does the upgrade to 3.08 make a difference compared to the 2.26 that comes from US T-mobile? this wouldn't effect the usability of the custom roms, since they only update the OS and not the IPL/SPL/RADIO, right?

IPL/SPL update is not that important, but the ROM is a T-Mobile.

This one update to

IPL/SPL 3.08
Radio 2.69
AKU 3.3

I flashed this as my base for a WM6 rom. I downloaded it last week. It was linked in the German AKU 3.3 tmobile thread.

I tried it for a little bit, it's stable but tends to be slow, I can't run everything I want without resources getting dangerously low. So, I use it as a base ROM. I also tried a number of WM6 ROMs, but I can't live with the missed call issue with any radio ROM above 2.19. So I use Faria's WM5 3.3. It's the most stable and fast WM5 ROM I've found.

i only ended up flashing this as a base rom to go back to before flashing to a custom rom. took the spl/ipl and the radio, since it was official t-mobile and flashed straight to xm6. the rom seemed to look nicer, lotsa new programs, relatively stable...everything wasn't in english for the wwe...didn't know what studeni meant (it was in the calendar part).

anyway, overall, a good rom to flash back to, rather than constantly going back to the us t-mobile 2.26

I installed this ROM earlier today - seems to be okay, but a call did go straight to voicemail earlier - I was watching the phone and there was no indication of a call at all! I may possibly downgrade the Radio ROM to 2.25 later.

I previously had the official TMobile (USA) 2.26 ROM installed on my MDA and loved the blue dialer. This one appears to be white with pink buttons. Can someone please tell me how to get the blue one back?

Also, how easy would it be to install the Comm Manager from the 2.26 ROM?

Many Thanks!

Loaded this one this morning.
Took a lot of tweaking to get all of the normal MDA tweaks on.
Also lots of extra mods to get rid of/change the Croatian config to US.
Ran into a major show stopper this afternoon. Tried to change sort on 800+ contacts from by name to by company. MDA pretty much just locked up. Could not scroll. Could not select by letter. Had to soft reset to un-freeze.
Also, no HTML e-mail. Old MS Office.
As soon as I get time, will be trying some other version of WM6. Maybe time for Faria's!

I did notice the battery drain with the 2.69 radio, but I flashed back to the 2.40 radio that has been working so well for me and the battery drain is back to the rate it was when I had the 2.26 rom with 2.40 radio on it.

As for the dialer.... try the operator skin registry edit below....

Remove operator skin from Phone app

If your device's Phone app is skinned, you can remove by setting:

HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin\Enabled = 0 (DWORD decimal)

Similarly, you can restore it with:

HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin\Enabled = 1 (DWORD decimal)

Found it in the wiki.

as per other threads...since this is released by t-mobile officially, it should work for both g3 and g4 devices. i'm on g3 myself and had no problems flashing this (then later upgrading from it)

of course i know that. but what is what, because i dont want to install all the ext.rom cabs. anyone? i have no problem with the 2.69 radio rom,no miscall, no call drop and no battery drain. yes 2.19 radio rom has less battery drain, but the signal strength is not good as this one...i'm happy with my wizard now :)

am i not explaining myself clearly here? i wanna know what the cabs in the ext rom do. i know one of it might intend to fix wifi prob, and another one install voice dialing feature, and some install setting for MMS and GPRS (i guess this from the cab's name). if someone can explain 1 by 1 the use of the ext.rom, that will be good :D

fikrinsir,

I tried to extract all of the ex rom cabs. But I haven't been successful, yet. However, I have used this rom before but did not like the T-mobile stuff on it, so I did a hard reset then a soft reset before the cabs load. So, no T-mobile stuff gets loaded, just pure WM5. I then installed my own cabs to get Cingular's EDGE to work as well as a few other things. I'm still trying to extract the ex rom so I can have a look at it. I'll keep you posted.

As far as I know you can only upgrade if the original ROM you have is from the same vendor and in the same language. So for example, if you have a Dutch T-Mobile MDA Vario, you cannot upgrade to a german T-Mobile ROM.

Maybe there are other restrictions too, but about this restriction I'm certain.

OK, I found what causes the battery drain I observed: a dying battery. For the last two weeks the battery behaved erratic, making it difficult to pinpoint the cause of the battery drain to the battery itself. But right now it is almost dead, leaving no doubt about it. :(

So, both radio and ROM are cleared of all accusations.

I have BBC working on this for more than a month now.

What annoys me about this ROM is
- Smartdialing does not work unless I use the (IMHO ugly) TMO dial skin. I tried the suggested fixes, but none worked out.
- The Network operator name is not shown in the upper left corner of the dialer (where it used to be with older ROM's I used). I did suppress the carrierlogo but can't get the 'active' Operator to be shown.

Does anyone have a working solution for these issues?

phantranphuc
14th August 2007, 03:06 AM
-Carrierlogo is a gif file with 95x23pixel.You can do for yourself and copy to Window folder.
-If you don't let extROM software installed, you must install Smartdialing. If you did,go to HKLM\Security\PhoneSkin change Enable from 0 to 1 to enable smartdialing.

edsub
15th August 2007, 12:43 AM
-Carrierlogo is a gif file with 95x23pixel.You can do for yourself and copy to Window folder.
Like I mentioned: I did make a clear carrierlog.gif to get rid of the fixed 'T-Mobile' logo. In previous ROMs I had the Operator name on that position. This Operator name was taken from the active network and had nothing to do with the carrierlogo.gif. What I want is that Operator name back. Reason: I use a dual SIM.

-If you don't let extROM software installed, you must install Smartdialing. If you did,go to HKLM\Security\PhoneSkin change Enable from 0 to 1 to enable smartdialing.
The T-Mobile dialer skin is not in ExtROM, its in the OS.
I created my own ext rom. It contains Smartdialing and it works (like I mentioned) when I use the T-Mobile dialer skin (by setting HKLM\Security\PhoneSkin\Enable to 1 ). I do not want the T-Mobile dialer skin, but I do want Smartdialing

Anyone with better clues????

phantranphuc
15th August 2007, 05:36 AM
Yes,i see.But you can go to HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin and delete Dial and Progress key,Soft-reset(by hold down power key).If you don't want t-mobile skin in smartdialing expand windown, let install another dial pad skin like zoombienexus. This ROM use imgage to make carrier logo, you just choose image to make Operator logo, you can't get Operator logo name like previous ROM.

edsub
15th August 2007, 06:06 PM
Ah thanks.
This makes sense.
I try another dial skin that will superceed the TMO one.

A pity that the operator name cannot be show 'out of the air', now I even more happy with my today item that shows the current operator.

thats the long list of all the files. back to my question; i know how to view the file, and i know how to skip the installation process, and i did skip it. however, i think some of these files are important and nice, for example the icon folder etc. so i need someone who can explain to me which cab files are important/good so that i can install them manually after i skip the autoinstallation process. thanx for your help :)

I created my own extrom based on this and what I have myself and what I want.
It has some GPS stuff, Totalcommander, T-Mobile goodies (like PIE defaultscreen, ringtones and TMO Voicemail number), Crossbow theme. I has NO T-Mobile skinning anymore!
Its only partly oriented on T-Mobile NL, but I think its useable for any country. If you want it I can get in on the ED2K network.

Several issues I experienced with this rom:
- Call history and speed dial icons are unchangable, t-mobile changed the path or something so that clg_*.gif's aren't used anymore. Not so much of a problem but they're just too ugly
- No operator name on upper-left corner of the dialpad. I can live with this
- Somehow, sometimes, while listening to music with gsplayer, tcpmp, or any other players I've tried, the audio comes out simultaneously from both the built-in speakers and the headphone. This I can't live with. I cannot reproduce this but it happens randomly from time to time and I'm about to give up this rom and go back to t-mobile 2.26.

Anyone else having these problems as well?

I found this in Faria's 3.3 Rom, here was his fix:
set HKCU\Control Panel\Soundcategories\Ring\Speaker to 0

It may work for you!

I have installed a new dialer skin. Crossbow for the pin-entrey and black bigkey for dialer. Works like a charm.

- No operator name on upper-left corner of the dialpad.

This I cant live with, looking for a solution.

Ive been working on a bland release of this version. So far Im doing ok with it, but kinda hard to work on a 350mhz proc computer. LOL. 64mb of ram sucks. Im going to try and pass by my house today when relief gets here to grab my laptop which is much better. And it has all my software on it. I was able to get all the tmobile stuff off the phone including the carrier name in the upper left. Mind you, that was a pain in the butt itself. Its a system file and cannot be deleted from the phone. have to delete from rom itself. Ill keep you posted.

I got all the TMO crap off. Phone skin and all.

Also, I had to setup the AutoConfig to run a small cab, this does all the security provisioning, this is due to the fact that I cannot get the Security off thing to run via mxip provxml. T-Mobile US user. I prefer a stable rom.
Can you create a one like Xelencin's.
http://xelencin.shackspace.com/wizard/index.html
Take off the T-mobile useless crap, like dialer skin, Croatia things......
Keep a clean Rom for T-mobile user.

WM5 need to include the Daylight saving time patch.

Thanks

I dont understand, whats not clean about mine? The reg tweaks are not anything that will cause issues. Much less, The wav's and ringtones were taking up alot of available space. There was alot that went into this, so ill release. use if you want but you dont have to. No hard feelings here. I wanted to do this for myself anyway. I just figured id be nice and do a release.

Getting rid of the TMO logo IS quite simple.
If you get the carrierlogo file from the windowsfolder to your pc, just make it blank and transparent. The copy it back to the windows folder. Voila.
Off course deleting the file from the ROm is better, because the copy-trick consumes 2 times the space of the file (1 from the ROM and then then copied version)

Did you succeed in getting the Operator name (from the active network) in the upper left corner?

I would very much like a stripped version of this ROM (at least TMO skinning has to go as well as the MSN messenger stuff).
The crossbow icons, skins, themes and welcome (green is not ugly, but thats just a matter of taste) have to be in.
I like the black big-key dialer
Also some performance tweaks are needed (the Wizard isnt that fast as we know)

I am fiddling with the Hypercore kitchen but am not succeeding in creating packages for the things id like to get on it (ie the Crossbow skinning).

I can get you a set of cabs (partly reworked by me) that have what id like in.

OH: Id like to have the OS version patched to 5.1.195 and AKU 2.0 because of Blackberry Connect use

strange.
I upgraded from a 1.17ish QTek ROM to this (well the original) and AS works like a charm.
I did upgrade Active Sync however, maybe that helps?

It tells you that with aku 2.26 or higher you need at least AS 4.1 and with WM6 you need at least AS 4.5

Thats it trying to setup the sync. Just click that you dont want to use an exchange server then click next. That will allow you to get through to the next part which is the standard config stuff. If you read the screen it will tell you what its asking you.

Hi guys! I'm following the guides in upgrading and I just have a question on this:

17. My suggestion, take for what it's worth, is to download and install the T-Mobile 2.26 ROM
This will give you a strong 2.26 IPL and SPL to work with.

Now you SHOULD have a IPL and SPL of 2.26 to work with. If not, you screwed up! Don't attempt to install someone's hard work and bitch before you do these steps!

EDIT for Step 17 - Download and install the 3.08 IPL/SPL rather than the 2.26, your choice!

Question:
1. Instead of using the 2.26 ROM can I use the one posted on this thread?
2. Or can I flash the WM6 rom right away?

Thanks

edsub
6th September 2007, 01:56 PM
quite obvious: You should have a recent IPL/SPL. Your choice to take 3.08 of stick with (good but older) 2.26....
If I remember right it should always be 2.x or up
