Hi all,

I have just flashed this new OS from the official rom (what people call, HERA_WM6_FLASHER.rar) on my P4350. This rom is for German device, like Wing's OS. There is not big difference, this is really for Herald. The mistake is the same, there are some wrong letters on the keyboard.:mad:

You can flash the OS with Aserg' way easily.:) Your device does not need to be unlocked.

IT RUNS LIKE HELL! :))

MS Office is included. You can take a look at the below pics.

Well, I tried replacing the os.nb file in asergs wm6, it gave a error, but when i did a hard reset, it worked just fine :) btw I renamed the os.nb0 to os.nb,and then replaced asergs os.nb....

im now testing out thecabs extracted from the touch and up to now its great :)

OK I could extract the files of the os.nb both the XIP sections and the IMGFS.

I used the Hermes NBH tools for that (see http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_NBH).

My problem si that rdmshflsh.pl does only extract files, not modules...

I'm trying to rebuild a ROM for the Wizard with this one, but if I don't get any modules, it is ok to have only files in the IMGFS?

So you got this flashed without CID Unlocking your phone? How was that possible? I'd love to get my device flashed with this cause I hate T-Mobile's crap on my device even after not installing the custimazation. And what procedure did you use to flash?

itje

You can flash the OS with Aserg' way easily

If you search the wm6 section of the herald part of this excellent forum, then you will find that Aserg has cooked up a sollution for us so that we can flash our heralds with wm6...download he's package replace the os.nb file with the os.nb0 file (rename it to os.nb) then follow Asergs way...I cant promise it will work for you, but it worked with mine (my p4350 is not cidlocked)

But as stated in so many places on this forums, dont do this without checking up what you can and cant do with your phone. g3? g4? cid locked? not cidlocked? etc etc.....
And before trying to flash anything, find a official RUU and download it. READ INSTRUCTIONS, dont be unpatient, READ...

After reading through lot of the posts here, Its not hard to understand that (my lucky/unlucky guess) 90% of bricked phones is because ppl try out this without reading and learning as mutch as they can, not only the "YAY I DID IT WITH YOUR AMAZING BLAHBLAH INSTALLER AND WORKES FANTASTIC" stuff, maybe its a good idea to read about the ones who didnt succed with the "YAY I DID IT WITH YOUR AMAZING BLAHBLAH INSTALLER AND WORKES FANTASTIC" sollutions :)

I bricked my 9100 beeing unpatient, didnt know there was a g3/g4 issue, cause I didnt think that concerned me.... Then I started reading up what I should have done in the first place, lucky me I could get a RUU installed and that phone is now up and running with Farias wm6 sollution :) (thnx faria)

Be pationt, find out what you can about this stuff before you jump ahead, and dont blame the chefs cooking. Some chefs can make food of anything, but not everything is edable for everyone ;)

It does not matter when yours is G3 or G4 (mine is G4 too).

Don't forget! You need to have your original rom in case your PPC got in trouble, then you can re-flash yours with its own rom.

Actually, flashing a WM6 OS rom on Herald is very easy. The point is you know how to do it and follow the way exactly or not!

I flashed my HTC P4350 Herald to WM6 successfully last night. I think my phone is CID locked.

Please take care if you want to follow this guide. Do not risk it if you are not sure what to do.

Here is how I did it:

1. Download Herald WM6 v4.12 Dump from this thread (http://uploaded.de/?id=zi6wyz - "tupisdin ROM")

2. Download "HERALD.WM6.WWE.ASerg.3us.rar" (from the thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=308891 direct file link: http://rapidshare.com/files/33727988/HERALD.WM6.WWE.ASerg.3us.rar "ASerg ROM")

3. Extract "tupisdin ROM" to a folder. Rename the "os.nb0" file to "os.nb".

4. Extract "ASerg ROM" to a folder (this is the "ASerg Folder").

5. Overwrite the file (os.nb) from "ASerg ROM" with the "tupisdin ROM" file. You are ready to flash.

6. Make a full backup of your Herald to Micro SD card or PC. I didn't do this because I don't know of any full ROM backup solution for the Herald!

7. Connect via ActiveSync and use a "Guest" profile rather than creating or using a profile on your PC.

8. Load ASerg_Policies.CAB from the "ASerg Folder" onto your Herald and install it to the device.

9. With the USB and ActiveSync connected , run !UPGRADE_ROM.bat in the "ASerg Folder" and you will see the following:

************************************************** *********************
* *
* HTC Herald Upgrade *
* *
* Total process may take about 6-15 minutes depending on CPU speed. *
* *
************************************************** *********************
Press any key to continue . . .

10. Press a key to continue:

Start Time: 0:21:03.87
Initializing..One or more CON code pages invalid for given keyboard code
......*
..*
Writing the new AKU OS ROM..*

11. It will be flashing at this line for approximately 10-15 minutes. Then you will see:

CopyFileToTFFS(OS.nb:0, 0, 04400000)
ERROR: ITWriteDisk - The drive cannot find the sector requested.
End Time: 0:30:12.42
************************************************** ***********
* *
* Congratulations! (If there are no error messsages) *
* You have Finished the Upgrade *
* *
* Please Hard Reset your Herald *
* *
************************************************** ***********
Press any key to continue . . .

12. I got the error ERROR: ITWriteDisk - The drive cannot find the sector requested.. I am not sure what this is, but it does not seem to cause any problems for me.

13. At this point, hard reset your Herald by pressing both "soft keys" (the two " - " keys next to the top of the 5 way button panel) and the reset button next to the Micro SD slot.

14. Your phone will display a screen asking you to confirm formatting. Press the "Send" button which is the green phone button (the left button).

15. Your phone will reset and take a while to come back. You will get the standard align screen and time zone setup after this.

16. At this point you could soft reset your phone before the extended ROM and customisations is installed. You will still have HTCHomePlug and the HTC close application if you reset before the install.

Enjoy WM6!

I only have one small problem with this ROM, the keyboard is slightly wrong. From the top left, my symbol keys do this:

( ) = / # 1 2 3 ! ?
_ " % - + 4 5 6 @
' & : * 7 8 9

But my keyboard is marked as:

@ ! ? / # 1 2 3 ( )
_ " % - + 4 5 6 =
' & : * 7 8 9

It is minor, but I think this is fixable with some registry hacks (from reading the Hermes forums), so I will try this tonight...

I want to get a unbranded device cause though I have T Mobile, I don't want all the programs, etc. on it and this ROM is probably a lot faster and cleaner than the Tmobile rom. Plus this is also newer in terms of ROM Date and Build.

Hi Guys,

I got the WM 6 working on my dutch P4350, but with a lot of problems.
The bricking of the device is the result of a radio ROM below 2.79 in combination with the Aserv ROM. When upgraded with the last WM6 ROM and a radio below 2.79 no white screen, but the radio fails to connect to the network (SIM error.)

Aserv's method works withour CID unlocking, BUT!!!:
without CID unlocking you cannot revert to another ROM than the one which originally came with your device (happenend to the Dutchman.)

So what you should do to minimize the risk of bricking your device:

1. CID unlock your device (eg i-mei-check.co.uk)
2. Upgrade your radio ROM to 2.79 or higher if yours is lower (search this herald forum, there is a link to a WWE rom with a 2.79 radio.)
3. Follow the guide on page 3 of this topic to upgrade to the WM6 ROM.
4. Enjoy!!

I up and downgraded several times without problem and had all the problems described in this and the Aserv topic but was able to downgrade to a WM5 WWE ROM at all times (thanks to CID unlock.)
The WM6 ROM is working fine, but the 2.79 radio has not as good a reception as the 2.71 radio.

To the dutchman: the CID unlock from I-mei-check works in a dos window. I do not know if it works when your device is bricked, but I can image it will. You can try to CID unlock and then downgrade. It's a 30 euro try ;>))

Hope this helps some people and to prevent bricking of our beautiful Herald.

Good luck!

Hi, but you have to set Herald in a particular state (Active sync connected) when using imei-check dos program or is in bootloader mode?

thank you

Do NOT try! Since the device is in bootloader, you do not have an ActiveSync connenction, so the imei-check prog can't connect to the device. I already sent a mail to IMEI-CHECK to ask if there is a version that works in bootloader, but there is not, they can unbrick my device though, but have to send it to them, costs 140 euro (i believe 90 GBP) So i'll wait for the official HTC ROM;)

To chrispazz: It needs an ActiveSync connection, so it does not work in bootloader mode

* When in bootloader mode, the prog does conect to the Herald, but you will get an error:

sorry my bad! ;)

it's an unbranded p4350.
I was messing around with it and after a hard reset (or a ROM load not sure) I get "Data crashed" message every time I turn on the phone with a SIM in!

works fine without a SIM hehehe!!!

What about changing the registry like on wizard:

0409 for english qwerty keyboard
0407 for german. perhaps it will also change the symbol usage??!!

And why having a WM6 for flashing??

Ok try number 632! :P

This one could not have been done without papamopps's help! (tnx mate ;))
My old radiorom was 02.71.90, I upgraded to 02.79.90 using the second link from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1270564&postcount=21

I successfully upgraded to both aserg's 3us rom and tupisdin and both work fine without any "data crashed" errors! ^_^
(both upgrades were done using aserg's !UPDATE_ROM method)

I'm still not sure which one I'll be using, currently I'm using tupisdin's cause the other one is full of stuff I don't really need :/

the hardware keyboard special characters layout is the only annoying thing I've found this far. :)

Okay, I have one question because i'm getting impatient and I don't wanna pay for CID Unlocking as I don't have paypal anymore.

Anyone that did flash this, did you have an unbranded HTC Herald P4350 or was it any other model that you had? If only the Herald worked with Aserg's method, then I guess i'm going to have to CID Unlock but if other models work, I'm guessing we have found a way to flash roms without CID Unlocking!

papamopps
7th July 2007, 11:25 PM
Be careful. My terra bricked again. It ahs to be the same Model-ID Hera-Hera or Terra-Terra. Even if it is nearly the same. From Imeicheck they told me that Tmob and O2 even have little hardware modifications. So be careful.

My model is Hera110. It's a tmobile wing and numerous said they flashed without CID Unlocking so i'm confused :( . I'm going to try again to setup paypal to cid unlock and maybe cook a nice rom using a good kitchen or just use the PDA Viet one.

Yes you can flash. But be careful. I made a cooking mistake. Donīt know what. And now i cannot even flash a Germen RUU Rom. Get vendor Id error. And mine IS unlocked by imei.check.

Thatīs all I said.

I guess they learned how to avoid flashing cooked roms. When you have a Herald. No problem. But Wing an dterra? They are getting better.

Think of my words.

Thanks guys.
But i think we wont be such lucky. Imei.check told me taht their option to unbrick the devices is to "open it flash teh rom directly to the flashchip" - the I can flash any HTC rom but not the O2 terra rom again.

So it is much more difficult than i old wizard times.

Yes, that was what they told me:
That was teh first thing:

"But you can unbrick. (re-read first option, read it carefully):

1) You flash a ROM with same MODEL-ID (language, up or downgrade, branding, etc. doesn't matter, BUT it MUST BE same MODEL-ID)... E.g. any O2 Terra ROM might do it.

So for instance you could flash O2-Terra English WM6, O2 Terra German WM6, SOMEBRAND-SOMELANGUAGE, ...

The only thing IMPORTANT is that it has same MODEL-ID (which describes the hardware)
"

and then:

We will gurantee that it works. We can reflash a working ROM directly to the flash chip. (Since O2 WM6 is NOT available we can not flash this ROM... but ANY AVAILABLE ROM can be flashed)"

GAMBIT, is your Terra CID Unlocked and have you tried flashing yet?Nope.
Wanted to try it a long time ago, but than it happen that papamopps killed his Terra and many others bricked theirs.
So I deceided to wait until HTC or any providers starts releasing a WM6 ROM. So far I still have virgin XDA.
Changing the pagepool was the only alteration to m device, but that's harmless.

Therefore I assume my Terra wears a chastity belt alias CID lock.

But what about the past devices?
Wizard - 8125 - MDA
Herald - Terra - Wing - Dopod c838 (i think?)
Hermes - 8525 - Tytn

They all have variations so why should they not act the same? There all the same devices, just rebranded differently, so they should act the same besides the branding, if any.

HTC will produce those phones for the providers with their specific modifications.
From different case design, to colours and other extras. Otherwise the could sell those devie as HTC standard devices.
Older devices didn't had all those modification so their are easier to modify.
The providers learned from their past mistakes and developed better unlock/debranding solutions.
Just the same with consoles or PCs there is and will always be copy protections.
Some are software, some are hardware based. It's of course always a matter of time until these are hacked.
But as long as nobody can undergo those security measures the companies benefit from it.

blackout203
11th July 2007, 05:07 PM
Thanks for the explanation :(
So basically from the S620 (Dash) and onward to devices such as the Wing/Terra, it's going to be harder to make homemade CID Unlocking solutions? :'(

GAMBIT999
11th July 2007, 05:23 PM
That's what I believe.
I mean it's a logical and economical assumption.
If every provider let their products unbranded (no CID) they have to service many misflashed phone.

CID lock > less/no bricked phones > less service > more money in the companies wallet ;)

papamopps
11th July 2007, 06:48 PM
And when you read in the hermes forum. They only way they could flash - was a PREFACTORY SUPERCID RUU. They got from some of the first devices. And that was enough so that they could generate selfmade nbh files. But with the newest Generation it is more difficult.

Just look at the bootloader.

Herald has 1.xxx

Terra has 4.xxx

That is a big jump.

Wizard has 3.08 as the highest and newest bootloader. And for wing and terra they made a jump from 1 to 4...

Look at the third post.

Also this may be helpful for others, I found that for this ROM when writing a new message the To: Addresss does not autocomplete. You simply need to make the following reg edits to turn autocomplete on;

4. Extract "ASerg ROM" to a folder (this is the "ASerg Folder").

5. Overwrite the file (os.nb) from "ASerg ROM" with the "tupisdin ROM" file. You are ready to flash.

* *
* HTC Herald Upgrade *
* *
* Total process may take about 6-15 minutes depending on CPU speed. *
* *
************************************************** *********************
Press any key to continue . . .

10. Press a key to continue:

Start Time: 0:21:03.87
Initializing..One or more CON code pages invalid for given keyboard code
......*
..*
Writing the new AKU OS ROM..*

11. It will be flashing at this line for approximately 10-15 minutes. Then you will see:

CopyFileToTFFS(OS.nb:0, 0, 04400000)
ERROR: ITWriteDisk - The drive cannot find the sector requested.
End Time: 0:30:12.42
************************************************** ***********
* *
* Congratulations! (If there are no error messsages) *
* You have Finished the Upgrade *
* *
* Please Hard Reset your Herald *
* *

Enjoy WM6!

I`ve succesfully installed the rom untill the moment it should be reseted, when I did the hard reset after pressing the reset botton the phone shut down and never turned on again.... anyone could pls help

Try running the RUU to recover your phone. Search in the Herald forums to find out how. DO NOT make a new thread, and DO NOT post in this one again.
