Ed checked them, and they're 6mb.
Sorry for the delay guys, I put way too many irons in the fire...
Theloon has made excellent progress on v4. I'm gonna run a quick test flash and will post the updated kitchen shorly afterwards.

Hey guys, I know I said I'd keep this thread up, but without being able to test the hardware, it's really tough to manage the kitchen :( I hoped to be able to, buy it's just to dynamic.
Since theloon has done so much debugging of the new setup, I offered him to either maintain or start a new kitchen thread to keep this project going. We're contacting a mod to make it happen.
Please feel free to keep track of the Hermes kitchen thread I'm running, and use any of the programs that I have over there. It's all for everyone to use :)

Wow, this thread has 76 pages!
How do I find the latest WM6 here? I'm so late in the game, I would never be able to catch up with this thread!
Awesome stuff here.
This is by far the best supported system I have ever experienced.

Did you correct this setting for correct working of sym.txt?
Thanks for your work!
my first though is to look through the OEM_LANG_409 .rgu entries.
Replace the entry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Layouts\e0010409]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Keyboard Layout\Preload]
@="e0010809"
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Keyboard Layout\Preload\1]
@="e0010809"
With:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Layouts\e0010409]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Keyboard Layout\Preload]
@="e0010409"
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Keyboard Layout\Preload\1]

In OEM\HTC Streaming Media is one more folder "HTC Streaming Media" with the same content. BuildOS.exe complains about missing imageinfo.bin, but after deletion of the folder everything seems to be OK (have to glash first :-)
Also the HW Keyboard fix I asked in my last post isn't there, therefore sym.txt is ignored :(

I started fixing issues using Matt's 4.0 beta, sorry I didn't know some of you were not "in the loop". This is going to be my starting point (cleaner than the older betas) I can clean it up even more if given the time. I own my own company and took time off to get this clean and usable.
Now I have to focus on my money maker, and ease off on my hobby.
Post you request and fixes and I will do what I can or I can just let you work things out for yourselves.
You have access to all the tools I have and you are using the files that I gave up my time and worked very hard on, if you can fix it, Feel Free!
By the way I get $150.00 an hour at my regular job so it takes priority!

But remember although a bunch of bells and whistles are nice and all but they can impact the speed of your wizard by executing extra commands, adding to the registry, taking up space in memory and so on.

i can not find them in the first post.
it says uploading.
I've downloaded a vanilla version of the WM6 (the one that was extracted and is made by MS). It was smooth and fast until i installed all kind of HTC touch plugins and apps. Now its really slow.
I uninstalled everything, but it is not like before, so i am reflashing. But i was looking to cook it a little bit since vanilla is fine but i prefer chocolate.
I just cant find the files, i have not sleep in 20 hours now, maybe is that.

If all you need is a new kitchen please see post #764 on page #77 of this thread or if you do not want to read through and catch up on things, here you go: http://rapidshare.com/files/43828013/318_v4.1.rar.html
I do not have privileges to add to first post yet.
First of all, this kitchen is for everyone to work on and make fixes. I'm sure everyone greatly appreciates the efforts of those that work on this kitchen as much as I do.
I have a business and I know that my team mates are my heroes and I respect them greatly, just as I do anyone here. I cannot do it all by myself and rely on the dedication of others, contributers and tester alike.
I was asked to take on the responsibility of the up keep of this thread but maybe We should start a new one instead? We are working with a reworked base with a lot of bugs removed. My main reason for not starting a new thread was to give credit to those whom have contributed as set forth in the first post of this thread and the ones not mentioned but showed up later by posting later through out this thread.
And just to clarify things a little:

More than likely you have selected to have your phone automatically update your timezone. This isn't a bug but how the cell companies actually do daylight savings. Since they broadcast that the timezone is now -7 for you, your phone displays a -7 TZ (Mountain Standard Time is -7). I'm in Mountain normally, but the towers are broadcasting -6 here, so on my phone it changes to Saskatchwan for me. This "problem" will go away when DST ends and the towers go back to Standard Time. The other solution is to turn off the setting that has your phone automatically change timezones.

Here's my input...
Forums are not conducive to trying to run a collaborative type project (which is what this has turned into). Instead this should project should move to the Wiki (or Sourceforge maybe). Updates can be posted in this thread to keep it rooted here, but by moving to something that allows collaboration would help with this.
In a forum, whoever starts a thread is the owner of it, and if they leave, then that thread will die (or it gets confusing as nobody can update the first post except for the owner or a mod). If you move this to a Wiki (Get a mod to update the first post to say all download info and stuff is now located on the wiki page), then anyone can update the pages for it. Then choose a place where people can post/upload contributions. You probably still want to have only a few people that can update the true source (to avoid someone putting bad stuff in either intentionally or by accident) but now this can be turned over and managed by multiple people.
The other option (if theloon is to stay the master of this) is to get the mods to change the first thread to say the download information is now found in post xxx and give a pointer to it that people can click on. This would be a post further into the thread that theloon (or whoever) can update... Messy, but would be an option if people feel they need to stay in this format only.

Dear The Loon,
i appreaciate the effort of the people that makes ROMS for everyone else. I am trying myself to understand more and more of the rom making process to help in anyway i can to the process.
Nevertheless, i was away for a month, and i see now that there is a new core (based on Ingenetics) and i would like to try it. But when i saw that there was about 78 pages of thread, i belived that the first post was going to contain the latest.

On my lunch break so I will make it short.
You should be able to use any kitchen you like, they are all based on tools created by others (NB2NBF, shelltool, etc...) they just have variations in the batch script that control their interactions with each other so some perform different functions, some do more than others. the main ingredient you need to change is ROM, SYS and OEM, familiarize yourself with different kitchens and use the one that suits your needs. If you want or need a pre-compiled rom there are plenty of them out there.
My goal is to help with the provision and maintenance of a great base rom and usable oem packages.

The different parts of touch-flo do use up some resources, somewhere under 1MB give or take a few KB. I personally wanted to see it working just to satisfy my curiosity. If it didn't take up so much resources I would like to use it for the quickdialer, but alas that's not the case.... besides that touch.dll makes it way to uncomfortable to close apps for me (thank God for smartkey)

In Faria's kitchen OS820000.nb (or something like that, I can't remember the exact name) is named FLASH.nb0 so you'll have to change the file's name in order for the kitchen to find it.

OK, I admit you got me there :-)
But seriously, a ROM with TouchFLO that I cooked up took up more RAM than a non-TouchFLO ROM(3-4mb).
Speedwise, they are not that different, as far as I could see. But this kitchen builds ROMs that are the fastest I've tried.Period
I find that the Kaiser Home Plugin does almost everything TouchFLO does, so it gets my vote of approval.
My only quirk is with the Camera app, but that could be 'cos I added the OVxx950 patch,. Still testing.
So, to wrap up, it's your choice, mate.
masr1979: I agree, but for me, form follows function.(That's why I will not be getting an iPhone)

Let me see if I can help!
1) it looks like you left your phone so long that drained your main battery down so much that your phone no longer has sufficient power to power up the screen, you must find some way to charge battery (desktop charger with separate slot for battery) once you have accomplished this we can proceed.

Try renaming 80040000-OS.nb to Flash.nb0. The img2nfs tool seems to be looking for Flash.nb0
Or, if you are REALLY brave, edit the BAT file (Notepad does the job.Just Right-click and hit edit).

This has me very confused. First thing, exactly where do all the filed like the nk.nbf go? Do I need to dump it like other kitchens, and it there any specific reason why BuildOS will not work for me at all in this kitchen?
Which kitchen? I use Kitchen 1.0 and it works without any errors.

Neato!
But a suggestion: Tag the file with what's inside. It is easier for everyone.
P.S: Is there anyway to convert OEM packages into CABs. I don't want to mess with my ROM yet ( It's sooo brand-new!)

Has anyone else had problems setting a .MID file as a ring tone?
It shows as available, I select it, but I cant play it and when the phone rings it automatically uses the windows default ring.
I know its a valid file, I used it on my previous WM6 roms. I have tried placing it in \Windows\ in \Windows\Rings in \My Documents\My Ringtones\ all with the same results. I can play the file with MediaPlayer just fine, even with PocketPlayer...but I cannot get the blasted thing to work as a ringtone...
I've attached the ringtone for others to test MIDI files...

I had a similar problem using MP3's as ringtones. They wouldn't show up if I put them in the ringtones folder, but if I put them on the root of the device everything works fine. Try putting the file there and see if it works for you.

Nope, the options page of the phone application , or the incomming call in the notifications doesnt see it in the \ of the system.

I had the same problem some rom versions ago, but solved it by installing wmp. Had a feeling someway the rom didn't know how to handle mp3 files without wmp. The rom was displaying the mp3 files but could not play them.. reading this it could be just the registry fix....?!? which was solved by installing wmp

So far the only problem I've encountered has been the X-button not working. I'm unable to close applications when I tap or hold the X button. I'm trying to isolate the issue to see if it may be related to an option I either unchecked or checked.
This happens with 1.0 and 1.5.

How do i remap any of my keys to launch the cube? or how do i launch the cube, in some other way?

I must have missed something, in the first thread it says that both the .318 OS and the OEM pack were updated to version 4.0 on the 17th and thomassster mentions version 4.1 in a post above, but the links in the first thread still say OS ver. 3.8 - uploading and also OEM ver. 3.9 - uploading. I was out of town for a few days and wasn't able to keep up with this thread while I was gone, but I went back 3 or 4 pages looking to see if the links were posted there, but didn't find them. Did I not go back far enough or did I just completely miss them?
Nevermind, found it. Missed it by 1 page.

This is nonsense, my wizard has no problem with X button on NBD 7.9.
So this issue can be fixed by software. I will not advice anyone to start messing with the hardware.

Dear TheLoon,
My grateful thanks for taking over the maintenance of this kitchen.
I downloaded version 4.1, and noticed the following :
Some customisation appears initially and after a hard reset. The customisation contains Cingular settings, ContactsAdd, and .tsk files. Also the HTC Touch dialer is not showing in the Enter Pin screen, but does show when dialling.

Anyone else having this problem?
I consider the ROM I built lite (23.74 MB) only thing added is RL Today (puts a large time display on the screen) & BT Audio Toggle.
This is the 3rd variation I have built, I had a problem the other day when I updated the radio and thought that was the problem. Since than I noticed after I install a new ROM and put my settings the way I like ( Today screen, Start menu, background, etc). When I do a soft reset it hangs on the 3rd splash screen, the blue green windows mobile one. I have to keep pressing the soft reset and have pulled the battery, it takes about 10 times and than finally starts up. the last time the clock was wrong, battery status & RL Clock was missing on the today screen.
I like the ROM I built and would like to keep using it if it wasn't for this problem.
anyone seen anything like this? or have a solution.

Another Q,
Which key do I enable in the registry...so that when I am making a text message I can just put the name in the "To:" Field, and it will search through the contacts?
As of right now, I have to goto Menu --> Add Recipient, Which is somewhat annoying.
Also, it seems the Kaiser Today Plugin doesn't seem to install properly? It just installs the regular home plugin (b/w, not color)

The color icons are a modification from someone else, not the original.
Check the Kaiser thread. I can incorporate them in another package if you would like
or you could do it yourself and post a link and I will add it to the next build.

Me thinks I have done a really good job of thinking I knew what I was doing here. You all know the guy/gal that knows just enough to be dangerous? Right at the moment, that would be me...
So here is the situation... I have flashed my 8125 about a dozen times now, either with pre-built ROM or using Faria's Kitchen. With all the cool new stuff in the "touched" versions I wanted to get a bit more bang for my buck so I downloaded and Kitchen Centeral 4.1 and started playing around. I added back some of the "please test" packages, put in the color Today plug in, etc. The ROM builds fine, no errors, loads fine, no errors but OMG the phone goes straight to H*** when I turn it on. If any of you fantasitic hyper-smart people out there can find the error of my ways I would be very greatful.
Here are the build specs and the post build condition:
Spec:
IPL/SPL: 2.26 (t-mobile build) tried IPL/SPL:3.08 too.
GSM: 2.19.11
8125 G3
Post Build condtion:
PC reports USB not recognized, reboot PC fixes that.
8125 will not run ANY CAB file, simply reports unsuccessfull
PC will not allow activeSync partnership, stays as guest (ActiveSync 4.5)
and now the really cool part...
If I open the launcher and tap the "set backlight" button, the whole phone locks up and will stay that way until I soft reset or pull the battery.
If I try to re-flash (to anything, even just run the splash update) the updater program will error saying it cant create the file. I have to go to bootloader mode to re-flash. Then reboot the PC to re-establish connection.
On a completely minor issue, the HTC audio plugin doesnt show up on the today screen although it is in programs.
Fortunately I have been able to re-flash back to a known good ROM in each case. I have tried several attempts at the build with various OEM options and always get the same result.
Thanks for your support!

I had a very similar situation when I built. I tried reflashing and actually had it hang and give an error message while flashing. NBD, I just put it into boot loader and then reflashed with my last working .nbf (from v3.6 of the OEM and pack)

The Adjust Backlight has never worked for me, and I don't really care. So it takes 3 taps instead of one...big deal.
By the way, if you are trying to use the HTC Home Plugin with the weather file ( try the world weather file ,NOT from the "needs work" folder), check if PIE works. If not, try to cancel the customization procedure after a HR, that should do the trick.

Thanks
First off, a disclaimer: I am not responsible for anything you mess up, if your house burns down/up, bla bla bla.:)
:cool:
Now that we got it out of the way, it's down to business.
1. Open up the plugin folder, and look for a file with the extension *.rgu ( the part before the .rgu can and will be different)
2. Using notepad or a similar text editor, open it up.
Use Find to look for this
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Launcher\0]
There should be another 8 lines after this with the last number from 1 to 8
e.g.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Launcher\1]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Launcher\2]
................
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Launcher\8]
3: Select any one of these and insert the following immediately after the headers (a.k.a [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\H........)
"DispName"=" HTC AudioManager"
"Path"="\\Windows\\AudioManager.exe"
"Type"=dword:1
"Uptime"="2007,06,13,5,31,15"
<----------------end of copy region----------->
4. Edit these lines. This is only an example
Leave the text before the = sign as it is. Alter the parameters as you like, but only inside the dbl-quotes
Explanation of the parameters
i) Dispname is the name of the application
ii) Path is, well, the path of the application. Should be in Windows, but can be anywhere else. Make sure to use TWO //s instead of one
iii)Leave the Type value as it is
iv)I haven't figured out uptime yet, but I think it's a text value saying WHEN you added the shortcut.
Save it, and you should be ready to go.
:cool: P.S : If there is text after the header, be sure to remove it all before adding the new stuff. I have seen some nasty complications.
:eek: IMPORTANT: Add a carriage-return-linefeed (hit the enter key) after the values, or you will mess up the RGU compiler.
By the way, These instructions are copyright by me. All your freedom to copy are belong to us.

It sounds to me like maybe you're doing something wrong when you're adding your files to your kitchen. Does each file have a .dsm file, a .rgu file (only needed if it needs to add registery settings) and an initflashfiles? The other thing that I can think of that could cause this is if you built all of the packages yourself, did you get a different UUI or GUI number for each package that you created?

i released 3 roms before here and other places, so don't worry about creating packages.

Sorry its right, I must have missed that post and was just touching on the usual reasons for the kitchen not accepting a new package.
I guess the best way to find out if the kitchen has a size limit would be to go in and pull out a bunch of packages that you know you aren't going to use and see if it allows you to use them after that. I know that there probably is a limit to the number of packages you can actually add to a rom, but I wouldn't think only adding 5 of them would be enough to hit that limit unless you're adding everything else in the entire kitchen to it.

if i pull out them then run the buildimgs.exe, will run w/o problems, when i put the packages which don't accepted before, also will run w/o problem, and if i put again the files which i pull out, will show me the error message.
for more details, BuildOS.exe runs w/o any problems, the problem when i start buldimgs.exe, will adding all the files, when it arrives to the end of files, it stopped then showing " there is a problem with Buildimgs.exe app, and you have to close it ". im using faria and core kitchens, the same problem, but core one will do everything right, but while upgrading the device will stop on 95~98% :eek: .

Hmm, you've got me. Maybe you are hitting the limit for the number of files that can be cooked in to the ROM. Did you ever think about creating an extended ROM and just putting the cab files of the packages that you want to add in to it?

Oh and of course why the tempremental weather program doesnt like the XML file.
Judging from my poking around, there seems to be 2 formats to the way these XML files are formated. So depending on if you are using the non-Kaiser or Kaiser plugin they won't be interchangable.
snippet of Kaiser XML
<city name="AK - Anchorage" loca="NAM|US|AK|ANCHORAGE" land="United States"/>
<city name="AL - Birmingham" loca="NAM|US|AL|BIRMINGHAM" land="United States"/>
<city name="AL - Huntsville" loca="NAM|US|AL|HUNTSVILLE" land="United States"/>
<city name="AL - Mobile" loca="NAM|US|AL|MOBILE" land="United States"/>
snippet of non-Kaiser XML
<city name="US - AK - Anchorage" locationcode="NAM|US|AK|ANCHORAGE"/>
<city name="US - AL - Birmingham" locationcode="NAM|US|AL|BIRMINGHAM"/>
<city name="US - AL - Huntsville" locationcode="NAM|US|AL|HUNTSVILLE"/>
<city name="US - AL - Mobile" locationcode="NAM|US|AL|MOBILE"/>
I know that there probably is a limit to the number of packages you can actually add to a rom, but I wouldn't think only adding 5 of them would be enough to hit that limit unless you're adding everything else in the entire kitchen to it.
it sounds to me like he may be trying to overload the rom. In my personal experience (YMMV) I've found that buildimgs error always happened when I tried to add too many packages. Now I'm not quite sure if he means ANY 5 packages, or 5 specific packages. 5 packages doesn't seem like much, but depending on what they are, I'd say it can add up rather quickly. Especially with packages like touch, transcriber, MIDlet, and Voicecommand to name a few.

It looks like there is a limit, especially if you've tried it in more than one kitchen and it does the same thing. I figured there was, but I didn't figure that you could hit it so easily. Looks like the best thing for you to do would be to pull out the packages that you find the most useless and replace them with the packages that you really want to add. I myself would also pull the packages out that are for apps that get updated constantly, such as things like batterystatus, etc.

No problem, wish I could have helped more. One other thing that may help you add a few more packages would be to compress the files. I can't help you out there though, I don't have any idea how to do that.

the problem with the number of files to be dumped, if the problem with the size i can do compressions because i have the optimizer app and did it before.

Unfortunately I don't know if the limit is placed on the number of files or on the total size of all of the apps combined. I would think it would be on the total size of all the apps combined and doing a little compression might help you sneak in an extra package or two. I guess that would all depend on how much you can get the files compressed and how large the files are that you that you try to sneak in. Theloon or silversurfer might be able to help you out with that more than I can.

i tried to compress but many issues appear with the apps compressed, like before i hate the compression process, if it useful, HTC will do it

Sorry its right, I'm out of ideas. I can't think of any other way to try to put more packages in other than to give up a few of the less used packages. If I think of anything else I'll definitely let you know.
Thanks for letting me know where the compression tool was, I've only played with the core kitchen a little and I didn't realize that was in there. From what I've read from some of the cooks on here it must be pretty difficult to compress a file the right way to work in a kitchen. I think I'm going to have to do some playing with the compression tool and see what I can figure out when I get the chance.

:D I have been working on a completely new build of Ver 318 for the "Consolidated Kitchen Central - Build it YOUR way" kitchen and need some brave souls to beta test what I have so far. Anyone interested can PM me for the link. This beta contains these fixes and add ins:
Back light no longer freezes
Spelling/Word completion now works
5 Tab Home screen w/favorite people dialer
Home screen is now more transparent
You should be able to add any packages you like, if you have any problems make sure you don't have duplicate .rgu and .dsm
Now you should really be able to "build it the way you like".
I haven't fully incorporated the "The Cube", yet.
This ROM has built in AT&T customize on first install and on HR, if you don't need it just remove the OEMOPERATORS FOLDER from SYS, but please try out the Aero.tsk.
This build only contains SYS, ROM, OEM so use your kitchen tools and have fun!
Please use the "Beta Testers Needed" thread for inquiries, problem reports, fixes.

It looks MUCH more professional than the grey/transparent icons and it does work in the kitchen! The only issue I had with this module is the weather XML file. It didn't want to recognize it.

This thread is for the consolidated kichen, you use a kitchen to build full ROM images for your phone. If all you need is the applications, you need to find the .CAB files in the correct thread.

Trying out the 5.0 beta and I was successfully able to load the rom. Couple problems.
When I did a soft reset, I was stuck on the third green windows mobile splash screen. Tried reseting couple times, didn't work, so I reflashed an old rom.
The rom is a little faster than the older version, but there is no cube, which I really like.
Cube softkey is still there, so hopefully it can be added later.
IE doesn't seem to work well with my wifi.
Below is my personal opinion...not to be taken negatively since I do appreciate all the work of mattk_r and theloon
I'm not use to all those little changes like the schwing sounds of the menu, the power icon on the top right when charging, and the battery icon replacing the clock. I liked it the way when things were standard.

When designing this kitchen I took into consideration that many of you would like to incorporate your own favorite OEM packages, with so many different ones out there plus the ability to mix things up and create your own (like with changing the home screen grfx) I tried to strip out all components and place them in there proper packages in an attempt to eliminate orphaned files in the OS.
My office is in my home so I worked on things back and forth in conjunction with my regular job, so I admit I probably missed some things that is why this is called a beta. I am already aware of a few glitches and working on them now. If you find a bug Please report it!
I especially want to thank Russ741, his testing and reporting practices have been the fundamental building grounds for this release, I could not have done this without members like him.:D
My next project is to build a fully working camera 4.11 (touch version) if it is possible.:)

Once you build the .nb file you have to flash it to the phone, I HIGHLY recommend you read this thread before you do ANYTHING!!!!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298613

Joe,
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Take a look at the attached .PDF from Faria. It shows you where to plug in your extended ROM. Just be careful, as I found out the hard way, if you exceed ~53M of total ROM you will not have a working phone after the flash. It is a recoverable condition, just annoying.
edit: Ok so Faria's PDF is too big to post here is the link instead: ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/WIZARD/ROMS/Faria%20WM6%20ROM%20Kitchen.pdf

does anyone know why when you install a cab file on a rom created by this kitchen it refuses to put shortcuts into \windows\favorites?
when I install weather watcher I get 2 shortcuts in windows\programs. one of then is supposed to go in windows\favorites.
every other rom I've installed weather watcher on puts the shortcut into windows\favorites like its supposed to.

i had problems surfing the web in IE when using using wifi. I got an IP and DNS was resolving but IE would not make the connection..Did the whole My Work / ISP settings thing.. still no go..
All other internet apps like ftp and even the HTC weather thing was able to access the internet via wifi.. IE and Live were the only problems.. (so far ;-)
I ended up deleting "Cingular_MediaNet.cab" from the kitchen.. and did the OS build again.
Works great now..
I think what was happening before is that IE preferred using the cingular settings even if you change it in the settings..
