ok i got a warranty unit because my old one the touch screen stopped working..... I got the phone, and when i turned it on it did its typical installs but got stuck at the end looked like it was done i waited 5min didnt budge so i rebooted.....then i tried using wifi and it would turn on, pick up the network, ask for the key, everything ..it says connecting, then 3sec later it just dies says unaviable, and keeps doing it over and over, has MAC address, has some wierd letters and number under NETWORK ADAPTER then IEEE 802.11b/g compatible wi-fi..it SAYS "use server-assigned IP address" and in the box instead of saying not connected its showing fe80::3777:19ff:fe0 .... i think thats abnormal, i tried hitchhiker, i tried unsecure network, nothing....anyone have any idea? i did hard resets i flashed it...i was on the new ATT rom but then cid unlocked and are now on VP3g wm6 rom....any help is greatly appreciated, but i really think its hardware, i just want another opinion.......

I got that behaviour when I used "shared" keys instead of "open" (or the other way around, don't remember) on the handset.

I get the same behaviour with a router I have as a loaner while my normal router is being fixed. The loaner is a Zyxel 320W and my normal router (which works with my Hermes) is a Zyxel 336M.
So possibly a router problem. I haven't bothered too much as I will have my real router back in a week.

Have you turned off all of your security and the router and opened it all up, then tried to connect? Also ... I had to run a 64bit key for some reason a 128 bit didn't fly (yes I had the key entered in correctly :) )

Spent an hour with HTC tech support.....If u have a mac address, and wifi turns on, and you try connecting to a unsecured router and all it does is cycle, that means when it was being updated to the new att software it messed up the wifi, so 1 hour later, i was told i will be reciving a replacement unit.....I guess it all works out, sad that software can mess up hardware till its unfixable... thank you to everyone who responded.
