what does this mean?

In Setting ---> Personal > Today > Tab: ITEM

there is something on the bottom that has a option to be checked or not

"Today timeout: 1 hr , 2, 4, 8, etc

what is the timeout for?

Also, if i set my device to turn off after "XXX" minute, how does it resume when i flip open the phone? Do i have to press on the power button? hold another button?

If you leave your device on say activesync for 1 hour and your today timeout is set to 1 hour then your device will return to the today screen.
