... special help.

I'm sorry, I'm really not tech savvy. I'm leaving for Europe in 2 days and I needed my 8525 unlocked so I could use an Italian SIM card while I'm there ... So I ran the program, the tri-color screen showed up on my phone and it's been there for a while. Does this step take a while or should I be worried about my phone? Now I did something stupid after. I accidentally closed the cmd screen with the instructions, so now it's back to "Rom Upgrade utility will start now, bla bla ... check the 'I understand' and 'I completed ...' boxes and update!" Now, those boxes haven't appeared, and it's been 15 minutes. At the beginning of this, the instruction said to make sure there's at least 50% of battery left, so I assume that means this step takes long and it's not that I've messed up? Please please help I'm kinda freaking out here ...

P.S. You guys are fantastic! Honestly ... thank you for this, and I promise I shall donate if this works. ;-)

What is a "brick" [besides the orange-ish stuff we use to build homes] and why am I flashing my phone?

Also, I'm not sure which part of the process it's stuck in. It doesn't say anything about the tri-color screen?

As I said I'm in leaving in 2 days, and there's 27 things on my to-do list. Reading that whole thread and learnign how to unlock my phone may take up hours which I don't have to spare right now.

I'd really appreciate it if someone would be willing to help, I will donate in exchange but if you can't and all the advice you have to offer is "search the threads" then ... well, I'd be quite disappointed but I guess it'll do.

Now, if you're feeling too irritable to help, please, for the sake of someone who is already nearing a nervous breakdown, is it safe for me to unplug my phone right now (with the tri-color screen still active on the phone) and soft-reset it, or will it risk messing up my phone ... which means I should leave it alone?

Thanks a million.

You're a star.

Right then, what text is displayed on the bootloader screen? (the tri colour screen you are on now)

At the very top, there's a red box that takes up 1/4 of the screen.

It says:

HERM100
IPL-SSPL by Des

HERM100
SPL-1.09.ds

The second 1/4 of the screen below the red is green, followed by blue, then at the very bottom a white block that says "USB".

Thank you. Sorry I've just got so much to deal with right now ... I didn't mean to snap.

Soft reset the device, see if it boots up normally.

It did boot up normally, it's working fine now.

Shall I restart the process or leave it be?

probably best to leave it be, when you get back from your holiday take some time to read through the wiki and the relevant threads before continuing. If you read up you will know what to expect and what to do if the unexpected happens, will save the panic ;)

My holiday's going to be until September the 17th. I need the phone ... for the holiday. So I can get local numbers wherever I go. :-/

Best thing might be to buy a right POS mobile there?

Thanks ... figured it out. :-D

I did have a backup POS phone, too ... this one's just the one I keep if I wanna stay organized, pretty important on a trip.

Its not that hard to SIM unlock a hermes there is a sticky I believe with the app or just search for hermes CID unlocking. make sure you choose to SIM unlock not CID. hell run both CID and SIM unlock won't hurt anything. also before you do anything flash SPL7 on your phone if you don't know what it is search also!

Austinsync,

Now I am confused  and obviously need to read even more but if you could spare a few moments then you'd save me a great deal of time. I already have HardSPL(7) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722) from OliPro and thought that this had effecively CID unlocked my device to allow me to flash non-T-Mobile (my provider) ROMs onto the device- I checked and Olipro lists SuperCID as a core Hard-SPL feature.

I have seen lots of SIM and CID unlocking and understand that but has the HardSPL effectively rendered much of that advice on CID unlocking advice unecessary? I have seen someone (on the WM6 Hermes Forum) indicate that HardSPL 'temporarily' CID unlocked the device!

Any comments welcome :) - just hope I've not been too lapse in only reading about a thousand pages...
