I've been using the Kaiser for a couple of weeks now (a test model) and it rocks!
Previously I had the Hermes, and this one is so much sleeker. Design is better. It is visibly thinner.
The only problem I have is probably with the radio. It doesnt seem to have the same signal I got with the Hermes. (In my office, I used to have 2-3 bars with Hermes. This one gives me 1-2 bars)
Other than that it's awesome!

hey bouaroudj. ive been really excited about the kaiser's qualcomm 7200 graphics chip. ive done comparisons to it and the dell axim's intel 2700 graphics accelerator and the kaiser's is much better. anyway, on a normal 400mhz device COD2 will run just fine. so im sure it will be the same. now what we really need testing is a PS1 emulator, and Quake 3. Those things will really tell us how good the kaiser is. =)

I have tried COD2 and it seems to play fine. My only problem is the touchscreen buttons are off. They are not what they should be, I also need a users manual. It seems like a fun game but my biggest problem is I cant exit when I want to. I have to soft reset it. The pause button does not work. I will reconfigure the buttons to see if that helps.

On the video part of it, everything seems to go smoothly.

As for GPS, I have ordered CoPilot and will let you know how it goes.

What was your reasoning for going with Co-Pilot over TomTom?
I have had TomTom for about a year now, just got map updates back in March and have always considered trying Co-Pilot over TomTom.

Off Topic - Gonna have a really hard decision to make if Kaiser comes out on ATT before T-Mobile gets anything new. I've been with T-Mobile for 10+ years now and have been really frustrated seeing ATT come out with new innovations before T-Mobile. Maybe time to switch!

I know 2 people with Copilot and they really enjoy it. That was the only reason. Not sure about Tom Tom, I didnt check, but CoPilot gives me 30 days if I dont like it. I will try Tom Tom if I dont care for CoPilot, I think its a personal thing. I only need it for vacations as I already have navigation systems in both my cars.

I was also with Tmobile for over 10 years. Just made the switch last week to ATT. I gave it a 2 week trial period first to make sure the service would be ok where I need it most. The Kaiser just got that much better with 3G now. I browse a lot so the faster web is a huge plus. Sling Media is better than ever, no more searching for Wifi spots to watch it.

I reconfigured all of my buttons to my liking on Call of Duty, open the keyboard before starting the game otherwise the touchscreen is off. Game is great now, everything worked as it should. Might have to buy the game now.

Man I want one of these! I'll be very interested in your GPS results as well. I was a big CoPilot user a while back but found that their Tel Atlas maps were not as good/accurate as programs using Navteq maps. I switched to iGuidance from iNav and never looked back. Be sure and wring CoPiolt out within your 30 day trial. I've had about 5 or 6 nav progs so far, Tom Tom is the only one that I haven't tried.

actually this is not true. there is a high quality option and a low quality option. you can still select the high quality option and it will be smooth and look good, but possibly lag on the device. the Intel 2700 accelerator just helps it so it wont lag. it displays more pixels per second.
only thing about this accelerator is you turn it on or off. i believe the kaiser's qualcomm chipset is constant. you dont need to turn it on.

Aaaa, I have had an MDA since March of '06. Wing is a "replcaement", agreed with that.

Wonder if T-Mobile will just continue to try and satisfy the low end crowd and not pursue 'real' advances?!

The AGPS on the Kaiser requires ATT activation. It works with satellites and ATT server in the same time. I tried hard to make it work as a GPS w/o success.
Kaiser comes with a GPS connector in the back
Camera 3Mbps is great but is not as good as digital cameras ( low light )
Radio performance is superior to 8525. Qualcomm chipset 7200 is powerfull
The real new thing will be HSUPA with 2Mbps speed on the uplink ( Dec 07)
Wished they had a larger screen since they have a sliding keyboard. The iphone screen size will definitely influence future HTC designs

Copilot uses tel atlas maps I believe. They don't need a subscription. If CoPilot works, I'd expect most others to work as well, just a comm port juggle I'd guess to get them working.

I'd love to see iNav running on it, it's got a good GPS status screen which shows the number of satellites received and the signal strength of each.

(according to boygenius) it has a 48000Hz sample rate output, and the loudspeaker is loud and crisp. they also said setting it on a desk or hard surface makes it even louder and more crisp.

I have definitely noticed a big improvement with sound on the Kaiser vs my previous TyTn/Cingular 8525.
One of the worst parts of the old one was not being able to hear callers clearly. The Kaiser sounds far better. Not sure about the sample rate but calls are much better/easier to hear.

With the previous generation GPS chip, i had a heck of a time maintaining a signal travelling through Europe. Did not have an issue at all with the latest chip (SirfIII).

Does that GPS also work without data input since i typically try to avoid data when in Europe (to keep cost down)?

How fast does the display turn on when coming out of standby? Sometimes there is an annoying delay when pressing the power key to quickly check the time or calendar info on the TyTN.

Also, I have to say iGuidance iNAV is hands down way better than CoPilot Live. I've used both, and retired CoPilot live a long time ago.

I bought a universal mount for PDA's that you hold the button, the arms open up, putthe device between them and squeeze tightly shut and it holds it in place. Love it! Will work on any pda!

Someone with a Kaiser, please tell me this. How is the Microphone?

The Cingular 8525 has an annoying microphone. It's way too (extremely) sensitive to background noise. For instance you can hear people across the room as well as you can the person talking on it. It's very distracting to the people on the other end of your call. There is only 1 thing wrong with the Hermes, and that's the mic. sensitivity.

Did they fix this on the Kaiser. How does a person sound when they're talking on it on a phone call? How do they sound to the person on the other end?

This is the one thing I must know before I jump on to the Kaiser when it comes (subsidized thankyouvermuch, thank God for Premiere) to AT&T.

Thanks.

Anyone have an answer for this? What about screen rotation--my Hermes takes FOREVER!!!

My Kaiser's display coming out of standby is as fast as with my TyTN. The screen draws with the password buttons quickly... then drawing the today screen is fast (but slow the first time after a boot). I didn't experience much slowness on my TyTN though.

The screen rotates within .5 seconds, whether playing a sound or not. Also cool is that it will come out of standby when you slide the keyboard out - no need to push the power button.

Speaking of the power button, it's more recessed than the one on the TyTN, and (to my fingers anyway) harder to push.

Well i didnt want one but do now. I know by the time i get one some other new hotness will come out with like no buttons on the front just all screen and a slide out keyboard. I've had my 8525 since the day it came out so i guess after a year it may be time to put it to pasture. Get this i told my girl i wanted it and she talking bout give her my 8525...and would believe she got offended when i said 250...women. 250 is a pretty go deal but anyway

no buttons? thats too iPhone-ish for me. i mean id like atleast a D pad and maybe 2 softkeys. I mean a screen only means you need to reserve space on the screen for buttons. lets say if you were playing a game where hte screen is vertical. you couldnt use the keyboard too easily then. and even if you could it would look very funny in public.

thats why i like to have some buttons on the front.

well that sounds like it would be great for taking videos! perhaps a better request would be you can toggle between this. for video taking purposes.

Now only if it would be launched now, would buy it in a heartbeat. :D

I hope they launch it soon.

Many thanks mikeeey

just clearing that up. most people will get TouchFLO mixed up. it's only the finger movement, which makes things easier. Then the screen helps too, but that would be called a TouchFLO screen. although on modaco it was said the touchFLO screen is hard to see in the sunlight.

Ram is definitely 128MB

128 RAM, but how much of that is user accessible? Any RAM leaks?

looking at the specs of the Vogue, and looking at the Kaiser, I see no difference except the keyboard. I have the Touch (amazing device) which is so much smaller. Why is the Kaiser so much bigger?

The Touch comes with a standard LCD display, it isn't trans-reflective so is difficult/impossible to see in sunlight. This isn't connected with it being TouchFLO.

The Kaiser will have a trans-reflective LCD so regardless if it has TouchFLO or not, it will be good for outside.

I don't know where did you get inf. about "The Touch", the www.pdadb.net in spec. says: Display Type:color transflective TFT 16 bit/pixel (65536 scales). And I hope Kaiser will be with real transflective display. Otherwise it will be also rubbish.

Hi

I haven't used one, but going by complaints of it being difficult to read outside and the complete lack of mention of "trans-reflective" on the HTC website specs for the phone, I've assumed it must be a normal TFT.

With trans-reflective displays the brighter the sunlight the easier it is to read, at least on ones I have used.

Cool, thanks for clearing it up.
But I do hope the screen is visible in the sunlight as I live in that part of the world where sunlight is abundant, much to my chagrin. ;)

I reconfigured all of my buttons to my liking on Call of Duty, open the keyboard before starting the game otherwise the touchscreen is off. Game is great now, everything worked as it should. Might have to buy the game now.[/QUOTE]
cool! im ver interested in how Quake 3 runs. Paul from MoDaCo tried it but it didnt run on his kaiser. perhaps yours is different tho. would you mind trying?

Quake 3 port:
http://www.gameszone.ro/download/id/83948 (aparently it was just recently updated too!)

That's exactly the problem with Titan/Mogul as well. Can you upload the AudioPara.csv file? Kaiser and Mogul have similar hardware specs and I'd like to compare it to my Mogul's.

Must be kidding. pdadb also says my Trinity has a transflective TFT LCD too - but the more sunlight it has, the more difficult it is to look at.

Don't cross you fingers.
