Hi guys,
My friends and me tried Black Shahow( black 4.0) today. It really got big memory as previous black version, free ROM 53M and RAM 30.4M, noticed that TOTAL RAM showing near 50M instead of 48M. The HTC home looks quite ok but for the weather panel the cities are limited for selection. THE BIGGEST BUG IS that sometime it CAN'T START PROPERLY and ALWAYS HANG during the re-starting period. You may need to reset it for several time just to start the phone.
Long time expectation but still encountered major bug.
Hope JJ can solve these bugs.

Perhaps this would be better off in the official thread? There was no need to start a new one.

Anyway, just FYI:
the original one was ok but jj added a file to fix HSDPA - this cuased a comflict with the current version of the ROM.
Apparently, if you disabled HSDPA things are better.
That's a workaround until jj releases a fixed ROM a bit later on.

No. For you maybe, but on my 8525 it's fast as hell and haven't had ANY problems or this "hang" problem either. The ROM is awesome!

I've run the rom also...I'm having no problems either. I experienced a hang during the install but after that I've been smooth and I'm HSDPA.

I tried it but it still doesn't work, previously i installed official wm5.0 rom / qtek 2.11.255.2. It works quite well and stable. Do anyone have idea how to fix the bug?

And then another one: 'Black Shadow Works So-So.'
Infact, everytime someone wants to say something, just start a New Thread.

Seriously, there is a Hermes fans chatting room. In the chatting room, it is complainted as well that they got same experience as me. There is one similarity that we performed complete flash using Qtek 2.11.255.2 before updating to Black Shadow (4.0). I am thinking if there are conflictions between Black Shadow and Qtek latest WM5.0 ROM. However, we don't experience such bugs using Black Diamond which i regarded it as more stable one and faster than Shadow and some other cooked roms. Unfortunately, i can't access 4winmobile.com and can't comment this to JJ.
Should JJ read this may he give us a solution.
Anyhow, thanks for his great works and best regards.

Hi, i just downloaded and tried the shadow.rar. After flashed it is still the same, can't start properly. Is it possible because of Radio? Someone with radio 1.38 told me his phone working well. By the way, i installed CE-star.

ey, works great for me with 1.38 right now...so seems your issues aren't related to Radio version.
Try without CE-star (perhaps not compatible), and post results.

I find it thoroughly ammusing! all these posts dissing the rom creator and booing if the f**k up the install or the rom isn't perfect! when will you guys realise that we are in the thick of beta land! everything is a gamble! you don't put your head in the ovan just because someone else did and got away with it!
i'm pretty new to this rom business and only tried a few. I bitched once but then came to my stark realisation. IT'S ALWAYS A GAMBLE! read the notes that come with the rom!
these guys are clued up enough to work at M$ (or Apple. imagine mobile OSX on a tytn!).
I think you guys need to chill and take it as it comes! that's the deal!
that's my 2 pence worth anyway!

I think all of you that bitch about this or that don't work should STFU and learn how to cook a Fcken ROM and fix the problem yourself after all is this not Xda DEVS? you know what DEVS stands for? well if you don't you probably shouldn't be here flashing roms... but wait its the cool thing to do right? I wish there was no SPLv7 and all you hofo's bricked your hermes trying to be something your not... this post is a waste of space as well as most of the members of this forum that come here for only the reason to get WM6 and make no effort to help the community! name one thing you have done for Xda? name one rom you cooked or recooked? that's what I thought so next time you want to bitch this don't work try fuken fixing it first

I hope not. This ROM is really great. The most stable I've used yet, but then again [laughing anticipated], it's only the second one I've used! lol. My first was Black 1.2, and never saw a need to upgrade cause it was very stable and I liked the look of it. This one is indeed a step above, and though I've been looking at some other nice ones, I think until I get the Kaiser I'll be happy with this one. It's a shame people need to bash a guy that does so much for people, but that's the world we live in. Hopefully this thread stays open, the people screwing it up with bullshit can have a temp ban, and they clean-up the BS messages. It's fine to be a critic, but to take personal shots? Are they necessary?

I've actually looked through both of the threads for Black Shadow...but I don't quite see the point yet and maybe I'm missing something.
So this is a port of the Elf ROM. But since our Hermes don't have the necessary capability for touch interface, so only thing new really is the today plug in.... is that right? Is there any other updates in the OS / Bluetooth / Wifi that makes it worthwhile for the upgrade?
The Today plug-in looks like a black version of Spb Mobile Shell. I had to stop using Mobile Shell as it was just unstable on my phone...I only have PocketWeather installed now. Maybe HTC's version is more stable and better...but it looks like it takes soooo much screen real estate~
For the people who have it installed and is working well on their phone...do you find it more useful? Or is that not a measurable factor? :-D

I find it very useful. I wasn't expecting TouchFlo, since our screens aren't even capable of handling it, but the Today plugin in itself is worth it. Now I have weather, a larger clock to glance at, SMS, email, and missed calls all in one plugin that is VERY stable and which took the place of WAD. As far as the rest of the ROM? Very nice. Lots of extra memory, and the choice of what to cook inside was great. It's a very stable ROM, and I haven't had any of the problems others have reported, so all I have is good things to say. The only soft resets I've done were due to 3rd party apps that required it. Besides that I wonder if I'll have to SR at all. :)

:o First of all, i personally, very much appreciated JJ's great efforts of working Black series ROM. I used black 3.0 and diamond for quite long time, and in fact i always recommend these Black ROMs to my friends, the members of hermes rom chatting room with more than 150 members.
Second, my purpose of posting the bugs here is to share the problems and looking forward to possible solutions.

.... I agree in part here, but the whole point of releasing a ROM in a public forum is to solicit constructive feedback on ones endeavours. There are always going to be negatives.
Personally I have been running this ROM for 3 days now and have a couple of bug bares (which seem to have been fixed reading through the other forums, thanks jj).
I do not believe however that criticism should be dismissed, and the DEV-police come knocking on your door with a shitty stick! Grow the f*ck up.
DEVs we may be, but people who join and contribute to this forum have just as much right to spurt their $0.02.
Take it on the chin as we all do, and quite your elitest "I'm better than you, but haven't been laid in years" nagging.

I was just getting ready to post my off-topic $.02 in the original black shadow thread but it seems to fit more here (think about that  ). When JJ first left to go elsewhere I was upset. But after his last two releases, I was more or less releived to see that all of the n00bs had taken their black issues and dumb questions to 4winmob, releiving us of the clutter. I hope I havent spoke too soon.

My £0.02
I have tried just about all the roms offered herein, and of course, those offered elsewhere.
I use exactly the same set of apps with each one.
For me, Black Shadow has performed the worst of all. In 24 hours had to reset 6 times, screen was going corrupt, bluetooth connectivity was up the swanny.
But as I say, that was for me, my own personal experience with the many many apps I have installed. No doubt the rom works as a blinder for others.
I think the lesson here is give it a go, with the config and apps you use, and you can choose to persist and try and resolve issues you have (which may have been possible in my case), or try another rom.
Its just FANTASTIC to have sooo much choice, and thanks to all chefs, inc JJ, for that.

I have used all the blacks since 2.0. The 2.5 being the best and fastest. The Dymond and the Shadow have to many issues with my cingy 8525. I am running NBD 7.1 on my Wizard 8125 and have had not one problem. I guess I will waite and see what Custals 3.0 has as I am now back to his 2.5 which works great.

Myself and my colleague have both zapped Shadow onto our Orange M3100 devices and both have found it to be very stable, no lockups and used as main work phone all day long with MS Exchange pushmail. Bluetooth has been rock solid with my carkit as well.... so far so good as opposed to Black Dymond which my device hated and frequently locked.
