IVE MADE THIS GUIDE ON HOW TO UNLOCK THE E220 MODEM WHICH IS USUALLY LOCKED TO A PARTICULAR NETWORK AND IT CONTAINS ALL THE TOOLS AND PROGRAMS REQUIRED( except qmat which you have to get from revskills.de so as not to violate any copyright laws). I GOT IT AFTER GOING THROUGH MANY GUIDES ON GOOGLE AND MADE A REALLY SIMPLE ONE FOR ANYONE TO FOLLOW. i initially made it to sell on Ebay however i decided to give it off for free so here is the link. I MADE THIS GUIDE WITH SCREEN SHOTS WHEN I WAS UNLOCKING MY OWN E220 MODEM.IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE GUIDE OR ANY SUGGESTIONS ON IMPROVEMENT LET ME KNOW.!!

Sorry to say that, but you are violating copyright by publishing and hosting my software.

Please remove qmat from your package. For current QMAT versions, refer to

Regarding the E160 I followed this tutorial (http://xvrsfrnssks.blogspot.com/2008/09/unlocking-huawei-e220manually.html), but the dump file does definitely not contain the unlock code as clear text.
In the comments of the linked tutorial there's a guy who has uploaded the dump files (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NRM67L5F) from before (commercially) unlocking his E160G and after including the unlock code, but it seems like the E160 uses some more complex algorythm.

i tried what devil slime had suggested and it worked untill the last part where i could not find the hex value 53 64 2c 00.........

Devil slime's tutorial, which is basicly the same as the one I linked, doesn't help at all, because the unlock code of the E160 is not contained in the dump file as clear text. To make it clear:
I've dumped my E160's ROM, extracted all 8-digit-numbers I could find in that file and I then tried to enter all numbers which could possibly (haven't tried those ending with two or more zeros) be the unlock code, but none of them worked. So again: the unlock code is not visible in the dump file - there's some more complex algorythm behind that unlock mechanism.

Hi,

I think the E160 unlocking code has 10 digits

The guy who has uploaded these files (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NRM67L5F) admits, his code had 8 digits.

OK, then why do 3 network enter 10 or 12 digits to unlock the E160 from their network?

As said before the tutorial doesnt display the 8 digit code(because it's 10 or 12 digits)

I can upload a tutorial and say it works and you'd be a beleiver of the crap just cause I uploaded it. HUH

Why don't you just extract all 10 and 12 digit codes and try them? In my dump file there are only two 10-digit-numbers, that could be an unlock code. If you send me your dump file, I can extract all 10-digit numbers with PHP-script. Since I have only one attempt left, I don't dare trying it.

I have unlocked a E220 according to the guide.

I did use qmat_399 to read the EFS und applied the unlock code with E220_SimLock_UnLock.exe.

Only the original web'n'walk software denies to find the free device - so you'll have to remove the sim pin and configure the dial-up manually.

I have not tried to update it to a provider independent firmware yet.

Output Dashboard Update (which I actually did NOT do):
Current Version: UTPS11.002.03.06.54

Okay, guys. I just got the unlock code for an E160-stick from which I dumped the ROM and what I can tell you is, that the unlock code has 8 digits and it does not appear in the dump files, at least not in clear text (neither in ASCII nor HEX).
Since I got the unlock code only by providing the IMEI the solution is "just" an algorythm, which needs to be found out.

You can try this dashboard (http://www.huawei.com/mobileweb/en/file/download.do?f=20499&ctype=1) found in Huawei surpport site (http://www.huawei.com/mobileweb/en/doc/list.do?type=-1&id=736).

Or this one (http://www.telkomsel.com/web/tselflash/downloads/UpdateHuaweiE220.zip) from Telkomsel of Indonesia (http://www.telkomsel.com/web/device_and_setting).It is actually generic not an operator dependent firmware. Also contains the Radio to upgrade to 7.2Mbps.

Several months ago I've tested dozens of combinations of different radio+dashboard. That Huawei Dashboard + Telkomsel radio seems best combination to face the disconnection issue.

For E220 only.

Just wanted to invite you all to participate in the 3G modem wiki (http://3g-modem.wetpaint.com), which I've launched yesterday.

It's still in a very early state, so don't expect more than a few pages, but you could help change this!

Would be great if you shared your knowledge about the Huawei E220 on that wiki!

To unlock newer Huawei modems you can go here.
http://www.unlockhuawei.info/
You have to enter the IMEI from the modem so i unlock code can be generated, cost just 10 euro for regular modems.

Not necessarily, codes can be either calculated with an algorithm (very unlikely nowadays) or extracted from the manufacturer's database if they are generated randomly at factory.

inquisitor
11th September 2009, 08:26 PM
So you think that the codes from those databases are being stolen again and again? That appears even more unlikely to me. I read on a Russian forum, that for some recent Huawei devices like the E169G there is a small tool, that does the unlocking.

I realise this thread is quite old, yet I find myself with the same problem that has been discussed and, as far as I can see, solved here, so here it goes:

I got myself an E220 and wanted to unlock it. I googled and stumbled onto some unlocking guides (like this one (http://unlocke220.com/)) which were basically saying all the same using the same tools.

I gave it a try, but didn't succeed, that's the reason for this post. Here is what I did:

After a firmware update (I used the latest firmware provided by T-Mobile) I connected the E220 and startet qmat (trial version). I sent the VERNUM command to the correct USB port, yet unlike in all the unlocking guides I got NOTHING in the textbox below as a return (although the program said "Successfully send command").
I tried several times, disconnecting and reconnecting the E220 and on some occasions I did get something back in the textbox, yet not as much text as in the screenshot of the unlocking guides.

Anyway, since qmat had said "Successfully send command", I just continued although I had not gotten anything back in the textbox after sending VERNUM.
Reading EFS took a LONG time (about a day). After about 10min qmat showed me an "please register" alert, but the process of reading EFS continued, so I let it finish. The resulting file was about 20kB big (quite small, I read it should be about 32MB) and when I loaded it into XVI32Hex and looked for the unlock code I didn't find it. Actually the whole file was filled with Zeros.

So before I continue with trial & error where every attempt costs me about a day, I wonder: What did I do wrong?

After much annoyance of the bot blocker on download page of unlocke220.com, I finally managed to download the software pack.

I followed the step by step guide to theletter and couldn't get the modem discovered by Vista. It would only load up when I inserted a sim card and re-plugged the modem.

I managed to finally get the QMAT program to connect to the modem and read the EFS and dump to a file.

Every time I searched for the hex values 53 64 2C 00 it returned no match every time.

Eventually I did manage to find the 8 digit code by searching for the hex 53 64 only to find that the simlock unlock program couldn't talk to the modem. is putting it mildy.

EricCartman

gtti148: at least you got something back from the EFS reading. my file is filled with zeros. :(

I would like to revive this thread and try to unlock my E220

A couple of years ago, I downloaded the afore mentioned software and spent hours searching through hex editors for the correct codes

In the end I just started entering blocks of numbers from the hex editor into the unlock software and eventually got the Successful Unlock message

http://img682.imageshack.us/img682/5549/captureqc.jpg

I am bumping this thread because it has not unlocked my modem, and I really want to unlock it

I get to the Read EFS part and try to save the file and it says my Phone does not Support Read EFS

If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate them
