought that JetWare should do the translation automatically. Without the need to feed contacts into the headset.

Hi Guys,

I have found how to solve the problem with the caller ID. So now it is working perfectly on my Kaiser.

It seems that it is crucial to perform step 8. Even though this is JetWare Config file for Nokia and NOT kaiser.

This however displays only the last name of the caller on the haedset.

To change your outlook contacts as a batch so that 'File as' will be chnaged from 'Last, First' -> 'First Last' follow the procedure given in previous emails or just follow the instructions in this link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291144

And enjoy - This is an Amazing headset with excellent sound qualiy and volume that actualy displays caller names ! (and you can also activate microsoft voice command from it) :).

I was trying to follow the instructions here but first wanted to just update the firmware because I didn't think I wanted to know names anyway (because some said that you would then be unable to dial from your headset).

So I downloaded v 1.40 from jabra's website and then I downloaded the bt8010 control center.

I followed all the instructions to update the firmware but for some reason, when I went to look for the DFU driver in the directory my entire computer shut down (blue screen). So I restarted everything and did it all over again, this time it went straight through and on the bottom of the control center it said, "headset in firmware upgrade mode" even though there was nothing on my actual headset's screen. I went ahead and clicked next, it went through and installed the firmware and then I clicked "finish" and it went back to the home screen of the control center and on the bottom it simply said, "connected to bt8010 headset."

I took out the headset from the usb cable and it wouldn't turn on, charged it...it still wouldn't turn on.

What can I do now? I am so frustrated because I've messed up my thinkpad t61 today as well and am having to hunt down a vista install disk to reboot it (I was simply trying to reformat everything for a fresh start and it just got stuck and now it won't let me go past the thinkvantage screen...but that's a nother story)

Please help, thanks!
