WM6 SIM/Radio Problem [solution use radio rom 2.19.21]

I have upgraded and downgraded many times, never with a failure. I just upgraded to PDAVIET 4.0003. Went without a hitch but now my phone will not stay on the network, also it will every few minutes complain that there is no sim card. Card is fine as tested in my other phones. The interesting part is it functions fine on any 2.2 ROM.
Tried Smart1's True's and all PDAVIET, no WM6 allows the phone to work.
Cold resets don't resolve the issue. Is there something that could have gotten corrupted that is part of the phone OS and not in the ROM's?
I am at a loss to troubleshoot this issue.

Since i have upgraded to PDAviet i have almost the same problem.
After soft-resetting my device no gsm connection is found.
The only solution is to go into phone option and start the manual search.
If it's connected it works without any problems.
Strange thing....I also tested a few gsm roms but always the same experience.

To reply to all of your suggestions. I have tried 5 different radio roms, none will see the phone network (GSM not GPRS) for more than a few seconds with a weak signal, then they fail and either go to flight mode or say that the SIM is missing. To reiterate, this was working fine up until yesterday with a few different WM6 ROM's. Coincidentally, the rear speaker failed at the same time. I resolved that issue, but the lack of phone service persists, although all AKU 2.2 ROM's work fine. Very curious....

It is CHAP, although I am referring to the phone service not wireless GPRS. My network is configured for auto, although if I switch to manual (due to the lack of consistent conntection), it will not be able to see any networks, except briefly and intermittently.

I have exactly the same problem !! it's not from radio ROM or OS !! I've tried 3 different version of radio ROM, and almost every single WM6 OS that is out there ! my phone stop responding yesterday after i changed my OS from PDAVIET 4.0.0.0.4 to SMART1.3 ! since then I've tried everything, but I can't get the phone to work in any WM6 OS! although WM5 (any version of it) is okay !

Yes , it used to work ! I've been using WM6 for more than 2 weeks with no problem! recently I upgrade my os to PDAVIET 4.0.0.0.4, but I decide to change the OS back to SMART 1.3, after I changed it back, i got the error "Unknown SIM card , without the pin you can call emergency calls only" I tried my pin and PUK , but none works ! So i changed the OS to WM5 again. I've tried couple of different version of WM5 (JESTER, NVID) and I've found the phone works perfectly in wm5 !! as I said before I tried re-flashing my Radio ROM, but it didn't help !! i still can't get my phone to work in WM6 ! any of Pocket PC gurus, have any suggestion ?

Hello people

Okay so here is the situation, since about last week I have been using PDAViet 4.0.0.3 on my Qtek S200

Now I love this ROM..so much so that I spoon with it at night...um...crap lol Its fast and lite...but something went terribly terribly wrong yesterday

So around 1pm I disconnect my phone from my computer, and notice a "X" in the data connection arrows...okay I thought nothing of it. I go to a restaurant, get a phone call from my brother, and talk, and everything is fine. From there it went bonkers...it kept on trying to connect a GSM signal, and then would go out to no service...it would keep on trying and trying, and bogging down my phone....

So finally i got it stablize (with an EDGE data signal i thought) and of course a voice signal and went on my merry 2 hour drive back home to Montreal.

When I got to Montreal and was waiting in the dead moving traffic jam, I wanted to check the Windies cricket score on BBC, so I take out my phone and try to make a data connection. But again the X showed...i rebooted my phone and signal about 10 or 20 times, and finally got something...however by the time that happend I had arrived at home so i went and used my computer.

The GSM signal stayed, but I dont know if I had a data connection. I then went to a funeral, turned off my radio entirely, and then when I turn it back on...ooooooooo no signal...it would get 2 bars, and then drop, and then 2 bars "E" symbol, and then drop.

So from then on, i went nuts, opened up the back, took out the battery, checked the sim, installed another sim to make sure..and by now it went even worse..first INVALID SIM...then it went to MISSING SIM...urge to kill rising!

I finally said F it, and hard resetted my phone...but i noticed something upon the screen calibration..."NOTIFICATION ERROR...cannot find calnot.exe". After hard resetting and such, the problem still showed...

This morning, after leaving it overnight, it was still misbehaving...so I went to took it back down to the floating NVID file found here on XDA developers...and oddly enough...no more calnot.exe error...the radio signal is strong, and i get a data connection...So i tried to then upgrade to the new PDAViet 4.0.0.4s ROM, but again...calnot.exe error...so finally i am stuck at the NVID ROM...oy!

So I searched here on XDA Developers and on google...now while people have said they get the calnot.exe error, they also get this reglog.dll (or something to that effect) error as well...me on the other hand am only getting that calnot.exe error, which would seem to be the root of my problem.

What can I do fix this, and get back to the speedy 4.0.0.3 ROM (man I love that ROM)

spl: 2.20.0000 (so I guess that my Qtek S200 is a G3 model)
radio: 02.47.21 (i even moved up to 02.69.21)
os: 2.20.7.34

Flash again the WM5 NoVid Rom,hard reset and if you come up with the same error,hard reset again... Tell me what happens... If it works flash PDAViet 4.0.0.0.3a...

In a way I am glad you are having the same problem...so I know I am not a nut lol (and nor am I alone)...but of course its not good to relish in someones downfall, so of course it is also a bad thing eh..

What ROM would you suggest then? NVID seems alright, but I don't know of any others out there (well somewhat)...thanks!

for wm5, if you want a clean, fast and reliable Rom, try Jesterz Rom

you might want to re flash the start-up image to HTC logo... you can find the .cap in the same thread.. I also updated the radio rom too, you can find it in prophet wiki.
Jesterz Rom is nice cause you don't have to uninstall anything, it's really clean and stable. it is by far better than NVID, but don't ask why cause i have to ramble a lot.
Oh by the way if you found out why this happened to us .. let me know :)

Okay, I spend another 2 hours to update the phone ! This time i didn't get the
Calnote.exe or replog error !! but my phone still doesn't work !
The phone connection is not stable ! it comes and goes ! and i get " Unknow SIM status. 3 attempts remaining. Only emergency calls can be made without a pin." well i tried different sim card , and i still get the same error !

I just Upgraded my phone to ASreg3.3.12, and LvsW Aku2.3 and still doesn't work !!
I get the same error ! the Phone App doesn't function! I get Unknown Sim Status! I've tried NVID, and Jesterz Roms , both AKU 2 and both work fine !!

well it depends to the rom that i update my phone to, but usually first it's 2.47.21! I also update the Radio ROM to 2.69.21 but I get the same error with 2.69.21 too ! I'm thinking maybe it's my usb ports ! because i was trying to print something yesterday, and surprisingly half the page was just garbage !! so now i'm up to changing windows!
it's not the sim card , because i tried another Sim Card (although from same service provider) but still the problem with phone persist ! also strangely somebody else has exactly the same problem ! I haven't changed IPL and SPL yet, they are

My phone is G4 and locked so i didn't dare to upgrade these !

I flashed my phone with PDAViet 4.0.0.4 2 weeks ago and it worked perfectly since today. But today I got this error "unknow sim status".
I love WM6 too much. I don't want to go back to WM5. Any ideas ?

And you know what I'm with Fido-Rogers as well. We are all of us with the carrier with the same problem. Maybe their sim card is not compatible with WM6 roms.

I don't think it's the 4Gb SD card, I've been using a 4Gb SD card for more than 3 month now with no problem.
It's not WM6 ! because ASreg3.3.12, and LvsW Aku2.3 are WM5, they just
use the same program to upload the OS to the phone!

Well I'm re-installing the windows ! and i will try another SIM card from another carrier, and Post the result ;)

He couldn't help a lot because it's not a cell from Fido.

I don't know any other GSM carriers in Montreal. Videotron is another GSM carrier but there are a reseller for Rogers.

I have the same problem, with viet's rom it happens sometimes, with the new b4 it happens all the time and only got it to work once. Tried my friends Rogers sim card works fine, tried my dad's pay as you go fido sim card works fine, it could very well be the sim card

Okay Weirdest thing happened !! I re-installed my windows and everything else, then I updated my phone to "Fantastic Mobiz v2.0b4" and guess what? I got the same error ! but this time I waited a little bit longer! after 5 min my phone connection became stable, and now I have no problem !!
every time i got Unknown Sim Status, Pin blabla, i just pressed cancel! after couple of times i got connected. I made couple of phone calls with no problem , the GPRS sign is there, and everything looks good !! :D Still when i reset the phone, i have to wait for like 5 min or so for phone connection to get stable!
well that was my 2 cents !

lol wow... i thought i was the only one with this problem!

i used "AKU3.3.13.ASERG-us" for a couple weeks then all of a sudden (after a soft reset) it would not detect my SIM card properly

it still happens now, and i'm using "Prophet_4.0.0.0.4S_PV"

the way i get around it is clicking cancel.... the phone will eventually discover that the SIM card is OK and connect to FIDO... as of right now... my phone is working fine (can receive incoming and outgoing calls as well as text messages)

funny thing is... the problem doesn't exist with AKU2.2 ROMs (like Jester's or even the PV_Temp)

Man I've been trying to solve this mystery for almost 3 weeks now !! I see that you went through the same things as I did! May ask when you bought your SIM card ?! cause right now we are thinking maybe we get this error because our SIM card are old! and apparently FIDO has a new SIM Card which might solve the problem.
It's not the Phone or anything else , it's FIDO, I'm almost positive! FIDO subscribers with WIZARD have the same problem !

So you mean that we can use a wm5 simkit in wm6 ?! and if we can , how can we extract it ?! is it part of the OS ? or if you have it can you post it for all of us ?
if you don't have it,and it's part of the OS, if you tell me how, I can downgrade to WM5 again and extract it and post it here to help other Fido subscribers as well as myself :)

Okay about the SIM thing...let me tell you the SIMs I have tested

1. Rogers AT&T SIM (which is my standard carrier in Canada..i don't use Fido, but anyways, Fido is Rogers now so whatever lol)
2. Vodaphone Australia
3. Singapore M1

All of those under PDAViet 4.0.0.0.3 failed...but when I went on my trips to Australia and Singapore in May there were used on a Mobiz 1.0 (or 1.1i) and they were fine...when I get back to Ottawa today I will do some more testing

I call them last month and the sales rep did tell me that they had 3G Sim card. (but it was from Fido not Rogers). I'm going to go to Fido store this morning to change my sim card and let you guys know whether it works or not.

edit: I spoke with a salesrep 30 minutes ago and he didn't know anything about 3G (or HSDPA). He didn't know the service is already in Montreal (and Toronto) from airport to downtown near Highway 20.
Downtown should be covered as well.

I'm using Fido sim. (kind of old fido sim card too).

No problem @ all using Radio V02.69.21 on PDAViet 4.0.0.0.1/2/3/3a/4/4s, but when i try Fantastic_b4, got same problem as u guys.

did try reflesh the rom, hard reset alot times, still the same.

then i try downgrade to Radio v02.19.21, BINGO!, full signal right on all the time.

it won't hurt to try.

What does Radio ROM do? What is the benefit of upgrade or downgrade?

I'm using Fido sim. (kind of old fido sim card too).

No problem @ all using Radio V02.69.21 on PDAViet 4.0.0.0.1/2/3/3a/4/4s, but when i try Fantastic_b4, got same problem as u guys.

did try reflesh the rom, hard reset alot times, still the same.

then i try downgrade to Radio v02.19.21, BINGO!, full signal right on all the time.

it won't hurt to try.

I call them last month and the sales rep did tell me that they had 3G Sim card. (but it was from Fido not Rogers). I'm going to go to Fido store this morning to change my sim card and let you guys know whether it works or not.

edit: I spoke with a salesrep 30 minutes ago and he didn't know anything about 3G (or HSDPA). He didn't know the service is already in Montreal (and Toronto) from airport to downtown near Highway 20.
Downtown should be covered as well.

so to double check here...the best method to apply the radio rom and custom rom is the following:

1. Go down to NVID, or temp
2. Apply custom ROM
3. Hard reset the device as per the instructions of the custom rom (in most cases that is)
4. Downgrade radio
5. Hard reset
6. Dance around naked...

well as far as I know, the radio rom is something separated from the OS, and since you are not changing the OS, you can apply the radio rom patch with no problem. that's what i did ...

Man I've been trying to solve this mystery for almost 3 weeks now !! I see that you went through the same things as I did! May ask when you bought your SIM card ?! cause right now we are thinking maybe we get this error because our SIM card are old! and apparently FIDO has a new SIM Card which might solve the problem.
It's not the Phone or anything else , it's FIDO, I'm almost positive! FIDO subscribers with WIZARD have the same problem !

i see that this thread has made progress and discovered that radio 2.19.21 works fine.... now i'm gonna go try downgrading to that version and hope for the best :)

My fido sim card is over 4 years old and this work for me.

just try it, should fix your problem right away.

And i found that V02.19.21's signal even better than V02.69.21(while it still working before.)

yes! it's working beautifully now!

right after a soft reset, the phone will detect the SIM card as expected and function properly!

great findings! v2.19.21 is the way to go if you are having similar problems! (though i'm not sure about the increased signal integrity...)

i think 2.19.21 or 2.69.21, one of them will be what u need. try it and let us know.

i found that when i using Fantastic Mobiz v2.0b4 only 2.19.21 work for me.
when i using Prophets v4.0.0.0.(x) both works for me.

Yes , downgrade your radio rom. So many other people from Canada have the same problem , and the answer is Radio ROM 2.19.21.
Try it and see it for yourself. for Radio ROM downgrade you don't have to go back to WM5 , just downgreade the radio rom and hard reset.

I didn't get any of the SIM or calnot etc errors, but I lose signal in weak areas. I even replaced my SIM card thinking that it was defective. (It was a 5 min job at the provider here, and free ;))

Yesterday, I tried 2.69.21 and 2.61.21... I think both are worse off than the 2.47.21 that came with the PDAviet ROM (4.0.0.0.4) I'm using.

Before, with 2.47.21, I had full strength in my office. Immediately after flashing to 2.69.21, I lost 2 bars. The litmus test was when I returned home. I lost signal the moment I stepped into my house. Outside, I could get 1, sometimes 2 bars.

So, I flashed to 2.61.21 last night. Same problem. I forgot to download 2.19.21, so I couldn't flash to that yet. But I tried flashing to 2.47.11 that I downloaded a long time ago. Same problem.

I'll flash to 2.19.21 as suggested and try again...

Yes you do need a Hard Reset.
I tried soft reset after the radio ROM downgrade and it just didn't work .. I believe you have to hard reset.

If a hard reset is needed, then pls disregard my previous post as I only did a soft-reset after each radio flash.

I thought a soft reset would suffice because the updated radio version is listed in the splash screen after the soft reset, and also in device information...

Ok, I flashed to 2.19.21 but only noticed a slight improvement. Previously I had no signal at all, now I sometimes get 1 bar intermittently.. not enough to establish a connection.

Perhaps my problem is different. I'll try the other radio roms to see if it helps. I'm thinking could this be somehow related to the OS? Itching to downgrade to WM5 to see if that has any effect.

dude that sounds pretty bad ! :) well i upgrade my radio rom from 2.19 to 2.21 and my phone works perfectly .. i don't see any reason to upgrade to higher version

Officel Prophat Radios higher then 2.21 is 2.37 and 2.58 ... if some body found them ... it work better then the 2.69 roms ak wizard modded radios.

bro.. b4 upgrade to wm6, i never had problem with network.. im not notice what radio rom my dopod use that time. if only i can get that rom back, i wont really care if i had to use wm5. my network is more important to me then the latest rom.

I'm currently using Gullum's V5 ROM and Radio 2.69.21. Unfortunately, still the same prob.

I'll try Pdaviet's 06 and 2.19.21 or 2.20.21 as hma suggested..

I cannot connect to GSM network at all and to data connection (GPRS). After I flashed ROM to 4.0.0.6 and radio ROM to v2.9.21 (and with these settings should works fine) I have no any connections. Moreover, when I downgraded to Jasper ROM version problem stil occurs. I do not know what to do more, my s200 is useless, because i have no network GSM and GPRS.
I noticed one thing: when I choose to find network manually and select my provider I CAN connect to my network. But without data connection. Any suggestions?

I'm running 4.0.0.0.6 PV-touch with radio version 2.47.21. The phone itself works pretty well as far as dialling out is concerned.

However, I'm finding that people try and call me but my phone won't ring - it's as if I'm off the network. Also, there is no notification of any voicemail messages until usually a day or two (or more) after the message has been left.

I'm using AT&T/Cingular for my phone service.

When I was previously running WM5 and radio version 2.19.x.x, I didn't have these issues.

I'm at work now and can't really start a bunch of radio firmware upgrades; however the obvious thing to me seems to be downgrading my radio rom to 2.19.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

Guys my problem is a bit similar. The problem stems from Flight Mode. Every time i turn off my Network using the communication manager while getting on to a flight and try to turn it on once i land it just refuses to work. It keeps on searching for a network.

I have to then remove the sim card and put it in a 3310 and it works instantly showing full network. Once i do this and put the sim card back into my prophet the network starts working again.

I tried using other providers sim cards for the same thing above and they worked properly. My sim card is an old simcard say 5 yrs old and its a 16k sim card..Any suggestions?

Service provider is BPL mobile in India
ROM is Mysterious 1.0
Radio is 2.47.21

I had the exact same problem when I was first upgrading to WM6 ROMs. I tried every RadioROM I could find, and a few different WM6 ROMS. I finally gave up and went back to the latest official WM5 WWE ROM.

I haven't seen anyone posting on this problem in a while, so I've started a new thread under Prophet Mobile 6 to see if the problem has been solved. Hopefully someone will reply.

If you've managed to lick the problem, let me know.

PIM.vol caused my problem!

To move my phonebook from WM5 to WM6 i kept copying the pim.vol file to replace the empty one! I just noticed after replacing it the phone function stops working entirely just as described here. Switch it back to the default WM6 pim.vol file and it works fine again, change back the the WM5 one and it stops working, switch back to WM6 default pim.vol and it works again. So this was the cause for my problems, not Radio ROMs. Anyone else with this problem happen to be copying their contacts?
