There are several great chess options, as I'm an active online & computer chess player.

ChessGenius is excellent, a highly regarded program for PC, PPC, & SmartPhone versions, + others. Richard Lang the programmer is one of the true pioneers of computer chess & some of his programs have beaten the best players in the world. There is a trial period, but the cost is very small & well worth it. (ChessGenius is not a PPC client for online chess.)

If you search around on PPC software sites you'll find any number of chess programs for PPC. There are also Free chess programs for ppc out there as well.
Go to ChessGenius website & download v.1.9 for PPC.

For online, you need a chess client for PPC, that works with a particular chess service. I use both ChessClub.com & FICS, the best known & largest. ChessClub.com also pioneered bringing the chess world to the computer. Their PC chess clients are fantastic. ChessClub.com is not real expensive, but is oriented to serious players. GrandMasters play & hang out there too.

FICS (Fast Internet Chess Server) is the major Free chess service available. The pc chess clients are good.

There are inexpensive PPC chess clients you'll find on PPC software sites, but I use a client called: ChessThinker

This is free software developed by chess programmers, that can run various chess engines. You can play chess against the computer chess program within OR play online with ChessClub.com or FICS! (You need either a paid account CC.com or free account with FICS) It is the only chess client I know of that can do this.

In addition, it happens to be the best of any PPC client I've ever used (have tried many!). It works with all Windows PPC phones. The interface is versatile & perfect for the PPC.
