I wanted to get a thread dedicated to getting the applications out of the Touch .nb, and into the Wizard - and specifically the "cube" and "touch" functionality that is the trademark of the new phone.
Please save "oh, I'd like" or "oh, wow" stuff for other threads - this is a dev discussion.
Criteria: Working discussions on what's been done, what are we doing, and what could be done to get the excellent new features to work.
I hope that by sharing information - we can key in on the results much faster then everyone working on their own.

Here's what I've tried so far:
Using the 1413 as a base, I've taken and replaced the OEM folders from the touch build and replaced the 1413 folders -completly. This resulted in the phone self power cycling at the 3rd splash screen.
I've also taken the entire touch build, replaced the ROM contents with the one from 1413 (and I might have replaced the /SYS/OS folder as well - going off memory). This was the most successful, as I was able to boot the phone and get a lot of the touch's functionality. Issues were: SID Lock error, no "touch" function, and button mapping was wrong - only button 1 showed up on settings - buttons.

Well, to follow up on my note in the other thread. I did pretty much what you did and ended up in the same place.
I did discover that the two other "raw" files in the original leak contained xip contents. I'm not sure why there are two of them, and they contain similar contents. I ran a build using the one I've labeled xip1 and it gave an error about missing build.rgu in buildos. I then ran a build using the one I labeled xip here (which has a build.rgu) and it built and booted, but worked essentially the same as when using an older wizard xip.
Anyway, time for bed now.
PS I tried to upload a zip of the two xip sections but it failed. Forum maintenance I suppose. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow if anyone seems interested.
Edit: Tried again to upload, failed.

I think we should start by the Dial Pad... I think it will be the easy thing to do.
Check this Hermes Rom:

Why not port the entire ROM ?
Just a thought.
BTW, from what I know, in order to make it work, you will have to use the XIP from the Wizard, not the one from Touch.
I have some work now...but i will try and do that bit later...today or tomorrow.

I also thought this... But now we have an official build from ms... I think it is a bit more stable than a ported version (if i'm wrong, please correct me).
@joaosousa:
I tried to port the Dialpad yesterday... But it seemed that I missed some needed files/registry hacks.... Still trying.

OK, for those who want to play with the Touch Rom, here's a rapidshare link to download a "working" nk.nbf. I've also included total commander, and a registry editor for those who might want to tinker with getting things to work.
The main issues are these:
1) Pull the sim card before flashing, or you won't be able to to get to the today screen.
2) Since the elf is only a one button machine, most of the buttons do nothing, including the power button. You'll have to take out the battery to turn it off. (Unless you can figure out the registry changes needed to make it work.)
3) Don't worry about setting your timezone in the initial screen. You can set it later from the settings menu.
4) Be ready to flash back from bootloader mode when you're done exploring!
5) I pulled adobe acrobat, catalog, autoupdate. Everything else is pretty much stock. So you can get a feel for what's included, and what you might want to pull for use in the Wizard!
This is OS only.
Have fun!

Yes, understood. I think the fact that it works just as well with either XIP just shows how similar the two machines actually are. Either that, or whoever "leaked" the rom included an appropriate XIP on purpose.

Actually, I used an xip pulled directly from the "release", but I've tried it with a Wizard xip also and it worked exactly the same. The 80040000-os.nb file was initially from one of the recent releases, but then replaced with a "rebuilt" one from this release. (Doubt it makes much difference.) The initial 80040000-os.nb file is used to set up the file structure only, the files are pure "Touch" in this nk.nbf. I expect this operates pretty much equivalently to the one you're using though.

You probably saw this too, but when I activated the biotouch app, it only gave me a checkbox for sound. (I think that's the app I played with.) When I activated it from file explorer it didn't do anything except click as you mention. I also looked for the "cube" and didn't find it.

Hi, The stock rom is a bit too large to fit into the Wizard as is. I think thats likely why you stuck at 87%, (the Wizard ran out of space).

I put in some registry settings I found, but nothing. I didn't flash the whole rom, just built a package with the files above and these registry settings
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimation]
"Enabled"=dword:1 ; 0 disable, else enable
"GIFFile"="\\Windows\\animation.gif" ; max length is 64
"WAVFile"="" ; max length is 64
"Volumn"=dword:0 ; the range is from 0 to 0x7F
As far as TouchFlow goes I found these settings
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\TouchFLO Settings]
"Group"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCCPL\Applet25]
"CmdLine"=""
"Name"="TouchFLO Settings"
"Path"="TFSettings.exe"
"Title"="TouchFLO"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\MASD]
"Biotouch"="3_2_5240711_0"
And these for QuickDial
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\MASD]
"QuickDial"="1_0_523713_0000"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickDial\Contacts]
"0"=dword:00000000
"1"=dword:00000000
"2"=dword:00000000
"3"=dword:00000000
"4"=dword:00000000
"5"=dword:00000000
"6"=dword:00000000
"7"=dword:00000000
"8"=dword:00000000
"9"=dword:00000000
I haven't found anything for the other files, but haven't looked terribly hard either.
*edit* for the startup animation entries, I noticed that they are put in in 2 different rgus, one being OEMOPPERATORS' rgu and the other OEMDRIVERS' rgu. The entries above I got from OEMDRIVERS, the OEMOPPERATORS' entries are
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimation]
"GIFFile"="\\windows\\animated.gif"
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
Obviously the same as the earlier entry minus the sound part.*edit*

Keep getting a certificate error with the rar and cab one floating around on the forums.
So far ported the dialpad plus comm manager (little issue left, need help on that one, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1306994&postcount=44) for the E-ten, the dialpad however seems to work on all devices even now :)
Anyways keep up the stuff, I'll try to port it to E-ten or other brands so everyone gets to use it :)

I really do have other things to do, but I can't let this one lay for any amount of time.
I'm gonna get drastic with the OS, because it's gotta be missed reg settings and incompatible/missing dll's and exe's. When that bio app attempts to run, it's not working because it could be because: is not installed correctly / does not have the correct settings / does not have enough supporting drivers or tools.
Are you guys starting with the 1413 build? I'd say this is a better place to start - because it's much closer to the touch release. I could be wrong, but logic tells me to use it.
So I'm gonna take and get the touch base OS to run, no apps installed, and build from there. If I can make any milestone, I'll post the software. I think trying to get the top application to work before the base might be part of the issue...

Btw is there a working Audio Manager?
Keep getting a certificate error with the rar and cab one floating around on the forums.
So far ported the dialpad plus comm manager (little issue left, need help on that one, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1306994&postcount=44) for the E-ten, the dialpad however seems to work on all devices even now :)
Anyways keep up the stuff, I'll try to port it to E-ten or other brands so everyone gets to use it :)
In addition to the cab, I entered these settings, along with all of the audiomanager and quickdial files:

This wont make a difference. All it is is your phone buttons pointing to which app it is set to run
Well then in that case we need to get the driver for the wizards hardware buttons, ButtonsExt.dll & ButtonsExt.dll.0409.mui maybe?

I really do have other things to do, but I can't let this one lay for any amount of time.
I'm gonna get drastic with the OS, because it's gotta be missed reg settings and incompatible/missing dll's and exe's. When that bio app attempts to run, it's not working because it could be because: is not installed correctly / does not have the correct settings / does not have enough supporting drivers or tools.

isnt the touchflo suppose to detect "skin." that is the new enhancement of the device? Well, our screen isnt meant to detect skin, so maybe the bio program wont work. Since it's for bio sensing

wouldn't suprise me, and a good observation. I noticed a "pressure" setting (something like 2700) in the registry. Hmmm...
Too bad there wasn't a way to override the "pressure" setting, and force the bio sense function... might make interaction a bit different than intended, but it's something to play with anyway.

hi guys,
forgive me if this sounds like i am hijacking but im not.
over at 4winmobile i have started a thread about porting the touch.dll to the hermes
Bepe and I have ported everything else and my ROM (black shadow) is an example, but biotouch wont work as it is dependant on the touch.dll in the elf.
we have all the oem apps split with rgu's, no need to bake it in to test it.
lets see if we can collaborate.... here is a direct link to the forum.

What's that quick dial thingie in the thread there?
Saw it in the dialpad cab floating aroud here earlier too, kept giving me errors so I got rid of it and now it's working fine on any wm6 phone.
As it's listed there does it work? Got no account there and I'm just not signing up for just that file.

Just a thought....but why don't you ask A_C , the creator of "Slide 2 UnLock" for assistance with this thing. Like i said...i don't have time right now to do it myself...but i am helping by providing ideas.
From what i understood the biotouch isn't starting at all ? or am i mistaken...
If so...i think you/we should analyze this thing methodically...
Why doesn't it start ?
* missing/corrupt files
* missing/invalid registry settings
* it's meant not to work with other devices...some kind of lock down
* worse case ... pure incompatibility
I suggested to ask A_C because he may know a thing or 2 about touch screens...
I suspect it's driver incompatibility associated with an registry error related to the touch screen sensibility.
Hopefully next days i will have more time to look into this. Till then...guys, try excluding possibilities above.
Good luck

I was wondering, in a demo I saw, the touchflow UI was invoked by touching the plastic beneath the LCD, and then with a finger gesture over the screen.
So could it be there is a proximity sensor (biosensor) just beneath the screen?
If that is true, we might have to patch the software so that a hardware button-click emulates the bio-sensor (for lack of better words)..

Yes, u have to click on the HTC logo to enable the bio sensor,
U bring a good point, we can just assign that bio sensor to any button we want, that should do the same job.

I think that is more in the direction we need to go. I noticed the same when the "biosensor" was pressed in the demo, it seemed like it was the trigger that activated the actual touchflow. Can we get a conformation of this? Or was the person holding the phone just exaggerating their actions?

after watching this video of some actual use of the touch
http://www.phonescoop.com/articles/htc_touch/
it definitely appears like the bio feature is dependent on size of the touch (ie finger versus stylus) and where you touch the screen (notice when he uses the cube program that he always clicks on the black edges of the screen)..
Best bet might be to map a button that would simulate the finger press to bring up the cube application... from there we could just as easily use the dpad to flip through it....

Just found these files in my "dump" folder:
animated.gif
animation.dll
StartupAnimationEngine.dll
------
Engine.dll
I put them onto my wizard and rebootet (after applying some registry values)
But when I restart the phone, nothing happens...
Anyone of the poeple who flashed the TOUCH ROM pleas look wheather the THIRD splashscreen is animated... (the htc thing)
Vi
I put in some registry settings I found, but nothing. I didn't flash the whole rom, just built a package with the files above and these registry settings
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimation]
"Enabled"=dword:1 ; 0 disable, else enable
"GIFFile"="\\Windows\\animation.gif" ; max length is 64
"WAVFile"="" ; max length is 64
"Volumn"=dword:0 ; the range is from 0 to 0x7F
"GIFFile"="\\windows\\animated.gif"
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
Obviously the same as the earlier entry minus the sound part.*edit*
I found out that there are references to StartupAnimationEngine.dll in:
HTCUtil.dll
Htc_Lib.dll
PLAYSND.dll (sound)
It seems that Htc_lib.dll does (a part of) the init , among others it starts the animation.
But I haven't found a way to start it..

just a thought...
I was looking at this particular entry in the registry... and what does it mean?
"FingerPressure"=dword:a8c
If, let us assume that there is no special screen that can actually differentiate between a tap by a stylus and a tap by your finger, then the game is being played entirely by the software...
which means, is this registry entry telling the software to check the radius of the touch on the screen? instead of the pressure?

im not an expert in drivers or touch screens but i have had desktop touch screens that reacted to input differently. one of those wasnt pressure sensitive but had an app that could sense how hard you were pressing on it by meassuring the the surface area around your finger. you see if you press your finger on the screen lightly ur fingertip flatens against it the softer or harder you press the more or less screen realestate your finger takes up. the point is i had alot of programming choices with a cheapo touch screen where i made a racecar game that you had to push a little harder to go faster so its not entirely impossible to get the touchflo cube and other touch goodies to work for us. that is if it is device driver related errors or just the way our ppc's touch screens are passing data to these .dll's. btw does anyone have a clue why the homeplug and audio manager wont run on a wm5 device. and why do some of the touch software give a certificate error when you try to run them? oh yea good point mirage22 i have seen touch screens on periphials that had a resistive touch screen overlayed on a capacitive touch screen that kinda gave you the benifits of both worlds plus it allowed multiple touches to occur at the same time so......

how does one write/draw something using a stylus on a touch screen. It is a continuous movement by the stylus that is recorded. Right?
Hence, the movement of a finger up or down, that activates scrolling is not multi-point. This is all software driven...

Not sure if I agree..... based on looking at videos, and reading up on reviews of people who have the phones... its been said that the screen feels spongy in comparison to a normal htc phone
my hypothesis....
First Guess
The hardware is different.... The screen on the on the Touch can detect the difference between just a stylus (ie a small area) and a finger (more importantly a large area pushing the screen) or instead of areas of the push, how hard you hard pushing thus the registry entries for pressure
For instance the scrolling in browser works like the iPhone when using your finger and pressing down... however when you use the stylus you can actually select text (ie the screen doesn't scroll)... The software is what distincts the difference between what is happening on the screen.
So if possible i think the focus would be on mapping one of the wizard buttons to to simulate a finger press instead of a stylus... perhaps holding the camera the voice button would activate the "touch" ability...
couple of people have suggested that the touch ability comes from the black surrounding, and that it activates the touch part... if true.. then idea of mapping this to a button would still be needed. However in watching videos of the touch, the scrolling function works without touching the black areas.
just my thoughts.... and I could be completely wrong... just really interested if we can mimic this on our wizards:D :D :D

The only part I am interested is the "Cube".
This could be run on other devices than the HTC Touch.
All of the other stuff like smart-scrolling is related to the screen (pressure and size of touched surface), this can't be incorporated.
To start up the Cube we need to mimic the bio-sensor by mapping a hardware key to it, using a program that will inject the right call to the touchflo UI.

The difference reception of stylus and finger is not a big problem...You could do that with our Wizard too...It's just a matter of determining a surface ..in pixels which could activate the biotouch (finger touch)
Our wizard has an similar option...it's used somewhat like an error free area...something like tolerance...I am pretty sure that this is not the actual problem here. Or ..i may be wrong

Got no idea how to extract the register, or where to find a dumped one, so maybe someone could take a look at it?
Any other programmes I'm not aware of worth extracting?

We need to port touch.dll cuz it contains aBiotouch inside which references to Biotouch.exe....
This is not that easy at all.

Nope, had the voice recorder, streaming media and camera working without that dll.
Put them there but it wasn't appriciated so removed them, they just needed a little bit of work.

Just to be sure, did you look really good, because the animation is really short.. the animation is before the grey picture with all the buildings show up.. it is a black picture and then HTC logo apears, after that the picture with the buildings which is not animated...

I'm not interested in that so I won't even try to even make it work.
The camera app seems not to work on both my qizard plus eten so I guess that's hardware related, which I can't fixm but might work on other htc models.
As far as I'm concerned everything that was worth porting/extracting has been ported, just a pity I can't fix the comm manager for my e-ten (main phone).

you would also need StartupAnimationEngine.dll, PLAYSND.dll, Engine.Dll,
and I believe it is started from HTC_lib.dll (using HtcUTIL.dll)

So mfrazzz, Zoki, Faria, the-equinoxe and all other pro's, i'm sure you guys can perform a miracle for us simple users/romflashers, hehe. Not pushing anything or anyone. Just showing my faith in the pro's that's all.

Hey you gotta try, with the right software we can all help out if only a little. I still wait for the "pros" as you say to figure things out, but I also try to understand things better since nobody is born knowing. Just a suggestion.

Somewhere earlier in this thread I posted a cab with the audiomanager I extracted, now I found a newer build.
build 409.721: song title scrolls

Can't find any other differences.
