Well, I thought I could finish the WM5 series with a working Internet Sharing. I'm so sorry, it's quite buggy. I'm releasing this ROM because it is more stable than the previous one and I'll be working on newer grounds. :D Hope you enjoy this one.

KNOWN BUG: Internet Sharing application is not working. WM5 AKU3.X no longer supports modem link.

For those of you who have downloaded and flashed using SD Card method who ended up in a brick! ITEX recovers his Atom by following procedure:
1. remove SD Card
2. remove battery
3. hold camera button and reset (stylus) button
4. replace battery while still holding the buttons
This will bring you back to bootloader mode. Just flash the above DSUU.

Okay Guys. Here is a ROM for testing purposes only. The Atom Life AKU3.3 is very much stable compared to the BENQ P51 AKU3.5 when ported to our XDA Atom.

WARNING: It is possible that you can brick your device with this ROM. Use it at your own risk! This is for XDA Atom ONLY.

UPGRADE PROCEDURE:

Your device battery must be at least 80% charged.
Enter into boot loader mode: POWER+DPAD(center)+RESET (simultaneous)
Connect device to PC using USB
Run the original ROM update Xda-Atom-ENG-20060426-MOT0822.exe
On the Welcome window, click <next>
Unzip attached nb0 file into C:\Windows\Temp Folder (overwrite existing file)
Proceed upgrading and follow on screen instructions.


Notes: Don't ask me why the upgrade is like this. I'm no cracker, and the ATOM_Software_Update_Utility.exe needs to be hacked. (someone needs to crack it. if you know how to do it PM me.) After a successful update, the device will automatically perform a hard reset. When you see the green Windows Mobile Screen and the message flashes to tap the screen, please wait for five (5) seconds before tapping.

However, when installing O2 Plus, I realized that I cannot add to the shortcuts tab a programs that resides inside the new directories.

This is a bug of O2+. You can do 2 ways to solve this:
1. move all program shortcuts to the where it originally is using File Explorer. OR
2. use CLaunch. A very flexible and freeware today launcher.

Found a way to hide SIM contacts from outlook but not other phone apps like Address Book, PocketBreeze, Agenda One, etc.

Use a registry editor and navigate to HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone and add a new DWORD value named "ShowSim" and set it to 0...

Anyways, this rom is very fast.

I didn't make any shortcuts because not all would like to use them. Intellipad will come out when you make keyboard entries, select options you will see phonepad (t9). Jeyo and TaskManager is found in the \Windows.

To create shortcut, open file explorer:
1. Goto \Windows
2. Look for Jeyo...exe
3. Copy
4. Goto \Windows\Start Menu\Programs
5. Paste as shortcut

For TaskManager, just run the exe at \Windows. Then Click Menu, create Pgm Shortcuts. It will automatically create shortcuts in Programs -> System subfolder.

These stuff that I added in would not consume persistent storage; so, it does not matter if its there or not. All the stuff you added after hard reset does consume persistent storage. This is the whole idea of built-in apps (to save precious persistent storage. HTC-X button / new menu is disabled by default, Jeyo & TaskManager are just executables found in \Windows. You wouldn't even notice them if you don't use them. Mostly have no registry entries until you run the app.

Anyway, I will try to create a ROM Kitchen for this, once I solved the midi file issue. That way everyone can cook their own ROM the way they want it.

Well a lot of combinations. BUT first, you should know what you are doing... you may screw up your device. You can use the Scoter Kitchen. It's mostly there. PKGtool.exe and XIPport.exe by bepe.

I had just upgraded the ROM. As of now i dun see too much different although i can feel abit of speed boost ;)
I do understand many people installed different 3rd party softwares that might had conflict with each other rather than with the problem with the upgrade itself so just wanna contribute abit in term of compatible issues as i had tried many many softwares. Hope it help everyone where who is using XDA ATOM only!!

<<My must install list for Today Screen>> so far no problem nor conflicts
1. Spb Phone Suite v1.1 (Good missed call/sms reminder and quick access to bluetooth and phone switch plus quick photo dial)
2. Spb Diary 2.5 (Good organizer for calender/sms/contact/birthday on Today screen and i find it so good that i uninstall Agenda One)
3. Wisbar advance 3 (previous version is much more resource hungry but somehow this beta ver is more stable and much faster, i used theme "Vista Dream" and "Iphone")
4. Resco Today plugin (very small appz with all what i need battery/RAM/Storage indicator with shortcuts, I used compact skin to save space for Spb diary)

same radio as mine, but I don't have that problem. Could you try to hard reset and not install auto configurator. Observe if it still has that problem. What's your mobile network btw?

hi jigs...i think i found another bugs, i tried to delete one of my previous games which is on my Memory card but it hungs up the ATOM, and stop responding.

Could you please clarify. You have a game that was previously installed on the Memory Card, and you deleted it, but it hangs up. Okay... I'll do just the same. I have a game installed on the memory card previously, and I will delete it.

the problem is the function of a button to call/end call doesnt go to voice rec. if press..
and i cant redial/call too..the only thing i can do i hung-up/end call..

but there is no hardware button for that..because that is for bluetooth headset..

This is a long shot. Could you try installing this on your ATOM. Sorry, I don't have a headset to verify... This is a problem with porting. The device drivers were not meant for the new OS; so, it's expected that some might not be compatible. Basically, I'm taking drivers the drivers from another device for the same OS. Hope this works!

Simple, don't copy the new diskimage_ver.nb0. Just run through the ROM update and you will be back to the OLD ROM.

This is a long shot. Could you try installing this on your ATOM. Sorry, I don't have a headset to verify... This is a problem with porting. The device drivers were not meant for the new OS; so, it's expected that some might not be compatible. Basically, I'm taking drivers the drivers from another device for the same OS. Hope this works!

actually no metal case....just using a normal plastic to cover up the entire ATOM. but thinks so far it is still OK can put my phone on my other table to get a signal.

Jigs..for the games i mention it is billiard ( this games i install before i flash my ROM with the AKU 3.3 ), tried to delete some of your old program files in your memory card....any one has a same trouble...

But this problem never mindlah..can easily delete when syncronize. one thing for sure AS 4.5 no problemo with the AKU 3.3

OKAY. There is a bug with bluetooth services (serial port is not working) AND yes, AKU 3.3 is supposed to have PAN. Unfortunately, we need a driver for this because our driver only supports AKU 2.2. However, ActiveSync functionality works okay; so, you can send and receive files using this with your bluetooth.

Your the third to report this issue with regards to signal. Funny thing is, I don't have that problem. I don't know if it has something to do with your Mobile Network Customization run by Auto Configurator... What I suggested with the two other guys is to hard reset and not install Auto Configurator and observe if it is still the same. That way, we can zero in with your local mobile custom settings because that's the only thing now that differs between our phones. Hope you'll get back on this.

I have not done this, but this is what he reported. It is possible that it reacts differently with this different ROM now. I would suggest you search for Extended ROM Kitchen. There is a topic which discusses this on how you can open the extended ROM and alter its contents.

i dont wanna open another topic..its JIGGS work not mine i just modified something to do more updated and bug fixs..but if JIGGS say to open my own i will..:D it works great i use the rom for 2days i just only see 2 problems the bluetooth ability and speakerphone mode..thats for now..i will upload my modified rom here so nobody will freak out to jiggs how i do it..:eek:

I was getting feedback on phone calls that I hadnt experienced with other roms (ie. a lite buzzing sound in the earpiece) so I reflashed and didnt solve the problem, ended up overwritting Atom Exec rom (Xda-Atom-Exec-ENG-20060721-MOT0822) with your Atom Life files, Bluetooth is still a little strange, cannot initiate pairing from the Atom to PC only visa versa, but Phone now 100% and no issue with screen flicker if battery removed....ofcourse no CPU speed increase either but in my case the rom is more stable.

Sorry, I don't understand Russian. But the way I look at it, you haven't gone far yet. Use Scoter Kitchen to develop the ROM. after dumping use PKGTOOL (not Scoter tool) by bepe. Modify XIP with XIPport.exe by bepe. I can't do it for you because I don't have XDA Atom Exec to test on. Things could be different with your device. <<<Read everything in the Scoter Kitchen - it's very informative!>>>>

You also need to know the basics of ROM cooking... go here: Cooking with IMGFS tools (http://www.buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_phorum&Itemid=125&phorum_query=read,26,27196)
Ignore the encrypt-decrypt ROM as well as checksum updates, our XDA Atom ROM is not encrypted.

I checked your file, it still has the same ROM from mine except the extended ROM and the Radio ROM (from XDA Atom Exec?) I need to know what caused the midi to play again. Definitely, it's not found in the extended ROM.

1. So, what are the softwares, that you have installed?
2. Have you tried installing worldmate and code wallet? because it generates an error saying it's not intended for this device.

Since, I didn't get a response from you yet. I flashed your ROM, and these are the results:
1. The phone signal seem much more stable!
2. worldmate and code wallet generates error as stated above.
3. MIDI still does not play (So, please list your apps in order to see what caused it do so. Better yet, export your whole registry using TaskManager and send it to me in order to fix this problem)

Do u get the "The system cannot find the file specified" when you start the OBEX server? If so, then it means the dll file OBEXSrVr.dll is missing from your \Windows folder.

I checked your file, it still has the same ROM from mine except the extended ROM and the Radio ROM (from XDA Atom Exec?) I need to know what caused the midi to play again. Definitely, it's not found in the extended ROM.

1. So, what are the softwares, that you have installed?
2. Have you tried installing worldmate and code wallet? because it generates an error saying it's not intended for this device.

Since, I didn't get a response from you yet. I flashed your ROM, and these are the results:
1. The phone signal seem much more stable!
2. worldmate and code wallet generates error as stated above.
3. MIDI still does not play (So, please list your apps in order to see what caused it do so. Better yet, export your whole registry using TaskManager and send it to me in order to fix this problem)

I do not get missing file error. Error is:

You are right about the serial service driver. However, I think it is device specific because this driver is found in the OEM section, BUT I will try to check if this will work.

when you reflash your ROM, just unzip the attached file into the ..\temp directory stated in Post 1 prior to updating.

If you just export your registry first prior to flashing, I can trace it already. Just use taskmanager.exe to export all your registry.

If i only backup PIM and restore, SMS is OK but contact have bug! When lcik "contact" button or any shotcut, it show contact in near 0.5 second and turn to desktop (still run in background). If i try to see, there are no contact in that ! Beside that, call history is ok with name, time, number ...

After uprade, when sync, PC say there is not enough memory on PPC to import sync !!! But i just sync contact !

i think the file you are saying is corrupted..it doesnt need in there..the one that our mobile uses are the WAVE files..have you ever played that in your PC? it doesnt play on my PC..only one works the calldrop.mid in my pc not ppc..i think the MIDI problem solved..

jiggs you must delete that *.mid files in \windows folder and in your ROM..it doesnt need there and we dont need that corrupted files..

Sorry, I was confused with homer... He flashed it using ATOM EXEC DSUU... I'm still waiting for his response which combination of files he use. Based on his description, he had stabler phone signal, which means the RADIO is from ATOM EXEC....

sorry jiggs, I hadn't noticed you responded to that, well after a week running the Atom Life rom the most underlying problem is the radio stack, the phone continually freezes at least twice a day with the Atom or Atom Exec Radio Stack. We all appreciate your work and realize this release is in its beta stage, for now I have reverted back to Exec rom. Oh and to answer your question.... all I did was was execute the Exec rom then overwrite the Win/temp files with your Atom Life package.

Okay Guys. Here is a ROM for testing purposes only. The Atom Life AKU3.3 is very much stable compared to the BENQ P51 AKU3.5 when ported to our XDA Atom.

WARNING: It is possible that you can brick your device with this ROM. Use it at your own risk! This is for XDA Atom ONLY. (NOT XDA ATOM EXEC!)

UPGRADE PROCEDURE:

Your device battery must be at least 80% charged.
Enter into boot loader mode: POWER+DPAD(center)+RESET (simultaneous)
Connect device to PC using USB
Run the original ROM update Xda-Atom-ENG-20060426-MOT0822.exe
On the Welcome window, click <next>
Unzip attached nb0 file into C:\Windows\Temp Folder (overwrite existing file)
Proceed upgrading and follow on screen instructions.


Notes: Don't ask me why the upgrade is like this. I'm no cracker, and the ATOM_Software_Update_Utility.exe needs to be hacked. (someone needs to crack it. if you know how to do it PM me.) After a successful update, the device will automatically perform a hard reset. When you see the green Windows Mobile Screen and the message flashes to tap the screen, please wait for five (5) seconds before tapping.

yes u can upgrade with this one. but the only problem with this is bluetooth. even i also upgrade with his rom on my atom pure. everything is working fine but when i had try to recive any of from other mobile device via bluetooth i cant even i cheacked every settings and ofcourse beam recive settings too but i got error ' uneble to connect', so better u try on your mobile and share your suggetion if u cant get success than re upgrade with atom original rome what i had done on my atom...

I didn't answer because, I tested only the ATOM. Some guys from the ATOM EXEC says its successful... some toasted their ATOM EXEC. So, use it at your own risk. If you want to try, just follow the steps using the ATOM Exec official update ROM.

No. Definitely NOT. Some things needed to be changed in the ROM prior to flashing it to our device.

I used PPCbckpContacts for PIM backup and Jeyo SMS for SMS backup. It works with any OS version. PIM database is different from AKU 2.2 & AKU 3.3. You can not use full backup from old OS program installation because we updated the OS. You have to reinstall all apps again.

Now, i know that is because of the difference of 2.2 and 3.3 . However, sometime when i soft reset by taskmanager (iLauncher), after boot , it's freezing !

Guys, I can't help you solve any problem, if you won't give me inputs. You need to tell me exactly what you did with your device prior to posting that there is a problem. I have been using my ROM with the Atom Exec radio for almost a week now, and I haven't encountered any problems. The only app I installed is TCPMP & Resco Explorer as I am testing different apps.

I got freezes due to Atom Exec worldmate and codewallet, but after removing them everything is ok.

This ROM is beta which means it has not been fully tested in all scenarios; SO, you have to record what works and what causes not to work; then we will see how to solve the problem. If you will just post your problem without a background, no one can help you.

It is best that you install an application one by one and check that app if it is fully working before adding another app; so, it will be easy to trace what causes the problem.

I understand your point that no one can help me if I don't provide any input; however, I can't really think what exactly input it should be.

That's because I never install worldmate, codewallet.

In addition, I have also installed and test application by application and it works fine for me almost a week. Then, it suddenly freezing without any new program install or new today plugin loading. That's because I never install worldmate, codewallet.

In addition, I have also installed and test application by application and it works fine for me almost a week. Then, it suddenly freezing without any new program install or new today plugin loading. inputs would be: what are your current apps installed, what are the running apps right before the crash, what are the startup apps... For most of the time, our device would not freeze without any reason.

My very first suspect is that your device ran out of RAM. If your device would approach 20MB or less program memory, it will crash. You can experiment with this by surfing a lot of pages using your pocket pc - it will come to a point that it will crash. This is one of the reasons why the Atom Life's program memory was increased.

Second, programs left running in the background also causes memory leaks, that's why I included x-button app; so that, when enabled, programs will really close when closed. Want to know if there are memory leaks? check your RAM level from time to time without any other program usage.

Third, our device, whether we like it or not, is really slow; such that, upon soft reset, it takes 1 min and 10 sec before it is even ready to be used despite the fact that you can already see the today screen at 40 sec. Imagine the load of startup apps in addition to the normal boot. If we start using our device while it is still loading the startup apps, I guarantee you, it will freeze.

I hope your are not offended if I ask for more inputs. In the absence of the device at hand, it is very difficult to imagine and anticipate what happen to your device. I wouldn't want to end up giving you advices not suited to your needs.

It use to run some function utilities of mobile operator. They provide some utilities in the SIM Card. I can run some menu from mobile operator from that menu for checking balance, request some promotion, mobile banking, and etc.

However, there's something missing. I can't find the Sim Contacts transfer tool (and copy-pastaing in Contacts doesn't work, simply creates a dupe in the Sim). The smartdialer I use won't recognize anything unless the stuff is imported from Sim.

Oh, and I use custom boot splash screens on my device. Is the one on your ROM the system boot screen (which AFAIK I can't change), or the WM5 boot screen (which I can)?

What smartdialer is this?

This is webpatrick's smartdialer and dialpad replacement (Bigkey Black v1.3 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1087670&postcount=286 ). It does work, but only after I specifically have an entry in the PPC memory - in which case, it would generate dupe entries. Otherwise it won't associate a dialed number with a name. This has been a problem even with O2's optional smartdialer - so I think it's an innate flaw with WM5.


and what is your method for changing boot screens, so i'll know if it's working in this ROM?

I didn't exactly replace the boot screen in Atom - the only thing I could overwrite was the welcomehead96.png, which is the WM5 boot screen.

As far as I known, Atom Pure is just a limited edition of Atom that has white color. For others, it is the same as Atom. Since Atom does not have any official update from O2, I assume that there is not any for Atom Pure, too.

Thanks for the link, but that link points to SIP, I'm referring to having put the new kernel files which is in the XIP section of the ATOM ROM. I found a great tool though in the Himalaya & Andes Section of this forum entitled One Step Closer to WM6 for this purpose. It is promising though, but entails a lot of work hours... :(

Also, the midi playback problem isn't completely gone yet - although I can still assign and play midis in the sounds/notifications setup, WMP9 returns a "function does not exist". (Not a big problem, since I use TCPMP anyway, but take note).
