WIFI SDIO function has been confirmed by beta tester, loskarlitos - with some limitations like control panel not working , WIFI connection has been confirmed as stable and able to survive standby mode

i think the wifi control panel only works with built in hardware. thats why its removed from the official charmer roms.

I dont know if that's such a good idea. Some people use SDIO wifi cards and find those wifi settings useful.

as reported from my beta man, loskarlitos, and as reported above, this wifi settings applet seems to be working only with built-in wifi modules, settings are inactive for sdio cards.

Wifi SDIO owners, please share your experineces - than i can build fully functional rom stripped down from useless parts

Hi,

first of all amazing rom. Really really fast. It syncs great under Vista. To flash from Vista you have to use the "Another Flash Method". I encountered no problems with the 12 apps running, alarm or landscape problem.
Only the Calender and Contact buttons are still hardcoded to Start and Back.

problem with alarm was solved - it was really caused by underclocking charmer down to 95mhz (I'm using BatteryStatus for dynamic overclocking. 95MHz is simply not enough power to bring alarm window up and system behaves strange)

problem with changing landscape/portrait disappeared and never came back - but will keep it in buglist until this is really confirmed

lagge number of running apps stil remains - if lot of apps running, softkeys are not working as they should...hope somebody could try this on another wm6 device?

Been testing this rom for a day or two - I get the problem where Calendar and contacts won't start (whether from soft keys or the Start menu) and I have to soft-reset to egt it working. I admit I have been using iContact as well so I will uninstall that for a few days and see if the problem goes away.

Hi, when i flash yours new rom and make HR system was start and customization from old wm5 was started. In rom 4.4 customization was not started after HR, is this was changed in this release?

Hi, next thing is that my ring tone changes to default without my command. I've seen this before in previous roms but in 4.4 it was ok.

I installed this last night. Seems nice and fast.

I noticed that the phone pad SIP and MMS are missing. (Installed these manually)

Also, i'm afraid the Bluetooth A2DP appears to still be the older, poorer quality version.

phonepad sip is missing because i don't like it - it is not necessary. everybody can install it easily manually. but it will not eat precious memmory for us who does not use it ,-)

MMS support is there - no problem with it, thing you report is a bit strange...

it's hard with A2DP. Some testers were reporting it's the best A2dp they have seen - you tell the opposite. The worst thing is that i cannot test it - i do not have a2dp device :-( is possible that transfer quality is also dependent on used HW?

regarding those ringtone changes - i was testing this today (about 10 calls, some restarts etc - no problem. aren't you using any 3rd party software for phone profiles or things like that? I saw this with pocket zen phone..if not, try please to search for some dependency of this behavior so i can repair it

Discovering if you have the correct ver is so easy - just check the default wallpaper, it has been modified and ouy can see WM6Essentials written at the bottom part...

I forgot about that. i changed the wallpaper.
I do have the latest version then. It's just strange how i had no mms option within messaging. That made me think i had installed the wrong one.

- I have no idea about what happend with your machine...Maybe flashing again will correct it, it's the last thing - otherwise, I really don't know :confused:

- that's ok, reporting what works does not make sense :-) Hope wee will solve your problems , butt he only thing i can recommend is to reflash the rom. Also please report 3rd party software you use - incompatibility may cause issues. Check the clean ROM, then install your programs one by one, still checking functionality between installations

i'm leaving for folowing few days, so fight hard, i hope you will be satisfied with this rom...

I use PIE Plus that along with other benefits allows me to select whether the d-pad scrolls by link or by page. PIE Plus is showing "Page Scrolling" as selected but PIE still scrolls only by link. (This was working Ok in the 2.5 release). I think this toggling between link and page scrolling is a registry value. I'll have a look today. (Whilst at work) ;)

The SDIO works really well with my spectec wireless card. Nice and fast, no drop outs, and really impressed with it.

I have just got two questions about this rom

First is with Internet Explorer. It wont store my homepage selection. Every time it comes up with a message that says "The address is not valid. Check the address and try again." Is there any way to fix this, like editing a registry or something.

the second question is, is there a way i can quickly change the orientation of the screen without going into the settings menu then sytem and then screen.

If that doesnt work, try:

The bt car set works fine, but in other car set the battery and cell meters dont shows. in 4.4 version it worked.

Can someone explain how a2bt works? is it working with handsfree devices?
How can make the phone rings the (mp3/midi) ringtone to the headset?

the fastest way is to tap screen rotate icon which is enabled by default in tray...

Hey I just flash my MDA Compact 2 to WM6 (thanks nocturne.op.15) but I'm getting errors

The first error:The file 'elatepushservice cannot opened Either it is not signed with a trusted cetificate, or one of its componets cannot be found. If the problems persists, try reinstalling or restoring files.

The second: cannot execute\Windows\TimeWizard.exe

Third: can not open contacts.

Can anyone help me or give me some guidance on how to fix these problem.

Oh also I flash my MDA with the essentials via xbeta works fine. Other way did not work kept poping wm5 back.

to turn off the extended rom customization starting

The problem I had with MMS not being visible was cured with hard reset. After installing some other software MMS disappeared again but then re-appeared after a soft reset. It has been fine ever since.

Still have the issue within PIE where I cannot switch between scrolling by link or scrolling by page. The registry change that I thought would work, did not. :(

Everything else is a big thumbs up! :)

I don't won't anyone to be upset, just putting out problems out there and I'm reading all the forums, must admit you guys are real good and I really appreciate all the you’re doing here.

I tried going to the Regedit to stop customize but unable to find the device to stop the extrom, can some explain how to stop extrom (customizing) with a little more detail?

Also the internet push won’t work, If I can just fix those bug the rest I really not concern. I repeated this process more than 3 times and no resolution.

umm, that post about extrom skipping by registry editing was for me, not for you, users :-)

you can simply skip extrom by reseting device before customization starts - after hardreset, extrom is executed only once (until next HR)

about that "elatepushservice" - i have no idea - nobody has this problem. only thing you can do is to flash new radio, flash latest official wm5 to upgrade also bootloader....really no more ideas

is there any chance that you could post a simple guide, if it is simple, on how to add our own oem packages to your roms?

It has become clear that some packages slow the device down if not within the ROM.

This would allow users to get the most out of your ROMs and the base ROM would remain clean.

Simlpe guide is hard to make :-)

You can use common ROM cooking manuals - you can decompile my ROM, mod it and compile it as you want.

I have a kithchen I use for rom creation, modded to work with charmer, but i will not release it at this time for few reasons:

1) I have no time to clean it up, it's really in a big mess, all tools mashed together into one folder and I'm the only one who knows what is what and why is it where it lies
2) I have not permission from original kitchen and tools creators
3) I don't want to be responsible for bricked devices when somebody will mess up something - and people will, you know
4) ROM is not yet ready to be the best one for cooking
5) I hate making documentation

When ROM will be OK, I will start to work on kitchen, I promise :-)

As i saw, many people is using Windows Live Search. Yesterday, Microsoft Wnidows Mobile Team announced release of v.2 of Live Search (http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2007/07/12/windows-live-mobile-search-v2-released.aspx)

Release of 000.3 ROM will include this search built-in, directly from original MS cabfile. Release will be available for public today evening...

- i will disable extrom execution (i forgot this, on my machine, it didn't run extrom so i was not checking this)
- removed camera mode "theme"
- removed some obsolete camera registry entries
- removed Windows update
- some changes in pocket IE

I will try also to somehow integrace HTC Camera 4.11, but now, it's without positive results...I'm thinking about One Note removal, changing default font to calibri...we will see...

I'm also thinking about including latest radio ROM...

EDIT: Windows Live 2 will not bo includes - I tried it, and it's unfortunately currently usable just fo England and USA, it will bring no advantages for other users (if i tried to search for a cinema near my location, Brno, CZ - it found one, yes - but 4972 miles far away, in Brittish Columbia)

I'm very thankful for the beautiful job in WM6 operating system.
The smartdialing is excelent, and all function work well.
But i have a question:
In the last times, lots of times the standby LED blinking, but the charmer's incoming call didn't ring, and hte buttons didnot answer when i pressed them. The phone just the reset button could take back to work. Is this the phone's mistake, or operating system error?

Hi guys!

I'm running the WM6 essentials ROM which is WWE. I'd like to change the keyboard layout as well as the dictionary for word completion to German. Installing the CAB from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279158) did not work for me.

Any ideas how to tackle those language issues? :-)

You have to check the files in the cab and rename them in :
statdict.0409.dat , dictprob.0409.dat and mssp2.lex .
The second cab in your link it's almost right except for the last file listed and for the registry modification.
Check it.

I was satisfied with my WM5 ROM that I was using for nearly a year with different customisations. This is the first WM6 ROM I tried - I was curious to see enhancements such as Bluetooth PAN support and any changes to Wifi.

I can say that this ROM seems quite stable and boots quicker than WM5. Regular operation seems the same (Charmer has 200MHz OMAP CPU, so will never be that great), however the Socket SDIO P300 (802.11g) wifi card I bought last year now works! I thought I wasted my money on this card as it NEVER worked with WM5. Now it works every time!

In Connections screen of SETTINGS the Wi-Fi option can be used to view wireless networks and create connections. The "Wireless LAN" option is not enabled for SDIO cards.

I am experiencing problems connecting to my D-LINK 2000AP with the Socket P300 card using WPA-PSK (TKIP) - without using certificates (PEAP/EAP-TLS). This seems to have been reported by other users of different devices. The connection is fine when set to OPEN (not tested under WEP). It is hard to confirm whether problem is device specific (Charmer), SDIO card-specific (Socket P300), SDIO card driver specific (Socket), AP specific (D-link DWL-2000AP) or OS-specific (WM6). This problem has, however, been reported by other users before, so there may be known issues with WPA-PSK.

Something I haven't managed to do with this ROM as well: how can I get a shortcut or link to task-manager (seen as MEMORY under System section of SETTINGS menu)? I previously had a soft-key set for this in WM5...

Oh, something else I tested. I have a Belkin bluetooth access-point that works with Palm Tungsten-T. Charmer with WM5 was able to pair with the bluetooth AP but not recognise it as a bluetooth-PAN AP. When I read that WM6 support bluetooth PAN I did some testing, followed by further reading. WM6 supports your mobile device to be used as a bluetooth PAN AP. The Charmer still does not recognise the bluetooth PAN profile of my Belkin BT AP.


Thanks for your hard work! I'm still impressed that the SDIO card works when it did not in WM5!! SDIO Wifi has been constantly reported as an issue with the Charmer. We may have a solution now!

A problem I think I used to have on an old device (WM2003) has come back with this rom. I have set alarms to go off, turned them off, set new alarms etc but the old ones keep showing. Any idea how to clear them so they only go off if set?
