Hi,
I've got a weird problem with my MDA compact III (T-mobile Netherlands, original ROM).
For some reason I don't know the active sync doesn't seem to identify the phone anymore.
I know there are a lot of problems with active sync and I've read and searched a lot of those threads but I can't solve my problem.
Active sync always ends up with the message that there is no phone connected whereas it is.
I tried different versions of active sync and different PC's (WIN XP SP2), deleted partnerships both on the phone as well as in active sync, I changed the name of the phone which it uses to identify on connection.
No matter what I tried, nothing could solve this.
The only way for me to exchange data at this moment is using wm5torage and using CAB's to install.
Please help!!
PS: A hard reset is not an option since I need to continue with the tools and files that are currently in the ROM.
Thanks in advance

Ok ... I have seen your problem many times and yes there are many other threads on it . But lets see since im woke if I canhelp you crack this little apple . 1st what you mean by you can't hard reset you need to continue wuith tools . 2nd when the phone is connected to your computer does it charge ? Do you see it connect in the device manager ? 3rd of you plug your phone to the charger does it charge as well.
Now if these question are yes then 1st I would say reboot your computer and soift reset phone ... If that doesnt solve the problem then we will goto next step.

Sounds as if all is working . And what ever you were trying on the phone has an adverse effect ? What are these tools that are keepimng you from hard resetting ? I believe there is another program for connecting to this cell let me rack my brains while I think ...

Hi PURESKILLZZZ,
Many thanks for taking you time to read my explanation.
Let me give you some answers:
1.) The reason for me is that in case of a hardreset I need to install all applications again. Actually I've been doing a hard reset and then afterwards restored a backup I created with spb backup. Unfortunately the problem was still there.
2.) Yes the phone charges when connected through USB (so it's not the connector that is faulty I guess).
The device manager I need to checkout didn't lok at that yet.
When I connect using wm5torage I can see the SD card in the explorer.
3.) The phone charges when connected to the charger.
So I guess the answer is yes to all your questions.
If you have more questions to be able to help me please let me know.
I'd like to tackle this problem.
Thanks in advance

i don't think so because i have no wm5torage connections so in my case i think is an hardware issue like data pins damaged ....

Did you jam the charger in the phone at anytime or did the phone drop while connected to charger . Just being connected for long periods of time dont hurt as I have ran my phone for over 24 hours connected to power while playing the radio thru the phone.

Unfortunately none of the suggestions worked for me.
It's not related to dropping the phone or taking hardware damage by faulty use or something.
This I know for sure since I own this phone only for a couple of weeks and didn't harm it in any way.
My conclusion also was that it must be software related, that's why I started this thread anyway.
Therefore I'm looking for suggestions/hints on the software side (most probably the problem would be on the phone and not on the PC, but what is it?........)

1 last note before I go take a power nap . You can check your activesync setting on the phone . goto => Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC. Change the mode of the box next to Enable advance Network functionality. click ok .. Now try to connect ... The box is suppose to have a check in it but sometimes there are other reasons why it doesnt worj the defaukt way . I hope I have been of some assistance to you.

I had this same issue recently I thought it may be due to upgrading to activsync 4.5.
But it seemed not to make much difference when I attempted to work it on another pc using activsync.
The problem only occured after I had been using pocket mechanic to delete files and free up dead registry files.
I didn't want to do a hard reset straight away so instead I restored an older backup from before the issue started & since then the problem has been resolved.
So I guess the question is do you have an older backup than the one you have tried if so try it & see. Other than that a hard reset may well sort the issue?
Hope this helps, and serves as a warning to others don't delete certain reg keys even if a program (pocket mechanic) stated them to be empty or redundant unless you have a backup to restore when things go wrong!

Yeah a backup is a good idea but most dont do that . And yeah some cleaners do remove more than they should.

b) to debrand it

Here's my experience:
I used my HTC a few months, one day no activesync synchronization possible anymore. USB good for charging, but no communication. I used my HTC on USB connections at work, at home and in my car.
Soft/hard reset no solution, searching through forums also no solution. Tried different PC's and different cables.
Send it of for repair, after that everything worked, installed and configured all my programs again (doh what a job).
A few weeks after that suddenly same issue again !
Decide to wait for repairs after my vacation, since I wanted to use it for navigation purposes. In these 3 weeks I used it extensively in my car. I remember one time that TomTom refused to start. Had to soft reset it twice before starting again properly.
Just started work yesterday. Since the battery was nearly empty I plugged it on my work-pc, just for charging purposes and guess what; activesync started and synchronised my PDA !
In my case it seems not hardware but software related (seems a few soft-resets brought it back to life). My advice to you is, try several soft-resets in a row to see if that helps !

Same situation. Now i am wating for the reparation.
I have tried everything ( software related ... ) but none.
I don't think is a software issue in my case and even in yours.
There is a sort of hardware issue related to the miniusb connector , false contacts or similar....or simpy is very easy to break.....

I'm having the same problem, tried everything this forum suggested.
It's now send to the repairshop.
These guys told me that if you are using the phone in your car (connected to the powersupply) that when you restart or stop the engine, a peak current is runing through the USB cable. This ruins your ActiveSync connection (hardware).
Sounds credibel.
So when mine is repared, I will disconnect the phone when the motor is strated/stopped.:)

That problem there is extremely rare. Andeven rarer if you are using an official motorola car adapter . The lesser versions dont have as much suppresion or compasitance (meaning the cleaning and filtering of the current) as the original . Well a few are better but im sure you know which you have . Yes the adapter can transpond a spike or surge to cell phone but thats also a very rare occurance to mess up phone . If anything the incorrect charger even tho it charges phone does indeed after time messes up the phone as YES the usb plug is fragile in some ways.

Mine is able to charge via USB but I can not get ActiveSync 4.5 to make the connection...works fine for my Eten M700 and PPC-6700. This device is not recognized via USB on any of my computers, both XP SP2 and Vista Ultimate machines. I have hard reset the phone a few times and that doesn't seem to cure anything. Now I am stuck with a POS phone that I can't upgrade or sync...any better ideas out there?

As I stated before, when I plug into either a Vista or XP SP2 machine of mine, all that happens on the P3300 is charging. I'm afraid that my device is not "presenting" itself as a USB device and not anything to do with the computers that I am plugging into. I have six different computers that I have ActiveSync 4.5 or WMDC on and they all give me the same result. The problem is with the device. I would have thought a few hard resets would do the trick but no luck. I think I will have to look into a way to flash these ROM upgrades from the microSD card. I have not pursued this yet and do hope an option like that exists as I am getting nowhere with being able to hook up USB which really blows.

Try to uninstall activesync with it not being connected to phone . Then install 4.2 . That may help . An even better step would to un-install sp2 and active sync and try .... your choice. Its just a suggestion . Of if you are in the nyc area ill check the phone out for you . I'm a flash-a-holic so its will just be an excuse to flash something ....

I have been attempting to flash via microSD, but unfortunately I cannot CID unlock device via USPL from microSD. I tried to first flash a Black and Blue ROM from Tom Codon but got the invalid certificate error because the certificate is not specific to my OEM (HTC). I still have yet to try reflashing my original OEM ROM and seeing where that leaves me although that is what is currently on there now when I hard reset the device. Maybe the reflash might awaken the dead USB connection. I am suspect that the USB port on the P3300 may be faulty physically although I am not sure why now and how?? I have never jammed or pulled on the port when a cord has been plugged in. Just seems to be inactive. I'll keep you posted if there are any breakthroughs and how they came to be....I am in WA state so NYC is a bit out of the way, but thanks for the offer PureSkillz...I have a buddy in Spanish Harlem (near where they are building a new Costco, the only one on the peninsula) that I visit a few times a year, I definitely love NYC!

Hello,
I am afraid I have got this same problem, suddenly and without any apparent reason the sync. does not operate any more, but only recharging.
I have tried all methods used by other forumers but with no success.
It stills some thing to do but I don't know how, the sync. through Bluetooth. Any one had tried that? and if did work how to configure it?
Thanks

Sounds most definitely as you have a software issue either on your phone or your computer ,. If you can view files activesync should be easily working for you under those conditions. Try defragging , diskclean up and a reboot on your pc. If all fails I would suggest backing up your files and doing a hard reset.

Well after a few weeks of trying to get USB to work on my Artemis, I think it might be time to send it off to be repaired....I live in the US, does anyone know where I should send this phone to as I ordered it from Expansys/Mobile Planet...It is an HTC P3300 actually, I am guessing that I have a bad USB jack on the unit. Nothing I have been able to do allows me to connect to it via any PC. I wonder how much this will cost??? If it is too much, then this phone is a total loss....

There are 100's of cell phone stores in the us . Pick the 1 of your choice and let them fix it . have you tried connecting it on any other machines ? Does it charge when connected to your machine ?, Can you view files ?

should you do on your device --> go to Start/Settings/USB to PC. Uncheck (or Check) Advanced network functionality. then Re-connect to sync...
