I Thought It Would Be Good To Have A Thread Where People Can Post The XML Files For Their City For Others To Download. It Would Cut Down On The Number Of People Who Query If Their Town/City Is Supported.

So Please Reply With Your City And Country (Theres More Than Just One Birmingham In The World ;) ) And The XML Files You Used.

Cheers

I found this tutorial over the 4winmobile (http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/124538-post1.html)

Visit AccuWeather.com - World Weather (http://www.accuweather.com/world-index.asp?partner=accuweather&traveler=0)
Find your city and bring up its weather forecast in your browser.
Look at the URL and copy the location code from the end of the URL (will look something like locCode=OCN|AU|TAS|HOBART)
It should consist of 4 sections eg: OCN|AU|TAS|HOBART (Region|Country|State|City)

Go to the windows directory on your PPC
Copy the HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml to your desktop
Open in Notepad and insert an XML tag in to the list.
For Hobart, it would look like this:
<city name="Hobart, AU" locationcode="OCN|AU|TAS|HOBART"/>

Make sure that the tag starts with a < and ends with a />

Replace the file in your windows directory

All done :)

Hello everyone,

Can U do this city for me ??

17th July 2007, 06:08 PM
So I have contacted both Accuweather and now HTC about why certain cities ( I am in US so I asked about US cities, but should apply elsewhere) were not available from the portal that the HTC Home Plugin accesses. Accuweather basicly stated that I would have to contact HTC to have them request the location be added to the data feed. Apparently Accuweather has been getting a ton of e-mails about this:

"This is for the HTC Weather Widget tickets that have been coming in for the last 2 weeks. AccuWeather is currently providing a select number of locations for this service, therefore all the tickets that have been coming in have been for locations currently not provided in this feed. Thank for contacting AccuWeather.com Wireless Support regarding the weather widget on your HTC device. AccuWeather.com provides a data feed to HTC with a select set of locations that HTC uses for the widget you are using. The list of locations that AccuWeather provides was done at HTC request. If you do not see your location in the city list, then it is not available at this time. AccuWeather does offer a free mobile website for all US and select international locations that can be accessed through your mobile web browser. To access this site, simply type in http://www.accuweather.com into the address bar of your browser. If you wish to submit a request to have your location available in the widget, please contact HTC directly. Should you have any weather related questions, feel free to contact us by either email at Support@AccuWeather.com or by telephone at 814-235-8650. Please reference the ticket number in the subject with any correspondence. Sincerely,Wireless SupportAccuWeather, Inc."

So I fired off to HTC, let's see if that works.

Hi HardRoc

Oh..and thanks to Broken too. I keep my fingers crossed, that your request will be heard at HTC.

Ok, so I heard back from HTC Cingular Support:

"Thank you for your inquiry in regards to HTC Home plugin weather support.

I can definitely understand your concern for having your city location included in the Accuweather software on your device. We'll be happy to provide assistance.

To better assist with your inquiry, we would like to know which HTC device you are using? and what ROM version is your device is using?

Please feel free to contact HTC Europe for additional assistance with your inquiry. For your convenience, please contact:

HTC Europe:http://www.europe.htc.com/support/csbyphone.html.

I hope we have answered your question in detail. Feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions."

So it looks like they are willing to add cities to the list of supported one, but here is the problem. I really can't say I am using an 8525 with software ripped from an upcoming device. I wouldn't want to get anyone in trouble. So that leaves the HTC Touch as it also has the weather widget. Anyone here have a Touch and want to tell me what rom they are using? Or am I being to paranoid and should just tell them I have a 8525 with a HTCHome plugin from a Touch? I just don't want them saying, Oh, too bad, you do not have a supported device. Any thoughts on the matter?

You should put it in your Windows folder.

As far as I know, you have to disable the Today plugin before you copy the file into the folder.

Also, at this moment we do not support the Home plug-in on our devices. Currently, there is only device that have this feature which is the HTC Touch an European model."

JUVS HTC Home plug cab does support alot of the US cities... However its the 5 button plug in and i get really poor performance on my tytn with it, it really slow's down my device.. I installed the 3 button today plug in and it doesnt kill my device, however the xml from the 5 button doesnt work with the 3 button... i tried to use the xml file from the 5 button but no such luck... maybe someone here can provide some insight..

5 button xml has this line for st. louis, MO and works
<city name="Saint Louis, US" loca="NAM|US|MO|SAINT LOUIS" land="United States" />
3 button xml has this format and the string listed above does not work.

<city name="Abu Dhabi, AE" locationcode="MEA|AE|AE002|ABU DHABI" />

I tried replacing the XML's but when i do the 3 button doesnt recognize anything from the 5 button... so i have to assume these 2 different plug in's access different servers... and i might need to tear into them a little deeper, but figured someone out there may have already have a fix for these....

Self customized HTC color weather 5 button plug-ins is a real pain in the a$$.

To my experiences, my custom weather .xml doesn't neither work for any single city which I added, nor 3 button plug xml works on 5 button plug. Tried to use .xml post here for 3 buttons, none of any city showed up in the list.

The original Washington DC works.
<city name="Washington, US" loca="NAM|US|DC|WASHINGTON" land="United States"/>

but not my added city:(

<city name="Winchester, US" loca="NAM|US|VA|WINCHESTER" land="United States"/>

Here is our little contribution. This is XML for all spanish cities.

Some cities may not work because this file is generated with not the same database as the accuweather one. If your city don΄t work, search for it in accuweather.com and edit XML.

If you share this file don΄t forget to quote NiAx Team in credits.
