I created this Cab originally for myself and I have had some requests for it so here it is. If there are any issues please direct them here and I will look into them.

If people are interested I will soon include a cab with the MMS at default 600k, let me know.

Before Installing cab make sure that you delete your old settings first!
Enjoy!

New Cab for VPN users, settings from mangopudding (http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=491043). I don't use these settings, just made the changes from the settings provided.

The new vision stuff isn't on here, the guy that was doing the testing for that for me went on vacation for a month so I haven't been able to finish that off.

I will keep looking into though.

If you have the base settings or anybody else pm me with them, I will get it done sooner that way.

Have you manually gone in to look at the settings?

If you have let me know what the differences are from what you entered manually, It is possible that the MMS settings didn't completly override the old settings.

ok do forgive for the little naivety that will be displayed...i check in connections and everything is supposedly set up correctly according to the stettings you had written before you made the cab...i also setup the server when i'm gettin ready to send a mms message...just so you know i'm using the new black shadow rom with radio 1.43 is there somewhere else i'm suppose to make changes...when i go to manage existing connections, do i have to setup anything under proxy settings

No leave the proxy settings alone.

Go to messages, SMS/MMS (forgot you had Shadow running), options, click on MMS, and then the servers tab at the bottom, you should only see one thing there highlighted "Rogers MMS"

If you don't let me know. Or if there is 2 different ones there tell me what they are.

Here's a long shot but have you went to send and receive.

Doesn't make any sense?

I had to try myself on the 17745 build, I sent a message to myself and I received no problem.

Is the problem on the other sending end, send one to yourself, make sure that you put in the number like this 9995554444, no prefix and you have to have the area code in there which in my example is "999".

Sorry that I am writing all this out but there are people out there that don't know this and I am making sure that I am being very clear.

Hard reset works to.

I guess you don't want to waste time.

I am at work, but the PC is on, I usually get the messages fast so I will get you through this.

Once you are up and running install the cab file, no need to hard reset, then send yourself a MMS, look at my previous post. tell me if you get it, you will probably get a screen saying that a download is there, click download anyway.

if i'm not mistaken i was able to send it on the wm5 but think the problem occurred when flashed to wm6...i've only been using black roms so far, there was one time when send/recieve was highlighted but i use to get error synchronizing back then asi notice some people did also but now its just not highlighted at all...other than that no problems

Right now all that I can suggest is to try and manually install the MMS, go to the settings and delete the MMS Rogers that is there and make a new one, you shouldn't have to change the connection settings, and see if send and receive will highlight.

I will try and come up with some answers also, doesn't make sense. When I had Shadow flashed I didn't try the MMS. If it continues to be a problem I will flash Shadow again and see if I am having the same problems. I won't be able to get to that until tomorrow night though.

I will do my what I can to help you out.

I am currently using Shadow and I have no trouble sending or receiving MMS messages with the same cab file.

The send and receive will stay greyed out until there is something in the Inbox to send, when there is something there you will be able to see the send/receive button highlighted. Other than that I have no idea what might be wrong.

i'm always glad for contributions to the community. :P

but the file "cannot be installed"

... for some reason.

phone is Cingular 3100, i app unlocked it (i believe it worked), and it was pre-SIM unlocked...

should i CID unlock it before applying the cab? 'coz i have no idea wtf is wrong.

else, show me a list of registry keys/values to put in, and i can do it manually (lots of work but well worth it)

I think i have it sorted... just working on making the differentiation between Internet, Work, MMS and GPRS (Web)...

registry hacking :)

Here are the settings for Rogers if you want to manually apply them, they are identical to what are in the cab file.

Rogers CANADA

GPRS Settings

1. Operator Name & Country : Rogers Canada
2. Network Name : MY ISP
(Name in the Connections Tab)
3. Modem Name :ROGERS GPRS
4. Modem Access Point Name :internet.com
5. Username :wapuser1
6. Password :wap
7. Domain :””
8. Is there a tick in the 'This network connects to the Internet' box :
NO
9. Is there a tick in the 'This network uses a proxy server' box :
NO

MMS Settings

2. Network Name : MY Work Settings
(Name in the Connections Tab)
3. Modem Name :ROGERS MMS
4. Modem Access Point Name :media.com
5. Username :media
6. Password :mda01
7. Domain :””
8. Is there a tick in the 'This network connects to the Internet' box :
NO
9. Is there a tick in the 'This network uses a proxy server' box :
NO

1. Server Name :Rogers MMS
2. Gateway :172.25.0.107
3. Port Number : 8080
4. Server Address : http://mms.gprs.rogers.com
5. Connect Via : My Work settings

I don't know much about that phone but these are the settings for you.

Just looked up your phone, I found the big difference, it's a smart phone, I am not sure how to apply this cab for your phone, I am guessing that it won't work for a smart phone, the settings should be the same though so you can manually input them, Rogers settings are universal.

yeah, smartphones can be a PITA. definately the PPC Phones do have an upper hand with the digitizer.

but i like this phone so far... my only problem is that i can't get "work" to set to "Rogers MMS", it won't change from "automatic"...

the workaround is that i set Internet to Rogers MMS and sacrifice browsing for MMS service.
(for both options i'm obviously changing the "Connect via" in the MMSC menu)

any tips on how i could get the default "Work" connection method to play ball?

Unfortunately I can't help you with that, I have no idea about smart phones or there registry structure, I see that your already browsing Star Tek for some answers, maybe you will be able to get someone there to give you a hand, Sorry I would help if I could. The settings that I gave you are what you need though. I just have no idea where you would start to apply them, PPC and SP are very different. Good Luck.

alright. no problem.

all the settings are right, i just have to figure out the details on how to make them work with eachother.

so far, i've sent MMS, browsed the internet, but i've had to change settings in between. i can't do one, or the other without changing the default Internet connection.

the GPRS Settings work, and all i need to do is to be able to change the "Work" default to "Rogers MMS"... i'll ask in the StrTrk forum. see if anyone there can help me.

thanks for the settings, and a little insight on where to put what.
:)

Try this... take your SIM and place it in a phone that can receive MMS on Rogers. Send yourself one and receive it.

Then put your SIM back into your phone and send yourself a MMS.

Probably will work now... there are a lot of threads on Howard about problems like this.

Let us know if it works!

Hi,

I installed Lurch's Rogers cab in my device and it works very well while I am in Canada (Rogers network). Unfortunately as soon as I travel to the US it no longer works.

The device attempts to connect to the GPRS network, but the attempt fails. I tried on both 3G and 2G networks (T-Mobile 2G and Cingular 2G and 3G) and I got the same result:

"Cannot connect for and unknown reason. To check you connection setting and change them if needed tap..."

I also changed the configuration manually using "Goam.com" instead of "internet.com" as APN, as this worked in the past but I still got the same problem.

This is my dev info:

ROM Version: CUSTEL v2.5
ROM date: 04/17/07
Radio version: 1.40.30.00
Protocol version: 32.73.7020.16H

Help would be very much appreciated.

I am roaming in the US (Phili area). I tried to access data services for the past two days with no luck. All of a sudden, around 22:00 EST I was able to do it without changing any setting. The only difference is that I tried to access data services by downloading my hotmail mail rather than through PIE. Once I was able to download my mail, all other application were able to access internet services.

I don't know what happened, but I hope it remains functional from now on.

Thanks

Hi Lurch,

Thanks for the Rogers Cab. It works great!

I was wondering if it's possible to add a new profile to the Rogers cab for the vpn feature - perhaps call it Rogers VPN.

APN: vpn.com
User Name: wapuser1
Password: wapuser

I tried using the vpn feature on my X01HT - but Rogers requires the APN to be vpn.com instead of internet.com.

Thanks for this Lurch.

I am about to upgrade but wanted to confirm a couple things. I have done a ton of reading and there's lots of info but not a lot from people using Rogers it would seem.

1)I have a Tytn and there is a post in Howard Forums that says the CID locking that Rogers does can be problematic. Anyone have experiences upgrading a Rogers Tytn?

2)I don't see an original Rogers ROM in the shipped ROM downloads section. And from what I understand there is no way to back up what I have and go back to the Rogers ROM. Can I assume that this is a one way street that will void my warranty with no way to go back then?

Thanks.

PS. Sorry for piggybacking on your thread Lurch but it seems like this is the only(best) way to find Rogers Users with wm6.

As of yet nobody has dumped a Rogers ROM so yes it will void the warranty until ROGERS puts out an update. Once there is an update you will be able to switch back to that ROM for warranty purposes.
I haven't heard of anyone having troubles with unlocking a hermes (TYTN), if you do run into any problems with that use Pof's thread about the V3 unlocker for Hermes to get answers.

Good evening Lurch3559!

Thank you for sharing this file.

However, I am quite unsure as to what I should do. I have manually set up the settings but unfortunately, its not working for me. I have been trying to send MMS via my unit but somehow, I am unable to do so. It would always say "check settings" or something to that effect.

So I decided to delete all my settings for the MMS and GPRS and install this cab file that you are sharing with us. Can you tell me how to install this cab file? I mean, step by step please? Where do I paste it? Do I have to run anything? I'm quite new to the PPC software and so I'm quite unsure as to what to do. I just want to be able to send MMS via my cell phone, an HTC Tytn. I am with the Rogers network and my Tytn is an UNLOCKED GSM version

Would appreciate your help. If anyone can help me out aside from the original poster, I would appreciate it as well. Thank you very much.

Save the cab file to a memory card or to MyDocuments on your phone, then click it. Thats it.

Quick question Lurch - I'm using your cab file on a fresh WM6 (official) install on my Hermes, and whenever someone leaves me a voicemail I get both a voicemail warning and a txt message telling me I have voicemail.

Is this something with Rogers or the phone/os? I know your settings file deals with the data side of the carrier settings but if this is a phone/os related issue it would be awesome if it was possible to address it in the cab too! :)

Thanks for your cab btw - simplified my many, many hard resets and flashes. :D

This is due to Rogers, they send a text message when you have voice mail.

Regards

- Mangopudding.
VPN cab posted, changes that were made to the cab file only included what was given.

have you had some time to make that Fido cab yet?

Thanks :)

Hi Lurch...

Thanks :)
I have looked at the settings, they are much different than most, having an alternate GPRS and having the primary GPRS through WAP. This is the main reason I haven't touched it yet. As life slows down I will revisit the Fido cab but for now things are just to busy to be spending a ton of time figuring it out. I haven't forgotten about it, just haven't had the time to dedicate to it. Sorry.

So any phone can use Rogers Vision... provided you have the correct network settings? I thought it was Rogers Vision "phone" specific.

Does this cab include HSDPA support?

Save the cab file to a memory card or to MyDocuments on your phone, then click it. Thats it.

Thank you very much. Will try it out.

hey Lurch,

I got a HTC Wing (a.k.a. Harald/P4350) and i tried downloading/installing the cab files you got for Rogers, thanks for those btw. But nothing seems to work, i try sending an MMS to both myself and other ppl and no go. I have also tried asking ppl to send them to me and i got nothing. The odd time i would get a msg stating someting like "The download has expired, please select one of the following" or something and the options are "download anyway, permanently delete, and another one i cant remember". I have selected download anyway and i dont think i got anything. I looked in the MMS options and MMS rogers is there.

Your help would be greatly appreciated! thank you!

Have you tried to log-on the Rogers Pic Messaging site? https://www.picturemessaging.rogers.com/login.do

See if your pics are showing up your online album?

If they are - then you need to call Rogers and pretend you are using a supported phone and tell them MMS is not working... they'll escalate it and some Level 2 tech with reset something on your profile and it'll work.

Just another thing tho. Im new to this whole WM6 stuff, and once i got the GPRS and VPN stuff set up. I get some random times where that stupid GPRS notice shows for like a split second for about 2-3 times in a row... it gets somewhat annoying. I dont understand why it is doing so when there is no need to access the internet. But i did install BS, could that be sending info back and forth? thanks.

4mb pagepool is great for speed and increased program memory, the sacrifice is if you are running large programs there is less memory to pull from and you might find the programs to actually run slower. So for bigger programs the increased pagepool to 6mb may be better for you. The best thing to do is to try both and see what works for you the best.

Ohhh! makes sense! So by having it at the default 12MB, bigger programs can run but in general the device would run a lot slower... I think i got it now. Thanks a lot Lurch. Ur a great help!

I created this Cab originally for myself and I have had some requests for it so here it is. If there are any issues please direct them here and I will look into them.

Fantastic! I used the Roger's CAB on my brand new unlocked Motorola Q9h and I now have full Internet access. I had already moved my SIM card to the Q and so the phone and all other programs worked, just not the Internet. I have no idea what all the technical chatter means but I sure am glad I found your group!!:) :)

Hey Lurch3559

Quick question for you, as we are both on Rogers. I find my Hermes with 1.51 radio that while it works fine with 3G, if it finds a stronger Edge signal it will hold onto that. The problem is, it does not re-search for a 3G signal after unless I reboot.

Any thoughts?

sirtrini
7th September 2007, 05:12 PM
The issue isn't with the cab.

As of today Rogers is only pushing 3G on the 1900 band. As you know Rogers uses both 850 and 1900.

850 penetrates better - so when the phone realizes the 850 is stronger it locks on to it. Hence EDGE only. When Rogers rolls out 3G on 850 the problem will go away.

You're probably in a fringe coverage area. In Brampton I have that issue where I get a stronger 850 than 1900. But downtown TO I usually can hold onto 3G very well.

There is a CAB floating around that you can install to force the phone onto 3G only and control when to go back to normal. You can also do this in the phone settings panel if you have the right registry changes to allow seeing that tab.

Hope that helps!

quick question please.

I've never subscribed to a data plan ... ( Rogers Canada ... Waterloo region ... which borderline on 3G sometimes ... 3G is available in the "GOLDEN HORSESHOE" area )

I went after the CAB file aiming mainly on the MMS/SMS thing.

now after installing the CAB ... I can surf the internet via EDGE ...etc

could anyone answer me on the data rate cost as in :

1/ I've never subscribed to a data plan ...

2/ compared to as in when a person DOES have a data plan ??

P.S ... I tend to stay away from these data plan as much as possible and only use wifi, as these thing could produce a surprisingly whopping bill !!!

Anyone find a better cost/data alternative compare to the pic below ?? Rogers site is confusing/misleading sometimes when it come to more bang for your bucks solution.

If a person was to do multimedia browsing ... atleast +200MB/month might be needed ... BUT at a cost of $100 or more ???

Thanks for answering ;)

I've got a Data plan myself and i never go over 5MB/month. If your going to want to use the internet for multimedia reasons, your going to have to pay the price for it... in the end, you get what u pay for. Sorry dude, i know it sucks.

I got a better idea !! :D

I "could" get the "portable internet" option for 30 GB a month ...

since I have a power converter & one of those winter emergency booster box with AC plugs, I could hook it up to my car and run a router from there ...A fully charge emergency booster box will last all day+ more... LMAO !!! :D

30GB for under CDN $50 ... since, when I'm out and about, I'm never too far from my car anyway...LMAO !! :p

That's not such a bad idea if I could round up a bunch of co-workers to split the cost at work too ...hahahahah ... we'll have our own encrypted network !! :D

Have you been able to make these setting work on a smartphone running WM6 on the Rogers network? I can't seem to get it to work.

Also, I know it's not your job, but if I am able to obtain the settings needed for Vodafone, Dublin, Ireland, would you be able to create a CAB file to load the setting to my windows mobile 6 smartphone? I am using an unlocked Samsung BlackJack both in Canada and in Ireland.

if you do not have a data plan of any sort, and you access the internet on a pay-per-use bases... then your looking at a charge of $0.05/KB... which is EXPANSIVE! a web page is usualy between 15-30KB, so do the math ;) what I do recomend is the $5 Navigate plan, gets you 5 MB of internet browsing and each additional KB is only $0.03/KB rather then $0.05/KB... for 5MB... $5 is nothing! saved my a** a lot of times.

I am having a beast of a time, maybe someone can shed some light:

I was able to manually enter the rogers info and get it up and running with my existing sim in the new tytn ii, well and dandy (though i am about to use the cab today)

you gotta be kidding me, 200MB is not small? for todays standards 200 is small. even bell & telus at least give $100 plan for 1GB of data. or how about in the US with AT&T having plans around $40 for unlimited data?

i think what we need is apple to push rogers and use the iphone to convince them of making some decent data plans.

For TODAY'S standards, 200MB is huge! hence why rogers still doesn't have a 1GB plan and why the 1GB plans with telus and bell are 100$. We just upgraded our 5$ of 5MB plan to 10 for 10 and thats considered a lot where I work, maybe not to u. And you can NEVER compare the US plans to ours, for $30/month they get the world (due to competition), with us $30/month gets u 150mins with eve at 9pm if ur lucky... nothing else. Rogers will definitaly come out with the iPhone.. sometime... no one knows really when... but eventually plans will get cheaper and bigger...

come on man. fine, dont compare it to the US, but what about the rest of the world? data here is a JOKE compared to the rest of the world. fine, the little 5MB or 10MB is cool. but with these new win mobile devices, and keeping people sync'd with exchange, theyll go over 10MB in a day easily.

even if 200MB is huge, its $100. i cant remember who added the 1GB first, bell or telus, but soon after the other matched it. i'm sure rogers will prob match their $100 plan to 1GB like the others soon enough.

i agree with you about the plans.. i cant believe the evenings thing is at 9pm now. i remember not even 10 years ago the standard was 6pm no? anyway, if you can, gotta jump into one of those 'corporate' type plans

.... just noticed, bell's 1GB plan is $60, and now there's a $75 plan giving unlimited data. time for rogers to hopefully catch up

A Moto RIZR Z3 is *NOT* a Windows Mobile device....therefore the .cab file being discussed in this thread will not work with your phone under any circumstances.

As has been pointed out to you, USE GOOGLE and look elsewhere!!

You don't take your car to a dentist to fix, so why would you ask about a NON-Windows Mobile phone, in a WM forum???

Lurch, I don't suppose you can modify the CAB to function for PPC2003?

It'd be helpful to some.

Thanks.

Man - there are alot of helpful & friendly people out there trying to help the less wizard-ly! (I am grateful, believe me) And -- like others have said -- I try to search, and research, and readreadread before reaching out. And I've trawled through about 70 pages of posts...in various threads in various forums. So I'm either blind, or simply SOL, but I can't find the right combination of:

HTC/Cing 8125

+

Rogers ATT Canada

+

EDGE 'net (not interested in MMS)

When WiFi is not available, I'd still like to be able to get on the 'net now & then. I have data access activated down at RATT HQ, and I can do it via $/kb on any of my older phones. But I just can't figure out where to insert the settings in THIS phone!

I've tried every combination I can think of with goam, internet, vpn, wapuser1, wap, wapuser, IP numbers, no IP numbers, http, no http, MyWork Network, My ISP, Proxy, no Proxy... Egad!

Fwiw, I don't want to push anything. I don't want to access a POP3 account. I don't wish I could video-conference. I just want to be able to access the www with the phone -- by itself -- now & then. Briefly.

The phone is working well in other respects; it's a G4 for sure, it's been unlocked, and flashed to an XDA WM6 cooked by mfrazzz. WiFi, camera, in/out calls, BT, A2DP, texting, ActiveSync all work fine.

I know it's something simple. Please?

Hi all, thanks for all your help Lurch,

I'm also on Rogers here in Quebec.
Recently started using data features of my TyTN (great gadget), purchased through Rogers (super rip off, crappy CS and Tech Support). Thankfully, these posts provide at least one spot that the settings are easily obtained... Rogers makes it a huge challenge.

Lurch, and anybody else on Rogers service, I am on the 5 MB / $5 plan - APN = internet.com. Using push email with a microsoft exchange server... works like a charm... I am getting an uneasy feeling in my stomach about what my bill will look like...

1) Once and for all... is there a difference between the 5MB/$5 + 10MB/$10 plans and the "data plans" hidden in the business section of their website (i.e 2MB for $15)?
2) Do the cost effective plans require access through the goam.net APN?
3) My bill should be arriving soon, should I preemptively purchase a defibrillator?

Thanks.
Please redirect me if it is felt this is in the wrong forum.

If your thinking about adding 5MB plan and 10MB plan together to get 15MB, thats impossible, the system wouldn't even let them add 2 data packages on the account. The pckg for 2MB for 15$ is most likely for RIM(blackberry) users. goam.net or internet.com will lead you all to the same place, one way or another, your still going to have to use data to access the account, check for changes, delete msgs, send msgs and download msgs to your PPC. Those are the steps the microsoft push uses, and thats why a 1KB email will be about 150KB just to get it on to your PPC.
And finally, with a 5MB plan, I do believe you should really invest in a defibrillator specially for INSTANT push set up. I've got 10MB and i have it set for every Hour to sync and i had to shut it off about half way through my month cuz I already reached my limit.

Heres some good advice, download Batterystatus, the newest build, and you can set it up to count your data usage. Thats what I have set up on my tmo Wing, works like a charm.

I have Spb GPRS monitor tracking my connection. Doesn't seem to use more than 50kB per day with push on and delivering as mail arrives...

Was never planning to combine the data plans, I just wanted to know if the 5MB plan is actually buying 5MB of data, or is it just for crappy Rogers WAP and Yahoo mail service.

hmm thats odd, your probably using different mail servers then I am. I was connecting to my hotmail account via windows live and it destroys my data. As far as rogers data plans go, if it says 5MB of data, its actually 5MB of DATA usage, whether its surfing the net or sending/receiving emails, its included.

What email servers are you connecting to? and how many emails would you say u get a day? i get anywhere between 3-7 emails a day.

Um...can anyone please provide the info I requested? The more discussion there is about e-mail and browsing etc., the more I am feeling left out [since I can't get the EDGE to work!]

I realize there is a .cab file for RAT&T settings, but there're 2 things that make me a little apprehensive about using it:

1) There seems to be a little uncertainty about whether it will work for my model of phone.
2) It seems focussed primarily on messaging and e-mail etc. when all I want is the 'net. And I'd like to be able to plug my laptop into the phone now & then and use the phone as a modem like I've done with my older phones.

Many thanks!

Alright - I'll try it. Meanwhile...

...a friend asked me to help him with the initial set-up on an unlocked N95-3. (We're both in the Toronto Canada area on R-AT&T) Incredibly, as soon as we stuck in his SIMcard, the phone automatically queried the carrier and downloaded & installed all of the appropriate settings by itself!! Wow!! MMS, SMS, Internet, 3G, everything was working in less than a minute. And with no confusing parameters to be input by the user! That's the way these issues should go; power up, auto-configure, and go. All I had to do was enter his [web-based] e-mail address (well...I didn't HAVE to, but did it anyway).

What strange, magical powers does this phone have that enables it to do this wondrous thing? More importantly...is there such a .cab file or utility that would make this a reality for other unlocked phones? That'd be sweet.

Well...I installed the Lurch RAT&T [settings] cab, and -- while it did obviously introduce a handful of information -- it did NOT allow me to connect to EDGE. So I took the plunge and called RAT&T. After the inevitable & endless prompts, and the 2 or 3 'you've-reached-the-wrong-department-I'll-transfer-your-call' hassles...I ended up with Dave, who dictated the same couple of settings I've already tried 71 times. When that didn't work he told me that a hard reset often fixes problems like this. So I let him go, saved my stuff, and did the hard reset.

After that I entered those same couple of basic settings that have failed all along, and it connected right away. Go figure. Now - when EDGE is active, I get a tiny 'E' above and to the right of the larger 'E' that I've always had in the title bar. (Which I had thought all this time was the EDGE active icon)

So. Many thanks to those that offered help, and it's on to the next issue; shall I enter the MMS parameters? And if so, why might I need them?

Merry Christmas!

Its Funny, Ronemca

I just did a new ROM install (TNT SE) and once it was done, I put in the cab, and I could use Edge/3G, MMS, etc.

I'm not too sure what you are doing or even on what device

ronemca
20th December 2007, 12:54 PM
It's an unlocked Cingular 8125 that I had flashed up to WM6 with a ROM cooked by mfrazzz. I never plan to use it for e-mailing, and I can't afford the data rates from Rogers for Internet access (so I only open the browser when I'm on WiFi) but every once in a while I wish I could get online briefly when EDGE is the only service around. And up 'til yesterday the device steadfastly refused to connect despite my endless attempts to enter the settings. I had no reason to think it was misbehaving, or that there was an anomaly within the OS, but obviously there was...because the hard reset fixed the problem!

Hmmm. 3G, eh? That'd be nice, but I believe this device is not capable. It is definitely a G4, tho.

* 12/20 EDIT**
This morning the phone basically had a fit, and kept telling me that there is no BT hardware installed on my device. Several hard resets were required before it "came back to life" and resumed normal operation. I've since re-paired my headset, my HT820 headphones, and my BT stereo adapter without incident. Very curious. Oh - and I've re-entered the EDGE settings, and it works as well. <shrug>

Cheers!

So I just got my bill from Rogers, and it only listed the first week and a half of my usage... Was able to use about 1.5MB using push email over about 10 days... Admitedly I was playing around with it a lot and doewnloaded a couple of small cabs...

For anybody interested - I can now confirm with certainty that if you add a $5/10 for 5/10 MB mobile internet plan to your service, it will work with APN = internet.com and allows you to use whatever internet/email you want... There does not seem to be a reason to sign up for the $15 for 2 MB data plan... As is written all over xda-dev forums "data is data is data".

Since my last posting I have done the following twice.

Even though I did have the EDGE working, I decided to carry on and configure the MMS. So I removed the EDGE connection settings, and installed the Lurch cab. The phone begins misbehaving in a serious way after that. It's sluggish as hell, and when I attempt to connect the EDGE (no app's running - just choose "connect" from the options) it just sits there. No message - no progress - nothing. (Note that - before Lurchcab, this worked instantly) IE also hangs when I try to navigate to any address other than the locally stored start page.

So I soft-reset and try again. Same thing. After another soft reset I delete the Rogers internet connection and soft reset. Still sluggish, still locks up IE. I try MMS; no send. No progress - no error messages - nothing. The app hangs.

So...hard reset. Reload all my favorites, run the restore for app'ts. etc., and once everything is set & running normally...create a new ISP connection using the same old parameters. Works perfectly & instantly. I am connected to the EDGE network, and I get the tiny "E" above the larger "E" on the toolbar. IE opens and runs normally, connects in the traditional manner.

So...this is monumentally frustrating. I can live without MMS, but it REALLY REALLY bugs me that I can't make it work. I feel that -- since I don't even care about push e-mail, and VPN's, and connecting at work -- I should be able to at least send someone a flippin' picture that I just snapped with my phone! Grrr!

lcohen999
23rd December 2007, 06:49 PM
Try a hard reset.

Load the CAB and NOTHING ELSE!!

See what happens. Again, there are 13 pages and most people who load this CAB properly have no problems. So odds are (no offence) there is something you are doing wrong, or there is something with your phone.

Again, HARD reset, load cab, try to browse. Then start loading stuff from scratch.

ronemca
23rd December 2007, 07:36 PM
No offence taken. I'm old enough -- and have seen enough strange stuff from electronics -- to accept the possibility that it IS the phone. (Although my money's on the operator.) :o

Each time I hard reset I feel less frantic about the whole process, and it's worth noting that I don't have any extra stuff installed anyway. (So it's not really that big a deal) Plus I'm damn good with PC's, so I know the importance of data backup and disaster-recovery...so I have my little handful of ringtones and favorites etc. nice and safe.

I'll try it your way soon; right now I hafta go shopping with the missus.

Stay tuned!

ronemca
24th December 2007, 03:11 AM
Okay - in brief...it worked.

Hard reset, install the Lurchcab, EDGE and MMS worked first time. (Thank you!!) Restored faves and set personal environment stuff...so far so good.

More to come, but for now...sleep. :)
Addendum:
Since I just know there are hundreds of people hanging on my every word...
What is the ALT-Tab equivalent on this device? Or the minimize-but-leave-running? I often find that when I have a window open I wish I could look at something else for a moment, and it's ponderous to drill down through Start/Settings/Connections/Connections/(whatever) or Start/Programs/Accessories/(whatever). Is there a better way?

Merry Christmas!!

The new vision stuff isn't on here, the guy that was doing the testing for that for me went on vacation for a month so I haven't been able to finish that off.

I will keep looking into though.

If you have the base settings or anybody else pm me with them, I will get it done sooner that way.

Hi, I have a Samsung BlackJack running WM6. I used the CAB and it created the Rogers Internet and MMS Rogers pieces under the GPRS. It did not however create the MMS settings in the MMS Profiles section. Can someone tell me what the settings are?

Also, has anyone running WM6 ever been able to actually picture message? I have never been able to, and was told by Rogers 1 year ago, they have issues. Not sure if this was ever corrected and I just am not up to speed.

Hey,

I was just wondering if this is considered a "WAP" connection. I have been using a "5mb Cell phone plan" flawlessly with no per/kb charges ever on my previouse bills. I just upgraded to the "Unlimited cell phone plan" (that I think is the same type of plan execpt unlimited) and was wondering if it will continue to behave like the 5mb plan or if it will charge me for this.

Since it didn't charge me for the 5mb then i am assuming that it wont charge me for the unlimited wap plan right? I know the lurch uses wap login and password and I am confused weither or not it was made just for this reason (to use for "wap usage" rather than "data usage"). Thanks!

I think I just answered my own question... From the looks of things these "lurch settings" are in other words WAP settings for Rogers that use the internet.com. So by upgrading from a 5mb wap pack to unlimited wap pack should not put any changed on my bill other then overage charges :D. Or am I wrong? Any advise or recomendations about this issue would be great!

Question: Does MMS require a data plan?

I have a Cingular 8525 running Pays_WWE_305_Final_Full (WM6.1)

I loaded the cab (apparently successfully), but still can't receive MMS (pictures)

I don't know where all the settings are (to enter manually)

For those of you that require "search credentials", I did search with the following criteria...

"Data Plan" MMS
"Data Plan" MMS Rogers
"Error Synchronizing" MMS
"Error Synchronizing" MMS Rogers
"Rogers MMS"
cingular 8525 mms settings

I read a lot of cached google pages, and was still unable to find any related info.

(ok... now the next poster will tell me he/she found the result at the top of the page... first search... just my luck)

any help would be uh.... helpful

Hi Lurch, thanks for your hard work creating this cab for Fellow Rogers users. I just finished flashing my Tilt to the stock TyTN 2 ROM and I noticed it doesn't have Canada listed (silly). So I see your cabs and I am ready to try adding them but I noticed your note "make sure you delete your old settings first!"... sorry but I am not sure how to do that... can you fill in a noob?

Without it I never would have upgraded from WM5.

I've encountered an issue though (sorry to report), hopefully someone could assist.

This cab works great for MMS if the "push" function isn't activated on "Windows Live".

Once it is, MMS refuses to connect.

OK well I applied the cab file and it didn't work. I get the error "Cannot connect for a unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed tap Settings." I check the settings and here is what I noticed.

1) I only have one connection and its Rogers Internet, when I go to manage connection i noticed under proxy settings there is check mark in "This network connects to the Internet" I removed the check mark, tap ok and when I go back its there again. Even if I try to add the settings manually same thing happens. I even did a hard reset and first thing I did after it initialized was applied the cab file and sure enough, the check box showed up under proxy settings.

2) Rogers MMS is configured but it doesn't seem to be in use anywhere, and it doesn't show up under the list of Connections.

I'm new to Windows Mobile and not very familuar with how everything works quite yet, but I'm a technical person, so with a little guidance as where I should look to solve this, would help a lot.

As a final note here is my phone information (I have not done any type of Rom updates, this is directly from HTC)

Rom Version: 1.82.707.0 WWE
Rom Date: 11/03/07
Radio Version: 1.27.15.32

Thanks

Hmmm, odd... I had installed the cab but when sending an MMS it would prompt me for that username/password/domain and it never accepted it. I edited the MMS Options and changed the connect via to "Rogers internet" and that got it to work... until tonight it just didn't work and stuck at 0%. I am able to get on the net with IE... but can't send an MMS...

any ideas?

but in order to get them to work I had to first place SIM card in an old Rogers motorola phone and send myself a pic message. Then because this was my first MMS I had to log on to rogers site to receive. Once this was done I switched SIM card back to my Wizard and can send and receive now with phone only annd not longer necessary to go to Rogers site.

Has anybody had any luck wiith this connection yet?

I tried with a Wizard Service Tool 'repaired' IMEI and connect through internet.com apn. Worked fine for Internet Exlorere and opera mini but this also got me billed data usage.

Next tried internet.com apn and checked 'this network uses proxy server to connect' option with goam.com as the proxy apn. Everything worked but still got billed as browsing outside thee unlimited package.

Last, tried connect direct to goam.com and while this showed as a connection IE nor Opera nor NetFront nor imap/smtp could connect.

Any ideas??

You need to uninstall the Proxy. When you get back on the AT&T network, you need to re-install the Proxy.

I've got an unlocked HTC Advantage that I put my Rogers sim into and have had no problems with the phone so far. I had a 5mb data add-on as part of my plan with my old SonyEricsson 790i and found the settings to use 3G with the new device elsewhere on the net. However, I just added Rogers new 6gb/month package and am wondering if Lurch's cab will give me the correct WM6 settings to take advantage of the first real data plan I've seen in Canada. Any comments?

Hi Everybody,,having problems with 3G speed and can't figure out why?
I am in Calgary, with HTC Tytn that I have had for 1 1/2 years. Ever since I could see them experimenting with 3G (could see the icon) I was waiting for the day that I could see the benefits of 3G. Well,, my speed of download is miserable, even with full 3G bars. I have all the proper icons showing up on top, 3G,, and when downloading internet page I see the H icon appear. An aquaintance in Winnipeg, said that he almost gets Wifi speed with 3G.. I have put a new sim card (thought that might be a reason, because it was out of my old blackberry). I am really depressed ,especially when I went to download an internet page on a demo iPhone and was blown away by the speed, which I don't have. I now hve Schaps 4.31 and Radio 1.51,, and basically, since owning the unit have never had the speed. Can anyone possibly help me figure out what is wrong? Perhaps over chat, skype? I have always used Lurch's settings whenever I put in a new Rom, and I feel that all HSDPA is enabled through Schaps config, and elsewhere. Any help would be most welcome. I still love my TyTN,, Thanks for any help you can give to me. I have of course IE browser, but also Opera.. Sorry, had posted previously tonight in the wrong area..

Hi all,

Rogers is my provider. I just lost SMS capability. When I look into the connections setting dialog box, I have a "Rogers Internet" connection setup. The access point name is set up to Internet.com with the wapuser1 username and so on. I installed this using Lurch's CAB and the Internet connection works fine. However, this CAB and the VPN CAB do not install an MMS connection. I seem to recall I used to have one.

I deleted those settings and attempted multiple reinstalls with both CABs.

Am I right, shouldn't there be an MMS connection setting and maybe another one to?

I'd like to add them by hand but I just cannot seem to find a way to add an MMS connection and all the other settings I see in the manual setting posts in this forum. When I use "add a new modem connection" and select "cellular line (gprs, 3g)" I can only set up another Internet connection which is not what I want to. How do you add an MMS connection by hand? Any other suggestions?

I use an AT&T tilt with stock ROMs, I just do not want to fool around with this.

Thank you so much

I tried this CAB with my HTC Elfin a number of times last year, along with following a number of avialable information lists here on XDA and on Howard forums and elsewhere. Tried mixing and matching, as well as following strictly (where possible - many of these tutorials have headings and/or input fields which are not to be found in a WM6.5 device), and tried multiple times with a number of dsixda's ROM versions. Also tried with a stock Rogers ROM on the Elfin. But never did manage to send a single SMS.

So now I have a Kaiser. I have tried sending a text message with the only 'stock' Rogers WM6.1 ROM available (a leaked beta, since Rogers never sold the Tytn II), and on WM6.5 ROMs from a few different cooks. As above, I tried on this device with every combination of information input I could think of. Still no texting out. Oh sure, I can receive a text message. Same as I could on the Motorola V220 which came 'free' with my Rogers account 3.5 years ago. But I couldn't send a text on that phone either.

So today I'm giving it one last try on the Kaiser. I can manage to send a 'text' message by going into the MMS dialogue and creating one of those slow beasties, just not including an image or a sound. On trying to send, Messaging asks if, since there is no media content, I want to switch to SMS... and if I select Yes then there is an immediate and all too familiar error: "Your text message could not be sent."
How very informative, how helpful... Anyway, if I send it anyway using the MMS protocol, it eventually goes out. Takes a few minutes, but it gets gone. I get replies via SMS, but cannot reply to those directly. Fun, huh?

Yeah, so I'm trying once more. This time I have manually deleted every bit of Rogers data information from the Settings > Communication area, and any non-default settings from the Messaging > Menu > MMS Options dialogue (the default connection cannot be deleted from that). Then I soft reset.

Then I have gone into the registry using Resco Explorer, and hunted down every mention of the word 'Rogers' and deleted whole keys where appropriate, or just emptied out data strings where that's all that is wanted (leaving intact generic system keys and strings and Dwords so as not to hoop the system). I have then soft reset. As far as I can tell, this is what Lurch is talking about when saying one has to delete all related data before installing.

Then I soft reset, again. Looking everywhere, I see nothing 'Rogers' magically re-appeared. So I installed the Lurch3559-Rogers.cab, soft reset when complete, and tried to connect in Comm Manager. Tapping the Data button only gets me to Settings > Connections > Connections. 3G though, that connected after a minute or so. Then trying again with the Data button the program hesitates a moment, and again dumps me back to Settings > Connections > Connections, apparently begging me to input something useful. Looking there, I find under Manage Existing Connections only one entry: Rogers Internet. There is nothing entered in Proxy Settings nor VPN. Tapping Edit on Rogers Internet shows this:

name: Rogers Internet
modem: Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
APN: internet.com
user: wapuser1
pass: ******************

And that's it. Nothing under Advanced, nothing else. Now comparing this to all the multi-line tutorials and it leaves me somewhat confused. When I then look into MMS Options in Messaging there is just this:

server: MMS Rogers
gateway: 172.25.0.107
port: 8080
server: http://mms.gprs.rogers.com
connect via: MMS Rogers
send limit: 300K
WAP version: WAP 2.0

I've seen a whole lot more information than these in lots of places. Some people would have us setting up 4, even 5 distinct servers, most with Rogers in the name with MMS or Internet or Media after, or contracted as in RogersMMS and RogersInternet, taking away the spaces for some reason. But back to the point; I still cannot send a simple text message.

My account costs me over $100/month, including the old $30/month for 6GB of data (most I've ever used prior to a week ago (when I bought the Kaiser), thanks to my slow Elfin, is about 5MB in a given month. Handy now and then, but a pain to use with less than 3G speed. This last week I've used almost 200MB! Woot! So internet data and email are not a problem with my connection and this phone. At least, not a problem when I have used the connection wizard to set up Rogers automagically. And hey, checking now with Netfront I find that the Lurch3559-Rogers.cab setup, without resorting to the Rogers wizarded one, gets me to my home page and some other pages, so general internet connectivity is working fine. But no texting. And my account type includes up to 2,500 text messages before extra charges kick in. Has for over 2 years. And I have not sent a single one.

So I guess I shall spend another hour or two this evening, getting bored beyond belief, keeping notes and trying all sorts of combinations. But what am I asking you good people? For a hint, if any can be offered. I've read this whole thread months ago, maybe more like a year. Yesterday I read it again, end to end. Nothing I've tried here has helped, and believe me, as a veteran tester of Pocket PCs and their software for a full decade (okay, 10 years this May, but it's close), with careful bug reports to hundreds of developers to my credit, Resco VIP and Microsoft Windows Mobile MVP current status, and just WAY too much time spent working on these little bastards, I can say with some confidence that I have tried everything available online. And Rogers 'support' department, as will come as a surprise to no one here, has been of zero help in this matter. My question, precisely? There are two:

- Could it be that the old (summer 2007) SIM card is just too old, that I need to somehow convince Rogers to give or sell me a new SIM?

- Or is there something else, anything, I could try? I welcome any suggestions, including 'give it up, live with it, it's just not worth the stress.' Problem with that one though... is that I absolutely HATE being beaten in trying to get full functionality out of my devices. I'm used to winning.

I've never had to use any cab with any device that I've had to have SMS work properly on Rogers. I just run Connection Set-up and all the proper fields were populated correctly and it just worked.

- Could it be that the old (summer 2007) SIM card is just too old, that I need to somehow convince Rogers to give or sell me a new SIM?

This was it. I was on the phone yesterday with a positively BRILLIANT Rogers tech support person, FINALLY, and she walked me through a few of the usual suspects. She did some tricks at her end, trying to tickle my account into letting me send an SMS... but concluded there really wasn't anything she could do. In the end she said "hey, it looks like your SIM is really kind of old." She told me it wasn't likely a newer SIM would fix the SMS sending problem, but it would almost certainly speed up my data connection, which had been running at around 250 to 350kbps. So I thanked her, really happy that someone there had finally owned an actual brain - quite the geek actually, though not a WM user, she knew her way around the settings rather well.

Then off I went to the nearest Rogers store and bought a new SIM. To my surprise they had dropped their traditionally ridiculous $40 price on the SIM to $10! According to the tech guy in the store this was because of the Olympics. Makes sense. A lot of visitors would have been outraged to be charged $40 for a SIM, when in many countries they're almost free. I popped it in, and found it didn't fix the problem...

So last night I flashed ahmedfikry's latest ROM, since it fixed a couple of glitches otherwise anyway. I was guessing that the problem might be fixed by the new SIM, but that my saved configuration for the data connection might be getting in the way. I was right. After setting up a little here and there including letting Rogers auto-configure my connection I installed this CAB from Lurch, and after a little more tweaking in connections tried sending a test SMS. Worked. Just worked.

So my conclusion is that there was something relevant to SMS sending changed in Rogers SIMs some time after I got mine a few years ago. The guy in the Rogers store said that Rogers made some significant changes to their network a couple of years ago. Seems the new SIMs work better with the renewed network. So if anyone following this and still having some sort of connection problem and also has an older SIM - the new one has a red thin plastic overlay on the back, or at least mine does, where the old one was slightly thinner and plain white - I'd suggest getting a new one, for only $10 plus tax.

I've had the same SIM since 2002, and like I said, all the WM devices that I've used were automatically set up using the Connection Set-up. No cab, no anything. I do not think your problem was related to the SIM. More likely: the last flash you did got rid of bad settings on your device...

GerardSamija
23rd February 2010, 09:43 PM
But if that were the case, how could it be that initially, after every flash (I've done 6 now with the Kaiser I think) there were no Rogers nor any other sorts of phone-related settings there? Only after a) allowing the phone to connect to Rogers and configure automatically, and/or b) installing the Lurch CAB, has there been anything visible connected to Rogers. And how would server-specific settings survive flashing? I've used the same SIM all along, including doing about 30 or so different ROM flashes on my HTC Touch Elfin, and no settings to do with Rogers have ever been visible anywhere before setting them up after flashing.

Not sure. But I do know that I've had 3 WM devices: an HTC TYTN II, an HTC Fuze and an HTC Tilt2. Everytime I flash a ROM (including stock ROMs) "Connection Set-up" runs automatically and populates all the required fields, including SMS and MMS. Any you can run Connection Set-up at anytime afterwards. I have never had to input/type-in any setting, as connection set-up did it for me. Note, however, that I have only used devices with WM6.1 and higher...
