I'm not a pro on this technology, so my apologies in advance if this isn't worded correctly....
I recently purchased a TyTN from Expansys to use on the Softbank network in Japan (as well as overseas without a SIM lock). I got a Softbank SIM card yesterday, and the phone function works fine, but I've had no luck connecting to the 3G network here.
I spent a couple of hours at the Softbank shop trying to work it out, and comparing the settings on my TyTN with their X01HT, but after entering the same configuration, there was still no connection. The guys at Softbank reckon its simply not possible to connect with a non-Softbank Hermes. Before I give up, and try to send back my TyTN for a refund, I thought I'd check with the experts....is this really impossible?
FWIW, here are the settings and the result.
1. Start > Settings > Connections > My ISP > Add a new modem connection
2. Enter a name for the connection: Softbank 3G
3. Select a modem: Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G) (This is "packet tsushin"
on the Softbank X01HT, but I assume these are the same thing. Is that
correct?)
4. Access point name: open.softbank.ne.jp (Same as the setting on the
Softbank X01HT)
5. User name: opensoft (Same as the setting on the Softbank X01HT)
6. Password: (when I entered the user name, this was entered
automatically and has the same number of characters as the password on
the Softbank X01HT, so I assume this is correct)
7. I have left the advanced settings as they are, which is the same as
the Softbank X01HT
When I try to connect I get the following message.
Cannot Connect
Dialed: open.softbank.ne.jp
The answering modem has disconnected.
To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
