View Full Version : WiFi Router/Access Point Software?

It strikes me that a WiFi equiped Windows Mobile phone (particularly 3G) has all the hardware and processing power needed to act as a WiFi access point or even a full router. This would be a lot easier method of getting cellular internet access for a laptop than the traditional modem emulator approach, and would also be a lot more versitile, for example allowing simultaneous access to several PC's.
Is there any software or projects in hand to do this? Would be complicated of course, but I guess a lot of the necessary components are available for other platforms as open-source which could be ported.

This is something I asked for in german forums long time ago.
Why it isn't possible to select Wifi for Internet Sharing. This would make it easy to connect many PCs and XBoxes and Playstations with Internet easily.

Will this be available in the near future? Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) with the build in WiFi feature?
I use the HTC Tytn and have some equipment only with WiFi support. Nintendo DS Lite (Maybe the latency will kill me in games :) ) and a Archos 604 WiFi player.
Best Regards Tom

Any news with this? It would be really cool to share GPRS/UMTS over wifi... using my DS in a cab would be great! :D

Yes, can somebody create a cab like Internet Connection Sharing but with WiFi to select. The Hardware should be able to do this.
It's really bad now to have Internet over GPRS/HSDPA but not be able to share on many PC or Playstations/XBox360s!

Wow, this thread died a couple years ago... has anything aside from walkinghotspot or winmo wifirouter come along that can do this task without costing money or burning the cell phone into oblivion after 30 seconds of use!?!? Thanks :)

Yeah I know about that app, saw it last week... still can't get it to work like a lot of people. I would surmise that's why wifi router is $29, and this is free.
Also, your grammar above was deplorable, what gives?

I'm guessing his grammar is not top notch because he is german... I bet his English grammar is 100 times better than your German grammar. Just remember you are in an INTERNATIONAL forum and not everyone speaks proper English.

that is just the dumbest thing to say. there are many many free softwares available in this forum for free, and they are way better than any commercial offering. most of the applications here aren't even available if you were to have money to spend for it.
by the way, the htc wifi router software isnt free. if you buy an htc phone, chances are you have paid for it. if you dont own an htc device, i dont think htc would be happy about you using their software for free.
also, please have an open minded. with any internet forum, anyone in the world can participate and become a member. there are people all over the world that english isnt their first language. i hope you know this, so please excuse their english grammatical errors.
