My "particular" ExtROM.....

Hi...this mine "ExtROM"........I'm use it w/ my last WM6 ROM (based on LVSW's v2.0.1.1)....however i think that it should work on any rom (wm5 too...)

Its "particular".....I have inserted some useful programs BUT...nothing are installed (alias, copied to the device)!!...everything are alredy "installed" to extrom....

I'm created it for me....so, maybe its unuseful for everybody.....

Whatsuppen:

U download this archive.........................ok
Install it as a normal rom-update (HardSPL included).............ok
So....now, after an HardReset, when the "Customization" popup appears, ONLY some shortcuts will be copied into your device (20 kb), and a few registry tweaks will be also installed (1/2 kb)...........but when you'll enter in the "Programs" directory these programs will be present:

PocketRAR v3.60
AltTab (from PocketPlus)
Adobe Reader LE
VJOkButton ("JustClick" only, i'm associate it to a button...)
Spb Full Screen Keyboard (not configurable...u can access to it only from "programs" menu's icon) U

You need to go to the wiki and find the cab which will unhide the extROM for you. Then in the extROM folder click shortcuts

I have collected the .cab of my preferites program, unpacked, compress the exe using UPX, edited the registry of each program, make the shortcuts from \Extended_ROM to StartMenu, packed all shortcuts and registry to a proper .cab and edited the config.txt to install it!

Finally a I merged all file into an .nb using a tool named "HTC ExtRom Editor" (u can find around the forum), and using NBHGen i have conerted it to .nbh.....ready to flash!

It's when you reset your phone to the "factory defaults" (or the ROM cooker's defaults - anything you had loaded on to the device is wiped - you need to set up programs etc again.

bugger- wish i had of gotten this yesterday before before i reflashed my rom with Ax3l's 2.0.8.... i am assuming when i reflash with this it loses all the programs and setting i have made since i reflashed it?

I didnt install the previous version as i dont use any of the programs in it, but this one i use 2 of these......

Hello AX3L, I love the extROM with your selection of programs - and I am now playing around with the ROM that appeared during the weekend. The "Official" WM6 ROM. Whether Official or not (I think it probably is), it seems very fast - as fast if not faster than anything that I have tried to date.

anyhow, just one problem - when I flash afterwards with your extROM, I cannot see it. As the "Official" ROM is OS only - wold it just not have overwritten the extROM - so I just need to make the ExtROM visible again?

Any help would be appreciated.

I own a Trinity with official HTC WM5 rom (GPS enabled) and i am not an expert, though i have been reading several forums i never flashed by device.

However i desperately need to improve the Program Memory space of my device.

Pls clarify to me if your ExtRom will improve the space of Storage Memory or Program Memory.

Explanation:
I have to deal with a huge Contacts database (abt 8000 contacts).
My pim.vol file is abt 13 mb size and it takes about 30 secs to open the Pocket Contact window.
This seems really too long time so i have been testing various 3rd parties softwares to find a faster way to access/call my contact database.

The only one which looks god for me is name INESOFT ADDRESS BOOK.
This software makes a re-indexing of the contacts database and keeps it uploaded in the RAM of the device so can be readily available.
However i dont have enough Program Memory to complete the indexing/uploading of all the 8000 contacts in the RAM (i dont know why, but even if the pim.vol is just 13 mb a bigger space is required in the Program Memory to complete the indexing operation)

So if your Ext Rom improves the size of Program Memory i can (hopefully) solve my problems.

PS: any suggestion or alternative idea to deal efficently with such big contacts database is of course welcome!
Just for yr guidance it was not a problem with my previous device (qtek9090l with WM2003)

Hi, I'm using the Rom you made, and was looking at your ExtRom, however I want different applications, Agile Messenger, Spb suite(Plus, Phone, and Mob Shell) and also Pocket Informant.
So I will try to make my own version.

But I have a question, When applications get updated, does it require a Hard Reset every time, or does one just flash the updated ExtRom over the old one?

Also, to get the Registry values, I guess you compared an before and after installation registry, what application did you use for this?

I've installed the extrom sucessufully, but now I've got a problem with the mail attachments. I cannot select the option to store the attachments on the storage card, because the external rom it's unhidden the attachment storage configuration tries to store the attachments on the ext rom.

I installed ROM and after reset I made a Hard-Reset, but nothing happens, only install phonehelper.cab! I also install Hermes_MountEXTROM.cab to see ExtRom
but it's empty...

I'm use a program called "Eye on Theft"...its free

The program send (complitly hide) an SMS to a number when notice that the SIM card inserted in the device isn't the alowed-SIM card!
It send: SIM card number, MobilePhone IMEI; some Contact's number present in the thefter 's SIM card

After registering the allowed SIM card (ap to 10), set the numbers to allert, the text of the sms to send, and choose to send or not some contact's numbers present on the thefter's SIM to the allerted SIM, the program make itself a particular shortcut to StartUp folder and a file called "Config.ini" in Windows folder

I have taken these files (the shortcut and the config.ini), and the program files (an exe and a dll) and included into a new CAB made myself using the "OCP's CAB Manager"
finally, i have setted the cab to "Not alow user to unistall" (infact you can't see anythigs in program/installed list) and edited the "configuration file" in the extrom to install it during the customitation process

At this point, i have re-made the ExtROM_Plus give to us including this cab

This "version" of ExtROM_Plus is made ONLY for me (the "distribuited" version don't have the allarm-system), but for a mistake I have uploaded it!

From this moment, the developement of this ROM and my ExtROM_Plus is suspended....




Why?
From 6:00 AM (GMT:+1) until 0:50 AM, I had received many many many SMS from this number: +306973323000 caused by my previous released (and bugged) extrom that, for a mistake, contain my personal allarm system...
I replied to every received SMS, explain the problem and invite to install the new extrom_plus and hard-reset the device...

I haven't received any answere...but only the same allerting-sms

Moreover, I received these SMS randomly, not every 180 seconds as I setted...so i can suppose that this (idiot) guy simply playing whith the bugged extrom (i don't know why, anyway)

The result is that I'm tired to reply to each SMS (from this people), and I'm tired to delete his SMS....

So, to "protest", i decided to stop the developement of both ROM and ExtROM_Plus, and remove they download link....until I don't know when.....

sorry to hear that you decided to suspend development of ROM and Ext ROM (I just decided to get the Ext ROM to try) even though I understand why.

This said, you should a least leave a clean version of your ext Rom for download so the guy who needs to replace the ext rom can do so. Imagine some people went on holiday and didn't get a chance yet to upgrade since they discovered the pb.

Very nice Ext. Rom from AX3L, but I dont like that every time I use the "Contacts" function the "IContact" is starting.

You can do that by editing the registry,

Set the value

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:M SCONTACTS]

"1" = ":MSPOUTLOOK contacts"

Hi,

Its really simple. Just use a registry editor, then go to:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:M SCONTACTS]

Then you will see some values. Under the "1" value it is equalled a string called somthing (I dont remember exatcly) with IContact. Rename it so that the string looks like this:

"1" = :MSPOUTLOOK contacts

The " shall not be written in the string.

Is it possible to uninstall the extrom?
Or when you update the extrom no hard-reset would be necessary and you have to re-install all your programs which are not in this great extRom?

Sorry, but my personal guru-geek Matterhorn has gone AWOL, so you are all going to have to suffer my newbie Qs. Yes, I have read this thread, but can't say I understand all of it, so please be gentle and clear with me

I have just upgraded my P3600 from the standard HTC WM5 ROM to AX3L's ROM 2.0.8.2 sucessfully. :)
I then tried to add his ExtROM_Plus 2.0.9.8. The installation (or flash I think its called), seemed to go smoothly (took about 2 mins, compared to the ROMs c. 10 min) and I then HardReset, but I can't find any trace of the additional programs? :confused:
Tried re-flashing and re-HardReset (using hard and software keys) a couple of times, but still no trace.:eek:

It happened to me too. The problem is that the file Autorun.exe is missing on the Extrom and you have to manually unlock the ExtRom and run two cab's -- Shortcuts.cab and Safemode.cab; or simply copy Autorun.exe from a different extrom and HR (hard reset) your device for automatic installation.

- where do I get Autorun.exe from? And exactly what is the procedure?

I'd prefer to do the latter, because it would appear to be the simpliest? I have tried searching for "autorun.exe ExtROM" in the forum and Google, but it is such a common exe and it would seem to be a potential mine field waiting for an idiot like me to step on and instal the wrong one :eek:

Is it just you and I facing this problem, or has everyone encountered it, but they just know what to do?

install the following cab- that will unhide the ext rom. then just click on the required files.

Here is the file. The above .cab, I believe, only works if you have SuperCID. If you don't, please search in the forum for a solution to unlock without
SuperCID.

As previosuly said, when unlocked, just copy the autorun.exe to ExtRom and do a Hard Reset.

How do I know if my device is SuperCID? I'm not sure what this means? FYI, it is not tried to a any carrier.

Where can I find a glossary for the lingo you guys use?

Unfortunately I am still struggling. Nothing seems to go as planned :confused:

Couldn't find out if my device was 'SuperCID' or not (whatever that means?), so I went ahead and copied MontAlbert's cab file to my device, ran it, and indeed I can now see the Extended_ROM subdir in my device's explorer. It contains ony 2 files: 'config' and 'nothing'

So I concluded that AX3L's ExtROM had not been installed after all? (Plus activesync would not allow me to copy the autorun.exe file to the Extended_ROM subdir anyway?).

So I thought I would try and re-install AX3L's ExtROM again, to see if having the Extended_ROM subdir visible made any difference. (Do you see I'm stabbing around in the dark here!). Except this time, trying to install (flash?) AX3L's ExtROM now results in a error where it gets stuck at the begining of the grey installation bar. Luckily I am able to remove/replace the battery and reboot and all is well.

But I am still going nowhere with this and have yet to instal the ExtROM :confused:

I'd be most grateful for your further help.

Sorted :) All was going wrong, and I noticed that my storage card had been wiped by all the mucking around. So I removed it, and wadya know... ExtROM installed/flashed no problem. (n.b. without autorun.exe being manually installed to the extended_rom subdir) I guess this is common knowledge, but FWIW as a newbie....

I think there should be a reminder to remove the storage card in the RIMupdateUtility routine.

In my case at least, it would have made the difference between a 10 min job a complete newbie could have done, to a 2 day waste-of-valuable-time nightmare.

After hunting around for 5 minutes I see who you referring to FuzzMunky.

It might be an idea to hit the quote button when replying to a previous post (protocol says unless the reply directly follows the initial post - like here:) you should quote the post to which you are replying!

But what if I made the ExtRom visible and them delete the app files, than the app will disappear???

Or maybe AX3L will show us how to "cook" a personal ExtROM :)
