I was wondering is it possible to switch off the phone but leave gps on?
I am using Artemis as GPS on my motorcycle. It is annoying when phone starts ringing  while you ride. Because of my annoying girlfriend I missed two exits of a motorway before she stoped ringing .... and well GPS told me that I missed them after she stopped. Artemis is in my pocket so I can not look at the screen. Also I am not mad to hold a bike with 1 hand at 80mph+ to look at screen or reject the call by pressing a button(not duable in gloves any how) .

Can't you just switch off the phone via the Comm Manager? I can't imagine that this will affect the GPS Reception, since they have to be two different aerials and devices?!

why turn phone off, cause its getting to hot...
there are two ways:
1. u can block the phone number for a while if you dont want to talk..
2. u shedule the phone for 3 times ringing it will take the call automaticaly..

I'm in the same situaiton, use the Orbit GPS in my pocket, eaphone running to my ear when on the motorbike. Verbal TomTom is just enough. I just turn off the phone function in the com manager to stop calls. Works fine.

Is there anyway to just shut off the phone's radio so that everything else
such as BlueTooth, WiFi, Ifrd still stays active? I know that with certain
OS ROMs such as Dutty's WM6 v2 you can control each item without
affecting the other. If you used "flight mode" I think that would kill your
BT connection assuming you're using a BT GPS.

As i said, when i simply switch off the Phone in Comm Manager, no other device is affected, Bluetooth works fine, as well as GPS Reception and TomTom.

I got fed up of fumbling around, pressing the screen by accident when it was in my pocket and just ordered a Ram Mount Aqua Box for the bike so that I can see TomTom and use the touch screen as well:

http://www.ram-mount-uk.com/ram-hol-aq2.htm

There's a base that bolts on to one of the clipons on the triple clamp, with the arm joining the base and box. Not cheap, but it lets you do you what you need to with the phone and keeps it dry.

If you are looking at them, don't be tempted to get the smaller box though - the artemis will fit inside, but the surround on the touchscreen membrane means that you can't get to all of the buttons or the edge of the screen. Works an absolute treat with a pair of Shure E2C earphones which block out the road noise. Only downside it's a bit fiddly getting the helmet on and off.

Been looking at the Interphone too, basically a bluetooth headset for your helmet which will also double as a wireless intercom, but I think the jury's still out

I got the bracket that bolts on to the clip-on clamp:

I've got a thundercat which has clip ons rather than handlebars. If you've got standard handlebars rather than clipons then I would say a u bolt is the type of clamp you want.

Hi all, with regards to the gps function being 'turned off' when in flight mode. It just seems to be a quirk with the latest version of TomTom.

Managed to get around it tho :-)

If you choose the 'inbuilt gps' from tomtoms menu then, in flight mode tomtom wont use the gps....bit daft eh!

If you choose 'other cabled' gps from tomtoms menu (com4) then tomtom will use the gps function whether you are in flight mode or not..

Hope that helps

Mick
