Many apologies if a solution to this has already been posted - if it has could someone lead me in the right direction?

My problem is with transfering large files to the Ameo's Microdrive. Activesync is too slow and wont transfer large files. I have tried two different versions of wm5torage, each time installing correctly and soft resetting. I am able to connect to my computer as a mass storage device without a hitch, and all files etc show up. The problem is that when i try to move, say a DivX onto the Microdrive after about 30 seconds I receive the message: "canot copy .....: cannot find the specified file. make sure you specify the correct path and file name"

Please can someone help me with this as it's ever-so-slightly doing my head in.

Many thanks

p.s. if it's any use i've tried this with both wm5 AND 6 with the same disappointing result

yes it is off modaco and it does connect like a usb stick; its just that it doesnt maintain this connection during file transfer and gives the error mentioned above

Hi Leon.

What version are you running? Try this one if you're not already running it.

If all else fails...and this is cumbersome, but works everytime.;)...use SafeMode Advanced and use it at boot time...no other drivers will be loaded and no conflicts.. It will def work then.:) After transferring your files, soft-reset to go back into standard WM5/6.

Let us know how you got on.

When I try with version 1.75 it is unreliable and often produces the error message you see. It may be luck but I've not had problems with 1.73. I disconnect the USB cable first before running, activate the software, then reconnect the cable.

When it does go wrong my Microdrive file table corrupts, also the Ameo hangs on the rainbow-wheel. I soft reset. Once I get it working I get errors if I need to copy the same file again. To fix this, I open WM5torage and run Check Disk on the Microdrive from my PC.

what you need to do is go to settings and the connections tab and turn off the advanced network functionality in "USB to PC". then use WM5torage.

I've tried unchecking "advanced network functionality" but to no avail. I've tried uninstalling activsync, and I've even tried it on a pc which has NEVER had Activsync on it - all with the same disappointing result.

Invariably WM5torage crashes and is 'unkillable' (if that's a word!) via Running Programs. Whatever I do it just crashes when I try to deactivate it.

I tried a hard reset of the device AND microdrive prior to installing Wm6 and THIS didn't work either. I've also tried the WM5torage cab posted in this thread by mackaby007. No luck.

I've tried Softkey Card Export ii as well and that just keeps reconnecting to activesync before windows even gets chance to recognise it as a mass storage device.

I think I've ran out of ideas.....

Just tried it with WM5torage 1.72 and that seems to be working fine.

Just transferred a 700mb file without hitch.

Wonder what the problem was with 1.75

I installed Card Export II but it would not ran and complains of missing dll's, but WM5torage 1.73 worked instantly. I have just transfered 3.5 Gb of music and some clips to test it. No problems yet and transfer took about 20 mins.

Could your problem be caused by installed software? Will have a look at Card Export 3 (never heard of it, or their notice must have gone to spam folder)

I've always been able to use version 1.73 smoothly in the past. Then, later I tried out version 1.75 thinking that it might work better. I could connect and activate. I had no problem transferring small files. However, it always stopped recognising the device as a valid USB mass storage a few minutes into the transfer operation. The de-activation would hang the device. I then went back to the older version that I still kept in my PC, (Modaco only has the faulty new version), and everything works again. I transferred a 3.7 gb file without problem.

So, make sure you do not use version 1.75 from the Modaco site.

I just read the first page and installed the 1.75 version which does crach my ameo as well. Can anyone tell me where to get version 1.72?

Please test the new WM5torage 1.78 beta version on your Athenas. It should again work on long transfers without glitches.

Feedback is needed, so please report in the main support forum here - http://www.modaco.com/WM5torage-t238545.html

Unless people with Athenas will participate in testing, there will be no good support for it...

Where can we get the 1.78 version
when I go to the link in the previous post, and click on download, it suggest only versuin 1.75

I'm having same error described in post #1 on my HTC Athena WM6.
Actually the error occurs only when using PC with WIN XP OS, while on my laptop which runs Win 2000 I don't have that problem at all.

I've tried version 1.73, 1.75 and 1.78 beta 2 and only 1.73 is working.
On other versions i'm getting same error as Leoni

the trick is to disable the advanced network support option in Connectivity in settings under the "PC-to-USB" icon

yes its a good while ago now since I posted that thread. but I do recall trying unticking the advanced network functionality box with my original wm5 tmob rom and also with the leaked wm6 rom. I also recall that it still didn't work. I really did try everything but only found success when installing the older version of wm5torage.I still cannot fathom why wm5torage 1.75 worked for some people but not for me. I haven't tested it since installing p.k.s black rom but will try tomorrow.

sorry to be a buttlicker olipro but cheers for your work by the way
