How to upgrade from WM5 TO WM6

To upgrade your prophet to WM6 I recommend that you first of all downgrade to the NVID version of WM5 AKU2.2 and get the latest Active Sync:


1. Download the NVID(no vendor) AKU2.2 rom for WM5 here :http://rapidshare.com/files/17208693/RUU_Prophet_220734_2207114_024721_NVID.exe YOU CAN USE Step1 of PdaMobiz or PDAViet Temp INSTEAD OF NVID(no vendor) AKU2.2 ROM...
2. After it has been downloaded get the latest Active Sync from Microsoft.com
3. Install active sync, you might need to reboot
4. When your computer has rebooted, run the file from step No 1 . Follow the steps, remember that it can take some time and seem to stuck at 80% and higher, but just wait.
5. When you have done this, your pda will reboot. After it comes with the welcome to windows mobile screen,"Tap Here To Begin",JUST LEAVE IT. In fact don't touch your device before the next steps are finished.
6. Now download one of the WM6 versions( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1279985&postcount=1 )
7. Now find a file named Upgrade.bat,and run it.(you don't have to run Step1 of PdaMobiz or PDAViet Temp,as you have already downgraded to AKU2.2)
8. Wait until the upgrade finishes(usually takes 12-15minutes)..WAIT WAIT WAIT
9. A message will be displayed in the dos box,and it will say that the upgrade is finished etc....etc...,now you HAVE to HARD RESET,to finish the upgrade and enjoy you new WM6!

The downgrade process from WM6 to WM5 is pretty simple. All you have to do is to downgrade to WM5 NVID and after that upgrade to the WM5 you want:

NOTICE
If you use a different AKU 2.2 ROM(like PDAViet Temp),you may have two EXEs in the folder you extracted.Be careful and use the one that is made for your device:
FILENAME G3.EXE
is for G3 devices:IPL x.xx.0000, SPL x.xx.000.0 (this is shown when you reset)

FILENAME G4.EXE
is for G4 devices:IPL x.xx.0001, SPL x.xx.000.1 (this is shown when you reset)


RECOVERING FROM ERROR IN STEP 8 WM5->WM6
1. Don't panic
2. Don't panic
3. Unplug the phone
4. Reset with stylus,and keep the Camera Button pressed.
5. A 3 color screen will appear(Bootloader Screen)
6. Connect your device with your PC,and run the NVID(no vendor) WM5 rom.
7. The device will be resetted after RUU(rom update utility)finishes
8. Repeat the WM6 upgrade,from STEP 5..


How to switch or upgrade/downgrade between WM6 versions(for example PDAViet->Trueneytral)
1. First you have to downgrade to WM5 AKU2.2 using the WM6->WM5 guide(some say that you don't have to do that,but i believe that it's better to downgrade first rather than making a simple overwrite)
2. Now follow STEP 5 of the WM5->WM6 guide


Device doesn't connect to PC after flash
If your device doesn't connect to your PC after flash,just enter bootloader(press camera button+while pressing soft reset and hold,until a tri-color screen shows up),and flash the NoVendor WM5 Rom: http://rapidshare.com/files/17208693/RUU_Prophet_220734_2207114_024721_NVID.exe .Then repeat the whole process...

I need to downgrade to WM5, 'couse I cannot boot anymore. After running the setup I get an error that the device cannot be found. I have connected the S200 with the boot loader running.

Edit: Now it works on an "old" WinXP machine.

No matter what I do to try to fix this, IE: restart device, power down by removing battery, try to run the RUU again, nothing helps. Its is really stuck and I really need this cell phone.

I followed the instructions carefully, and my phone (Qtek S200) seemed to boot with WM6.0

However, after aligning screen, it tried to initialize the phone with some extended roms, a procedure which failed, and I had to soft reset.

After reboot, it seems to work fine.

Is it? :confused:

EDIT: Another thing I noticed is that keyboard is in THAI !!! How can I make US the default? Olso, I have Resco keyboard GR edition. Will this work with WM6?

i don't know mate.i believe you can use pdaviet's temp instead of aku2.2 nvid...

Another thing I noticed, is that it looses pairing with my bt handsfree...

I am making the pairing, and works fine. However, when at night I am shutting off my hf in order to save battery, the next morning the pairing is gone.

Any solution to this?

You've forgot to do a hard reset after flashing, please read one of the flashing guides.

Absolutely! I have tryied with all the different WM6's on this WIKI. All work fine, although the SMART1 is the fastest. It has been tweaked for speed with standard appearance.
The others also work fine - but have (in my opinion) some good/great looks and extra features.
Remember to follow the intructions for upgrade!

mentioned many times in this forum. you probably have not done enough hard resets between the 2 steps.

Do this: copy the 2 cab files: Cert_SPCS.cab & EnableRapi.cab in the folder of 2nd step into the PPC, and run them individually; then repeat Step 2.

If you have followed exactly all the steps in the wiki, (sticky message at the top of the forum), and do not touch the screen after step 1 (even though you are asked by the screen to tap screen to set up), and have done Hard Resets, you should not run into this problem.

I have downgraded from WM6 to WM5 using 17208693...24721_NVID.exe. But I am having trouble to flash it to RUU_Prophet_2151327_21513121_021921_DOP_ASIA_WWE_S hip. Can anyone advise how can I flash it to the original ROM.

That depends on what version of IPL and SPL you have. If you have followed this forum threads, you might have upgraded to IPL 2.20 and SPL 2.20, then you cannot go back to the Asia ROM of 2.15. But if you did not touch the IPL/SPL, (check when booting, see the words on the left upper corners), you should be able to do so. If not too successful, try PDAViet Temp step 1 and subsequent try the Asia ROM.

My current SPL and OS for my WM5 is as follows...
SPL 2.20.000
OS 2.20.7.34

My current problem with this ROM is that when the battery at <40%, the unit tends to soft reset and can't boot up until there is an external power supply/charging state is applied. Anyway to overcome this?

Cludyfa, what a great job you've done! Thanks by tons! I just want to share my experience with a problem I did not find in the forum.

* Problem: I was receiving the message "Cannot Execute the Specified Program" when running the upgrade_rom.bat file in step2 of the process of upgrading to WM6 PDAViet 4.0.0.0.6 Touch. :(

* Solution: I copied the source installation folder to the root directory of my hard drive and ran the upgrade_rom.bat file as instructed. It worked fine! :D

* Apparent cause: I had the folder under a long path name and MS-DOS has problems to handle that. A shorter and simpler path name solved the problem.

:D You are REAL joker man! Of course you should try WM5 first, because otherwise, you wouldn´t be glad that you can use beautiful WM6! It is like windows 98 against windows XP;)
OK, so you don´t have to try WM5, but because there is a lot of Wm6 versions around and every single one is a bit different and works differently also on devices which are the same, it is better to use WM5 for a let´s say month - to be sure how it works, what is the normal battery drainage and so. Than you may switch to WM6 and enjoy touchFLO and other cool things and see if this WM6 ROM you´ve flashed is working properly.
I know, it is a waste of time, so try PDAVIET 4.0.0.0.6 - Touch straight and maybe U will not notice any problems (most of the users of this ROM have no problems, just a few have extreme battery drain - I am unfortunately one of them:mad: ) So give it a try. WM6 Roms are nicer, quicker and more powerful than WM5. Thats all. It is a madness to flash WM5, if U won´t have problems with battery on WM6. Bye

I also have problem flashing because I guess I am using vista. It gives error 260. Unable to connect to PDA after the bootscreen shows up. Is it possible to flash using windows vista at all? or do I have to look for an XP PC??

Its my second time changing roms so I consider myself a rookie at this. With these instructions I had no issues. I almost disconnected thinking it was done but as you noted. WAIT!WAIT! WAIT!. To do a Hard Reset, there is a tricky point here: You have to wait approximately 4 seconds before you should press the Green Key. If you press too early, nothing will happen even if you left the phone idle for hours. I normally count to 5 before I press the Green key, and you will notice that it immediately responds by reporting the format completed. That is why you got it after 3 hours idle.

The reason why it hangs at the initial screen could be that you have mistakenly done some steps wrong at the start. Follow the instructions very very carefully by reading every words, and you'll be successful. And don't add your own steps, even though you firmly believe that there is nothing wrong. Remove your memory card being doing anything also counts.

I have pumped into exactly what you have been in the last 3 months for a dozen times.

This happened with two WM6 ROMS: PDAVIet v4..0.0.6 & Fantastic Mobiz

That sounds as if you don't press comm and camm button together, but only the camm button. This is how it is done:

Press Comm and Camm button at the same time and hold them pressed. Push the stylus in the resethole at the bottom. Release stylus. A white textmessage appears on a black screen, instructing you to press the green receive button. Release C&C buttons, press the green receive button. An extra text is displayed telling you that there is some formatting hes been done.

Finished.... continue the setup of your device to your own liking!

I am in your same shoes, I have a Spanish rom and cannot find or get AKU 2.2 WM 5. Try installing the original rom or look for one in WIKI. That is what I did and at least it works.

Hi, I'm new to these upgrade things. I think I can manage the manual but I just wanna make sure my pda is ready for this upgrade. I see people talk about G3 or G4 but I don't know what that is. My machine is a Qtek S200, ROM Version 2.9.7.24 WWE, ROM Date 02/09/06, Radio version 02.07.20, Protocol version 413.1.03, extROM version 2.9.7.9431.

One advice, take your time and read "around" on tis forum, there is a lot written about this kind of essentials. Not always structured an easy to find, but again, take your time and prepare yourself... GOOD LUCK!...

Method 1:

Press Camm & Comm button simultaniously. Keep them pressed.
Punch the little hole at the bottom with the stylus for a second or two.
Release the stylus (keep the buttons pressed!)
A withe text-message appears on a black screen, telling you to press the receive button
While keeping the C&C buttons, press the green receive button.
Then release the two C&C buttons, but keep the Receive button pressed.
The message on the screen tells you some more about formatting.
Release every button, you are done!
Start to set and arrange your device, it is as innocent as a virgin... (If she is "untouched" depends of the ROM of your choice...:rolleyes: )

Method 2:
Open "Today => Settings => Clear Storage"
Enter "1234" as instructed
Hit "YES" in the bottom-bar
Done, start to deflower your honey!


PS I gave this post a clear title, in the future it should be easy to find with a search.

Some good advice: DON'T use any backup tool to import your WM5 contacts to WM6. There can be a difference in the file location. This will give you trouble sooner or later. Only use the backup utilities with one and the same ROM.

Trying to upgrade to wm6 but ahve had quite a few compatability issues.
Did the :

Then as per the instructions i downloaded one of the updates and there is the rub:

Prophet_4.0.0.0.4_PV.zip,gives these errors(in the dos window)
1. Sleep4 is not recognised as an internal or external command
2. Pdel.exe is not recognised as an internal or external command
3. CeCopy is not recognised as an internal or external command
4. CrossBows OsRoms Sleep4 is not recognised as an internal or external command

I,ve tried several that i could download and all give the same result.
Am i'm trying to update with the wrong software or what?

I've been trying to upgrade my Imate Jamin to WM6 but the upgrade DOS window gives and error and doesn't update.

the Imate (original firmware, G4) is connected to active sync as a guest OK.

I tried to do a hard reset by following the guide on this forum but it won't work, can it be because I've removed the camera (due to work not allowing cameras on site). I would have thought the camera button should do the same job!

Hi,

I had an error message, when I was upgrading my Prophet from WM5 to WM6. Everything went fine till, it started. :)

When the Prophet started there was an error message, Init_tray was not signed or something like this...
After this, when I wanted to sync with the pc there was a problem:
There is not enough free memory on your device to sync information. Close programs...
Error code: 8007000e
What is the matter? Did I make a serious mistake?

All the problems you describe are pointing out that you didn't perform a proper Hard Reset after the WM6 flash. Please read the many, many postings AND wiki's about this subject. It is a very essential step in this upgrade proces.

I've found my solution. When you hard reset after the upgrade is done, wait about 3 to 5 seconds then press the send key (make call). It worked with me, after some deep research....(someone in this forum said that he/she wold count to 5 before pressing "send".).
So, i hope this will help you.

another "so called problem" is that some of the apps don't work in theprograms menu.
E.G., if you go to PROGRAMS/TOOLS, almost ALL of the apps don´t work. I select "Device Manager" appears the following message:
"The file 'devmgmt' cannot be opened.Either it is not signed with a trust certificat or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file.".

What do you think about this one?

You better give some objective details, we are here to help you with technical problems, not to give psychological aid.

So, back to things that do matter: flashing your device is a delicate process, many things can go wrong for obscure reasons, don't get too upset but just repeat the whole exercise. Make sure your PC and Prophet are not used for anything else. Quit Messenger etcetera and leave things to theirselves. SUCCES!

Then installed Gullum's ProphetTouch IX ROM - all went smooth except for I was unable to open the contacts. As explained here, it was a matter of a wrong performed hard reset, so I flashed the device again, re-installed the ROM and did a correct hard reset (pressed the call button at the question screen). I got a message of "format is completed" and then got stuck at Qtek "Keep the world in one" screen. it just doesn't move any further from there.

Here's what it shows at the screen:

IPL 2.15.0001
SPL 2.20.0001
GSM 02.47.21
OS 9.0.0.0

The question is: how to re-flash it again? When I enter the tri-color boot screen, I'm unable to connect it to the ActiveSync as it does not recognize the device (just because it must be switched on). What to do now?

4. When your computer has rebooted, run the file from step No 1 . Follow the steps, remember that it can take some time and seem to stuck at 80% and higher, but just wait.

Sorry but in which state should the device be?
Should it be in bootloader mode? Or just connected via Activesync and standing by? Additionally, should I make some settings to Activesync, such as untick "allow usb connections" etc?

Is shouldn't matter, just follow the widespread instructions. Make sure you first flash your device with a NoVendorID WM5 ROM. There are circulating a few on the site (NVID). This brings your device in a predictable state, from there flash the WM6 Rom of your choice! Succes!!

the only problem faced, which i think most people have it, is bluetooth and the wlan. can't seems to enable them sometimes. i've looked thru the forum, some said that is a hardware prob, hence, nothing can be done. but i personally think that it isn't, coz they can be enabled sometimes. let's hope a fix can be found. sounds like a dreadful disease waiting to be eliminated.

DISable "Alllow USB connection" in the ActiveSync connerction-settings box, and then connect your device with your PC. NOw it connects directly as USBdevice, and you can run the RUU (again).

Or you can do a soft reset with the camera button pressed, and when the device shows the 3 color screen you can reconnect again via usb and start over all the process.

First tip: READ BEFORE YOU WRITE! This question is asked AND answered over as thousand times on this forum. It is pretty easy to use the search-option first. That way this forum threads are staying a bit more readable (as the are cluthered already).

But the answer to your question: make a proper Hard Reset, as you should always do after upgrading your OS.

tells me that my microfon level is to low e.g. they can't here me well.

Should use PDAViet instead. It's very clear for G3 or G4 version.

But I got a problem: when I finished Step 1, PC didnt recornize the Neo. Normaly, Start/Settings/Connection, tab USB to PC, uncheck Advanced Function box and ActiveSync will recornize again. But now, in Connection tab, there's no icon USB To PC, so I cant uncheck that "Advanced Function" (it's funny, not Advanced at all, only make trouble to user).
Any one have a solution for this?

When I try to run ....024721_NVID.exe, although my device is syncronized with activesync, it keeps me showing an error (224:connection error).
I've rebooted both my pc and prophet and i can't get it to work.
Can anyone explain to me what am i doing wrong...?

Another question, Should I use PDAViet_Temp to do the downgrade or the 24721_NVID.exe?
Then i just need to choose the WM6 Rom i want, right?

I have also followed the hard reset instructions (required after the last flash) to the letter and it doesn't seem to help. I am stuck at the bootloader screen.

Although I can revert to the WM5 I would like to have the WM6.1...

Could it be a problem that I have not hardSPL-ed the device?

You have not HardSPLed your device... You have a G4 device, so you need to use the G4 HardSPL files.

TBH, the information is a bit confusing...

What HardSPL does, is circumvent the CID checks, so in effect your device becomes CID unlocked. That lets you flash other ROMs.

Nobody (almost nobody, that is...:D) is plain stupid. I guess your flash-adventure has started just recently and you don't have any experience with "the old way".

the difference between Old and New is not only the procedure, but the whole technique. You can't choose, it is the way the ROM is build that determines how to flash. So, you just picked the wrong method (if you persist on using the Old Method, you can modify the ROM you chose, but that requires some understanding).

I think it is save to say that all recent and future ROMs will aquire the new flashing technique. So, my advise to all starters: forget about the fact that we once flashed in a different way, unless you want to try one of the earlier ROMs out of curiousity. Those predecesters are not as stable as the new ones, so there is no logical reason to flash them.

The most important condition to the new method (RUU) is bypassing the CID check.
That can be achieved by manipulating the SPL of your device. If you are planning on flashing only once in a while, you can use SoftSPL or JumpSPL.
That software will bypass the SPL, and you will flash into the blind while your device is showing a nervebreaking white screen. But your SPL will stay untouched.

Or, when you think you will flash your device more frequently, you can use HardSPL. You have to flash your Prophet with a special RUU using the white-screen method of SoftSPL. This flash will only alter your SPL. With this altered SPL it is possible to flash any other RUU based ROM straight away.

If you need the normal SPL back again, flash an official ROM, those RUU packages are complete with SPL, Splahscreen and RadioROM beside the OS-part.

What are the IPL/SPL? Is there any form of ROM installed? Do you get errors with an RUU?

That has a G4 SPL on a G3 device, which is not good, and I doubt you'll be able to get it back...

PIN may be SIM or device. If it's on the device, you won't get it after a reset.

Any contacts you had on device will have been wiped, and the same goes for any network connections. Basically, any data gets wiped when you flash a new ROM.

What ROM did you flash?

Problem found, the WM5->WM6 was done in 1minute instruction say 13-15min!?!?!
Now I got HTC innovation screen and nothing happens!
As I sad the hard reset was not done cause Comm Menager button do not work!

or you will get stuck in boot mode.


make it sure which kind of device that you have.

G3 or G4.

Your SPL Information should be 2.G3.4PDA for G3 Device or 2.G4.4PDA for G4 Device, in order to try new ROM

FILENAME G3.EXE
is for G3 devices:IPL x.xx.0000, SPL x.xx.000.0 (this is shown when you reset)

FILENAME G4.EXE
is for G4 devices:IPL x.xx.0001, SPL x.xx.000.1 (this is shown when you reset)


RECOVERING FROM ERROR IN STEP 8 WM5->WM6
1. Don't panic
2. Don't panic
3. Unplug the phone
4. Reset with stylus,and keep the Camera Button pressed.
5. A 3 color screen will appear(Bootloader Screen)
6. Connect your device with your PC,and run the NVID(no vendor) WM5 rom.
7. The device will be resetted after RUU(rom update utility)finishes
8. Repeat the WM6 upgrade,from STEP 5..


How to switch or upgrade/downgrade between WM6 versions(for example PDAViet->Trueneytral)
1. First you have to downgrade to WM5 AKU2.2 using the WM6->WM5 guide(some say that you don't have to do that,but i believe that it's better to downgrade first rather than making a simple overwrite)
2. Now follow STEP 5 of the WM5->WM6 guide


Device doesn't connect to PC after flash
If your device doesn't connect to your PC after flash,just enter bootloader(press camera button+while pressing soft reset and hold,until a tri-color screen shows up),and flash the NoVendor WM5 Rom: http://rapidshare.com/files/17208693/RUU_Prophet_220734_2207114_024721_NVID.exe .Then repeat the whole process...

1. Download the NVID(no vendor) AKU 2.2 rom for WM5 here :http://rapidshare.com/files/17208693/RUU_Prophet_220734_2207114_024721_NVID.exeYOU CAN USE Step1 of PdaMobiz or PDAViet Temp INSTEAD OF NVID(no vendor) AKU2.2 ROM...
2. After it has been downloaded get the latest Active Sync from Microsoft.com.. Simply search for "Active Sync"
3. Install active sync, you might need to reboot
4. When your PC is ready run the NVID file you downloaded in step1 and follow the guide, remember that it can take some time and seem to stuck at 80% and higher, but just wait
5. When its done downgrading to the NVID WM5 rom, you prophet will reset and you can upgrade to the version of WM5 you want.

NOTICE
If you use a different AKU 2.2 ROM(like PDAViet Temp),you may have two EXEs in the folder you extracted.Be careful and use the one that is made for your device:
FILENAME G3.EXE
is for G3 devices:IPL x.xx.0000, SPL x.xx.000.0 (this is shown when you reset)

FILENAME G4.EXE
is for G4 devices:IPL x.xx.0001, SPL x.xx.000.1 (this is shown when you reset)


RECOVERING FROM ERROR IN STEP 8 WM5->WM6
1. Don't panic
2. Don't panic
3. Unplug the phone
4. Reset with stylus,and keep the Camera Button pressed.
5. A 3 color screen will appear(Bootloader Screen)
6. Connect your device with your PC,and run the NVID(no vendor) WM5 rom.
7. The device will be resetted after RUU(rom update utility)finishes
8. Repeat the WM6 upgrade,from STEP 5..


How to switch or upgrade/downgrade between WM6 versions(for example PDAViet->Trueneytral)
1. First you have to downgrade to WM5 AKU2.2 using the WM6->WM5 guide(some say that you don't have to do that,but i believe that it's better to downgrade first rather than making a simple overwrite)
2. Now follow STEP 5 of the WM5->WM6 guide


Device doesn't connect to PC after flash
If your device doesn't connect to your PC after flash,just enter bootloader(press camera button+while pressing soft reset and hold,until a tri-color screen shows up),and flash the NoVendor WM5 Rom: http://rapidshare.com/files/17208693/RUU_Prophet_220734_2207114_024721_NVID.exe .Then repeat the whole process...

here s what has happened to me i first did all those steps to upgrade my imate jamin to wm6 and it worked then i downgraded it again and now i want to upgrade it back so i clicked that upgrade.bat and my pc got stuck so i reboted the machin and upgraded again and now my phone doesnt move further than the screen after the qtec blue sky what can i do pls help me soon :confused::confused:

I flashed all Prophet rom in XDA and I have a question: after Hard SPL - my O2 Neo G4 stilll appears IPL & SPL = *.001 ( it doesn't change to *.4PDA as the guide said ).

Is my O2 Neo a limited edition or something else like that ?

you sure you are done with the HardSPL?? coz if this is successfull your SPL should look like 2.G4.4PDA...
