Actually there has been UMTS in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area, for those not in the know) for over six months now, but it was officially in "test" mode for most of that time. Hopefully now that it is "on the map" (pun intended) it means they have worked out all the bugs. When I was last in Toronto (about three months ago), I had to change my voice band to "GSM" because I couldn't make or receive any calls.

^^^^ That is odd that you would experience that. I have had the Hermes since last year and I have been using it as my ONLY internet access point.
As in, I canceled my High-Speed Rogers account and have been using Fido's unlimited data through tethering. Not only it works great, but I have been able to use the phone while tethering for almost 4 months now. Odd.
PS:. UMTS was technically released in November of last year. So about 8 months ago now. However it was all open beta and they knew, hence why the only HSDPA items sold were the aircards. You know, good PR to tell people but still pretty useless for the average consumer.
