hi, i have a G3 prophet but my ipl, spl, and radio version is kind of a decade old (version 1.xxxx). i've just upgrade my prophet to PDAVIET 4.0.0.4 WM6 and everything seems to run fine, except some wifi connection drop problem and mms problem, do i need to upgrade my ipl, spl, and radio?

what is actually the direct benefit in upgrading them?

thank you very much.

I am also very interested to know what the direct benefits are. I'm running a G4 @ 2.13.0001 ipl and spl.

I've been looking around for info on how to upgrade / where to get upgraded files, and what the point is, but haven't found any good info.

I see there is an IPL upgrade to 2.20 stickied in this forum. Will it also update SPL? If not should SPL be updated? Can IPL 2.20 be used with spl 2.13? Can someone please post some info on this stuff, as its the one thing I really know nothing about.

Thanks guys.

i'm living in HongKong, and currently having PDAViet 4.0.0.3 running on my 818pro. I had try different Radio Rom from original v2.19.21 to v2.69.21, and found that simply the latest v2.69.21 is not the best for the area, i cannot send sms and bettery running fast, and end up using the v2.61.21. so i guess the best way is to try them one by one, since update Radio Rom will not affect your system(its simply like the driver for your computer device, it won't touch your personal data).

and for the IPL & SPL, i've upgraded the IPL from v1.00 to v2.20, but do not notice any difference...

I am using 2.47.21. This is quite bad in my area. I keep losing signal where other phones (Nokia, Samsung etc) on the same network still have 1 or 2 bars... I'm gonna try 2.69.21

Basically IPL and SPL acording to this from somwhere google found, mean initial program loader and second program loader...

i upgraded to ipl/spl 2.20 from 2.09 and now the system boots much faster. and i think it responds a little better.
radio rom 2.47 seems to work perfectly for me (at 1800 mhz) i think it solved a bluetooth transfer problem (can't confirm) and it does not drain my batt.

IPL/SPL is like BIOS

IPL init Hardware

SPL is the Bootloader ... he jumps in the OS after Access the DOC he also starts the radio on the 2nd cpu core.

newer IPL/SPL is for system start speed up ... some hardware issue ...

Radio rom ... Provider network compatiblity

i guess your question is concerning data on your device.
when flashing ipl, spl, os, gsm, splash screen, last command is ResetDevice.
device will reboot.
with ipl, spl, splash screen, gsm data flashing, your data on device will remain intact.
when you re-flash os DOC will be re-initialized, you will lose data (except data stored on a card of course).
regards,

re: one of the reason when manufacture upgrades spl is improve security.
you will not notice dramatical change (read any change) by re-flashing ipl, spl.
