Does anyone knows which size, resolution, type (JPEG, GIF, PNG) it's needed on the cube for the contact picture ?

I tried 100x100 Gif, JPEG and PNG, the quality on the cube is very bad !!!

I use pics taken from the Touch's camera. Crop them to "head" size and then use them as contact images. They get automatically resized and are actually very good quality wise.

That is...until they get synched with an exchange server.....

Nope, I sync with exchange and the pics remain

Hmmm....all the pics I have taken with the Touch are still fine when added immediately to the cube (and later synced). However, all my old contacts with pics which were already in Outlook and synced with my new Touch all produce lousy quality pics on the cube....

I took the opportunity to take new pics anyway...time to update ;)

I think the resolution should be 240x320. Thats what the camera takes when you select Contacts Picture mode, and the pictures on the Cube looks good.

I've made a screen capture of the cube contacts screen.
The contact pictures resolution is 72x75 for each picture.

But when i make a new picture of 72x75, i do not see the pixels at the bottom of my picture.

Strange behaviour, why is my picture resized, it should not be !

so what is the best way to do it?

I too sync with exchange, and the pictures are bad quailty - should i add the pictures on the phone?

i don't sync with exchange server and it displays a bad image quality....
i guess it tries to render the small image that it's created for the contacts...

Add pics to phone and map to contacts....then sync and see...

The pics which were not in my phone (storage card) turned out crap). It seems that the Touch will use the display pic saved in phone for its PIM functions. If it has to dowload it from an exchange server, it gives one that is much lower in relosution.....try that and see

Umm this resolution does not help at all my pictures are fuzzy even if I take them from the camera and don't sync or anything. I have tried everything and they are still fuzzzy what do I have to do?

I was having problem as well with the pictures but I finally tried a portrait picture and it worked perfectly. I changed the contact pictures I had in an image editing software so that they were al taller than they were long (portrait) and they are no longer blurry.

I tried this but still no joy, does anyone know the exact size? I think 240x320 is the actuall screen size, so the images are still being resized when added to the contacts. The contact image size should be roughly 70x80pixs....

Picture Quality in
QuickDial Screen Method Used

100% PocketCM>Person>Set Pictures...>w320_h240.PNG/BMP

100% PocketCM>Person>Set Pictures...>w240_h320.PNG/BMP

60% PocketCM>Person>Set Pictures...>w72_h75.PNG/BMP
(low res. = not enough pixel information)

50% BuiltinWM6ContactList>Person>Edit>Change picture...>w240_h320.PNG/BMP

10% BuiltinWM6ContactList>Person>Edit>Change picture...>w72_h75.PNG/BMP

Note: w320_h240.PNG, w320_h240.BMP, w72_h75.PNG, w72_h75.BMP are copies made from a photo, and transfered into external memory.

Thanks to PocketCM for solving this annoying quality problem.

The contacts picture sizes are all clearly stated on the Touch Manual. I know that no one reads the manuals often (including myself) but here what it says (Page 160 of the English HTC Touch Manual) :)

Contacts Picture / Capture size setting:
Large (480x640)
Medium (240x320)
Small (120x160)

All the resolutions give sharp and crisp pictures on the Cube no matter if taken with the Touch camera or imported through ActiveSync after cropped/resized on your PC to the above resolutions.

How come? The ration of 72*75 is 0.96 which is close to a square, but the Touch's screen is 240*320 indeed but the ratio is 0.72 which is a rectangluar. There is a Contact Picture mode in the camera should be a chopping mode which use a max resolution close to 240*320.
