Few instructions to avoid you going crazy when trying to see your gps position appearing on Google Mobile Maps...
Systems used:
- Palm Treo 750
- Windows Mobile 5.1 version
- Google Mobile Maps 1.2 ver. (make sure not to use older)
- GPS Bluethoot Receiver Globalsat BT359
Main (and only) issue: COM port setting
Consider that two COM port will need to be setted:
- The first COM port allows your BT GPS to communicate with your Palm750
- The second COM port allows the GPS information data to be exchanged in your device within appropriate application (example Google Maps)
1. Establishing a bluetooth relationship with you GPS receiver
- Setting>Connections>Bluetooth> Turn on Bluetooth (in case you haven't ;-)
- Setting>Connections>Bluetooth>Devices> New partnership (will find your GPS, turn it on!)
2. Assigning a COM port to your GPS
-Setting>Connections>Bluetooth>COM Ports> New Incoming Port (tap on it) > select a port (chosed #4) and tap on "Secure Connection"
3. Assigning COM port for data exchange and identify GPS COM port assigned
- Setting>GPS(tap icon)>Programs>GPS program port, select for example COM port 2 (must be different from the COM assigned above to GPS), baudrate 4800
- Setting>GPS(tap icon)>Hardware>GPS hardware port, select COM port 4 (assigned to your GPS at above point #2)
4. Assigning data COM port in Google Maps Mobile
- Start Google Maps>Menu>Options>GPS Position Setting>Manual setting, select COM port 2 (assigned for data exchange at above point #3)
Before starting Google Maps again just shut down your Treo750 and restart it.
Finally launch Google Maps and start the postion tracing.
You will see yourself as blue dot on the map. Enjoy!
