MS Office 2007 CAB - only for WM6

Hi, someone here wrote that it is impossible to create office 2007 cab file. I tried it and here is a result... Download the cab file and install it, then reset the device. It works only on WM6 for now, but I'll try to make it for WM5 too.
Tested on Wizard WM6 (5.2.318 Build 15342.0.0.0).

Disregard that. . . DOH!! After I deleted the .cab file, I gained back almost 7MB of Storage Space. . . a little more "liveable" now. :D

Running WM6 Business Edition.
Took about 6mb of space on my phone.
All 4 apps ran fine.
I could not remove it using the remove programs control panel app.

well seems like Office is better be coocked into ROM.. but if you just want OneNote, it can be seprately installed (although it's pretty useless IMO :rolleyes: )

This upgrade sounds great. Do you think that you will be able to make it work with wm5? If the maker of my ppc (fujitsu/siemans) does not plan on upgrading to wm6 does that mean that it can't be upgraded?

Yes, it would. But existing office is in ROM, so these files are not "overwrited" but only "covered" => you can safely uninstall it

No success for now - I've tried to sign these files and checked all dependencies but still haven't found a solution...

That's weird... one note does run perfectly... so in theory PP, Word, and Excel should too... My guess is there's some kind of conflict with the older version's files?

One note is running on wm5 because it is meant to run on wm5 and wm6, the office depends on some core components, so some files should be hacked to fit the wm5 core dependencies (or maybe it is inpossible)

Up to 2007 or just allowing file usage.

If we were to make a cooked version of wm5 and extracted all the embedded programs and replaced them with the wm6 programs which the wm5 device could run with out having the wm6 specs I think the cabs would run flawlessly

Hi jimmy98y, thanks for the cab! Happy to report that it does work -I am using it on LVSW's WM6 rom on a Hermes.

I've found 2 problems so far.

1. When displaying a Powerpoint presentation, the left-side and right-side softkeys do not work, and it is difficult to exit the slideshow. In other WM6 versions I have tried, pressing the left soft-key will bring up a menu where you can choose the exit the slideshow.

2. Excel doesn't open the first time. Excel starts if I open the file a second time. (UPDATE: apparently this is a known problem, and only happens once)

I am sure, you do not use it on PC, that's why you do not get the clue. It is very usefull on PC and if you can sync it with PPC, then it is much better then simple notes syncted with Outlook.

I can't install it on my trinity with the rom LVSW_Trinity_WM6_v2.0.1.1 (2007-05-27).
I get the message installation was unsuccessful. The program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permissions.

Update
I have found it, it was that the divice had not enof memory.
I have just restart it and now it's works ok.

As some one else has pointed out One Note 2007 on the PC is a great app, I dont think I could really live with out it! and now I can sync with one note i am over the moon!

I guess you're right, in traditional note you can write and draw, but in OneNote you can only write with keyboard (although the PC version allows you to draw). But the big advantage is that you can open the notes in your PC, unlike the the old files .pwi that the PC doesn't recognize.

Some thoughts about office under WM5

the subsystem of the executables are set to 5.2 and to work under wm5 it should be 5.1. I've changed them using Executabilty Check. The icons showed, but the executables don't work :(

Doesn't work on my HTC S710. Only OneNote works. All the other apps give a message they can't find the program or a component.
Really strange. I even tried starting it from inside of the Windows directory, no luck whatsoever

Just installed on my HTC Touch: Excel wont open neither xlslx file. It seems are correctly associated, but nor tapping on an excel files neither tapping on Excel app works. No message displayed, only a little screeen flash.
Moreover I cannot uninstall the app. Uninstalling from control panel says "Impossible to uninstall completely" . Trid to reboot and the new version apps are still there. This should be fine if only Excel works.

If you don't need Office 2007 file format support, than I wouldn't install it. As I said before you lose about 6MB of the internal memory. But if you need docx and xlsx support, than you can install this onto your Treo without problems. At least it worked fine for me.

However, although everything seems to be working fine on my Xda Orbit (HTC P3300) running original o2 UK WM6, but Excel bombs out when formatting a number. The spreadsheet closes without saving whenever I use the "Format Cells" function.

If there is no quick fix for this, would it be possible to uninstall without having to reflush the ROM?

I downloaded the Jimm98y CAB and tried to install it on my HTC StrTrk. The CAB workd great but it do not ask me where to install. I would like to install it on my storage Card. I also tried Tools like "CAB Installer" to change the installation directory but neverteless the CAB installs on main memory.

This is what I am after too!

I've been using Mary v3.7 SL ROM (WM 6.1) for ages now (with typical Spb products installed). That was good enough for my needs, BUT NOW I need to be able to open MS Word and Excel files. Does this mean I have to flash a new ROM OR should I try to just find a cab for MS office and install that onto my MARY ROM?

Any advice much appreciated.

Guys I have noob question. How do you save a file?:confused: I installed the cab and excel works fine right up to the point when I need to save. In the file menu there is no save option, and in the tools menu there is a save as, but that performs a cell sort. Does it autosave??
