8 Button CommManager from Trinity [Archive]

This thread is for providing CAB versions of the commManager I found that had been ported to the Hermes (and appears to be similar to the Touch CommManager style). The actual working cabs are now located in the 3rd post of this thread.

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE TRYING TO INSTALL!
You must do the following if you want this to work

Soft Reset your phone. When it starts DON'T DO ANYTHING WITH IT!
Install the 8 button commManager cab of your choice from the 3rd post in this thread
At the end of the install Choose Ok to allow the phone to reset again

You now have a working version of the 8 Button CommManager. Enjoy!

Heads up. I'm being told that cab doesn't work. I'm not a CAB person, so if someone knows more about cabs can you look to see why it won't install?

Before trying to install a new comm, you HAVE to make sure that you have stopped comm manger in the memory tab in the settings!! If you dont do this please dont ask why you cant install anything!!

It works great on WM5 (setup listed below)!! I just installed it. All you have to do it run the cab.

the bluetooth settings key under settings is not there. only the wifi settings. flashed rom 3 times already and same thing. am i missing out on something here. is anyone else experiencing this problem. Im running on xda 6.

Can you give us a screen dump of what you are seeing? and yes beam is off as default

To have the 8 button to work you should have the reg keys like this!

It works great, so i dont know how you could not get it! And also the pictures go to the slot, so if you chnage around the above things you will still get the same button image, but funtion would be different!

Ok some more information would be nice, what you run and any settings please!!!

I thought when i first saw this that it maybe something to do with you test size settings, but i have not been able to make mine as big as yours!!! It doe snot change!

And have you changed some of the text, as i can see that it is not the same at my colors and the first one!!! Make sure that comm manger is not running and copy the files from this folder and just drop them in your windows folder over right all that is in there!

If that does not work try deleteing all the files off your phone and then copy them from this folder again!

i flashed today XM6 and installed ce-star. that's all. i stoped commManager with memmaid, try to cover with yours, but these files under windows could not be deleted. ......it's still looks so ugly!:mad:

Did you run my cab file?

Dang i must be so dumb as i over looked what was said before about ce-star!!! Ok so you have installed this and you get that with the comm manger. Have you tried to uninstall that and see what you get?

it seems to be either in the mui or the exe. I looked through the 10 button cab, and these two appear to be the true differences. The other files like the link and help doesn't impact it at all.

I don't have a strong feeling like we're gonna get a fix, unless someone can build a new one... but then I've been wrong before...

Well how come me and mfrazzz have it working with out problems!!! I got mine from mfrazzz so i dont get how it could be different fro other poeple! I am thinking that something is not coping right for you!!!

I'll go back and triple check - maybe there was a problem in the extraction of the nk.nbf. I've been back and forth on so many isssues (and little sleep) I very well could have been trying the wrong files.

I'll install them on my phone from the original cabs, and keep my fingers crossed!

My comm manager looks exactly like this after installing XDA6 from frazzz. Now ive tried funman's 2 cabs a few times in an attempt to fix it but no go.

Matt, it sounds like after a random re-install it worked. which cab did you use?

yes - I was suprised because I thought I did everything. here's what I did:

Attempted to build ROM with 8 button - but had wifi to bluetooth setting issue.
Ran 10 button black cab.
played with the phone for some other reasons.
Ran 8 button cab, and it worked.

So I extracted the 8 button cab from the last post, added the files (and replaced the two in OEMAPPS), added the reg settings and flashed. Sure as poo, it worked, cause I'm using it now.

Thanks, Ill keep trying. Tried twice already. Every time I install I still get the same. (only wifi listed under settings, and 'Phone Settings' instead of 'Ringer')

I had given up hope, and that last loading of the 8B cab was a "what the hell" attempt.

But since I got it to work in a ROM build, I'm sure there's hope now.

Just be sure the comm manager is killed before running the cab - that may be the biggest reason there's so many issues with this upgrade.

i do not uninstall that and restore with spb backup my backup yesterday,that already installed ce-star, but now ...:o
i can accept that, but i don´t know what is the problem

I think the cab is okay - because I took a working 10 button kitchen and extracted the cab, overwrote the exe and dll, created a directory under /SYS and put the remaining files in it, created a new guid and made a .rgu with the reg settings and an empty .dsm file.

That, and I did get the cab to install and work. Too bad I can't repo the symptoms anymore!

I just confirmed that by installing the 10button CommManger and then reinstalling the cab Funman provided, will make the settings button work properly. I've tried installing just the Funman cab numerous times and it never worked to fix the settings button for me. But installing the 10Button and then the 8Button one fixes this.

So apparently something is in the 10 Button that is missing from the 8 Button one...

Well i have played again and made a nice multi color one!

When you see on your computer you may think that the green is not so nice, but when its on your phone it looks better!

Funman & mfrazzz, you're once again, hero's. The new supplied comm manager cabs are indeed fixing those problems. There's now 3 settings present, phone, bt and wlan and all working like they should.

Have you checked your regional settings? Make sure it is "English". Hope this helps.

Funman, I just installed this version that you posted (the multi colored one). It fixes it, and i did not install the 10button comm manager. So a big thanks for that.

You should post an all blue and all red one with the same stuff as this multi colored one. (cuz the old ones don't fix the issues like this multi color one does)

Funman, I just installed this version that you posted (the multi colored one). It fixes it, and i did not install the 10button comm manager. So a big thanks for that.

You should post an all blue and all red one with the same stuff as this multi colored one. (cuz the old ones don't fix the issues like this multi color one does)

All the ones that i have put up should work as i updated them all!

You can just chnage the reg key then to "ir", but you would have to make yourself the icon!

I'm running Crossbow v1.5. I have installed no other patches or fixes. I'm running many 3rd party apps but I can't imagine they're the cause.

After downloading the multicolor cab from the middle of this thread, I ran the installation and received the permissions error I described above.

Since I was unaware of the possibility of "reg hacks to disable the cert", I could not have provided that information.

Before posting my question I did a complete and thorough search of the forums but only found people asking the same question in relation to various other Wizard apps. In most of the cases I found, nobody replied (see here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=301035) and here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=283218)).

Thats abit rude is it not!!! For your information i have been looking at this to find a reason so poeple not being able to install it and i have not found any problems.

I can install all 3 on my Phone, Memory card. So maybe its a problem with you not the cab!!!

It really bugs me, when someone gives up time to do something for others and all they can do is moan about everything under the sun! We are not perfect, and if you see that someone has not given you a reply and solved your problems, just wait abit. I myself try to sort something out.

Maybe you could provide information and help and not hinder!

Where did you putting the cab before installing on your phone?
Have you got the reg keys set that does not look at cert when working with cab files.
Have you made sure that you have stopped Comm manger correctly before running cab file? (this will stop the installing of the files)

WoW !!!! I've running and fine. The problem, i think, ocurred when you starts the CommManager before the install of the new one because it resides in memory and can't overwrite them. Try this and good luck.

Dont want to sound rude or anything, but this was said a couple of times. You have to make sure that the comm manger is not running as this will stop the new one from being installed!

But glad that you have it up and running now!

I've updated the first post and pulled out the cabs I had there. It now points people to the 3rd post where the latest versions are found (thanks funman). I've also updated the 1st post with instructions on how to do the install. Because some (from what I've seen in other threads) have issues stopping the programs from running, my instructions are to do a soft reset, install, and let it do its reset and you have it.

So you stopped the comm manbger before you did the cab file? and which cab file you using, cus looking at your picture i know that the problem you have is due to the CommManager.exe.0409.mui file. If you used any of the cabs file download in the last couple of days you should have this file. (was updated 2 days ago)

I know that you are not using this file cus the flight word is not coming up and it should be!

Make sure you take off the .txt part before droping it in your windows folder!

I just had a brain wave!!! What lag are you using on your Phone, as this file is the english one and maybe does not work correctly with other lags!

Merci, At work so can not keep an eye on this! Thinking about it, i dont think that should be a problem!!! As if you want it in english you can use whatever one you would like!!!

And if you had a different lag setup putting this in with just put the comm manger in english that is all! Its just a pack with the write in!

Figured out the problem. Weather Panel was some how messing up the fonts. I uninstalled it and it fixed the problem

got a prob... everytime i try launch wifi with phone alarm, its switches bluetooth on instead.. anyone has a solution for the prob?

Well if you using a 3rd party app, then why are you posting in here!! That would not have anythng to do with the comm manager!!!

I am guessing that you are using this comm manager! Well the comm manager does handle the wifi or bluetooth in any new way to any of the others!!!

Well i was asked to make a package for each of the comm managers, but that is not needed.

All you have to do is copy all the contents into the folder of

\DEV_WIZcrossbow CLEAN-V2\OEM\OEMAPPS

And the rgu file just copy the contents the the rgu that is already in the folder. Make sure you follow the rules for this!! Make sure line at end and edit bit at the start! I can not remember as i have changed mine, but you may find the other one in there so just paste over the top!

I've followed all the instructions to a T and my comm manager still has the font messed up.

For those who are having font issues please check your Windows\Font folder. I did some experimentation.

Initially it appears it was loading a font called "REGISTER.TTF". I renamed the file to "REGISTER.TT" so it won't be recognized by Windows as a font. Restarted and the Comm Manager now appears correctly.

Then I tried renaming REGISTER.TT to "TEST.TTF" and restarted just to see what happens. The font is totally different now. It has an interlaced look as if every other horizontal line was drawn.

Now for whatever reason I cannot get it back the low-res blocky font. Its stuck on the interlaced OR if I delete this Register font it will go to the proper font.

SUMMARY

Please check your font folder and try renaming fonts to TT extension to disable them. I believe the Comm Manager is programmed to look for a particular font but if its not available instead it will use one from a particular font family (or closest match). So unless someone can identify the exact font that it is looking for, you cannot have ugly blocky fonts on your PPC.

damn funman, I should watch this thread more often. I just extracted the 7 button OE, 8 button Touch, and both 10 Black & Blue cabs into OEM packages for the kitchen... ah well, it was good practice...:rolleyes:

You can but it may not work 100% as there may be some different reg keys!!

I already found the file for this problem!!! take the txt off the end of the file and copy into your windows folder.

I took this off my phone and found that it has all the correct settings when i opened it up!!!

Are you using one of the above files? Cus if you have downloaded in the last 2 weeks you should have this file already!

Ok you can try it but i dont really know that Phone so i dont know!!! But i guess the best way is to trya nd findout!!! it could work but i know that the wizard and hermes have different enteries!
