Hi,
Can you please test and see if the phone is hardware limited to record the voice of the other person on a call like many other HTC PPC phones.
Software like:
VITO AudioNotes v1.3
Resco Audio Recorder 4 betas
LivePvr
PM Recorder
or even with the build-in Windows Notes.

resco recorder

also you could try
vito audio notes

I am using Resco audio recorder on my Kaiser
but does it record the call partner voice too?
I know it was possible to record the whole conversation only on smarphone because of an hardware limitation in pocket pc instead smartphone.

Thats also very important for my decision whether to buy the Kaiser or not!
Anybody - please check and post... (would be perfect if somebody could make and record a short test call and attach it here :) )
Thanks a lot!

yes, vito audio notes records the other person's voice too. you can just record whenever, or have it automaticly record when u make or recieve a call. it has different settings of sound quality too.

I know they say that it works, but actually it doesn't for all newer HTC Pocket PCs - that's why we are asking. Anybody here who really tried it and can attach a test call (without loudspeakers turned on!)? :(

well, you can see if you do some research - it's a hardware limitation as the phone audio system is not fully integrated into the Windows Mobile audio system...
This is also a feature i would like to see!
There is talk about utilising the Bluetooth Stack to record the call (both ends) but i dont know how far along it is.
Its really frustrating that the PPC phone edition isnt smarter than the 'Smartphones' that can record both ends!
Perhaps we should actually look at this a little differently.
The PPC recorders all seem to record via the mic, but how about a recorder that can record only the audio sent to the speaker! (Thus recording the other person!)

The PPC recorders record via the mic because recording the audio sent to the speaker doesnt work, that is the limitation everybody is talking about. This audio routing is handled in hardware itself and software is not able to tap it in between...

Hi Shantzg001,
I realise they dont record both, but i am suggesting that it would be great to find something that can only record the speaker, not the mic. Just as if you wanted to record streaming music. (that doesnt record from the mic).
I havent found anything yet that can do this but it could just be the search terms im using.

I can confirm that unless you use the speakerphone that Vito Audio Notes, as was supsected, records only the microphone (your own voice, not the other party of the call)of the phone conversation. Also the "auto record" for phone calls does not work when activated either.

Try Resco Audio Recorder, it has trial version for sure.
Some people said it works.

I tried it - you don't hear the other side of the call on the recording unless you use the speaker.

Damn :(
I really missed this feature (phone recording).
I hope there is a registry setting "EnablePhoneRecording" or something like that.
Do you think this is hardware limitation? Or application issue? or OS? ... hard to guess.

After reading the many posts on this subject, and having tested Vito and recoe, they do not work as expected. Palm (Treo) does the job, but the phone is VERY unreliable. The only way to record both sides, is to turn on the speaker, which is ridiculous. Someone out there may have an answer. :o

Yeah, it is sad ... Nokia (Symbian phone) can do this as well.
I just wondering, is there any super low level programming that can access the hardware? :)
In the olden days, when we used the "BASIC" language, we like to do "peek" and "poke" ... "in" and "out" ... to access the PC port, I/O, ROM, etc. :)
Come one hackers, you can do it !

I am so disappointed that my Tytn II is not able to auto-record phone calls. I've been so used to it using my WM5 Pocket Loox T830 & now I miss it on my TyTn II. I know that there's a research which shows that HTC hardwares are limiting this, but can there still be hope that somehow there is a software tweak to enable this?
I really like my TyTn II, & really don't wanna sell it for another phone, just because it doesn't have this calls auto-record feature (E-ten Glofiish M800 perhaps, with VGA screen to boot)

Impossible, sorry. I've devoted SEVERAL articles to this q; see http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Audio%20and%20call%20recording% 2C%20answering%20machines

Sorry to here this as its a feature i would of liked to seen also; i suspect in part it may have to do with htc being concerned that having an auto record feature incorporated into the hardware/software may limit the phone for corporate use as many businesses frown on the ability to record conversations; thus, such a feature might limit sales to business... only speculating....

legally I would have thought that you would need the other persons permission to record the conversation anyway

And BTW most states only require one of the parties to know the conversation is being recorded (meaning a third party can not listen in or record/tap a conversation). So as long as you OR the other person knows the conversation is being recorded it is legal (you have to check your state laws to be sure).

This is *NOT* illegal, if other party agreed for recording. It is very useful, when you are driving and someone non-technical person wants to give phone and address details.

I tried the austinsync ROM specifically for this purpose, but it only works using the speaker.

If you're in the US, it depends on the state you live in. Federal Law requires only one party consent to record calls. Some states require two-party consent. Look up the FTC's website to see which states have which requirements. If you're calling between states, you must assume that the laws of the more strict state would apply.
Asking permission to record is simply a courtesy - unless you're in a two-party state.

I skimmed the articles and the posts, but it seems like the issue is that the incoming audio is physically separated (i.e. in the hardware) from the WM environment, correct?

So the problem is that your voice can be captured, but the caller's can not be. So we can capture incoming sound but not outgoing. There are USB headsets that plug into the Kaiser and provide headphones and a microphone. What if instead, the audio that would go to the headphones were piped back into the phone through the input that would come from the mic? So loop the signal back into the phone, turning an output into an input.. which, as I understand it, can be recorded? Can you record the phone's mic input and an input coming in through USB at the same time? If so, this is the solution, and it wouldn't be the end of the world either..

Guys, have you ever tried to save the conversation to a note message (while the call is going on)? In that situation the call recording in both ways seems to work fine. If it in fact works, the problem can't be a hardware limitation...
HTC doesn't say anything about it?
Cheers.

Which app do you use to make this to work? I use Audio Notes 3.2. I set it to Autocall Record, but, everytime, only my end of the call can be heard in the recording. I tried your method, ie pressing the Note button during a call, but I still can only hear my end of the call, and not the other party

It works only on wm5 ... and 2003 se
this is sad ... with each update of windows mobile we lose more features
no more fax
no more recording ..
very simple word (instead of the better wm2003 one)
i guess at the end we'll get a simple plain phone ... without any smart features at all .. just a shiny interface with the clock...
