Hi,
This TV tuner works on Windows Mobile devices through a SD card:
http://www.eopstech.com/eops/pro3.html
Does anybody know if there is something similar for our Athenas ?
An option could be trying this device using:
HTC Athena + 4 in 1 cable + SD reader + SDIO TV tuner .......
This should work, right ?
Thanks and regards,
Alberto

That wont work.
It uses SDIO, that is not supported in card readers. I dont know if the miniSD slot has SDIO ability either. You would have to get some kind of cable with miniSD to SDsocket. Not a nice solution.

Not very future proof either. Analogue TV is as good as dead in most parts of this world. I'd rather see someone writing a WM5 or 6 driver for one of those DVB-T USB sticks ;-D Now that would be cool !

Sling Mobile player works great on the Advantage. Orb also works for cable tv, but Sling has better picture quality

Are you on unlimited data pack plan? I can imagine myself not enjoying the show if my GPRS monitor keep remining me that I've exceeded the day's quota. :D

Exactly the point I made in the T-Mobile shop in Monchengladbach yesterday. I get unlimited data in the UK with T-Mobile, but T-mobile Germany couldn't even give me a sim card that did data and voice on the same card! Their best data package tops out at 5gb data per month free and 20c per mb after that for euro 60/month. Terrible. Guess another solution except the Slingbox for me too then...

I have only 1 GB quota. They don't offer any unlimited here.:( I can use it almost 24/7 if I restrain myself in downloading or TC watching. I wish competition will heat up here later, and some Telco would offer unlimited data plan at a reasonable price.

Yes, on the unlimited ATT data plan. use Sling to watch tv and also use ORB to stream my 50+ gig of music and videos from home. I have 39.99 unlimited pdaconnect package and 900 nationwide rollover plan. Some people just purchase the Medianet unlimited for 19.99 and say it works fine.

Its something I keep mulling over. The drivers are available in 'linux', but not knowing how to set about recompiling them or writing fresh drivers for any system, let alone a wmobile device, I wouldn't know where to start. HOWEVER, I will say that the Ameo can power up a Hauppauge WinTV DVB stick, as it gets as far as 'Where's the drivers mo-fo' when you plug it in.

Are the unlimited plans in the US actually unlimited?
In the UK teh "unlimited" plan with T-Mob is actually capped at 1gb which I always thought was as good as unlimited since I never exceeded 500Mb on my Universal but now I've got my Ameo I'm not so sure....
I think the Ameo has a built in device to stop me going over my limit, it's called a battery ;)
T-Mobile TV works fine on the Ameo, limited channels but hopefully they'll get more.

But the thing is I charge my battery everyday......we have the same restrriction here in hong kong......the unlimited is actually 1G, after that they'll nail you on every exceeded kilobyte.....crap!

T-Mobiles 1GB "Unlimited" is a fair use policy. If you exceed it massively, you don't have to pay, you just get asked not to do it again or they'll restrict the service. Then you get a 14 day restriction on the second time. The third time, they'll lock down your service and ask you to upgrade to a better plan.
The Ameo usually comes with the Web 'n' Walk Plus package, which is 3GB Fair use.
T-Mobile are very good for data users.

ive been on the t-mobile 750 with 50 texts free for 7 years now. i phoned them a couple of months ago about web n walk, and they offered me an add on but its 2 gig limit. I think its an extra £6.50 a month.
Id still love a tuner for it though. I cant wait till sombody brings one out or modifys a driver.
how much is the sling box, isnt about £150, I get paid tomorrow, might go have a look at options.

Yeah something like this, but when I was looking at them, I did find a discount code via a generic search engine that got a real significant discount from the Dixons website. It was like £60 off or something. I've just done a search and they're doing a £25 off discount by entering 'NOW35' as a discount code in their checkout, but other retailers are available. :)
But I still want a real TV tuner option too. I wonder how hard it is writing device drivers? :)

How are you going to connect the tuner? USB? Because SDIO isn't an option... and the USB 2.0 port isn't a host. Host is USB 1.1. That's going to be REAL slow for transferring video data to the device...
I've been trying to find a DLNA video client for WM5, no luck as yet unless Conduits Pocketwhatsit does it. Doesn't claim to do video the way CorePlayer does though...

usb 1.1 is more than fast enough for tv. it would have to be a usb tuner, ive tried a couple of usb tuners the ameo powers them and then asks for the drivers. I had a pinnical pctv delux usb which used to supply dvd quality to my pc at usb 1.1 no problem.

I've just done some further research on this now I've been alerted to the speed issue. It would seem that the Hauppauge USB devices require a USB2 connection, however, my device was recognised when I plugged it in to the Ameo, although obviously there were no drivers available. I suspect it can cope with the lower speed for the inital driver handshakes e.t.c. then switches to USB2 for sending the MPEG stream. I'll do a test on my Lintel box with usb1 later.
