Hi all

Has anyone come across a fixed car kit for the Hermes/TyTN? I

have got a brodit kit & charger and currently using it via BT with the Audi MMI, but as with most BT kits it varies between acceptable and awful (both in terms of signal strength and call quality).

When I put the SIM into the old nokia phone and plug it into the cradle in the armrest, the signal and call quility improves significantly - hence the request. Therefore, is there such a thing as a fixed Hermes kit? Alternatively, is there any way of improving the signal with a BT kit - and is the call quality any good??

TIA

You could go for a THBBury (UNI System 8) kit with the TyTN cradle for it.

I am just about to install this setup in my car over the next week so I will let you know how I get on.

http://www.bury.com/ and http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=141685 show you what is involved.

I have a Brodit cradle too. The Audi MMI works fine now with the TyTN, took some time as I had to update both the TyTN's ROM and the MMI to the latest versions. Now the MMI can read the TyTN's contacts and Missed/Received calls lists.

However, I don't thing the MMI is quite compatible with the TyTN's SAP profile. This is the reason why you're getting better results with the Nokia. The Nokia's SAP is Audi's reference profile (as most phones these days are Nokias). The Audi Bluetooth module is actually a full phone, which takes over your SIM card in the Nokia (via the SAP profile). The MMI has it's own antenna and no voice data actually flows over the Bluetooth connection. This is only used to access the SIM card.

With the TyTN, this is a different story - all data goes over Bluetooth (including voice) and the signal is also that of the TyTN - the external antenna of the Audi is not used at all in this case :(.

I'll keep trying with new ROM updates and see if I get more luck.

Hi Paul_o,

I have the THB carkit. However it is not hardwired, but bluetooth.
Sometimes my Tytn switches of bluetooth by it self.
I have upgrade to vp3G's WM6 ROM with radio 1.48. Bluetooth problems are less frequent as before with original WM5 dutch.

@ djwillis:
Any news on the kit?

@ajax007:
Appreciate the info re:Audi MMI, but as the company car is going back in 3 weeks I reckon the Bury kit is the way forward in the new car...

Don't know if I'm hijacking the thread but I'm also looking in getting a handfree BT kit for the car. I don't need my 8525 to be cradled in, just have it connect automatically like in my wife's Lexus. Of course I can always buy a new car with BT but I was hoping to spend a little less than that...

Erm.. sorry, the ebay auction was clearly geared towards the bundle software for blackberry. The 20SM is universal.

Has bluetooth GPS built into the base, and can also charge the handheld. Includes Bluetooth Handsfree operation as well
