Hi,

I know that HSDPA is so much faster than GPRS.

But, how fast is GPRS actually?

Because T-Mobile (NL) offers Internet Pocket Total with speed up to 64 Kbps for 9.95 euro.

I have that subscription at this moment, and because I don't own an HSDPA capable phone, I get GPRS connection (I use Magician :P).

The GPRS speed is slow (of course).

When I have an HSDPA capable phone (soon), I assume that I can get the HSDPA connection and it will be limited to 64 Kbps too.

Now I confuse, if both are limited to 64 Kbps ... how much will be the difference between GPRS and HSDPA?

I still remember the old question: Which one is heavier, 1 kg iron/steel vs 1 kg cotton? :)

PS: Anyone using T-Mobile NL + Internet Pocket Total 64 Kbps subscription and uses HSDPA? How fast is it?

Well, if the plan limits you to only 64Kbps then no matter what speeds your phone will support, you probably won't get any faster than 64Kbps. That's a bummer. :(

I don't subscribe to a data plan, but from what I hear, you can commonly expect an average speed of anywhere between 500Kbps-800Kbps and even higher in many places. But it doesn't matter with the plan you mentioned though.

Taurus, you won't get 64kbps with GPRS. No matter how hard you try.

I know that :p .

I was referring to the speeds he'd get if he had the HSDPA capable phone. He'd be capped at 64Kbps even if he had a device capable of supporting faster speeds.

This is a little bit outdated, but gives you an idea.

My experience is that all depends of your network and your device. Check mi signature !! My 8125 connects with same settings to the same network @ 105kbps.

Yes, I realized now that T-Mobile NL still uses the CSD technology to deliver the GPRS. According to the wikipedia, CSD max speed is 9600 bps (about 1.2 KBps).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Packet_Radio_Service

T-Mobile NL:

English:
T-Mobile NL does not use HSCSD ... bla bla ... we use CSD bla bla ... that's why the speed is 9,6 KBps bla bla ...

I am sure, it should be written 9.6 Kbps (bit/second) !

Now, I know why my GPRS connection is terribly super slow !

Time to wait for HTC Kaiser OR Toshiba G900 :)
