Speaker problem

lately my universal is acting weird.
when this happens I can hear an incoming call ,but when i try to answer I do not hear speaker,and i am not hear.
along with this all other sounds are dead.only sound I hear is the incoming ring call,
is it a speaker problem,and if so why does the ring caller still sound?

problem with your mic, maybe die, speaker still work because it don't relate to mic
