Step-by-Step upgrade guides for your Trinity
www.trinityguides.info (http://www.trinityguides.info)

I have completely re-structured the site, and updated all pages with new formatting, links and info.
(incidentally, for all the naysayers, this is why i chose not to do this on the wiki because the organization and management of all the data is very cumbersome on the wiki)

stuck in new bootloader
stuck in hard spl
can't upgrade radio

I've updated guides to reflect all current hard-spl versions, and available radio versions (thanks to dta1974 for the links!)so that you can take your pick and since many seem to be having trouble upgrading with Hard-SPL 1.30.

it's actually a lot more work than what it sounds like, ha. As always, donations are appreciated.

If you have feedback, comments, and even questions, please post in this thread so i can see how to address them in subsequent updates.

thanks to: AX3L, Private69, Pof, mun, Shadowmite, and taiseer999 for replying all my PM's!

Cool, this is great. I wish you had it up when I was learning how to change ROM's.

Maybe you should add something on how to flash back to OEM WM5 since that seems to be a concern for a lot of beginners.

wonder-
the CMS let's me keep the stuff organized and up to date. After adding more guides it could get pretty complicated. If someone wants to port it to the wiki, they can, but sine the wiki is fluid i think it would be better to have some control over an upgrade guide so a noob doesn't change it based on a one-time experience.

updated with *beta* Dopod WM6 guide (http://www.trinityguides.info/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=22&Itemid=39)... check it out; comments and input are very much appreciated...

I don't think it's necessarily a definitive guide yet, since everything's been happening so fast, so it is at your own risk. But i don't think the steps listed will do anything bad or worse to your device than any other procedure people have been trying today. trying to help get rid of some confusion around here.

After installing the new 1.46.00.11 radio on my AX3L WM6 rom, I don't have the power drain problem. This might be a good thing to add since many people might opt to wait for the big upgrade and just to the radio until the cookers have had their fun.

racerx_
10th July 2007, 05:17 PM
good info.. is this confirmed through tracking the mah usage with software? (before i go posting it ;)

on giving it more thought, seems a bit odd that radio ROM alone would fix the power drain, don't you think? maybe i'm wrong, but since people have been using all kinds of radio versions and experiencing this issue, it seemed like an OS problem.

Check the radio thread, others are saying the same thing :)

The test was with BatteryStatus .4
I did the same test before the radio upgrade and had the battery drain problem.

has anyone encountered problems with the vista x64 HTC sync drivers? they fail to start code 39...

racerx_
23rd July 2007, 03:08 PM
yeah, there was another guy with the same issue.. quite hard to track down since not everyone is running x64. in another thread someone that overcame it actually reinstalled vista without disabling any services (the first time he had disabled some stuff to speed it up).

alternatively, after scouring the net this is what i've come up with to load the drivers.. i believe the error has something to do with driver signing (but without x64, i can't test it). Can you try these methods and let me know what works and what doesn't. I guess we're looking for a permanent disabling of driver signing, cause some of these steps seem to only disable until reboot.

OPTION 1 - Bcedit
1. Create a shortcut on the desktop to cmd.exe
(this recipe explains how to create a shortcut if you don't know how)

Right click on an empty space on the desktop to open the context menu
Select New
Select Shortcut with a left-click
In the location box type cmd.exe
Select Next
Name your shortcut and push Finish

2. Right-click on the shortcut and select Run as administrator

3. When the command window opens, type or paste the following and press ENTER:

Bcdedit.exe /set nointegritychecks ON

4. Reboot and then try installing the driver

some people listed some variations on this method, they are as follows:

if the "bcdedit /set nointegritychecks ON" does not work, try "bcdedit -set nointegritychecks ON"

or try bcdedit -set loadoptions \”DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS”
(this seems to be a more permanent fix i guess)

OPTION 2 - F8
An F8 boot option introduced with Windows Vista—“Disable Driver Signature Enforcement”—is available to disable the kernel-signing enforcement only for the current boot session. This setting does not persist across boot sessions.

OPTION 3 - gpedit

open the command line again (i guess it wouldn't hurt to open with administrative priviledges as listed in option 1)

Navigate to User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Driver Installation

enable the "Code signing for drivers" and then choose "Ignore".

Sorry for my bad english.

If you're needing to switch your spl, there's a guide on the site here (http://www.trinityguides.info/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=10&Itemid=30). Basically, you would just run the updater for your original manufacture ROm (which would contain rom + ipl + spl) without putting your device in bootloader manually.

i'll post a clear downgrade guide soon.

There's a few methods to backup everything... you could use backup software (sprite backup is pretty popular), but you better read up on it first to see what issues the software has with WM5 or 6. Alternatively, you can manually copy all your documents to PC, write down all your settings, etc.

The backups don't contain system files AFAIK, so to downgrade you'd need to flash a new ROM. Basically when you flash you have to reinstall your programs and stuff. Settings Saviour and HTCustom are two programs that will back up settings xml files and help you automatically reload your cab files after a flash. *note it's not a good idea to restore a backup from a different OS, even between builds of WM6 so it's at your own risk to use sprite backup etc. Settings Saviour and HTCustom are safe

hope it helps! thanks for the post.. i'll integrate some of this into future guides

I'm pretty new to the Trinity scene so i might not be making much sense.

I've read that the Trinity has GPS but i dont know how to enable it right now and the wiki doesnt have anything on it.

The situation i am in is that i've flashed the lastest LVSW rom and radio but i dont see the GPS, or at least i dont think i see it. I only see the "external GPS" icon.

Would be great if there is a thread in your brillient guide on methods to enable GPS and to check that it is working.

Thanks for your help

ah ok, i understand what you're saying. There is a GPS chip in your trinity, and LVSW's rom has it enabled. The thing is, you need software to use the GPS. So all you have to do is get some GPS map software for your locale (tomtom, mapking, etc) and it will use your GPS to figure out where you are. There's simply no built in GPS software on the device. perhaps i'll add this as an faq or something. Thanks for the input!

@all- i'm testing a new, more organized template on the site.. so if things look weird in the next hour or so, you'll know why :D ..more updates and guides coming soon..

Cheers for another quick reply racerx_ i understand my situation now.

After i install my TomTom6, will it be a simple process in making the GPS work? cause i've also read things about enabling COM9 and so on. What do you need to do there?

One more page that would be great to see could be a page which lists the most update ROM's and Radio. Therefore users of the Trinity will know what they should have to have the most update device. I'd like to see this as the radio's and ROM's come out so quick i sometimes miss out.

Thanks for the great work.

it should be a pretty simple process to get gps working.. if lvsw has enabled the gps icon in settings, you can check to make sure it's on com9 and the baud rate. I know tomtom can be a little trickier than some other softwares.. there are many threads on this site about it. I'll see if i can get a guide together for it, but tomtom doesn't have maps for my country so a bit hard.

sorry, i should have specified on the site. Des' crash-proof spl is not protected against being overwritten. So when you run an official ROM update from your provider, it will be overwritten by the SPL that's included in the package.

yes, certain programs do have compatibility issues with wm6. You really have to check the software manufacturer's site to see if it's going to work or not. Most software should be updating pretty soon now that WM6 is out and all. I'm not familiar with webcam plus, so i can't say whether it works or not. Of course, you could always flash back to WM5 if it didn't work out.

krzyak-

sorry didn't see your earlier posts. After you've downloaded hard-spl, unzip the files to a new folder. Inside will be all the stuff you need for hard-spl including the Rom Update Utility program. RUU is simply the program that helps you flash whatever it is you're flashing. There's nothing rom-specific about it. It's just a program that looks for an .nbh file in that same folder. So in this case, the .nbh file is hard-spl and that will be flashed.

When you're done flashing hard-spl, then unzip your ROM to another new folder, and do exactly the same thing, running the RUU from that folder.

to keep it simple, just unzip each rom, radio, or bootloader to it's own folder and run the RUU for each separately from within those folders. You'll be fine. happy flashing :D

site updated.. cleaned up some links and added vista x64 instructions.. stay tuned, should be releasing an overhauled website this week with better design, more organized structure, new guides, and faq

2. I'm interested in wm 6.0 integrated voip support - does your rom version : PDAVIET v3.00.07.09 support it or I have to install editional patch? Do I have to upgrade radio or ROM version only? For that ROM do I have to use specyfic radio version update or it does not matter?

haha.. i think that's actually 5 questions but here you go:

1. The wiki link is to the download software that lets you download all of pdaviet's roms. Otherwise, you can hunt through the trinity mobile 6 threads and find the thread for v3.00.07.09 (i think it's still there). someone probably posted a mirror

2. I don't use VOIP so i'm not sure, but from what i remember you usually run some kind of VOIP config cab to get everything working on WM6. again, there are threads about this (search is your friend, and if you post this question elsewhere without searching you'll get flamed ha)

3. Radio upgrade is optional.

4. ROMs are not radio specific, but radio will affect your phone reception, bluetooth, GPS, etc..

anyway, thanks for the questions, you're giving me a good idea of stuff to include on my site

I'm preety green in that field, but I will exactlly follow instructions from www.trinityguides.info, which seems to be clear and understood - how you calculate my chances? racerx_

if you follow the guides, you have a very high chance of success... they're machines, so you never know what might happen. But once you've got hard-spl on there at least you have some form of protection from mishaps during flashing.

error 246 is when you don't manually put it in bootloader, so it times out. hmm.. that's still the old one.. very strange. try and flash it again? could be the link was incorrect or something. I'll try to check it out.

Same here. Flash twice with the new Radio, but after reboot I have the same version 1.38.00.11. I have AX3L rom, everything else is OK.

Maybe it has something to do with Hard-SPL?

edit: When I flash the second time, I took the radio version from this forum, i thought that might be someth with the radio version from site that I flashed first time.

I have try to search on www.accuweather.com (http://www.accuweather.com) my city and all is ok, my city is supported and the weather forecast are good. Same thing on the IE from pda but the site doesn't find the same city. so I thing that there is a big difference from normal web site and wap site. may be for this reason I receive an error from my pda.

Prior to that, i had also flashed Hard SPL.

i'm assuming you're using the link to the modified RUU that was in my guide? If so, i'm not sure why exactly you're still facing this 28% issue. You could try the re-released HTC version (although it's ANZ version instead of SEA, but i don't think there's any notable difference between the two besides operator settings) posted here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321182)

oh, and if i remember right.. when i tried the official ROM, mine kept getting stuck at 28%, and would then remain in my hard-spl bootloader. After trying it again and again, it mysteriously worked one time..

Back with the same problem. This morning I flash my device with the new full ROM from INDIGO. This time I didn't go first to bootloader mode and I run RUU normally. And guess what? The radio version is the same: 1.38.00.11.  . And I have the battery drain bug...:-(
What do you think, racerx_? What can I do?
Thnx again for your help.

EDIT: PROBLEM SOLVED !
I tried once again a radio flash (1.46.30.11), I don't know how many times I tried that, and it worked, now I have the latest radio version.
I don't know why it worked, but I;m glad it did.

Ok, this sounds like a common problem - not sure if not going to bootloader mode had anything to do with it though, as I too have the same problem, despite upgrading from from bootloader mode.

Thanks for posting your success - I'll keep on retrying till it sticks!

Well I finally got my radio to update. Must have tried a thousand different times, but I just couldn't get it to update with OliPro 1.30, even though it looked all smooth. I had to put on Des's SPL (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293632) to get it to properly update.

Finally! My GPS chipset is recognised. The successful radio update to 1.46.30.11 did it. Wow, that only took 14 hours.

Hi there!

Having the same problem...
I installed dopod's WM6 rom (downloaded from your guide site) but I didnt feel like updating the radio at that time.

Today I tried to update the radio from 1.38.00.11 to 1.46.30.11 following the guide's instructions. Everything seemed to go just fine but, when it rebooted, the radio version was unchanged.

What should I do? Should I try using the RUU without entering bootloader? And if so, won't that be dangerous?

Thanks guys

ok give me some info..

1) what hard-spl are you using?

2) I'm assuming you're following the steps on the guide exactly

this is a longshot, but just trying to troubleshoot it, if you have a memory card, take it out of your device before flashing again.

@ racerx_

Hi! thanks for taking interest on our problem.

1) I'm using Olipro's hard-spl 1.30.
2) Yep... I followed each and every step of your guide (which is quite usefull, btw :) )

I'm going to try your suggestion now and I'll give you some feedback.

Cheers!

UPDATE: Ok... Just tried flashing it again after taking out my memory card. Still no luck :(

racerx_
13th August 2007, 02:53 PM
ok, then i really don't know what to say except that it may be the hard-spl, although olipro says it's not. I'm not an expert on stuff that technical so it's hard for me to say..

regardless, please don't flash a new radio without hard spl. flash olipro's previous hard-spl (using RUU--not manually going to bootloader), and check that your hard-spl has changed. Then manually enter bootloader and follow instructions to upgrade radio.

i would suggest you revert back to hard-spl 1.30 after this as it addresses issues caused by new HTC spl, and prevents itself being overwritten

hope it helps!

FalconEddy

It worked :)
Turns out you might actually be right... This IS some kind of bug with version 1.30.

I installed the hard-spl 1.20 that you posted, used it to flash the new radio and it worked perfectly.

I already upgraded back to 1.30 as you told me aswell.

Even if I don't know how you can run that pdaviet version without any issue ;) you doing a great work.

Just a very little thing: the original wm5 rom from htc don't restore ipl to version 0.5. It's there, but 1.0 will not be overwritten.
Maybe you should check your article:

but obviously correct me if I'm wrong

Ciao

racerx_
16th August 2007, 03:09 AM
yeah, i think you are correct, ipl 1.0 will not be overwritten. However, they should only have ipl 1.00 if they did the official update which would mean they own a dopod, so they don't need to downgrade for warranty, or they're just a really excited noob who flashed too fast ha (and i forgot to update pdaviet version in my signature :D )

that's why the guide for non-dopod users is using modified RUU method, rather than CID unlock or something.. so it's reversible. Very good point! I will reflect it on the site

and for anyone else that's reading, that's why it's pointless to try and upgrade your ipl to 1.0, so please don't

Good Guide. My feedback is to put together some kind of "definition" page.
For example - What is Radio ROM, Extended ROM, Bootloader, CID/SuperCID Unlock, HARD SPL, etc.
I started by just wanting to put WM6 on my trinity after I saw a unit on ebay w/ WM6 "loaded" for sale. I googled it and came across this site and had to go through the forums to piece together the meanings.

racerx_
16th August 2007, 05:36 AM
i understand but actually, it says right on the home page (with links)

"In any case, please do read the wiki , faq , and forums at xda-developers.org before flashing for definitions and so that you understand what you are doing."

I'm amazed that you found it with google though.. i didn't think it really showed up there ha

Found through google xda-developers.com. While searching on how to upgrade I came across your signature for the trinityguide.info
Used that guide and couple minutes ago I installed 3.00.07.13 though I was not able to upgrade the radio rom to 1.46 - currently I have 1.38

I'll try to load the 1.20 Hard SPL as suggested tomorrow - though I'd like to find out what the advantage of 1.46 over 1.38 is.

Great, in your site is described how to flash hardspl but there is nothing about cashproof. Can you prepare a guide, why in zip file is there only a nbh file?.
Can j put it in a rom directory after delete rom nbh file and then upgrade?
Ths for reply.

racerx_
18th August 2007, 02:17 AM
there's nothing about crashproof because it's not really hard-spl--doesn't protect itself against being overwritten, so safer to go with updated hard-spl at this point. You can flash crashproof the same way you flash any hard-spl.

what zip file are you talking about?

atropo
18th August 2007, 10:37 AM
In crashproof zip file there is only a nbh file so j think that it must be copied in a ruuwrapper directory for to be upgrade. Is it correct?.
Ths

18th August 2007, 11:14 AM
Another question: if j downgrade to an original rom, it doesn't use sspl and so how can j overwrite hardspl?.
J must copy sspl to the phone, run from here and then start downgrade to original rom, ipl, spl ecc.
Ths.

racerx_
18th August 2007, 04:17 PM
yes, you need to put it in an RUU wrapper. Some people have already done this on the forums.. i think you need to look in trinity upgrading section.

when flashing back to original ROM, I believe your hard-spl will be overwritten by original spl as long as you don't manually put it in to bootloader..

Load 'Device Manager' by opening the Start menu and typing 'Device Manager'." there is no 'Mobile devices' section shown on the Device Manager and no possibility to click a 'HTC USB Sync' (or similarly named) item.
Otherwise when i dont take the step 3. i see at the Device Manager a "Windows mobile based-device".
If i try to upgrade the driver and follow the other steps the give me the following error: make insure that you have selected a windows-32 bit compatible driver and the driver dont be selected

Make sure you connect the device first (step 1), put it in bootloader (step 2), remove "Allow USB connections" (step 3) and THEN go to Device Manager (step 4). Works for me ... every time!

you do need to make sure your device is in bootloader mode, and connected to your pc before following the steps. Also, have you completed step 4--making sure that windows mobile connectivity services are started?

if you follow all the steps, you should be successful.. post again if you're still having trouble..

ok, there are guides for this on the site...

but basically, the official rom has been a bit problematic.. for many people stopping at 28%. If you want hard spl 1.20, then load SSPL on your phone and then run the RUU for 1.20

then you could try, but chances are 28% error is still there.. you could try the modified RUU version of official upgrade (can't remember if my site has a link or not, but you can find it on here). to my knowledge, no one seems to know for sure what causes the 28% error.. a lot of ppl have had it, including me. I kept flashing back to non-official ROM and trying again until finally it worked for me.

Just curious, why do you want the official WM6 ROM?

Greetings, and thanks for the guide. I just gave a small donation. I'm doing baby steps with my Trinity and used the guide to install Hard SPL-1.20 and the 1.50.08.11 radio.

I'm still on the HTC factory ROM (1.23.405.2), but I'm pretty unimpressed with the reception. The 1.50.08.11 update is not working so well with my ROM. Calls drop or refuse to connect. The batter drains much more quickly.

My one request is that you provide some kind of description of Rom and Radio versions that you recommend, or the tradeoffs between the different ones. At the least, please provide links to relevant discussions on the forums or wiki.

racerx_
24th October 2007, 03:04 AM
thanks for the support!! you're donater #2 or 3.. amazing, you'd think out of 18,000+ people that have visited the site, some people would actually support the work.. ha.. (just a little rant)

sorry it took a while to reply, i've just returned from a business trip.

It is very difficult to do the kind of ROM/radio comparison that you are talking about, as i personally haven't tried every single ROM and radio.. there are a few threads trying to do it, however getting objective data to base the comparison on is a bit rare. There are so many opinons/experiences.. personally, none of the radios have given me trouble, or impressed me immensely more than the first. i use 1.46 now and seems to be ok..

i have been thinking about posting a link to the different ROM threads, but it's a bit tough since they change so much. The bottom line is, the forums contain the relevant discussions to base decisions on and the wiki (which i do have a link to on the guides) *usually* has the links for all the ROMs. I'm not really trying to replace the forums or the wiki.. just help people flash more effectively and get some answers.

i do think we need a sticky of links to the various ROM threads, just haven't had time to work on it.. sorry for the long reply.. just thought i'd explain

looks like ghost61 is hacking a ton of sites around the world. what software you running on your site?

if your running Joomla then it would seem this is an sql injection. http://securityreason.com/exploitalert/3580 though there are about 100 exploits on joomla if you search for Joomla on that site.

contact Joomla admins about this for a possible fix.

yeah, he's been a busy beaver lately apparently.. ;) The site is running on joomla, and there seems to be no easy fix for this scenario.. I've done a restore from my webhosts's backups but to no avail. They are telling me to locate the malicious code, which i have no idea how to do.. this is VERRRRRY frustrating to say the least. Any php/sql gurus wanna take a look at things and help get the site back?

seems he has changed the .htaccess file or edited index.html. If you specify the index.php file the site works again.

Try the following steps:
1) rename the index.html file to index.save
2) if this doesn't work have a look at your .htaccess file.

Toxic17

yep, index.php works.

if you add an index.htm and index.html to point to index.php that will work.

<html>

<head>
<META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" content="0;URL=/index.php">
</head>
<body>
</body>
</html>

whatever he has done i would suggest you harden your site with a much improved password and lock down any admin folder if you can.

hmmm... yeah might have been just the index.html file...

thanks for the tips guys!!.. i think i'm up and running again.. hopefully for good

problem is you now need to know how he managed to change your index file in the first place. if he managed to upload it he has your password.

I rather think he used the ftp upload routine inside of joomla. There must be a switch to disable it in the administration console.

hmm... well i'm really not sure.. the bluehost techs think it was just a php script injection.. that he didn't necessarily have passwords.. i was a bit inclined to agree, but not sure.. now that i think about it, though, i have 3 domains hosted on my bluehost account, though, and all three got hacked.. not all run on joomla, but all have php.. to me, it would seem he was able to ftp in somehow..

what do you guys think? i'd rather not have it happen again

trying to find out what he done is will be hard, though not impossible if you inspect your webservers raw access log files, though these are serious big.

what I would intend doing is change any passwords you use at present with a pwd at least 12 characters in length (at least) using upper and lower case and with numerals.

update joomla to the newest version available

make sure you are the only one who have access rights to the site to change anything. looking at joomla forums should tell you how to clamp down the security.

ok, just want to make it short: (P3600 user)
1. I have WM6.1 ROM (FleNover 3.3 Black edition) installed.
2. When I want to downgrade to WM6 official, after 20% it goes error.
3. Now, it only shows 3 colors.
4. Here is my PDA information in 3 colors:
TRIN100
IPL-1.00

TRIN100 MFG
SPL-1.30.Olipro
5. When I want to upgrade with WM6 official, after my PDA shows the progress bar, it restarted and the update screen shows Error 286.
6. How do I fix it?

thank you very much

Thanks a lot for the guide! Made the whole thing simple and straightforward. Nice to have your hand held for these things sometimes! ;)
I'll drop you $5 when i've finished this, but just one thing.. Why put this:
"I will post guides later, but if you want a quick automated backup/restore you can use the following programs

* PIM backup (backup/restore SMS, MMS, e-mail, contacts, calendar, tasks, call history and more)
* Settings Saviour (backup/restore preferences, settings, auto install cab files & xml on restore)"

in the last section, not the first one!? i only found out once i'd romed my trinity!! haha, damnit.

Sorry, just saw this post.. dunno why i didn't notice it before.. Have you tried the WM6 official with modified SPL? I think its just the SPL in WM6 having a problem with Hard-SPL 1.30. There were issues with it, and i don't know why Olipro never released an updated version, so people modified the SPL of the WM6 installation to be compatible. Essentially, you download another ROM, and replace the RUU file with the RUU from the WM6 official.

My advice is, stay on hard-spl 1.20.

actually i was looking at the guides today, and you must've skipped a section, because before flashing there's a 'backup' section to explain which programs to use.. after flashing is 'restore'

hmm... there are quite a few posts in the forum about dumping a ROM already.. you need one of the ROM kitchens to do it.. ROMdonalds should be fine.

but from what i know, there is an Orange ROM from someone posted here in the forums somewhere (since they're hard to find)

and actually the site has been up for ages.. just for some reason they don't sticky the thread so it always gets buried
