View Full Version : The best communication device in the world?

I purchased a TyTN (T-Mobile Vario II) around six months ago and I was pretty pleased with it. It wasn't perfect (for example, I couldn't re-connect to the Internet without a soft reset) but it was pretty good.
After a lot of hesitation, I upgraded the radio (1.41) and OS (Black 2.5) about a month ago. A couple of days ago I upgraded the OS to Black Shadow. Tonight I added the SMS "fix".
I now believe that I have the best communication device in the world. Seriously. It's wonderful. The functionality is outstanding. I can do almost anything I could possibly want to do with a phone/PDA. E-mail, texting, surfing, phoning, Skyping, gaming, voice recording, reading (Word, PDF), presenting (PowerPoint), photography etc. Did I mention Internet sharing? I can now connect my laptop to the 'Net from almost anywhere in the world.
The only drawbacks that I can see are that it looks a bit like a brick (only because it has a full QWERTY keyboard - which I love), the battery only lasts one day at a time, and it can be a little sluggish at times.
Nothing else comes close and whenever I look for something better I always come away seriously disappointed - and that will include the iPhone when it comes out. We're probably using iPhone v2 (3G, programmable, video calling, Internet sharing, Office compatible, etc.) right now.

Enough people bitch about their phones in these forums. I for one am glad to hear a success story once in a while.

I think it's a great phone, perhaps the best of the last generation, but there are new toys coming out that show incremental improvements in the technology.
But it's the programmers and hackers that really make Windows Mobile devices fly!
And, re "The best communication device in the world? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1310866#post1310866)", surely this is the wife's evil glare? Never fails to get the message over to me, tout suite

Have you tried the Trinity?

"The best communication device in the world?"
Although my X01HT is not the best performance device in the world, I think it's the ringt device for me.
I dont have a perfect phone or PDA. Nor do I want one.
Else I will never get to replace a new one every few months!

...but we still need to file that original post under "NooB-gasm"!
Perhaps we could start a special "H-TaCy" thread for these posts.
Just kidding.
You know, in this day and age with so many Prematurely-released feature-rich gadgets, the marketing teams usually win the consumers over and poor tech support kills all the hope of the devices reaching their potential. I've been had by ASUS a few times on PDAs/phones.
It's really nice to have a great group of people like we find here (who are putting in all the grunt work) who can help us GET OUR MONEY'S WORTH (SO RARE THESE DAYS!!), especially on the language-change issues!
_My_ thanks goes out to HTC for making good products and to the FOLKS HERE for making it great! It's quite possible he sort of meant the same thing. When the vibrator stops working, he may one day realize this.

Lol... be nice guys.
I have to say I was quietly smiling to myself when I heard about the Iphone's 3rd party development support - through Safari widgets. Yippee :p
I've said it before and I'll say it again - the Windows Mobile phones are great because people like the endless genii on this board make them great and customise the hell out of them.
HTC makes nice hardware, and the two together work well. Many OEMs make nice hardware now, look at the Japanese only devices for true innovation. But, Hermes is a nice, stable device. Shame about the GPS, it would have been near perfect (for its generation).

Perfect? Well.... Well if it was faster, had 128 MB of storage. Had room for SD and MicroSD (4GB please) and if it had GPS, maybe it would be approaching perfect.
Now Heather Graham is perfect! http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001287/

The TyTN is a fantastic communications device, I keep my interior life on it and it entertains me when I'm bored!

I agree with some of this... ample RAM and an 800Mhz CPU would suit me. Add GPS and a 5MP camera and it would be my perfect device.
Ohh yeah and a mini projector built into the top of the phone so I could aim it at a wall and project my films so I had a larger view!

I would like the top projector on the device to project on air rather than the wall as well as would like TyTn to perform as a new "surface" where u can just put any bar coded device on its screen and have all the contents sorted out...plus I would also like it to work as a fax and also GPS and so the list goes on and on...
In reality, I use it only for the voice calling and nothing else... and for that my nokia 3100 was perfect with 7 days plus battery life....
Sorry for the rant...

No! You picked the wrong girl! If on the other hand you'd have said Ada Nicodemou (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ada_Nicodemou) then maybe . . .
(She's the white rabbit girl in The Matrix (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133093/).) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ada_Nicodemou)

I wonder how his shrine to the phone will look like.
Sounds close to one of those ads, "and this, ladies and gentlemen, is the finest phone in the... WORLD!"
This thread should be moved to the General Forum.

Only the lack of GPS is a real omission from the phone.
I notice that no-one has proposed a better phone so I guess the TyTN is currently the best phone around?
Heather Graham is certainly hot - but not perfect. Now Kelly Brook. (http://www.officialkellybrook.com/)..

I'm new here.
Yep, this is one case where a phone is feature rich and doesn't have any glaring flaws.
The only thing I would change is add GPS and 2 or more SDHC slots. Imagine having 2 8 GB SDHC cards for a total of ~16 GB. One fo the nitpicky thins though is the lack of standard jacks/ports. That little thing is annoying to carry around for charging.

I did actually propose the Trinity.
It has GPS and is thought of by many as the best on the market.
As far as perfection goes though the Trinity is just behind Jessica Alba http://uk.askmen.com/specials/2006_top_99/jessica-alba-1.html (which incidently is a place where I wouldn't mind being myself)

fuck, i'd give this guy 5 COOKIES!!
I'm 22 and i'm in college/university and have attempted to convert several friends to windows mobile. All didn't have a good experience. I told them from the start its gonna be something you have to work with to get it perfect, but they all wanted something that works out of the box (sony ericsson and nokia).
They all gave up on windows mobile and they hate it when i get approached cuz of my phone. FOR example. I party alot and work in a bar, when i pull out my hermes (jasjam variant) i've had many girls approach me and ask me if its an IPHONE!!!! my reply; "this eats the iphone!"... thats when my "hater" friends step in and start bitching about windows mobile... my reply to them "just cuz you didn't want to LEARN how to use the device, you can't hate on it" after that, they say ok and walk off.
the point of my reply??? I;m just giving props to this dude for not giving up on this incredible device!!! Windows i1s a love-hate relationship! out of the box, im sorry to say, they don't work!! You need places like xda-devs to tweak your device to ultimate performance.
My jasjam on shadow would eat any other device on this planet!!! i have a bt gps reciever which i use frequently and completes my device. Kaiser is next on the list and i tell people this all the time... "i can never see myself using a device other than a windows mobile phone!!!"
i'll leave it at that before my drunk ass says anymore.
love u all (yah i'm drunk) and props to this dude for working out his issues and making his device work to his needs!
