View Full Version : Youtube got Mobile

Youtube got mobile (http://m.youtube.com) and now streams 3gp files via rtsp. Unfortunately WM10 cannot play these streams, but there exists a HTC Streaming Mediaplayer which plays it just fine. The app is posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1315644&postcount=553

I copied it to my Vox and it works, except my browser still opens WM10 when I click on a video.

Does anyone know how to associate HTC streaming media player with urls of type rtsp:// ??

EDIT: See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1322849&postcount=20 for getting this to work on S710
EDIT2: Try installing this cab here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1323244&postcount=17) first, before trying the manual install procedure

The HTC streaming media player, the older version v2.10 build 1025.621 works best. This version is found in "Core 2.0" and Faria's "Real Thing". That's the application we all need! Now I do have it on my MDA running the Core 2.0, it connects to http://m.youtube.com very fast, works great, but I want to put the app on another device. That Touch streaming media player, looks good on the T-Mobile Dash, it tries to connect to rtsp://ect.....!, BUT THE SAME PROBLEM YOU ARE HAVING, WHEN YOU TRY TO CONNECT TO THE YOUTUBE VIDEOS WMP10 COMES UP, WILL NOT PLAY THE CLIP!

jockyw2001

The link I posted above V2.10 Build 518.700
Don't know if yours is newer.
I just tried it with this link: rtsp://rtsp.youtube.com/youtube/videos/JBWbJLYfrgs/video.3gp

and it just quits the player.

Where do I find "Core 2.0" and Faria's "Real Thing"?

Intergalactic

Look in the wizard wm6 section or do a search, it should be easy to find! The 1.7 reload has that streaming media player also!

Thx! Have u tried the rtsp link above? does it work for you?

I think I found the reg keys for handling rtsp.
Should be something like this:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\RTSP]
(Default)=URL:Windows Media Streaming Protocol
URL Protocol=

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\RTSP\DefaultIcon]
(Default)=\Program Files\PacketVideo\PVPlayer\PVPlayer.exe, 0

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\RTSP\Shell]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\RTSP\Shell\Open]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\RTSP\Shell\Open\Command]
(Default)=""\Program Files\PacketVideo\PVPlayer\PVPlayer.exe" %1

I found that here: http://www.hkppc.com/bbs/viewthread.php?tid=2422

The funny thing is that there seems also to be a PVPlayer (PacketVideo) which can do rtsp ??

Intergalactic
19th June 2007, 03:51 PM
All the rtsp url info is not there, but I can connect to mobile youtube easy and fast and watch all the videos! I'm watching the Paris Hilton jail video via wifi!

I've use the above hack before to make the TCPMP/player the primary player over wmp10 to watch Orb on the TCPMP/player, it works!

jockyw2001
19th June 2007, 04:23 PM
I'm glad I could help you, but so far I haven't got anything to work :)
Perhaps you can reply on the PM I just sent to you. Also you say you are running TCPMP. Which version? And can it do RTSP?

I'm using Coreplayer which works great, but can't do RTSP yet :(

The Hong Kong PPC site which has the registry tweak talks about the Pvplayer platform4. Seems hard to find too. See:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286803
Í found it and attached it to this post.

Maybe it's the same as this Philips Platform4 player for PPC (doesn't install on SP, prolly need manual install or cloning from PPC emu):
http://www.pdagold.com/software/detail.asp?s=513

Would be nice if someone manages to install and test these apps on S710

Below are the registry settings for HTC Streaming Media Player.
Ýou find it in the distro which I linked at the top, it's in a68b298c-c2c5-409c-a145-3113bcf2baa1.rgu

I'm a bit worried that there are keys missing, in particular MIME settings for .3gp files

PS: Who knows a good registry tool which can import files?

Do we still need to do the wmp10 registry hack?

jockyw2001
19th June 2007, 10:31 PM
That hack from hkppc was actually intended for Pvplayer.
In fact you see similar keys in a68b298c-c2c5-409c-a145-3113bcf2baa1.rgu

For example
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PROTOCOLS\Handler\rtsp]
"CLSID"="{EA48DF9C-1362-41F2-BD83-B97507F9484B}"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{EA48DF9C-1362-41F2-BD83-B97507F9484B}]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{EA48DF9C-1362-41F2-BD83-B97507F9484B}\InprocServer32]
@="RtspHandler.dll"
"ThreadingModel"="Free"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\application/sdp]
"Extension"=".sdp"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\URLPro tocols\rtsp]
@=""
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\rtsp\Shell\Open\Command]
@="StreamingPlayer.exe %1"

But I haven't been able to test it, because I'm looking for a registry editor which can import files. Do you know one?

I'm using TC/CE V.2.5PB

Btw: did you already try Pvplayer and Philips Platform4 player ?

The Player open when I click on video, but no video will play, but I believe we can get this to work. It's just a matter of time, because it picks up the rtsp url. I will have to take a brake, maybe one for hr. I will be back later! We will get this player to work! I have this player install on a Dell Axim X51v, connection, wifi. The Playr is beautiful!

Do you have the pvplayer smartphone version? The ppc pvplayer version is suppose to work with YouTube mobile, but for some unknown reason it will not connect!

20th June 2007, 04:35 PM
I managed to install the HTC Streaming Media for Smartphone Version 2.10 (Build 518.700) Copyright 2005-2007 on my S710 :)

When I start IE and go to m.youtube.com and start a video, the HTC player is correctly started and plays the videos :)

I must say I'm not so impressed by the quality but alas it works fine :D

Okay, here are the steps to install the player on your S710

1. Download the HTC player from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=41694&d=1182019492). Unpack it and copy all files to \Windows
2. Install Resco Explorer 5.32 (it's the registry editor you need)
3. Download the registry key which I attach to this message and import it with Resco reg editor

Have fun!

EDIT:
1. also works fine from Opera Mobile 8.65b
2. you can operate the player buttons with Fakecursor (altho via menus it also works perfect)
3. you may want to reduce the pre-buffer time (default 7 sec)

I wish the quality is better though.

Youtube Mobile wants people with "low-end" phones (display size and processing power) and slow access to be able to play content. The coding profile they chose meets these requirements (176x144; bitrate 69 kbps; codec H.263 AMR-NB). For us Vox users, they could chose higher resolution (320x240) and bitrates. Maybe in the future they will have hybrid streams which suit us better.

The guide itself shows pictures of it running in WM5. How is it relying on dlls for WM6 if it is running on a WM5 smartphone?

EDIT: Oh wow, here I go again... asking questions about the Q in an HTC forum... how did I not notice, sorry, and thanks if you have any answers...

Not all WM5 devices seem to have the same run-time support or it's the app checking it is actually running on a HTC

EDIT: I installed the .cab in the WM5 PPC emulator and when I start "Streaming Media" it throws following error:
"The file 'StreamingPlayer' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file."

t_o_o_l: do you get the same error?

This error is shown when the device is not app unlocked ...

I did unlock my PPC emu :p
So it seems there's some kind of HTC runtime needed.

I installed the .cab on M$ WM6 Smartphone emu after unlocking it with the security manager. The error is now: "Alert: Can't find 'StreamingPlayer' (or one of its components) Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all the required libraries are available".

So now we know the player requires dll runtime libraries which are not provided on all devices. Very likelely one or more HTC .dll files.

Will take a closer look.

EDIT1:
Following .dll files are required by StreamPlayer.exe and not available in the emulator and on other devices such as Moto Q (I think):
AYGSHELL.dll
COREDLL.dll
ImageDLL.dll
ole32.dll
OLEAUT32.dll
VerInfou.dll
WININET.dll
WS2.dll

Will try to copy them from the S710.

Okay, I've put the files in the attached .zip file.
Unzip it and copy files to the \Windows directory of your device.
Careful: if you are prompted to overwrite a file say no. Only copy the files which aren't present yet

I have tested this in the WM6 Smartphone emu. The player starts fine. Unfortunately I can't open a stream (network not found), but I believe this is because UDP protocol is not supported via activesync (only TCP is) or because of issues with my firewall.

That new version of HTC Streaming Media Player definitely looks interesting. Seems to support many more codecs. I will test it soon.

Update1: Tried it in the WM5 PPC emulator and overwrote the current HTC Streaming Media player. It doesn't work. It's complaining about a missing component. Well, I don't give up that fast :)

Update2: Yeah works great on S710 and in WM6 PPC/SP emulators.

Instructions:
1. Unzip the attached .zip file and copy the files from the "HTC Streaming Media" folder to \Windows
2. Import the registry file: a68b298c-c2c5-409c-a145-3113bcf2baa1.reg

HTC Streaming media won't play m.youtube video with either Opera or IE browser. It connects and transfers the video but after the % scroll completes it just exits back to the browser without playing the video.
What is the remedy?

Go to my post in the EXCALIBUR FORUM (MY NEW THREAD) and download the correct player for your device or contact me for help 24/7/365. I will be more that happy to help my fellow forum member. A wm6 YouTube player will not work on a wm5 device, all PPC players will not work on all smartphones, face the facts, then the first you will say,"man this mess don't even work"! Because you are trying to install a YouTube player on your device that was not design for your device! We already know, all the downloads works like a charm! Please READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS AND DETAILS before downloading anything, make sure you are installing the correct YOUUTUBE PLAYER "Wizzstar Streaming Media Wizard" for your device! 99% of the time, if the player does not work, HUMAN ERROR IS AT FAULT..........!

The creator of this site is here and on HoFo. He has told me that the majority of the channels are in fact not live. Anyway, all of the streams on that site work with WMP on my Trinity and I don't need any other software.

My program can provide your device with ability to choose your browser when you click on a link. Choose between the following browsers to open your link: Opera Mini 4.1 or 4.0, Opera Mobile and IE. You can click on a link from ANYWHERE - and I do mean anywhere - and it will either ask you which browser you want to use or you can pick a default one and never get prompted until you change that option. It also give you more control over copy/paste. It has clipboard history abilities and much more.

The program has too many features for me to describe here, so you can have a look at the screenshots to give you a taste of what else it can do for you, but for further details check out the links below.

Announcing JZ SmartMort v1.3

The software will enhance your mobile web experience and copy/paste needs, plus lots more. This version has a lot of enhancements, please read the release notes below.

Get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=382043 or on SourceForge (http://sourceforge.net/projects/jzsmartmort)

v1.3 *** 2008-05-25

- Created a CAB file for distribution. If upgrading, please remove or rename the entire JZ folder. To install the CAB your phone will need to be uncertified app-unlocked. You can use this standalone utility: http://www.gpcarreon.com/?p=151

- Mort has allowed me to distribute his FREE MortScript, when you install JZ SmartMort it will place Mort's CAB files in the "MortScript Installs" folder, found underneath your JZ install location. This makes it easier to install all components necessary to run my software w/o having to download more from the web.

- CAB file will create a Start Menu shortcut for JZ Installer.

- Pulled out the .Net executable file from the pack, found a MortScript workaround instead.

- Storing everything in the registry. Optimized scripts for light memory usage and speed.

- Added PPC support to map the JZ Action script to the Application 2 hardware button.

- Added NetFront 3.5 support and verified all Opera Mini versions above 3.1

- Default browser has a timeout now which is user defined, default is 5 seconds.

- Opera Mini enhancements: 8 paste methods, adjust trim units, use different methods to pop the Opera Mini URL input screen and enable/disable "Auto-Complete Address Input"

- Ability to create the Opera Mini shortcut on your Start Menu.

- You can use the action/button mapped script to choose a JBed/Java app from a list. Added a JBed security prompt patcher along with the Application Unlocker which is also a part of the pack.

- HELPERS folder underneath the JZ installation area has scripts to reset device, kill voice notes, list JBed apps to run, Kill IE & Kill MortScript.exe.

- Ability to reset JZ SmartMort settings.

- Ability to select with cursor & copy to the clipboard (will ask how many seconds to allow cursor selection)

Thanks for tip. For Reg I use CE RegEdit v0.0.4.4. Standalone (no install), import, export, backup, & restore from pc. I can't stand! opera mini or mobile which apparently Jz has options for. Google.com/m works great considering the screen is only 240x320. If I had a 640x480 screen I'd still probably use google as it simply uses less realestate, opens in fs without prompting, & has better command of favorites.

Revisions:

v1.4 *** 2008-07-07

- Created help files.

- Browser: Skyfire fully compatible now, new scan/detection with fail-over paths (if browsers references don't exist in the usual locations like the registry). If default browser timeout is set to zero, the JZ Browser prompt will be bypassed entirely.

- Opera Mini: full-screen, kill JBed option, multiple URL & pasting options.

- Lots of new options for button mapping. All known registry and link file button hacks now integrated to allow virtually any command to be called up. Also provides ability to create a CUSTOM link file from scratch.

- Changed menus to include menu-returns for easy navigation and better user friendliness. Added letters to Action menu as qwerty keyboard shortcuts.

- Phone-specific menu under JZ Settings which expands button mapping for BlackJack II (Samsung i617) CV/MediaNet buttons, as well as, AT&T Tilt (HTC Kaiser) PTT & Long-PTT buttons. More will be added.

- Creation of Start Menu shortcuts & opening of JBed applications w/o needing to open JBed first.

- 3 different methods under JZ Settings > JZ Misc. Options for opening Favorites. Save a Favorite from the JZ Browser script when you pop a link.

- Incorporated VitoCopyPaste with a timeout to return your directional pad action button back to normal.

- Various speed & optimization considerations incorporated.

- Function to deal with MortScript losing focus (e.g. when Home is pressed while Mort choice menu is running).

I haven't been successful in installing the HTC Media Streamer onto my WM5 phone. I download a zip file, but what happens after that? I tried copying the unzipped files into the root folder(phone/) directory, but it won't even show up there. I tried the link that contained a .cab file, but the file is no longer available. Am I missing something? Thanks.

for sum reason, when igot my htc touch last year, i was able to find a youtube app that let me download the flv locally to be able to watch em in the subway ( no signal there eh ! )

i recently had to reinstall all in the cell, up to wm6.1 ( like i had before )

now all i can find are many variations of youtube app that dont work as far as downloading...

i really liked packing my sd card on free times, to be able to watch videos when offline! this is frustrating!

is there legal implication preventing people to pursue development of similar downloading apps ?

as of august 2009, anybody knows one that actually works in wm6.1 ?

regards,
