i have downloaded the file for the forum http://www.aczua.com/Athena_upgrade.rar
And then i try to upgrade with the windows.
nb from RUU_Athena_HTC_WWE_1.25.405.2_1.38.00.
Then it doesn't work so i install the 2 cabs EnableRapi.cab and Cert_SPCS.cab and i switch my phone ten second and switch on.
Then actyvesync recognize my phone.
And then i execute UpgradeRom.bat all go fine but three minutes later it stops because activesync stop.
Thus when i reset my phone boots i see the t mobile logo and it stops (once again) on the tmobile wallpaper.
I don't see the windows mobile logo.
To switch off i need to remove the battery.
So i try to upgrade my rom with a tmobile dutch rom :
i make a reset with a pression of the camera button.
When i am in the bootloader (green,red,blue..)
I execute the RUU_Athena_TMO_DE_1.12.111.6_1.32.00.00_Ship.exe
i go to grey screen it starts flashing and at 1% it reset and i have a message of error because of cid lock.
I tried with other rom the same thing.
But i don't manage to have a t mobile uk rom.

The above means that I first need to read out the proper code, so I tried pdocread.

After starting pdocread -1, the error message is:

try restarting your device, or restart activesync

Manually copying itsutils.dll to the device does not make any difference ...

Word of warning: I just did it. Being a very experienced flasher, I nevertheless managed to BRICK my X7500. My X7500 is now stuck a a grey screen saying "Loading ....."

It will not go back into bootloader mode, clearing the storage or microdrive does not change that. The bootloader is gone, so from here I have no options left I'm afraid.

Connected again to pc and restarted the utility without further problems.

If you guys have CID unlocked your device you can have some help from me :rolleyes: My device was T-mobile Dutch, but I now use any ROM. If it hangs on white screen, just remove mini sd card and flash with any available ROM. I have gone through all the WWE ROMs floating b. There is also a "recovery"thread in this forum so you may also want to read it. Will edit this post with link when I find it.

the imei check tool you do have to pay... and they assign you a key based on your imei number...

you need to go to www.imei-check.co.uk, pay 20 pounds and get the unlock application and key. then you connect your device via activesync,and run unlocker. it will ask you for unlock file(provided by website), select it and then cid unlocked device with you. have done all this. now how do i flash? just connect via acctivesync and run flasher or need to do something more?

Unlock for all operators is not CID by default. SIM unlock is totally different. :rolleyes:

Having read through the thread, I THINK I'm ready to proceed....... but a bit nervous and don't want to waste anyone's time by pleeding for help if I brick it.

I'm assuming from Victor that I'm SuperCID as I unlocked with IMEI-Check, I'm a T-Mobile Ameo (UK) so I have downloaded the ATHE_WM6_FLASHER.rar and I think I am ready to go with the boot loader.

Any last words of advice or general wisdom?

Ohhh, and one last thing..... what is on the X7500 ROM or the T-Mobile Rom that is not on the WM6 Rom and visa versa? If one is SuperCID and therefore has the choice of ROMs, which would be the best to use or has the most features for a UK Ameo which now lives (very happily thank you) in Spain?

Did you actually try to pay IMEI-Check? They tell you they need all that stuff, but if you just proceed then then accept the payment anyway!!! They did with me early yesterday anyway!

Just to confirm, I've just tried to update my T-Mobile Ameo (UK) without CID unlocking, the update starts and at 1% displays an Invalid ID so CID is required.

Those people who have flased their devices is there any chance of some screenshoots, is the front screen any better, ie smaller title bars?

I decided to go the secure way with my Dutch X7500, so even though my X7500 was already simunlocked, it was CID-locked anyway.

I therefore paid up the 20 GBP to IMEI-Check.co.uk and went trhough the procedure which worked flawlessly. It even automatically generates the unlock file after having paid through Paypal, so no need waiting until someone sends you the file.

After that, flashing to WM6 went without a hitch, and I have just seen the first mail coming in ....

There are specific files for the Htc Advantage or Tmobile Ameo, If you don't have one of these devices, you have two options

the 2nd file for Devices that have been unlocked and have supercid (see IMEIcheck.com solution

or the first file using the Athena_upgrade program that is listed in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311621
read the entire thread.

Before flashing you should read the wiki(s) and the appropriate threads.

If you happen to brick your device you have nobody to blame but yourself. If you do brick your device, there are many suggestions and threads that discuss how to bring you device back to life.

All I can say is I am happy to be running WM6 again and appreciate the pre-release posting...thanks again

For other Dopod U1000 users, remember to make your device supercid first!

... and superCIDing is easy. Just spend the 20GBP and have IMEI check unlock/superCID your device. Even if your device is already simlockfree, getting rid of the CID is worth the money.

Yes! I can second that, I had to buy the Unlock Code from IMEI check in order to flash my Chinese Dopod U1000 with ATHE_WM6_FLASHER, I tried many ways and the last thing I wanted to do was buying the code but I finished buying it. I tried MTTY (haven´t used it before), and the Athena Upgrade but none of them worked. And now I have a Super CID Dopod U1000!

Considering they are not posting out actual goods, they dont lose much if they are scammed do they! I dont require that sort of identification when I sell actual goods on ebay. ffs I sold a car and didnt ask he post me a copy of his driving licence first.

I paid with Paypal, and I could immediately log in and download. No human intervention from IMEI-check neccessary.

I get the option to track the order, when I do i get a page telling me I need to verify. They definately wont let me have the keyfile without an ID.

Its just a matter of patience. I am short on that (as I think are many others).
For me the problem is I had wm2006 on my uni before I (upgraded) to the Ameo. I thought it was going to be wm6 as all the pre-launch reviews were talking about the Athena as one of the first wm6 devices.

I sold my Uni, and got Ameo, and bam, Im back in 2005 land. I wouldnt mind but I had that years ago on my Himalaya device, so its very old for me :p

Ok, I just tried the T-Mob005 files. It did NOT work.
Got to 1% and dropped out with vendor ID error.

This is a UK T-Mob Ameo, and it didnt work. BUT it didnt brick either, just rebooted fine.

Gonna wait for imei-check now.

It worked for me without CID unlock (UK Ameo) and comes with a Network wizard to create the T-Mobile connections (I guess) as it connects fine! :)

I dont like branding! I will remove all the T-Mob customisations now, yay.

Your device is not CID unlocked. You need to unlock it via IMEI-check. Then you will be able to update.

Just to reiterate... I flashed my CID-Locked T-mobile Ameo UK (SIM unlocked, but CID locked) with the TMOB version of WM6 on the 1st page and it all went fine. I used Vista to flash and had no problems, although a few scary moments when the counter got stuck at 2% :-).
Remember to hard-reset the device before flashing though!

I had the same problem when I first tried on XP. Don't know why (although it could be linked to the fact that Copernic Desktop search started indexing at a crucial moment!). Anyway, it worked the second time.

Sorry, your having problems..But asking and then asking again really does not help. it justs clutters the thread.

I just tried the link and it works, once the link opens up, you have to wait about 10 seconds, close the popup and then click the download button..

Exactly - the dowload link is in a button near the top of the page (before most of the adverts). It also gets covered pretty quickly by a slide-over advert which you have to close (x at the top right) before you can download.

I too have just tried again and it is definitely working.

In the meantime if anyone knows how to dhange the device code back to the original I would be grateful for the information.

This is just a quick message to say that I have installed the WM6 using Vista

Computer:-
Vista x64 4gb ram

PDA
HTC Athena (bought in the UK)

Rom used
ATHE_WM6_x7500_flasher.rar

Instructions
1) Downloaded using the link:-

2) Unpacked to the desktop

3) Ran the ROMUpdateUtility.exe

4) Checked all check boxes and started the instal process

5) PDA screen went multi coloured and Vista started searching for a USB serial driver

6) The RomUpdateUtility exited with connection failed (the PDA scree still showing multi-coloured screen)

7) Waited 5 min and a message came up.. I ask windows to install the driver automatically ... another 5 min wait. Please not I did not unplug USB or touch the PDA during the above process


8) Driver installed.. re ran ROMUpdateUtility.exe.

9) The screen and the PDA started update process (percentage bar)

10) Job Done :) thans to all on this excellent forum

I just took a photo with my camera phone :p Who needs a scanner.
Also, I photographed my Work PhotoID card, and emailed it from my work email address. They seemed happy with that.

I think they are over the top with security considering the product, but hey, nobody is forcing us to use them.

If you can wait im sure there will be a free unlocker eventualy.

You don't need to resort to illegal measures to get your TomTom maps working again. You can do a manual activation by going to http://www.ttcode.com. What you won't be able to do for a while is change your TomTom home software to use the new device or the My TomTom website. But that's not a big deal if the maps are working.

It has a network setup wizard which gets all the settings from T-Mob. Took it 10 seconds. I notice I now get an H symbol when using HSDPA.

Just downloaded T-Mob one
Ran it on Vista and it all installed smoothly, got the cert from my server and it's just synching my contacts, all T-Mob UK's settings were there, I didn't have to do anything.
I did notice the 3G changed to H bit is now back at 3G so looks like it does have HSDPA indicator - not had chan
ce to play yet but upgrade went very smoothly on my UK AMeo and vista on my desktop.

Does the Athena Upgrade program and pack only upgrade the ROM with the OS or does it also upgrades the IPL, GSM Radio, etc? What advantage (no pun intended) is there to use the upgrade program?

As anyone used the WM6 Rom with the docking station? Still supports VGA out no problem? How about mass storage support, any better then the WM5 version?

i flashed my german htc advantage super cid (via imei-check, only minutes after verifycation i got the key) with the htc-rom (i think it's the third download). everything went perfect. of course it's not german anymore but english, i don't really care. it's working great now in realvga resolution (with truevga), performance is great, WAY better than with WM5).

I can only think of three things before i go ahead with the upgrade:

1. Does the VGA output still work in WM6?

2. What if i need a copy of the original ROM for 'warranty' purposes? Is it available?

3. Does the Video callling work? (sory i tried to find out on thread but maybe i missed it!)

Mind you I flashed my Universal with WM6 and never looked back.

It's great to be back on WM6, back in the Exec days now.

However, I thought this was the T-Mobile version. All I seem to have is the HTC default one. Did I miss a trick? Certain things like the VueFlo, the program that closes programs by holding X, as well as the actual appearence of WLM, plus no T-Mob today theme would suggest this is not the TM ROM. Though I do love the HTC look - and the bottom strip indicator with the device closed looks so much better than the TM edition.

Video calling is there, and yes you're right I checked Opera and tried activating VueFlo and it works. Not that I particularly liked it, but you know...

So the only thing I can't see now really is X-Close, or whatever it was called. Anyone have this cab from WM5? I liked that program.

**EDIT** - I forgot WM6 has its own in-built version via Task Manager for closing by holding 'X'.

Other than that, I can't think of anything that is missing on an WM5 > WM6 basis. And the functionality tweaks in 6 would more than make up for it anyway. I'm even considering leaving it on QVGA mode cos WM6 looks so good.

Currently in the process of installing TomTom, Pocketbreeze etc. Will prolly install MrTrueVGA too, we'll see.

My advice though is 100% upgrade. WM5 was such a comedown after the Exec 6 days. Just follow the instructions...

Get your imei-check done (only 20 quid and even if it's not required for this upgrade, might be worthwhile in the future

Download the ATHE_T-MOB005.rar and run it

The HTC look is much nicer - just wish I had a black Ameo and not a grey one. Oh well, you can't have it all.

Yup, Opera is there - v 865 too. Not 100% sure if it's the most recent, but it was til very recently. I haven't found anything yet that was on 5 that I can't find on 6.

Re IMEI - I bought mine before i read the bits about not needing it. I still performed it just in case since I already had it.

but no TomTom6 as on my original german htc rom.

yes, it's the exactly the same as with WM5. if you have never installed it, look at the other real vga threads. comm manager and dial pad not shown correctly.

My dial pad displayed perfectly with True VGA and Vjay Big phone (which normally works) made it worse on this occasion. Comm Manager still messed up (see elsewhere for solutions) as is the 3G icon.

Nope no need to CID unlock if you already with T-Mobile as the right files are in the T-Mobile 005 upgrade rom.. make sure you use the right one though.

I have been a loyal HTC user for sometime now and find your products cutting edge and far superior than anything else out there. I have recently purchased an Advantage X7500 and I am also using the new Touch having replaced my previous S710. All three I am sure you will agree are cutting edge kit, however I am finding Windows Mobile 6 that is installed on the Touch and the S710 to be priceless with regards to functionality and usage.

It is on that subject that I would like to enquire as to the eagerly anticipated release of Windows Mobile for the X7500. I know you are going to say, "You are the xxx person to have asked that" but with so many rumours flying around, and with the statement released with your name at the bottom, I thought it proper to point the question to yourselves. I would have purchased the x7501 that already has Windows Mobile 6 installed had it been available in the UK at the time of purchasing the X7500.

I hope you can give me some idea.

I can say Abram is go for it - it is SO much quicker! I am back to the speed my XDA Exec was - its very good indeed.

I did hard reset although i suspect you dont need to as you are wiping the rom after all anyway!

I didn't set up a partneship after the hard reset, just connected as a guest.

Oh by the way, the 'Ameo' icon on AS has now changed to a black Advantage - i quite like it!
