Not really, but would have to flash back to experiment on TomTom ;) Then I will be back with the pack  .
This is what I want to do. My TomTom code for version 6 has changed and still not got response from them to give me a new code. Their site says you can change device only once in 6 months  While waiting for them to reply, I am going to flash back to WM5 and install TT and copy the exe file in Program files after registering the recognisable code. Flashing back to WM6, I will replace the one after instal with the previously copied one from WM5.
Is this legal  and will it work? I have a backup so I hope reverting to current state will not be too much of a hustle.
Any sugestions?

The activation is on the maps, not the app itself.
I re-installed the app after re-installing wm6, the problem is with WM6 it changes the device code, so the hash of the device code and your product id are different in WM6,
I have both codes for wm5 and wm6, doesn't matter they need to give authority to your new wm6 device code found on your device after starting tt6.
Normally you can go to ttcode.com and enter your new device code and then it will authorise your maps automatically or provide a new product code. My problem is I got a new code when i switched from Tytn to Advantage and I have three device codes listed and can't add a fourth.
When I switched from the tytn to advantage, I found a 800 number and called and they did the authoirze and device change over the phone. Now, I can't find the number so I am in the same boat as you. Waiting on them to respond to 'my question' under my account login...Sent it yesterday and other than the auto response I haven't heard a thing...Wish I wrote down that 800 number.

I too had the same problem and it was solved very easily with tomtom home.
After I had upgraded to WM6, I reinstalled tomtom, but the map that was on my SD card would not work. I fired up tomtom home and it gave an error that the device did not match my login and did I want to log in with a different account. I clicked no, and it had a button called update I think and I think this updated my account with the "new" device. It then must have authorised the map I bought for the new device and allowed me to re-copy the map over, and everything is working now.

Beware - it only allows you to change device code a limited amount (twice per year?) After that, you will have to send TomTom proof of change of device.
